Shore Leave: The Bar

Cass turns to Alex. "Some woman seems to have broken into Zeph's cottage. Doesn't look young enough to be a daughter. Well, not Zephyr's, anyway." She slaps her comm badge. "Cassano to security. Send..." It takes her that long to remember that she doesn't actually have a comm badge to slap.

Sighing and rubbing her face with both hands, she makes a decision, because that's what captains do. "Go to your cottage and send a comm to resort security," she tells Alex, then goes to the front door and slides it open to walk into the cottage.
May 20, 2019 6:46 am
Cass enters the cottage. The front door leads into a tiny hallway which in turn has a door that leads to the main room that she saw into through the window. The door to that room is open but she can't see the couch from this angle.
May 20, 2019 6:50 am
Cass moves more slowly as she approaches the open door to the main room, continuing until she can see the woman who was lying on the couch.
May 20, 2019 6:55 am
Cass sneaks closer to the door until she can see the couch. It's empty. Whoever it was that was sleeping on the couch must be a very light sleeper. This experience is sobering Cass up almost as fast as Moira's Lion Bile would have.
Cass can hear light breathing from the other side of the door, close to the wall.
May 20, 2019 7:03 am
Cass waits motionless for a moment, listening to the breathing. Now that her head's a little clearer, it occurs to her that it's pretty weird that a home invader - well, resort cottage invader - sat around eating a meal and then napping on the couch with the light on. Still, that doesn't mean this situation can't be dangerous.

"Security!" she barks. "Come out with your hands up!"
May 20, 2019 7:09 am
There is a long pause. Finally, you get a reply. A woman's voice says: "This is my cottage and I've done nothing wrong. You have no right to just come in here"
May 20, 2019 7:21 am
Cass almost laughs at this response. "This cottage is occupied by a Lt. Commander Zephyr Borealis, and we know you are not him. Now step out with your hands up!"
May 20, 2019 7:24 am
"And I am Lt. Commander Zephyr Borealis' personal guest. Now either piss off or come in and shoot me but if you do that, he might do the same to you."
May 20, 2019 7:29 am
Cass relaxes slightly. This is sounding less and less like a dangerous situation. She maintains her guard but drops the "security" voice. "A personal guest wouldn't have to break into the cottage. And I seriously doubt that Zeph will shoot his commanding officer."
May 20, 2019 7:43 am
"He might. He's done dumber things for me." You can hear that the woman's voice seems to have relaxed slightly as well now but she still doesn't show herself. "And I'm sure he would have invited me in but he wasn't home, so I decided to wait for him."
May 20, 2019 7:47 am
Cass sighs. "Look, this is great fun, but I'm really not in the mood for cloak and dagger tonight. Step into the doorway so I can see you're not about to club me or shoot me with a phaser, and then we can have a friendly chat."
May 20, 2019 8:05 am
After a short moment, the woman steps into the doorway. She has a knife in her hand but it's not raised. She's a little bit taller than you but very skinny to the point where it doesn't seem healthy anymore.
"You must be Cassano then. I thought you'd be prettier." She gestures towards the couch. "Come in, grab another drink. Smells like you've had a couple already."
May 20, 2019 8:10 am
Cass enters the room, sitting on a chair rather than the couch. "Yes, I've been enjoying a much-needed shore leave." She waves off another drink. "So who are you? Let's not play any more games or I'll call the actual security." She smiles pleasantly.

"I'm Vega", she replies, as if that answers your question. "Where's Zeph? If you let him know I'm here, he'll tell you it's fine."
May 20, 2019 8:17 am
"And how does Zeph know you, Vega?"
May 20, 2019 8:26 am
Vega sits down on the couch and puts the knife down on the table. Cass notices a small, unlabeled bottle of pills on the table next to the drink and food. "Honestly, that's none of your business."

At the bar

Moira sniffs the Lion Bile and cringes, not daring to take a full sip yet. She slaps her cheeks a few times like a strange drum solo and sits down, offering Julia and her compatriots a seat.

Soo. Alex is yer mah an' yer gettin' married soon. Sounds like a wylde ryde. Yeh'll hafta fergive us drunks. We jest got done with ah new ferst contact with a race that started hostile. Like, real hostile. Almost killed Zeph here. An' they held yer mah hostage, too. Ah'm guessin that's what tha noot's aboot. Yeh don't hafta listen ta it here if yeh want it ta be private. But yer mah's a great ossifer under pressure. Why were yeh lookin fer her anyway? Jes tha weddin'?

Julia sits down with Moira, the people she came in with have withdrawn from the whole conversation some time ago and are talking to each other as well as other patrons of the bar.
Now that the chaos seems to have subsided a bit after her mother and Cass have stormed out, Julia seems to calm down a bit and to be able to better focus on Moira and understand her.
"I wasn't actually looking for her. I didn't even know she would be here. I'm stationed here, Junior Operations Officer in one of the environmental control centers on the island. Maen put in a word for me and helped me get the position here right after I graduated." She looks a bit embarrassed about admitting that she had help in getting her assignment. "But if I had known what she went through... Those messages just flew past me."

Ah, a techie! Ah'm an engineer mahself. Thoo ah'm workin' on counsalin'. She doesn't flinch when Julia references her connection. Part of Spacefleet is who you know. Moira puts a hand on Julia's shoulder. Lestin, Lass. Et happens. Mah pa went ta tha hospital an' ah missed et cuz' of a bad line 'a cood in tha message. But! Yer mah's alive, an' fine. Yeh can pick things up from here. She smiles encouragingly, though it still looks a bit ghoulish with the booze in her system, and rests her head on her hands.

SoooooOOOOOOoooooo. Maen, eh?

Julia leans slightly away from Moira. That woman is acting very familiar, considering they've just met a few minutes ago.
"Yes, Maen. Actually, for you it would be Theliak. He's Farredan, they're very particular about their names.", Julia explains. "He came to the Academy to speak to my professor about a project of his. He's a very interesting man and not just because of his biology." Although she's still a bit hesitant to speak to Moira about her personal matters, the engineer notices her eyes light up with excitement when she speaks about her fiance.
