Wei ends both roaches with a single stroke of his sword! With her burning hands, Feng tears apart the one munching on the headsman, but she also burns the man in the process.

In the aftermath of battle, the yard is mired in pungent roach guts. In the middle of it is the dying headsman, his flesh sizzling, his mouth moving wordlessly, trying to say something. Feng leans in close, but the man expires before he can confess.

What do you do now?
Jun 26, 2019 6:27 pm
OOC:
That was your last use of your Burning Brand, Xian. You were already down to 1/3 here. Combat's over anyway.
Jun 26, 2019 6:51 pm
Iko takes a moment to gather himself, brushing off some of the roach gore and pushing himself up off the ground. "Thank you for the assistance, Wei." He says, not giving a second glance to Wei or his broken staff before walking over to the fallen headman and Xian Feng.
"Do we still need to speak with him?" he asks her.
Jun 26, 2019 6:56 pm
OOC:
Forgot to change it after I copy/pasted, but yeah.
With a lack of enemies to kill Feng feels herself start regain control, calming down enough to think clearly. Then she looks down at the sight of the dead man. She swears the ghost is laughing in the back of her head. "Shit." She watches the last of her fire slip away, annoyed this fool became collateral. Without a clear path forward she searches the man, hoping to find a clue on his body.
Jun 26, 2019 7:44 pm
Iko watches Feng's transformation with interest, but places his hand on her shoulder when she attempt to search the body. "There's an easier way."
The priest kneels before the body, taking the small knife from around his neck. Using the point, he gently carves a symbol into the pad of his left thumb. His cheek twitches slightly in reaction to the pain, but the cuts are superficial. Once he is finished, he places his thumb on the forehead of the corpse, printing the symbol "Speak" in blood.
OOC:
Iko is attempting to cast 'Speak with Dead' on the corpse.

Rolls

Cast 'Speak with Dead' (Roll+WIS - (2d6+2)

Wei flicks Kun Wu, in the hopes of, getting some of the gore off of the blade. Using a cloth, he found on the corral fence, Wei wipes the blade clean. Once done, Wei sheathes the sword and walks up to his friends.

Wu Meng hoped that he had bought Rong Hua sufficient time to make headway towards finding the text. He was too slow to stop the sentry from raising the alarm, and found his blows inadequate to punch through the crab armor. It was time to escape, if he could; perhaps they would follow him out and away.
OOC:
Defy Danger by slipping out of the claw grasp and heading for the exit, so roll+DEX.
HP: 21-6=15, XP: 4

Finally, a good roll!

Damn it...
The female cursed, looking between Wu and Zhao.
You owe me now.
The female then said as she turned back to help Wu.

Far too slippery for the stupid crab-man, Wu Meng wriggles out of the pincer grip and readies himself to lead the guards on a merry chase and away from here. But he sees Rong Hua turning from the mansion and towards him. She doesn't notice a hulking crab-man as it emerges from the koi pond and lumbers towards her!

What do you do, Wu Meng?

Battle Music!
The Mumin Ghetto

The cockroach herder's corpse stirs, and turns sightless eyes towards Iko.
OOC:
Ask your three questions, Iko.
Jun 28, 2019 7:45 am
We shall have to learn to be a better team. Wu Meng made a mental note to talk through team tactics with the assassin in future. Eschewing weapons, he fished out a common stone shard he kept on himself for such purposes, and flung it at what he deemed a weak spot in the crab-man's carapace.
OOC:
Volley, Monk's improv ranged weapon (thrown, near). Edit: reduce ammo by one.

Wu Meng's flung stone hits the crab-man dead on. The single-minded brute flinches but keeps coming, but Rong Hua is aware of it now. A thought comes to her belatedly: why didn't Zhao Xun kill the lead guard, the one with the whistle? It's unlike the assassin to be so careless. Unless he wanted the alarm raised! But why?

Out in the street, one of the crab-men turns to the human captain and decapitates the man with a single snap of its claw, then turns to fight its fellow!  What is going on?

What do you do, Rong Hua and Meng?
Jun 28, 2019 5:50 pm
Feng feels a trail of smoke flow past her ears, whispering for revenge. "Ask what he did to the roaches, who he works for, and how we can really hurt them."
Jun 28, 2019 9:57 pm
Iko nods, turning his attention back to the corpse. "What did you do to the roaches?"
Jun 29, 2019 1:12 am
Seeing that the situation with the handler is going well, Wei steps out and simply keeps guard.
Jun 29, 2019 1:35 am
Meng whirled around and flicked another smooth pebble at the crabman, trying to keep it away from Rong Hua. His throughts were a fog, and he tried to make sense of the odd circumstances. There must be someone else involved, a third party besides the assassin Rong Hua recognised, someone they hadn't seen. Magic user! Controlling the minds of these crabmen! Meng looked around for other hidden enemies.
OOC:
+WIS roll is still +1 -1 =0 Edit: Reduce ammo by one.

"Yellow Zombie Mold," the corpse gasps, confirming what Feng gleaned earlier. You've all heard tell of a mold that infects colonies of forest ants, sapping their bodies of nutrients and taking over their minds, but this is the first you've heard of anyone using the mold deliberately, and on something so large!

The roaches in their pens have grown quiet. Wei can see that they've fallen on their backs, legs and feelers trembling in their final death throes. Yellow, branch-like growths bursts out of their bellies and begin to grow.
Jun 29, 2019 2:19 am
"He speaks the truth, the roaches just died. Looks like some yellow growths are growing out of the bodies like branches."
