Wu Meng

"What makes you think I was helping you?" Zhao Xun scoffs. "Item, you say? I'm an assassin, not a thief. But if I had stolen something, I wouldn't hold on to it for long. I'm...expeditious that way." The assassin strokes his chin, weighing, calculating. "Now, if I did have this item you speak of, why do you think I would give it to you instead of my employers? In fact, why do you think I would let you walk out of here alive?"

What do you do?
Jul 21, 2019 11:01 pm
Iko scrutinizes the note. "Hmmm. I will assist Wu Meng. Perhaps I can offer him wisdom on this problem."
Jul 22, 2019 5:26 am
"Since you are an assassin, and not a thief, then it stands to reason that you were there at the Guong estate to kill someone, not steal an item." Wu Meng countered in his calm, resolute tone. "But that is none of my concern, and neither should the item be yours. I only ask for directions as to where the item might be, and I shall depart."

"As for why you would let me depart alive, it is again as you say, you are an assassin. There is no benefit to you, only disadvantage, in taking my life. No one is paying you to do so, and killing me will simply draw the authorities' further suspicions about your person. Come, it is to your benefit that an honourable monk is in your debt."
Jul 22, 2019 6:02 am
"Damn, we've already got problems to deal with as is. Iko I'm going with you; I still owe a debt to Meng, and don't want to get between the two lovers."
Jul 22, 2019 9:23 am
Rong Hua then bit her lip.
Oh no...
The female sighed, not sure what to do. However, she quickly smiled and moved over, sitting down, though she made sure her weapons were in reach.
Uh... lost?
She tried to mime as she spoke.

Wei
You make your way east across the city. Tamchim's elf, Sungyeol, trails you at a distance. There's no curfew in the Opal City, so people are still about. This late, citizens are still pursuing various carnal pleasures. You pass several palanquins trailing opium smoke, headed to or from places of debauchery. Merchants peddle their wares, or make for the city gates to wait for morning trade or travel. Here and there, other sights catch your attention: two sages deep in scholarly debate in the doorway of a library; a monk burning incense in front of a shrine overgrown with thorny weeds; a cook leans out of a second-storey window and hands two bowls of noodles to a man on stilts, who crosses the street to a balcony where diners await. At length, the East Water Gate comes into view. A child leads train of mules laden with bushels of garlic past you. How do you intend to find Rong Hua in this crowd?

Iko and Feng
You separate from Wei and make for the Lower East Quarter. Tamchim's other elf, Dae-Won, follows. This is a bad neighborhood. The maze of narrow, twisting alleys smells of piss and vomit. Mumin hurry their cockroach herds through, making only a minimum effort at cleanup. Even rats go about their business hurriedly here. Talk of a brewing gang war has the denizens of these warrens even more on edge than usual. You turn a corner, and three shadows detach themselves from the front of a boarded-up building. "You must be lost," says the leader of the bandits. Glancing behind, you see Dae-Won being similarly accosted by two other figures. What do you do?

Rong Hua
The Hiptites are growing increasingly insistent in their offers of roasted dog meat, and a warm brown drink whose aroma seems to awaken the senses. One of the men uses a stick to scratch in the dirt. Directions to somewhere? There's no telling. This could be a dead end. Then, from within a linen tent on the other side of the camels, a funereal voice, "Hady! 'ana 'uhawil altarkiz!" The laborers sush each other, and you can hear the voice in the tent muttering, "Camel-brained fools! I'm trying to concentrate here."
What do you do?

Meng
"No benefit, you say? I'm certain I would be handsomely rewarded for turning in the corpse of one of the two thieving, murderous villains who somehow turned half the Guong's crab-man guards, stormed the estate, stole a valuable artefact, and slit lady Guong's throat." Zhao Xun sneers, showing unsettlingly immaculate teeth. "Then again, a monk in my debt. Now that is tempting. I may accept if you tell me where to find your friend."

