Battle Music!

The crab-brute stumbles when Wu Meng's second stone hits it in the face. The two smaller crab-men scuttle back and forth in front of the gate in a dance of death, each one locked in the other's powerful pincers.

Wary of hidden foes, Wu Meng looks about but doesn't see anything hidden un the shadows. The other patrol will be along any moment now - he can hear the call and answer of their warning whistles.
OOC:
Mark 1 XP, Wu Meng.
Zhao Xun must have located the scroll by now, unless he's been caught. What do you do, Wu Meng and Rong Hua?
Jun 29, 2019 10:57 am
"We're clear Hua! You can still go after Zhao Xun!" He understood that Zhao Xun wanted to steal the text and pin the blame on the two of them instead by leaving them alive to be caught. Perhaps someone was outside controlling the means of escape for Zhao Xun, and inadvertently for them as well. In any case, Meng now turned to the sentry to try to stop him from raising the alarm further, and looked out for the next patrol.
OOC:
So no more crabmen where they are inside the compound, the sentry is left, two crabmen fighting outside, and sounds of the next patrol coming, correct?

OOC:
The big one you've been throwing rocks at is bloodied but still alive (sorry, should have described that better). So outside: 1 human, 2 crabs fighting each other, another patrol coming. Inside: 1 bloodied crab.
Jun 29, 2019 12:12 pm
OOC:
No worries, I wasn't clear myself. Gonna add a move then, since there's no sentry left, just the crab. Also gonna let Vorn catch up on the action a bit as well.
Meng flung his last stone in a spinning move, hoping to remove the threat of the crab-man once and for all so that Hua could proceed.
OOC:
Edited previous post. Also, no more ammo.

Iko spares a glance at the roaches, but continues on, not wanting to waste time. "Who do you work for?"

The Mumin Ghetto

In a raspy voice the corpse speaks a name, "Fan. Fan Zexian." The head of the Fan clan, bitterest rivals of the Guong. Not the two most powerful families in Qing'lai, but powerful enough to cause ripples. If they are moving against each other, more dead bodies will turn up soon enough.

The yellowish growths continue to spread. Now the cockroach bodies begin to swell. Yellow branches burst from the talking mumin corpse as well.

Last question, Iko.

Wu Meng's last stone strikes true, and the crab-brute finally falls. Rong Hua is free! Outside the gate, one crab-man has slain the other, and the bloodied victor attacks the lone human, who frantically blows on his whistle once more. The patrol rounds the east corner: three humans and two crab-men.

What do you do?

Iko takes a second to speak to Feng. "Be prepared to start burning the growths. We do not want this to spread."
"How best can we hurt the Fan clan." He asks the corpse the final question.
Jun 29, 2019 4:40 pm
Feng nods, staring at their surroundings for a loose source of fire to use.
OOC:
I figure it'll be much more efficient then using burning hands.

The Mumin Ghetto

"Kill Fan Zexian," the corpse replies before it falls silent and the yellow mold sprouts from its mouth and eyes. It's too obvious an answer, and probably not the one you were hoping for. Contrary to what the evidence before you suggests, the Fan aren't generally known as villainous, corrupt, or cruel. Their money is made from trading in silk and spices, and Zexian sits on the city's ruling council. The Guong clan is much the same, though their money is in opium, and the head, Guong Ming, has a reputation as a ruthless businessman, and corrupt council member. But this yellow mold seems too diabolical for either of them.

The rest of the mumin are returning to the yard and looking on from a safe distance - the deaths, and the strange yellow growths have them spooked.
OOC:
Feng: it's early evening, so several of the mumin carry torches. And there's a cartload of dried dung for fuel.
Jun 29, 2019 9:04 pm
Feng approaches the mumin, silently hoping they won't flee in terror when she gets near. "You. Give me the torch." She points directly at one of the closer mumin with a torch. "The rest of you: start shoveling onto the bodies, quickly!" She gestures to the dung cart with a flick of her head, speaking in a commanding tone.
Jun 29, 2019 11:37 pm
Fearfully, the mumin do as Feng says, handing her a torch and shoveling the dung onto the rapidly growing mold. The clan chief has others bring straw. These are simple, uneducated folk, but they understand what needs to be done here to protect the rest of the herd and their community.
Jun 29, 2019 11:43 pm
Iko examines the mold from a safe distance, wondering at how quickly it spreads. Sighing heavily, his mind is brought back to the wound on his stomach that still bleeds slightly. Finding an area nearby, where he feels he won't be splattered with dung, he slips his robe down to expose his chest and checks the wound to ensure that no mold found its way onto him.

