2.0 - Lure of the Lost

In due course, you arrive in the Phemis System -- about 10 minutes outside the orbit of Phemis itself thanks to some reasonable star charts and an unhurried astrogation calculation. Despite the rumored Imperial presence -- everything is quiet and you pass into orbit of the planet without encountering any space-based security or obvious surveillance.

Making the move into the atmosphere of the planet -- towards coordinates provided by a contact of Hethan's -- you spy the canyon that she indicated would be there. It's quite large and visible without the aid of sensors, a narrow scar snaking across the arid surface of the planet. However, before you can begin planning your approach, the sensors chime a warning -- several probe droids seem to be hovering along the canyon's length. They are easy to detect because they are all running constant, active sensor sweeps.

Trying to get past the droids may take some fancy flying -- or you can settle for a landing spot away from the canyon. Thoughts?

OOC:
Im assuming for posting sake we've assembled in or near the cockpit, or have a line to talk to each other and can see from our respective vantage points.
Looks like we are in for a bit of a trek. What's the climate look like on this planet?, Dagger questions.

His eyes are aglow with joy, partially at the thought of exploring a new world, partially because of the prospects of owning a light saber, and mostly because it means they will be off this ship for a bit.

Unless you think you could thread the needle and avoid those droids?, Dagger adds after a beat.

Kaveri looks at the terrain and considers, "No," she says, "we're better off not trying to take evasive action. I'm a serviceable pilot, but that's it." Instead she gently steers the Kirtan Strider several kilometers away from the canyon that Hethan's data pointed to. It looks like you'll have to walk.

As you step out of the ship, you take in the harsh and rugged landscape before you. Phemis seems to be made up entirely of spikes, cliffs and rocky outcroppings, surrounded by drifts of sand and dust. The dry heat -- a notable departure from the cooler Spintir late winter you just left -- promises an unpleasant hike before you even reach the canyon and its Imperial patrols. You set out for your destination, but the terrain makes for slow going.
OOC:
Would a character please make an Easy (P) survival check with two Setback (BB) dice? For your collective information, Kaveri has the best roll, Heyop and Urik probably the next (due to Survival 1) then Dagger (high cunning) and Csillag.

Dagger steps off the ship and actual welcomes the hot environment. He makes a few offhand remarks about how nice the weather is here as they travel. Much to the annoyance of his new friends.
OOC:
Twi'leks have Desert Dweller, so I get to remove one of the setbacks imposed due to hot environments.

Survival (Cunning)

4 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 3 Success

Dagger noses around a bit -- this place doesn't seem all that different from Ryloth, really. He seems to get his bearing quickly and points the group to a trail leading to the site you've been directed to. The going is arduous and hot.
OOC:
All characters -- please roll an easy Resilience (P) check with one SB (B) for the heat.
Feb 6, 2016 10:45 am
Kaveri struggles through the heat as she heads for the trail.

Heyop squints a bit wondering if he should wrap his head due to the heat as they begin their trek.

Rolls

Resilience Check

4 Advantage, 1 Threat

Total: 3 Advantage

Dagger trots along through the desert environment trying to lead the way, the heat doesn't seem to phase him at all.
OOC:
Desert Dweller race trait removes the setback dice. :)

Trudging along the trail Dagger and Kaveri don't enjoy the heat but manage well enough. The other three, however, while they manage to keep up suffer in the heat -- stumbling occasionally and feeling flushed and feverish. Heyop notices a particularly annoying headache, while Urik's heart races a little and Csillag feels vaguely nauseous.

At the end of your trudge -- it's about 10km and it takes you a couple hours through the heat and the crud -- you reach the canyon. Before you the descent is tricky. It's steep and covered in rock and scree. You think you can shimmy your way down without too much difficulty.
OOC:
If you choose to just try and get into the canyon, can I have an Average (PP) Athletics check from those that do? also up for ideas on other ways to get down.

Heyop, Urik and Csillag each suffer a reduction of your strain threshold by 2 for "awhile". The rules say "the session" -- so I'll figure out where a session break is and allow the recovery then.
Feb 8, 2016 12:27 pm
Heyop stewed in the heat, the dry air was something he wasn't use to adding into the discomfort of the unrelenting sun. Heyop looks around to see if there's anything to making traversing down by rope easier. If not he'll go to the edge and look for the best foot holes for an ascent. If neither option yields anything useful he'll shimmy down over the side.
OOC:
I figure we'd bring climbing gear but if not I'll just go with the a perception roll to look for a safe path down and then athletics check.
Edit: I'll say for the perception I figure the best path but kick up a bit of dirt in the process. With the triumph my hand and foot holds are pretty apparent so an advantage to the rest of the people coming down? 2 Threat I'll take as strain from choking down fine powdered dessert dirt.

Checking things out (Perception Check)

2 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 1 Threat

Rolls

Athletics (Brawn) with hand hold boost.

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 4 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 3 Threat

Urik, though tired from the cross country trek, looks at the cliff without apprehension. Here is something he understands...and the Force helps him understand it. Or it has in the past. This time, the Force seems to be unavailable to Urik. But his natural athletic ability pulls him through handily.
OOC:
Rolling a force die along with my Athletics check to attempt to use my Basic Enhance ability.

Csillag, already drained from the hike, looks over the canyon wall as the others make their way down. "Doesn't look that bad, I suppose.." she sighs as she eventually works up the courage to follow in her companions' footsteps.

Rolls

Trying not to tumble down a canyon wall....

4 Advantage, 1 Threat

Total: 3 Advantage

Feb 10, 2016 3:22 am
As the second person to climb down Dagger immediately draws his blaster and scouts around the immediate area at the bottom of the canyon, look for enemies or droids that may have noticed them.

Heyop, Dagger calls, keep your eyes peeled, who knows where those droids are patrolling. He turns to make sure Heyop was listening and notices his fatigued look. Are you doing okay?

OOC:
If we have a minute I wanted to try and recover if we have time or do a quick survival check to jury rig some head gear, this dry air! Need portable humidifier droid!

The first four of you find your way down, easily enough. Heyop's lead providing some helpful pointers. Heyop arrives at the bottom slightly winded -- the result of being the trailblazer (and suffers 1 strain). Dagger makes it down -- despite being not the most athletic Twi'lek in the galaxy -- but finds the descent hard going, all the same (and suffers 3 strain). Urik and Kaveri actually make the climb down look easy, leaving Csillag to work her way down.

On her way down, Csillag tries to carefully tread where her colleagues have lead, but she loses her grip and comes sliding down the cliff face several meters. As she falls, she attempts to recover...
OOC:
Csillag -- can I get an average (PP) Athetlics or Coordination check (your choice)? Please add 2 boost (B) dice for your 3 advantage.