What do you do?
Jul 30, 2019 5:46 pm
Iko steps forward, addressing the leader, "I believe it is you who are lost, my friend." He says with sad eyes. "But I can see you come with purpose. What is it you want?"
Jul 31, 2019 5:58 am
Iko and Feng

"We want your coin, for starters," the man purrs. Blades glint like silver flames among his fingers. "Then you and the knife-ears will walk away while my friends and I get acquainted with your little sister here."

What do you do?

Feng's eye twitches at this thug, her breathing deep and measured as she attempts to hold back the urge to punch him here and now. Instead she moves a sing step in front of Iko. "Oh really? Are you certain you can...handle me?" Her voice goes low as she poises the question, as if to intrigue him with a hint of danger. She also puts a hand behind her back, Iko can see it is clenched tightly, just waiting for his approval to cut loose.
OOC:
This may require parley (in my mind) to draw him in (so she can tear him up), distract him, or both.

Parlay - (2d6+2)

(25) + 2 = 9

OOC:
I agree, Parley makes sense here because you have leverage on him. Strictly speaking, you're supposed to ask something of him but as I understand it, what you are "asking" is for him to come closer and let his guard down. With a 9, he will do what you want, but "need some concrete assurance of your promise, right now."
Feng

"Hohoho!" the thug leers. His breath stinks of wine, and he hasn't bathed in a long time. "You're feisty. I like that. Maybe you and I'll go over there first while my boys and your friends have a chat?" The man gestures for you to willingly go with him into a dark alley.

What do you do?

"Same reason why my friends and I aren't preferring to turn cover the corpse of the thief and murderer that we tracked down from the Guong estate for a handsome reward." Wu Meng countered Zhao Xun's threat with an equivalent one of his own. "Which is why I've come to speak with you, rather than hunt you or fight you."

"Why would you need to know where my lady friend is? It is not as if you can't track her yourself should you need to. Or are you asking because you are afraid she's hiding in the shadows behind us, waiting to make her move? If it's some other information you seek, then we have a deal, mine in exchange for yours."

Wei, stops and thinks for a moment. Looking around, he searches for places where people are eating/drinking, gambling or just ralking. Easier to lose yourself in a crowd.

Iko sighs morosely, seeing Feng's clenched fist. "Very well, little sister. Do what you must." He tells her. These men were fiends, and he would have little luck getting through to them in their inebriated state. No matter, he knew where there souls would go, and Dai'Shan would be sure to get them to see the error of their ways.

This entire courtyard is filled with people eating, drinking, and talking. Mixed in with the merchants and their hired porters, clerks, animal wranglers, and guards are a variety of people who, for one reason or another, wish to make the journey east.
OOC:
Roll Discern Realities. Go ahead and take +1 here, given your relationship with Rong Hua.
Jul 31, 2019 3:49 pm
Wei slowly scans the crowd, intent on finding Rong Hua.
OOC:
Since a 7 allows me to ask one question, I'll go with this one. What here is useful or valuable to me? (Meaning Rong Hua.)

Wu Meng

"Words are weapons, and so is information," Zhao Xun murmurs. "In you, it seems I've found a worthy opponent. I'll tell you who hired me if you tell me who hired you. A fair trade, don't you think?"
Zhang Wei

You recall Wu Meng's message said this has to do with a kidnapped girl bound for caravan to Hiptos. You close your eyes and listen for the tongue of the Hiptites.
OOC:
We're going to put you on pause for a little bit, as I want Rong Hua to have a chance to make some progress before your arrival.
Jul 31, 2019 5:39 pm
"Now now brother, I am sure these men are of an...agreeable sort. Isn't that right?" Feng licks her lips and daintly grabs the thug's hand, weakly tugging at it in an overly girlish manner to pull him down the alley.
Jul 31, 2019 7:10 pm
"Seeya later, boys!" the lead thug chortles as he lets Feng pull him into the shadows.

What do you do, Iko?

Do thy worst, Feng!
