Shore Leave: The Bar

Stone smiles at Cass and she realizes that he knew about Moira's plans. "And do you need a career change, too? You were in the same situation after all."
His tone is very conversational. He puts the leaves that he didn't use for his pipe back into his pouch and rummages in there for something else.
May 27, 2019 8:28 pm
Smirking at his good-natured deception, Cass shakes her head slightly. "No, I was in a very different situation." She doesn't explain what she means by that. "And I'm honestly not sure what I need. Most of my life, I was on a certain path. It wasn't really a good path - meaning it probably wasn't going to end well for me - but it felt like it me. It was what I had chosen.

"Then someone came along and convinced me to start on a different path. At first, almost everyone was telling me that I didn't belong, that I didn't deserve the new position, and they were probably right, at the time. But now... suddenly, all those naysayers are full of praise for me. But nothing has really changed. I just did what felt right at the time. I haven't suddenly changed, so how am I suddenly--"
She stops, realizing that she's hashing over the same things she'd said to Alex the day before, and so maybe the problem is really something other than what she's talking about.

Smiling at Stone, she says, "Sorry. It's just a post-traumatic existential crisis. I'm going to shut up now."
May 27, 2019 8:34 pm
Stone pulls out a lighter that looks tiny is his huge hands and lights his pipe. He takes a deep drag and asks: "So you're saying you don't belong in spacefleet? If that job is not you, then why not quit and find something else?"
May 27, 2019 8:43 pm
"That's exactly what someone keeps urging me to do. Part of me wants to be free of it all, but another part of me thinks that's probably just an excuse to avoid dealing with things." She looks at him. "You were in Spacefleet, right? Why'd you leave?"
May 27, 2019 8:47 pm
"I wasn't in spacefleet. I had a bar on the Bull for a while but I was always a civilian." He takes another drag of his pipe and then offers it to Cass. "If you quit the fleet, what would you want to do instead?" He smiles to himself. "You know, I could use a helping hand here sometimes"
May 27, 2019 9:14 pm
Laughing, Cass waves off the pipe and says, "You wouldn't say that if you'd ever seen me try to mix drinks. No, if I left Spacefleet, I'd do something that involved flying, I guess. It's the only thing I was ever really interested in."

Inside

The three of you inside notice that there is some growing unrest happening. Nic leaving caused some murmured discussions at the front door. Apparently, some people want to leave and ignore the lockdown and others are trying to stop them. There is also a group of people at the bar that seem to be in a troublemaking kind of mood. You hear a man mutter: "Where'd that damn turtle man go to?" Another one yells out: "Hey barkeep, we're drying out here. We need some refills!" A third one suggests: "Screw it. There's drinks everywhere. If that turtle can't keep his eyes on the booze, let's just grab some!"

Outside

Stone shrugs and puts the pipe back between his lips. "If all you ever wanted was to be a pilot, why did you accept your promotion? Doesn't being a first officer keep you out of the cockpit?"
May 27, 2019 10:15 pm
Cass shifts her weight uncomfortably. "My captain said he saw something in me that nobody else was seeing. Challenged me to rise to my potential - no pun intended. He convinced me that I could be more than a pilot and a troublemaker." She shrugs. "And he was right. I'm just trying to decide whether that's really what I want."
May 27, 2019 10:27 pm
Moira overhears the conversation and rises.

Alira, dear, take the door, please? Ah suspect yer more comfortable in a crowd than behind a bar.

As for Moira, she gets up and hops to the bar. She taps nonsense on her datapad and writes on a small sheet of paper to give the appearance of signing in to her shift. With a strong stance and a winning smile, the only person who would look more at home there is Stone himself.

Pleased ta see yeh, gentlemen. Ah hope yeh dunnae mind yer tab is over two shifts. What can I get for yeh?

She winks.
OOC:
When you're back, Bowl, I'd love to know the fastest way to get these guys to not rob Stone.

Alira moves to the door.

Just because one fool wants to get shot, it doesn't make it any less stupid.
Drinks are being served and this should all be over soon.
Take a seat and enjoy yourself.

Moira, what you're doing sounds like a good plan. They were just thinking about making use of the opportunity but now that someone is behind the counter again, they won't dare to try and steal anything.
Inside

Alira, people turn around to look at you and the murmuring stops. After a second, someone says: "This is bullshit. This resort was supposed to be weapons free. I had leave my phaser on CC1. If someone is running around armed, I want it back."

Moira, the guys look at you, trying to figure out if you actually belong or not since they've never seen anyone except for Stone behind the counter here, but you look very convincing, so they decide not to risk it. "Three Masconian Gin Mixes", the one who had suggested to steal something to drink barks.

Outside

Stone takes a deep drag from his pipe. "So you wanted to prove to the universe that you could do it? And now that you're a hero and everyone knows that you can, you don't know if this challenge is worth continuing?"

Well, this might just work.

I know. It's a pain in the ass. But let's make the most of it.
OOC:
If there is any well known song among Spacefleet members...especially an off colour song...Alira will start singing and yell at Moira to join in

OOC:
Not sure if this counts as expert or prepared. I am going to add one die because I hope Moira helps.

Alira starts to sing The Cadet And The Captain's Daughterat the top of her voice. She is an average singer, but enthusiastic.

The cadet snuck out on Friday night...
Don't pretend that you don't know the words.
Moira...join in.

Alira sways back and forth and continues singing.

Cass recognizes a trap set to get a rise out of her when she hears one, but it still pisses her off. She manages to keep most of it out of her voice.

"I'm not a hero. I wish people would stop saying that. I just did the best I could, and I got lucky. Mostly. There's no reason to think I could repeat that a second time."

The people h the door that you were talking to look confused at first but soon a few others join in your singing and eventually, even they get swept up in it and start singing as well.
At the first chorus, about half the bar is singing along while the other half's reactions vary between laughing at the song and the situation and being annoyed and complaining to their friends about it.

When the song ends Alira points at one of the non singers.

Your turn...what do we sing next?

If she won't pick I will open it to the floor.

Outside

Stone smiles again. "If that is how you feel you should probably quit your job as fast as you can. Before anyone notices you're not suited for it."

Inside

The man Alira pointed at looks a bit flustered. "Me?" She hesitates and looks at her friend next to her. The whisper for a bit and then at the same time start singing The Latinum Freighter, which is just a general spacefaring song, not related to spacefleet, but it's pretty well known so you know the lyrics.
May 28, 2019 6:38 am
There you go.

Alira sings along. She will keep this up until Stone comes back or the alert is lifted.
She will pick someone each time to choose the song. Trying to get more people involved. If they won't, someone will. The crowd is rolling now.

"Yeah, maybe." She grins sadly. "Problem is, I'm not sure if that is how I feel. But... I appreciate the talk. I guess I just have to keep trying to work it out for myself." She gestures toward the door. "I assume you have a key?"
