"Agreed. And sealed with this. My word is my bond." Wu Meng held up his cup. The man who hired us is...
OOC:
Checking in, do I have the option to propose the narrative? We started simply with an unspecified employer.

OOC:
Rereading the first post, I realize never said it was the Archive even though that was my intention. But yeah, go for it, and let's see where it takes us!

"The man who hired us represents the Quian." Wu Meng leveled his gaze directly at Zhao Xun. "Who has the scroll now?"
Aug 1, 2019 12:18 pm
Wu Meng

The Black Lotus wags a slender finger at you. "The deal was to reveal who hired us. Nothing more. Why would the Quian be interested in making trouble for the Guong, hmm? A man from the Changgok contracted me. Now, that is a sticky web! It means that unless this person was acting alone, either the Changgok are secretly biting the hand that feeds them, or someone in the Guong clan itself is up to something big. Curiously, the Fan do not seem to be involved."

The assassin leans back in his seat. "Well now, that is that transaction concluded. If you also wish to purchase the antidote to the poisoned tea you just drank, make me another offer."
Aug 1, 2019 12:45 pm
"To feed your speculation, yes, perhaps the Changgok are intending to betray the Guong. Or perhaps the Guong clan itself is divided. It is not the Fan who hired us, despite their enmity with the Guong. Sometimes one has to look within, not without, to find one's enemies. In either case, that is business that does not concern me.

As for this tea, did you forget that it was I who poured the cups?"
Wu Meng revealed his own cup behind his two hands which had shielded it all along, as if in courtesy and respect, but was hiding the fact that it was empty. "Your intention was evident when you neither drank what I had served, nor raised your cup to seal the deal."

"Still, I am a monk of non-vengeful ways, and intend you no harm even though you have not shown me the same courtesy. I shall take my leave now." Meng stood up to go.
OOC:
I saw the poisoned tea coming a mile away!

The priest shakes his head, turning his attention back to the thugs. He crosses his arms and tells them, almost apologetically, "I'm afraid I have little to offer. If you like, I can offer advice, so that this venture is not fruitless for you."
Aug 1, 2019 1:23 pm
Wu Meng

"Well played," Zhao Xun chuckles. "I was right about you. A worthy adversary. I daresay we shall see each other again." He makes no move to stop you from leaving. "Will you tell me your name?"
Aug 1, 2019 1:35 pm
The monk bowed deeply. "I am Wu Meng. And still in your debt. Who knows, maybe one day an assassin may have need for a monk's services." With that he exited, and considered how he could find his way to Rong Hua, in case she needed his assistance.

Iko

"Yes, give us your advice, priest, before I cut your tongue and send you to your god," one of the thugs hisses, "because that's where you're headed tonight if you've no coin for us."

The man approaches, slowly brandishing a cruel knife.

What do you do?

Are you headed for the East Water Gate then, Meng? It's only a few blocks away. Or are you returning to the Crippled Crane, or Feng's shop? Or somewhere else?
Aug 1, 2019 1:58 pm
OOC:
Any chance Meng's path to the East Water Gate will cross with Iko and Feng, since they are in the same Lower East Quarter now? Or shall we assume it does? It'll begin to bring the party back together.
Aug 1, 2019 1:59 pm
"Do not let appearances deceive you," He says with the barest hint of a smile, before lunging at the thung's knife in an attempt to grab it, making no attempt to avoid the harsh blade.
OOC:
I am rolling Defy Danger and using +Con since he plans to endure whatever pain comes his way to get the knife from him.

Rolls

Defy Danger - (2d6+1)

(53) + 1 = 9

Aug 1, 2019 2:31 pm
OOC:
Exactly my thought, Meng. But didn't want to just railroad you into it. You'll run into the alley fight soon, but not just yet.
Battle Music!

The thug swears as Iko does the unexpected. The knife clatters to the ground, and both bandit and priest are left empty-handed, though Iko now has a superficial cut across his unprotected palm. (Take 1 damage, Iko)

The three other thugs lurch into action, and so does Dae-Won. While you tussle with the first fellow, the one you haven't disarmed comes at you with a slender knife.

What do you do, Iko?

OOC:
Cool! Let's have the Iko and Feng play out a little, and then Meng enters. We can hold Meng's plot advance for a while.

Now that Feng is alone with this brute, she gently runs a hand down his neck. She moves her head in close against his ear, whispering softly: "So rough, so rugged, so dead..." Suddenly, her hands begin to feel hot to the touch, somewhere a bone snaps on her body, and a wild look resides in her eyes. She grips him tight and tries to strangle him here and now.
OOC:
Damn, Burning hand Traits: fiery, touch, dangerous. Uses: 2/3

Wow these rolls are something else.

Feng

Your body grows feverishly hot, but the flames do not come! You try to strangle this lecher, but the man overpowers you, and slams his fist painfully into your ribs! He pushes you roughly against a wall, and covers your mouth with a meaty hand. "I love it when they fight!" he drools in your ear.

What do you do?
OOC:
Mark 2 XP, and 3 damage, Feng.

Rolls

Damage vs. Feng - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Rong Hua’s eyes widen as she stand up, shaking her head to the hiptites, smiling apologetically, before she started to walk towards the tent.
Excuse me, is there anyone there? I need some help!
The female called out in a helpless voice.
Aug 2, 2019 5:42 am
"I love to fight!" Feng hisses through her teeth. She struggles against him, thinking rapidly. Come out you demon, kill this bitch already! Her short speech must of worked, as she suddenly feels her limbs start to move of their own accord, twisting at a bone-breaking angle to thrust it at the man's throat, which she squeezes tightly as the flames finally start to lick her limbs.
OOC:
Using the high roll to add hand and remove dangerous. Speaking of the hand trait how does that work as opposed to me not picking it? I guess normally it's like I'm making a literal weapon, which has different aspects mechanically?
Burning hand Traits: fiery, touch.
Hand Uses: 2/3

Rong Hua

An imposing figure storms out of the tent. "I thought I told you fools to shut-- well, hello... " Atekhramun, for this must be he, licks his lips as he looks you over. "Have these mongrels been bothering you? Come into my humble tent and tell me how I can help you."

What do you do?
Feng

A heartbeat before he dies, the thug leader screams in terror as you change, and the ghost inside you makes an appearance. Your hand erupts in flames and literally takes the thug leader's head off. The man's body collapses at your feet, and the flaming, severed head rolls out into the main street for his lackeys to see.

What do you do?
Iko

The second thug's weapon swishes overhead as you deftly dive for the first one's knife. You come out of the roll, weapon in hand. Down the alley, Dae-Won appears to have been wounded, but is fending off his assailants with a chilseonggeom ("seven star sword"), a weapon of elven make.

The two that are on you hesitate. Goggling at their leader's burning head, the unarmed one looks ready to run, but the one with a knife has a crazy look in his eyes, and keeps coming.

What do you do, Iko?
Meng

You hear a scream just up a head, and the unmistakable sound of blades clashing. You come upon two thugs fighting a wounded elf. Further on another person is fighting two more assailants. Is that Iko? You're not sure. A lump of something's burning on the ground near them.

What do you do?
