Sounds like there's 3 votes for Gym and 3 for Storefront. So if somebox is good with Storefront or Remnant is good with Gym, we may have a winner?

I'll note that Remnant's Archetype (Student) has a special ability that is tied to his ranks in Knowledge (Lore), but his Career does not offer that skill as a Career Skill. The gym would be more useful to him from a game-mechanics perspective, since it offers Lore as a Career Skill to all of you. (Incidentally, Lore in this case means more than esoteric knowledge; it also covers recognizing another fighter's fighting style and so on, allowing you to size-up an opponent.)

One thing I wanted to make sure everyone realizes is that Brawl (Striking) keys off Agility rather than Brawn. However, the damage you do is still based on your Brawn attribute.
Likewise, I wanted to introduce another talent in case anyone wants to lean into a Cunning-focused build:
Precision
Activation: Active (Incidental)
Ranked: Yes
When you first take this talent, pick one skill from among Brawl (Grappling), Brawl (Striking), or Ranged. When you make a check with this skill, your character may use Cunning instead of Brawn or Agility. For each additional rank of Precision, you may choose another one of these three skills to use with Cunning.

I'm gonna be real, I can re flavor it however no problem. Savagebob's point about Remnant's ability is also true of mine, expect it feeds off of Discipline, which is the primary reason I wanted dojo (well, and being a martial artist).
Also didn't realize striking damage was based off of brawn, thanks for the clarification.

Honestly everything was randomly rolled for my character including the HQ vote. I'm not too worried about meta being optimized for me since to start with Student/Cop isn't really OP but I'll figure out where gaps are and work on that. That said if we need to pick something for someone's build backstory I guess we go that route if it makes sense.

How are folks doing on character creation? I've reached out to most of you with feedback, so hopefully we can pin down final starting builds soon. If all goes well, I'd like to start up the actual gameplay sometime next week.

I submitted and added in the bit about what you've suggested, we're still up in the air I think on HQ but as long as there's free WiFi I don't think Max will mind.

That works for me. And I've still got some work to do on my character, but should be able to finish up this weekend without a problem.

Why don't we just call it a gym, then. The easy assumption is that your characters all work out or train there (imagine that they have a large ring for boxing and floor space for Asian martial arts). But if it fits your concept, feel free to be the janitor or promoter or whatever.
In the meantime, we'll create the gym and its owner together. I'm going to pose a series of questions to each of you to help establish this shared resource/story hook.
So, KermitThePog, you start: What might the name of this gym be?

Remnant: The owner of the gym has done jail time. What for? And were they wrongfully accused?

Eskaton: What neighborhood is the gym located in (from the Rumble City map in the [IC] Player Resources Thread)? This decision will have some bearing on the socioeconomic status of the gym, although it's likely not super fancy regardless of where you set it.

What might the name of this gym be?The nightclub was trashed in a police/gang raid and shut down, so Lance got it for a steal. Since the sign was undamaged and One-Two still works for either reps or punches, he kept the name.
He fixed it up before opening the gym, but it's still got shades of both its former glory and its destruction.

By the way, anyone buying a Cutman's Kit? I'm not especially built for Medicine checks, but figure one would be useful, so I can buy one if not.

Loving how this is developing so far!
Somebox's character has a corner kit, which is basically a water bottle and a portable stool for pep talks. A cutman's kit might be handy, but it only lets you heal critical injuries, and not wounds.
With that in mind, remember that you can also buy gear from the Genesys core rulebook Modern section (see Drainsmith's Equipment Encyclopedia, linked in the OOC resource thread, if you don't have it). That's where you'll find basic stuff like painkillers, a more robust medical kit, and so on.
* First-Aid Kit lets you heal wounds or criticals, and only costs $100.
* Portable medkit is $200 and adds automatic 1 Advantage to the roll.
* Painkillers cost $25 each and heal 5 wounds on first use (then 4 on second, 3 on third, etc. until you get a night's rest or 24 hours pass).
Actually, I'm not sure I understand the benefits of the cutman's kit versus he basic first-aid kit. It costs $50 more, but it is double the encumbrance (2 vs. 1), and it only lets you heal critical injuries? That's not balanced. Why don't we say that the Cutman's Kit will act as a basic First-Aid Kit for all intents and purposes, except that it reduces the difficulty once to heal critical injuries under 95? That way, it justifies the extra cost and encumbrance.

Multiple counts of assault. No but someone pulled strings he figure to get him off the streets for a few years.
Lance found out one of the younger people coming to their gym was bullied, fearful of using what they knew and inexperienced lead to being beaten and a need for emergency care. Finding out the person as well as others from the same gym had a similar habit of showing off he went to talk to the other gym leader for his gymmate. Weapons came out and sudden violent members of the gym fell silent ina rumble. The police eventually showed up to the aftermath of the destruction and could not get a straight story of several weapons on the ground, a wrecked gym, and multiple people unconscious or crippled around Lance who they found sitting on a stool bloodied but grinning. He was later charged with multiple accounts of assault and did time because of it.