Iko
Kunchong, the chief of the Xiaohuo Cockroach Clan, approaches you. It was he that asked for your help when the cockroaches began behaving strangely yesterday. Few in the Opal City have accepted the teachings of the Sorrowsworn, even among these downtrodden folk. This clan chief is one example, driven by ambition, holding onto what meager power and possessions there are to be had among the mumin. But perhaps now, after what has happened here, he will change his ways. "We are in your debt. We don't have much, but if there is ever anything the Xiaohuo can do for you, you need only ask."

Zhang Wei
You know a someone (give him a name) an expert apothecary, who might know more about this aberrant strain of the Yellow Zombie Mold. You know where to find his shop in town.
Jun 30, 2019 1:23 am
Iko does not look up from his examination, though he recognizes the chief's voice. "Look after your people. They are likely to be frightened by what has happened." He uses some spare fabric to clean around the wound, and, after seeing that it is rather trivial, begins to pull his robe back up.
"This was caused by the Fan clan. Do with that as you wish. But perhaps you will use this as a lesson." He offers a sad smile to the man, finally looking him in the eye. "Tend to your flock. Share in their grief. This misfortune can become your blessing as you will find a new form of wealth in your people's loyalty. Just keep what I've told you close to your heart."
Walking back to his companions, he stops and says, "And I may call upon that favor at a later date," before continuing on.
Jun 30, 2019 3:39 am
Wei watches as the villagers start to burn the remnants of the roaches. Standing there in thought, an idea forms in his mind. Looking over at the others he let's them in on his idea. "I know an apothecary who may know something about this yellow mold. He knows a lot in fact, his name is Yao Fei. I know where he lives."
Jun 30, 2019 4:12 am
Feng occupies herself with burning the molded corpses, listening to the conversation in the back of her mind. In the forefront she commands the fire to flow like a snake from body to body, igniting them as it passes.
OOC:
Why is the roller so nice to me right now???

Seeing that there was still a small opportunity to go after the text, given the chaos at the front gate, Wu Meng decided against departing, looked at Rong Hua, and headed into the house in the direction he last saw Zhao Xun go. He leapt, ran and darted as quickly as he could, his movements graceful, in order to make up for lost time.
OOC:
Defying Danger maybe, because enemies are closing in, and he's not too sure which way to go, relying on his quick reflexes to cut through the compound?

Rolls

Defy Danger (acting fast) - (2d6+2)

(22) + 2 = 6

Jun 30, 2019 11:46 am
OOC:
Mark 1 XP, Wu Meng.
You dash into the house, and it's utter chaos. Panicked servants are rushing about while the chief steward attempts to maintain order. You head for the south wing where you saw Zhao Xun disappear but when you turn a corner you runs right into half a dozen heavily-armed house guards!

What do you do?
Jun 30, 2019 3:30 pm
Wu Meng

"We are here to look for a thief, who has stolen something of yours." Meng bowed to the surprised guards. "Let us assist." Surreptitiously, he cast a knowing look at Rong Hua.

Zhuang Rong Hua

Finally understanding what the monk had been trying to do all this time since they embark on this mission, Rong Hua gave him a smile and a wink, and looked for another path to avoid the guards, all the while thinking Where would Zhao Xun have gone next? The bedroom? and headed that way.
OOC:
Wu Meng will Parley, to delay, but partly sincerely as well, as he'd now like to know what what going on.
Rong Hua is still focussed on finding the text, and will use the opportunity to pursue Zhao Xun. Either Discern Realities to figure out which direction Zhao Xun went, followed by Defy Danger to escape the house guards.

Rolls

Wu Meng (Parley with +WIS) - (2d6)

(31) = 4

Wu Meng (Aid Rong Hua to escape) - (2d6)
