"It was supposed to keep you in line. That didn't work out as expected but what ever does? It was a bluff by the way. Your friend Theliak will be just fine." He stands up and walks closer to you while still keeping some distance. "We did our research while you were sleeping. Turns out you are actually Shawna Cassano. I don't see what the point of all that confusion was but I'm glad it's been resolved. And you are Alexandra Lloyd, right? I've heard about your negotiations with the Naplicans." He points towards one of the beds. "Sit down, let's have a conversation - no phasers, no knives, no punches. You can call me Hector."
Jun 12, 2019 11:02 pm
"Well, just remember that I told you I was Cassano from the start. And thanks for confirming Theliak's condition. I did suspect it was a bluff when your guard across the street stunned us without changing the setting on his rifle."

Assuming you follow his invitation to sit down, Hector does the same, although with some distance and an empty bed between you and him. "I apologize for your no doubt uncomfortable awakening down in the basement but we've had to discuss some things that were not intended for your ears. And when we attacked your group, you all proved more of a challenge than expected so we had to restrain you to hinder your ability to fight us if that's what you were doing to try. We didn't start out on a good note but let me assure you, we have no intention to hurt you."

Cass and Alex manage to sit down on the bed, but it's difficult and, frankly, silly-looking. "Look, I can appreciate your abundance of caution after that scene at the party, but you could at least remove the cuffs tethering us together. You all have phasers and we don't, so how much of a threat can we really be? Alex here's a diplomat, and I'm pretty much housebroken."
Jun 13, 2019 3:37 pm
"And despite my undeniably imposing physical presence, I’m not actually able to disable a room full of enemies with nothing more than my hands, feet and a bizarre sword-pen combo thingy," Alex says blandly. "I promise to behave."
Jun 13, 2019 4:04 pm
Hector nods at the woman at the table. She gets up, puts her phaser on the table and comes up to you. She holds a data chip against the cuffs that are tying you together. They open simultaneously on both ends. The woman takes them and sits back down at the table.
"I don't expect you to take out a full room of us but I prefer not to risk any injuries at all when avoidable." Hector speaks calmly but with a tone that Alex recognizes as the same one she uses in her diplomatic work. "And as for enemies, Alexandra, I hope we're not enemies. That's what we have to find out now."
Jun 13, 2019 4:14 pm
Cass sighs in relief as the tether is disconnected and positions herself more comfortably on the bed, then smiles sweetly at Hector.

"You can forgive us the impression, I think, since you introduced yourselves by threatening us with supposedly deadly phasers, then knives to our throats, kidnapping, stunning, and handcuffs. The first four are definitely not the actions of friends, and the fifth only is when the restraining is consensual. So why don't you tell us exactly what this is all about and dispense with trying to handle us, all right, Hector?"

"Trust me. She's hard to handle," murmurs Alex. "And it's Alex, thank you. Not even my mother called me Alexandra."

She shrugs casually. "I'm perfectly happy to hear you out. The one with the hostages starts out holding all the cards, after all."
Jun 13, 2019 5:48 pm
"Alex, as you wish. I understand that your first impression of my team was not very favorable but I hope you can look past that. It was never our intention to kidnap anyone. If it had been, we would have simply stunned all of you right away and taken whoever we wanted. Even when we took you, our original plan was to just drop you off in the forest somewhere. We only changed our mind because we decided that - if you are not a threat - you and your crew might be able to help us. I believe we are on the same side, I just have to make sure." He turns to the woman at the table but when he speaks again, he still addresses Cass and Alex. "I'm going to have to ask you a few questions and Endra will be able to verify whether you're answering truthfully or not, if you let her."
Jun 13, 2019 6:06 pm
Until now, Cass hasn't actually gotten a good look at the woman's face, but the mention of Endra's name causes her to tense up and pay her more attention. Yes, it's definitely the woman who was identified at the security briefing as responsible for drugging cadets and stealing technology.

She'd also fired a potentially lethal phaser shot at Alira during her escape.

"And how will Endra verify our truthfulness, exactly?" she asks, an undeniable edge to her voice that hasn't been there so far. "By disintegrating us if she thinks we're lying?"
Jun 13, 2019 6:12 pm
"Nobody is going to get disintegrated, Shawna.", Hector replies. "Endra has Locan heritage. She can't fully mind meld but she is able to establish a light connection that will allow her to determine truth or lie when you're answering. It's the easiest and fastest way to determine whether we can trust you or not."
Jun 13, 2019 6:18 pm
"Oh, well, that's great, but what's the easiest and fastest way for us to determine if we can trust you? Because that woman--" Cass points at Endra "--fired a phaser set to kill at my soon-to-be-new security chief. So your whole 'we don't want to hurt anyone' messaging is a little undermined by that fact, don't you think?"
Jun 13, 2019 6:37 pm
Hector looks at Endra, allowing her to reply. "You mean the gal from the cottage? I wouldn't have killed her, just put her in the infirmary for a day or two. She's darn fast though, isn't she?"
Hector turns his attention back to Cass and Alex. "Once I know that I can trust you, I will brief you on what we are doing here. Of course it's up to you whether you will believe me or not but I have documentation that can confirm my story."
Jun 13, 2019 7:32 pm
"I have to say, I'm a little uncomfortable willingly subjecting ourselves to any sort of Locan mind touch without more reason to trust you," says Alex, eyes narrowed as she looks back at Hector and Endra. "I propose the following. I will subject myself to your questions, with the mind touch, but Commander Cassano will be left alone until I suggest to her that it is safe. She and I have a code phrase that I will use to indicate to her that I am not acting under undue outside influence." She glances at Cass and smiles, that sardonic, lopsided smile she uses so often.
Jun 13, 2019 7:40 pm
Cass opens her mouth to say that if either of them goes first, it should be her (because of course she does), but stops short of actually saying it. As a command-level officer, Cass has classified codes and knowledge that Alex doesn't, so it's much riskier to Spacefleet for her to be compromised.

Instead, she asks, "And how will I know that she didn't simply extract that code phrase from your mind to fool me?"
Jun 13, 2019 7:51 pm
Alex looks back at Endra, folding her arms across her chest, fixing the woman with a cool smile. "Because she's not good enough to accomplish such a thing, even if she wanted to."
Jun 13, 2019 7:54 pm
Endra locks eyes with Alex and replies: "You're right, I'm not. Should we begin then?"
Jun 13, 2019 8:04 pm
Alex glances at Cass. "You're going to owe me a Tail Twister after this. A real one, not those Nekkian roast spider chicken abominations."

She takes a deep breath and nods to Endra. "Let's get this over with."
Jun 13, 2019 8:13 pm
Cass swallows and tries to hide her anxiety. She's going to owe Alex a lot more than a drink, especially if this procedure goes awry.
Jun 13, 2019 9:01 pm
Endra sits down next to Alex on the bed. She gives her a reassuring smile and then places the fingers of her right hand on Alex' face and neck. She closes her eyes and slightly repositions her fingers a few times until she finds the right spots. Slowly, an uncomfortable feeling rises in Alex' head, first barely noticeable but after a few seconds it grows into a headache that feels almost exactly like a terrible hangover.
Endra nods lightly and Hector asks a series of questions: "What is your name and rank? Where and when were you born? Why are you on this planet? Are you in any way associated with the Naplican Empire? If yes, in what way? What do you know about a man named Metahk? What do you know about Project Great Flood?"
OOC:
If you are lying in response to any of these questions, let me know which answers are not true and give me a Lasers roll. If you are answering thruthfully, there's no need to roll. Neither of you have heard about this project or the man he asked you about. You do recognize that the name is Naplican, however,
