The festival is in full swing today, as you trudge wearily around town. Feats of strength, wit and dexterity abound, and it seems as if every section of town has its own little carnival or parade going on. The throngs are neigh impossible to navigate, but you find yourself amazed to discover Arlene and her husband Bethel eating a small bit of pastries while watching a troupe of acrobats tumbling and diving their way around a roped-off section of the street. While they seem to be enjoying themselves, you can see the sadness in Arlene's eyes even from far away.
OOC:
Unless you have something specific to talk to Hilgo about, we can assume your reports were already made this AM. Also, you can update your DnD Beyond sheet to add your reward money :)

When he realizes Hilgo has still not returned, Andy drops off his written report and heads for the festival, determined to find Bethel and Arlene. He is shocked that, despite the throngs of people, he finds the couple within a relatively short period of time. Realizing he can't speak to them without falling back into the "little boy" persona he first approached them with, Andy keeps his distance from the couple, but keeps an eye on them. Trying to avoid them while not actively trying to hide from them. Just like when you bring your daughter to a carnival near your parents' and you spot a classmate from 35 years ago you have no desire to reconnect with.

Without letting the grieving couple wander too far away, Andy finds himself enjoying the festival, despite being tired and a little heartsick at not finding a solid lead to any stolen youth. He looks for some fellow Halflings to talk with, engages in some feats of dexterity, and generally overindulges in food. When he spots Bethel and Arlene leaving, he trails them until they lead him to their home. Filing the location away, he heads back to enjoy himself until after dusk.

Before retiring for the evening, he heads to Enos's guard station. Enos? I was wondering if you could do me a favor? He gives a description of Bethel and Arlene, along with the location of their home. I don't want to speak to them on my own and risk giving away my mission, but they were the ones who gave me the tip that led to the drug smugglers. He hands Enos a pouch with 10 gold in it. I think it's only fair they get a finder's fee. If you could give this to them along with a message. Tell them this is a reward for the tip that led to a group of smugglers. Tell them they shouldn't get their hopes up, but the investigation is ongoing. Can you do that for me, Enos?

"Shore thing, Andy. You helped me 'n the boys here at th' station look mighty good to th' cap'n, so's I would be happy t' repay in kind. " Shaking the bag, he counts out the coins to be certain of the amount, then tucks it away.

"And we'll find those that have done these folks wrong. Or we'll never stop tryin', anyways."

With a nod, Andy heads to bed, hoping to finally catch up on his sleep. The next morning, he starts a list of what he needs to pose as a merchant before taking it to Enos.

I still need to work on the new persona. I'll have at least a rough idea by tomorrow.

No hurry, I need time to work through the other's combat and possible recruit TWO new players already.

Though you get a lot more sleep than the day before, you still feel a bit weary as you get up the following morning. Outside, the sun is just barely cracking dawn and a thin payer of fog covers the ground and harbor. The sky is mostly cloudy, and a faint breeze buffets leaves and mist occasionally, and from your window you can see vendors already up and about getting ready for the third day of the festival.

Downstairs, you can smell the baking breaks and cooking meats of the pastry shops and cafe's as they make ready to feed the starving hordes of revelers. From down the street you hear the creaking of wheels as the street vendors are already hawking their roasted nuts, corn, doughnuts and other.

With a stretch you wake yourself fully and make plans for the day....

It takes a lot longer that you had hoped, nearly a week longer in fact, but eventually you have all of the things required to perform the mission you were assigned. You were able to contact Hilgo, and in reply he informs you of a wagon train headed your way. Bastion Sales is the merchant working his way west to the fishing village of Saltmarsh, and would be a perfect cover for you to join, if you meet them.
OOC:
Just a quick flash-forward and prompt, trying to get the groups all assembled.

The first week passes quickly as Andy enjoys the festival while working on his disguise and cover story. He doesn't make it too complicated, since he'll have to inhabit the character for long stretches. Clothing with some padding sewn in to give him more girth, a short, brown wig, and a little bit of make-up to make him appear a few years older. The real transformation is in speech and attitude as Andy loses his wide-eyed, nearly childlike demeanor to adopt the gregarious personality of Wilibald Bolger.

