SCENE: ROGER’s Apartment.
A knock at the door.
ROGER: Abigail?
The door opens. LOUIS enters.
ROGER: Oh, it’s you.
LOUIS: Have you read it yet?
ROGER: Yeah, I read it.
LOUIS: And?
ROGER: It’s interesting, I’d like to read it again.
THE DOG BARKS.
LOUIS: Well?
ROGER: I gave it to Michelle. It’s her turn.
A knock at the door.
ROGER: Abigail?
The door opens. LOUIS enters.
ROGER: Oh, it’s you.
LOUIS: Have you read it yet?
ROGER: Yeah, I read it.
LOUIS: And?

Karl rolls his shoulders to loosen the tension that's growing there. "There's also this... a map, it seems like." He spreads it out on a convenient surface. "We might check out some of the spots that are marked here, since it seems to correspond to the building fairly well."

King nodded to Kirby. "Yes let's check on this Michelle. I'll come with you."
But before that, King examined the map that Karl laid out, his years of intelligence analysis coming in handy. "This unit, Abigail's is 1A. The receipt you found says she paid rent for 10B, which is unoccupied, according to the mailboxes. We should check that apartment too."
Minor question: does the map contain apartment numbers? Or does Kirby know already how the apartments are numbered?

A point of confusion for me, so I didn't want to ponder it in character: the map description 78 posted describes a third floor. Santouche, in your clarification post earlier you said it was obvious it was a three storey building, and the floors are described as ground, first and second. Am I over-reading a clue, or am I misunderstanding the labels for the floors?Minor question: does the map contain apartment numbers? Or does Kirby know already how the apartments are numbered?

The floor labels are correct. ‘3rd floor landing’ is the the top of the stairs, with a door presumably leading out to the roof. It’s not a floor proper, just a landing - no apts or anything, at least according to the map. The apts are unlabelled on the map, but Kirby knows the numbering for the ground and 1st floors and could probably surmise the 2nd floor layout as well.

Karl looks to Kirby and King. "You two want to check out the map while we keep searching?" he asks, gesturing to Kylie. "Or do you think we should try and stay together?"
He rubs at his cheek, tiredness starting to creep in to his eyes. "Gotta admit, this place is giving me the serious creeps, but... gotta be catalogued, right?"

Karl suddenly snaps his fingers. "Hang on a second..."
He reaches to a small pile of items nearby and grabs a yellowed slip of paper. "Place is doing things to my head. Check this out. Receipt's made out to Abigail, but it's for Apartment 10B, not 1A. And I can't tell who actually signed it. It's from July, but something's been done to the paper. Looks way older, don't you think?"
Karl hands the receipt out to anyone who wants to take a closer look. "Abigail went missing in June." He turns to Kirby then, "You've been around the building a little... is there an apartment 10B?"

"I haven't seen one but I only went 1 up from here. I assume there is one. It on the mailbox listings."

"Right. Let's physically verify all the apartment numbers and see that they tally with the mailboxes, and we can put those numbers down on the map." King got ready to exit the room with Kirby.

Kirby straightens out his yankees jersey. "Ok". Kirby bends down and reties his shoes and makes sure his weapon is ready. "Ready".

King patted his sidearm under his breast pocket as well. "Just a sweep of each floor then. And check for occupants." With that he opened the door and stepped out into the main hallway, relying on Kirby to point out which ground floor units he had already checked on.
