"The hell? It's still talking!" says Karl. "India..."

He scribbles that down too.

King watched intently as Karl scribbled his notes, thinking of associations between the words he mentioned.

Karl keeps scribbling. "Moon." He looks at the words he's written. "Exeter, India, Moon. E... I... M..."

He glances at the others, eyebrows raised with a skeptical cast. "Anything? No? I'll keep listening."

"Dallan?" Karl writes that down too. "Never heard the word "dallan" before. Maybe it's a name?"

He continues listening.

Karl mutters, "Seer."

Scribble scribble. "If it’s a code, it doesn’t seem to be a simple one."

King ran the words in his mind, Exeter, India, Moon, Dallan, Seer, and waited to see if Karl had more.

"Um, DIMES? For a payphone, maybe." Kylie continues her own search, despite the hairs on the back of her neck itching. "Did either of you call in a trace on that line?"

"Daimonion?" says Karl. "This shit is getting weirder and weirder."

As he writes it down, he says to Kylie, "I don’t think it’s a standard phone. Seems more like an old Army mobile radio backpack. Don’t know if you played with army men as much as I did as a kid, but it looks like the thing the radio guy carried on his back."

Turning to King, he says, "You or Kirby have any military background?"

Kylie frowns and then worried that she hasn't stopped doing that since they entered the apartment. "Daimonion, huh. You really don't want to know what that means. In simple terms, it's sort of like an inner voice to and from the gods. But the voice is a messenger, a being in itself."

"What frequency are you receiving? Have you tried others?" King wasn't familiar with the make nor model of the backpack, but had sufficient exposure to codes and messages via military intelligence.

Karl looks askance at the telephone handset. "Well. That's... cheerful to know," he replies to Kylie, then offers a sardonic smile. "You're a bundle of laughs today."

He checks over the backpack unit to see if a frequency can be identified.

"Or get Kirby in here. He looks like he's familiar with these sorts of equipment."
