OOC:
I was thinking about different ways to translate Wu Meng's described actions into moves or even a single move. The abive makes sense, but could just as well be Defy Danger CHA (persuasion), or Defy Danger INT (quick thinking) but none of that improves the roll.

Mark 1 XP, Wu Meng.
Wu Meng & Rong Hua

The guards aren't convinced. They move to arrest you both. What do you do?
Jun 30, 2019 5:39 pm
Feng, Iko, and Wei

Your business in the mumin ghetto is concluded. What do you do now? Do you wish to investigate the matter further, or let it drop? If you wish to investigate, how do you go about it? Do you follow Wei's lead and seek out this apothecary? Go find Meng and Rong Hua? Or do you do something else entirely?
Jun 30, 2019 5:45 pm
"The mold is a threat. I think we should find that apothecary. If we cannot stop the threat, at least we can learn more about it."
Jun 30, 2019 9:50 pm
"Agreed, once we are satisfied here, I can take us there."
Jun 30, 2019 10:24 pm
Feng gazes at the fire wordlessly. It seems the whispers have been silenced. "Let us be on our way, I wish to burn those responsible."
Jul 1, 2019 8:34 am
OOC:
It's still probably more elegant to describe it in one move rather than two, even if it doesn't improve the roll. :)
Wu Meng

Wu Meng did not want to turn their foray into one big bloodbath; it would not be a good idea to kill all the Guong household personnel in search of the text. He looked at Rong Hua and signaled to escape instead.

Zhuang Rong Hua
Rong Hua nodded, and whispered, "Let's leave, I have a better idea." Together, stymied by the number of guards, they made their way back out of the compound through the main gate where they last saw the crabmen fighting each other.
OOC:
I'm assuming Defy Danger, escape for both of them?

Rolls

Defy Danger - (2d6+1)

(54) + 1 = 10

Jul 1, 2019 9:12 am
OOC:
Exactly how are you two escaping the guards? Based on the description it looks like basically being quicker. So with a roll like that, you will be able to slip away but obviously they will give chase and eventually catch up unless you abandon the mission and escape into the city.

Another option is to fight them but deal "stun" or non-lethal damage.

Any of these are viable options. Which do you intend?
Jul 1, 2019 9:27 am
OOC:
Ah I should have been clearer. Yes the intention was to abandon and escape completely into the city first. Then I figured Rong Hua was going to suggest picking up the trail to find Zhao Xun instead, since she thinks he already has the text, so there's no point fighting through the guards. (Characterisation-wise, Wu Meng might resort to stun, but Rong Hua certainly won't.)
Jul 1, 2019 9:51 am
OOC:
Sounds good!
Wu Meng and Rong Hua slip past the guards and flee into the city. Relying on their wits to throw off any pursuit, the two take to the rooftops and back alleys, doubling back several times, and even hitching a ride on the backs of a passing cockroach herd. At length the hunt is called off.

What now?
Jul 1, 2019 10:08 am
Zhuang Rong Hua

Satisfied that they had thrown off their pursuers, Rong Hua finally called them both to a halt. She had another trick up her sleeve, and shot a look at Wu Meng, the kind that suggested that she was up to no good. "Since Zhao Xun is likely to have beaten us to steal the text, why not just take it from him instead?" Her eyes twinkled, pleased with herself. "Come, follow me."

Wu Meng

"I trust you have a plan? It's unlikely that he'll just hand it over. You intend to steal it from him?" Wu Meng deferred to her better knowledge on such activities.
OOC:
Rong Hua will either spout lore or discern realities about Zhao Xun's likely whereabouts, his lair or hideout, or his usual hangout. (take +1 to Thief about criminal activites). They will both pick up the trail from there.

OOC:
Go ahead and Spout Lore (take +1), Rong Hua.

The Apothecary

You find Yao Fei bent over his workbench strewn with various dried medicinal herbs, a set of weighing scales, mortars and pestles, and the other tools of his trade. The apothecary himself looks more like some sort of fungoid growth on his workstool than a slug-man.

One eyestalk remains focused on you while the other scans the workbench as he shows you the principal medicinal fungi: qingzhi(青芝; "green mushroom") for the liver, chizhi (赤芝; "red mushroom") for the heart, huangzhi (黃芝; "yellow mushroom") for the spleen, baizhi (白芝; "white mushroom") for the lungs, heizhi (黑芝; "black mushroom") for the kidneys, and zizhi (紫芝; "purple mushroom") for the Essence. The shapes are as varied as their coloration, but none even closely resemble the yellow branchlike growths you saw at the cockroach pens.

"In the wild, Yellow Zombie Fungus only affects a particular kind of ant, and in a very specific way. What you describe is inconsistent with that way. In fact, the effects you witnessed were different on the man than those on the roaches. You say the roaches became aggressive, while the man did not. Very strange indeed. Perhaps different physiologies are affected differently, or perhaps there are interactions with other substances, or perhaps sorcery has been employed. Burning the growths was the logical course of action, but it also robbed us of samples that would have allowed further investigation." Yao Fei strokes where a chin would be if he were human before continuing, "If there's anyone who can help us obtain samples, that would be Sikeo of the Explorer's Guild."

How do you wish to proceed?
Jul 1, 2019 4:56 pm
OOC:
Feng, Iko, or Wei may Spout Lore about the Explorer's Guild if you think your character might know something about it.
Jul 1, 2019 6:42 pm
"Then that is our next destination. Do you have a vial of some kind we can use to keep a sample?" Feng has considered joining the Explorer's Guild in the past, it is likely safer then her current occupation, but at the present has no plans to follow through with these ideas.
OOC:
Welp.

Rolls

Lore - (2d6)

(24) = 6

Jul 1, 2019 8:05 pm
OOC:
Mark 1 XP, Feng.
You only know what is generally known, that the Explorer's Guild is comprised of groups of wilderness explorers licensed to operate in Qing'lai. They hire some of the best adventurers in the realm. The Guildmaster is an elf named Tamchim.

Yao Fei provides several vials for samples.

It's getting late at night. What do you do now?
Jul 2, 2019 4:19 am
Rong Hua doesn't know any of Zhao Xun's haunts, but she figures one of her criminal contacts in the city might have leads.
OOC:
Mark 1 XP, Rong Hua. Then, name your criminal contact and the legitimate occupation they use as a front for criminal activity.

I know I said I wouldn't pause the game, but I'd really like his input for the rest of this scene. You'll have to wait, BedzoneII. Sorry!

Rolls

Spout Lore about Zhao Xun - (2d6+2)

(13) + 2 = 6

Jul 2, 2019 4:30 am
OOC:
No prob! I'd like his input too! :) Because that was my next suggestion since the Spout Lore failed, ie Rong Hua needs to check back with her known contacts.
"You have people you can check back with, to pick up Zhao Xun's trail? I defer to your expertise in this area." Wu Meng didn't know much about the less savoury side of this city.

Wei gives Yao Fei a gracious bow and thanks him for the vial. Turning to his compatriots Wei voices his opinion. "We have two choices, we can head there now or in the morning. Given how late it is, we may not get much information tonight."
Jul 2, 2019 9:59 pm
Feng nods to the alchemist, heading after Wei. "Truthfully I wish to drink. Perhaps we will find patrons from the guild with loose lips no?"
OOC:
Either of Wei's suggestions are reasonable to me, but who isn't up for some night-investigating.
Jul 2, 2019 10:59 pm
OOC:
Agreed, a couple drinks couldn't hurt. What could go wrong?...lol