As he enters the second week, with the festival over, Andy finds himself growing restless. He finds himself taking to the streets in his guise as Will the Bulge (as Andy sometimes remarks to people to get that nickname going, giving the illusion that Wilibald Bolger has been around a lot longer and is more well-known than he actually is).

Once his cargo is secured, Andy awaits the arrival of Bastion Sales in order to join up with his caravan.
OOC:
What's something Seaton has that Saltmarsh needs? Fishing hooks, maybe? Grain? Potatoes?
Aug 5, 2019 7:59 pm
OOC:
Definitely anything fishing related. They also, recently, have a group of dwarves establishing a mine, so sny mining gear would be needed.
OOC:
Also, sorry I missed posting Friday. I flew to Chicago and left my laptop home.... I'm currently catching up.

Then mining gear it is!

The day passes slowly, and is fairly boring as you get into character with your new persona, testing it out, talking to people, fleshing out his story with the locals so as to make things more believable. As you give up for today and start to head home, you hear thunder rolling to the east and far out over the Azure Sea you can see the formings of a storm in the distance.

If that were not enough, you see a priest coming down the street, having just arrived with a caravan. He seems to be carting a dead body into town..
Aug 8, 2019 8:10 pm
Andy watches the priest for a moment before heading to the caravan. He approaches the first person he sees and introduces himself. Hello! The name's Wilibald Bolger. Could you direct me to the caravan master? I believe I am to be joining you on the road to Saltmarsh.

The man you address is human, with hark hair and an olive complexion. Smiling, he bows slightly and offers his hand. "Bastion Sales. Purveyor of the finest in quality gear. Have you a need, perhaps, of some fine glassware? Perhaps you seek to research the dark underworld? I've the best made lanterns by the top craftsmen in the land!" he says.

"I had no idea we were picking up more travelers, sir halfling. For whom do you work? Perhaps I have just forgotten this most important point."
Aug 10, 2019 6:52 pm
Why, I work for myself, good sir! I've just been waiting for the next caravan to Saltmarsh to get my supply of mining tools to the Dwarves who are so eagerly awaiting the arrival of my fine goods! A lone merchant is an easy target, even in the best of times. He motions toward the priest departing with his fallen burden then meaningfully taps his finger on a broken arrow still protruding from the side of the wagon. And these are not exactly the best of times, are they?

"Aye, they are not, friend." Bastion replies.

"Mining tools, y' say? Interesting to be sure. One of those who joined my caravan in Gradsul has seen fit to buy what seems like every dwarf-made nail in Sanduchar in an attempt to sell them to fisher folk here and every fishing village on the coast. And he's a priest, no less!"
Aug 17, 2019 8:19 pm
The same priest carting your fallen comrade? I suppose the trade in alms is poor along the road. I can't imagine he's paying for his passage with hard work! Wil lets out a guffaw at the thought.

I totally get it. My other game here, I started the same way, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. However there, people posted regularly, and the game has moved along really well. Here, not so much, hence my recent flash-forwards to try and get the group at least into two parties converging on Saltmarsh. It seems as soon as I get people together, others drop.

My apologies again, for the shaky start.
Aug 19, 2019 12:49 pm
Bastion chuckles at your comment, replying "Aye, Master Bolger, the priest is one in the same. A boisterous fellow, full of religion to be sure, but I'm of the thought he seeks his fortune in other ways as well. Speaks well enough as to the why of things, for the children, but I'll have to see it my self to be certain."

Pausing to finish up what he is doing, Bastion then adds "You are most welcome to join our merry little company, sir. It'll be but couple of days to Saltmarsh. Do yo have much goods to bring? I've no room left in my wagon, but perhaps Mellon has room in his. He's the tall, sullen-looking fellow over there by that wagon." he points to a second wagon where an older man, tal and lanky with flame-red hair is loading and unloading goods.
