War of the Lost Kingdom

Zifu leaned back slightly at Ian's brief approach. "Well I'm sure the regency of Morveth will not look kindly upon such a blatant disrespect. As well, my family would be very inconvenienced."

"That image in the bed was an illusion... It's a habit of mine. But I can't explain if you found bones in my bed."

Zifu nodded. "Perhaps someone who was afflicted mistook our room for their own."

She looked at the door handle and the scratching from beyond. "We can try the other door and hope it does not lead to a closet. Or, we can take our chances with the skeletons."

Zifu touched her stomach, wondering if that gnawing feeling inside of her was a growing dread, or just four days without food.

Doc's eyes are on the meager fortification
"I vote other door. Unless blue hair thinks we can take them, any idea how many are behind that barricade?"

She shook her head. "There are a lot of them in this fort. They like to wander."

Zifu looked at the keyring taken from the stockade, and the one key left attached. She assumed it only worked for the 10 cells below, but now she considered whether it might further secure the armory door, or unlock the other portal.

She decided to try.

"Legate's office would be good but I feel like we might faint from hunger. Maybe thirst." Rubbing his face he starts to mutter to himself like a crazy person. Or an angry person.

"I doubt they're getting through in the immediate future." Doc hoped. He rummaged through his pack and brought out what little food he had.

"If anyone else has some, take it. If not I have 10 rations to split among us. Let's eat fast."

Gratefully, Ian takes some of the food and begins eating. "Holy balls, thank you." His manners are lacking but it's hard to say whether that's from his normal behavior or the fact that he hasn't eaten for days.

Greta eats rations and drinks water from her waterskin.

Then she pushes Zifu aside as she attempts to kick the second door open.

Zifu gave Doc a grateful nod for the offered food. She broke off a small corner to give to her owl, sharing the piece with a nibble. As the door is opened, she replenished the light on her small lamp with a brief weave, and mentally asked Hu to alight upon the lip of the embrasure to have a look outside.

Greta re-lights her torch and checks out the staircase

Greta goes down the stairs and examines the room.

"Looks like yer the fastest lock picker of us all," Ian intones wryly as he takes point with Greta, "Doc, Finn, take up'the rear. Fragile spellcasters in'the middle." He takes a moment to examine their surroundings before heading down the stairs slowly.

I place my gladiuses in their sheathes and load my hand crossbow.
