Andy
After a period of time, perhaps an hour or so, Enos and the men who stayed with him place large locks on each of the doors. They then depart back toward the watch station.
Jul 4, 2019 1:58 pm
When a search of the house yields nothing other than the men and plants he already knew about, Andy curses his inexperience as he realizes he needs to find out who these men are dealing with. When he gets a moment he can approach unnoticed, Andy catches Enos's eye. I'll leave the interrogation of these men to you, Enos. I'm going to do a little more investigating. He hurriedly heads to a food vendor to get some breakfast, buying some bread and cheese for later. He returns to his vantage point near the building and settles in, napping when he can, but keeping a general eye on the place hoping to catch whomever might be vexed by the now-locked smuggler's den.

Unfortunately, due to the lateness of the hour, by the time you get back to the dock area all shops are closed. However, you manage to get comfortable, and have a good view of the building without having to be out in the open yourself. You nod in and out, and suddenly you are awakened by the light of day. The city is coming to life below, and you start fully awake, afraid that you have slept through anything worthwhile.

However, you realize that it was not just the light of day that woke you, but the clatter of someone trying the lock on the door across the alleyway. You see a human figure, thin as a rail and fairly tall even for a man. He is hooded, so his face is unseen, but he walks quickly toward the dock markets, passing below you as he does.
OOC:
Perception check, please.

OOC:
For some reason, I thought it was getting light out by the time the bust went down.

Another perception check? Rolling in case the answer is yes.

My apologies if I made it seem that way. It was around 2AM perhaps when you found the sailors, and NLT 4:30 by the time the raid finished and they locked up.
The figure passes under you, but the angle is such that you cannot see him (her?) clearly. They walk down the alley, and turn left, heading away from the docks.

Andy, quick as he can while still trying to be quiet, climbs down from his perch and attempts to follow.
OOC:
Looking at the posts, my guess is I didn't read carefully enough (I was still on vacation). I think the part with the lights coming on and people coming out made me think it was the sun and early risers instead of a bunch of looky-loos.

Scurrying down the stairwells and pipes, you land with a thump on the ground, causing a cat to screech and tear off into the darkness. A moment's pause assures you that no one around heard, or at least no one comes to look, and you run toward where the figure rounded the alley.

Exiting into the main street, you see that the streetlights are still lit, but the shops are all dark. There appears to be no one about, save for a watch patrol moving away from you off to your right and toward the docks.

Dammit! Andy curses to himself. Hoping the watch patrol scared the hooded figure into hiding, Andy slips back into the side street to see if anyone reappears when the watch moves on.
OOC:
Let's see if I can do better this time.

Slinking into a dark corner, you watch the street for a few minutes. The patrol moves off and out of sight, yet no one else appears.
OOC:
I'll leave it up to you to determine how long to wait.

OOC:
Andy would wait about ten minutes. If the hooded figure doesn't reappear, he'll go back to the alley to look around to see if he can find anything else. If he can't find anything, he'll pop the lock and do a search of the house before replacing the lock and heading back to his room.

Several minutes pass, and you begin to feel that your quarry has eluded you for now. Working back to the house, you find the lock placed by the city watch is sturdy and new.
OOC:
Lockpick roll, my good sir. :)

You work the lock for a few minutes, furtively looking around to see if you are being watched. Suddenly there is a tink sound and your thieves tool snaps! The lock, however, remains intact.

With a grimace and a groan, you throw away the useless, broken piece of metal, and retrieve another. Concentrating intently, you give a twist and a push and the lock falls open easily.

Andy slips the lock into his pack and heads in, scoping out the rooms, looking for anything that might point him in the direction of other miscreants.
OOC:
If it's an Investigation check, that's a +0!
OOC:
I think it's just time for Andy to go to bed. That's way too many rolls for this unlucky player.
