"Dust...devils? We can hit them right, I'm awfully good at that." Ruby whips out her staff, holding it at the ready as she tosses it between her arms for a second.

You've all gathered in the main floor common room. Several dozen armed men are prepared for some assault. Windows are being nailed shut from the inside, and the servants head into the cellar. They all seem nervous, even the mercenaries, though their nerves are the grim manner of experienced soldiers.

"Dust Devils," explains the Open Fist commander, named Dolbert, "ride the winds of the storm. During the tempest, they'll wreak chaos and havoc in the city. Our job is to protect this area, two blocks on all sides of this inn. That's sixteen square blocks, if you know your sums. We'll patrol in squads of six. We don't have time to test you proper, but to judge your ability, do you think you could hold your own against a squad of my men?"

"Important question. Do you think your buildings will light on fire if struck by lightning?" Hehsh eyes the building critically. What is the wood to stone ratio?

we have faced goblins and worse. We have some magic, good weapons and armour. I think we could hold our own. Do we patrol or does each squad pick a corner and be ready?

Dolbert replies to Hehsh, "Some will." To Garth, he says, "Good enough. Go out this door, turn right, go down one block, then go left another block. Sort out any trouble you see, which won't be much." He offers his hand. "Thank you."

Great another trouble, why couldn't this be an easy travel??
Hasan readies his gear. Locks a bolt into position.
"Alright, Lets go then."
OOC:
I mean would be jerks and just mount up and take off :DDD

Mavis cinches her armour, stretches, and unsheathes the dagger from her right forearm.
She nods at Hassan.
Ahm ready.

Garth tightens his armour and gets his crossbow ready.

I suggest putting a cloth over your nose and mouth. My squad hit a sandstorm two years ago, breathing can be tough.
Dec 13, 2019 1:34 am
Ruby cracks her knuckles, then gives a thumbs up. "Ready!"
Dec 13, 2019 1:43 am
"How many souls will you eat today?"

Hehsh's comment draws a few looks and oddly, more confidence in your abilities.

You walk outside into the peaceful mourning air. The sunshine is bright, the air still. But to the east, you see a gigantic wall of brown growing higher in the sky. You see that it is nearly upon the city.

Rushing to your assigned intersection, you barely make it when the storm his the city. First a few swirls and zephyrs stir the dust, then you're rocked by a blast of wind as the wall hits. Instantly, the scream of sand tears at your skin, baffles your hearing and obscures your sight.

In the madness, grasping at each other so as to not lose your companions in the chaos, you hear a chuckle. Deep, throaty, evil.

Perception checks please, and roll for Initiative as well.

The howling wind covers most sounds but Mavis and Hasan hear a scream. Ruby spies something
Qralloq sent a note to somebox

Ruby watches the scene for only a few seconds before she draws her staff skyward, on the defensive for any more body-snatchers. "Fliers! Eyes up and don't get grabbed!"
Dec 13, 2019 8:32 pm
Can Hesh cast lightning bolt without causing collateral damage?
