"If we need more intel I'll probably look to see who owns the building and any police reports in the area around Bagertown possibly related. Maybe I can swing by the motor pool and see what damaged vehicles or things in impound can be used for a stack out. We can also maybe ask Miss Loretta on what she knows about story leads in Bagertown..." Max states stretching before rubbing his eyes.
Jan 28, 2020 2:22 pm
OOC:
I have no problem with one of you owning a car, so don't think of transportation as an obstacle. I mentioned the outskirts-iness of the place more as a context clue than as a RP challenge.

Also, remember that Lance warned you not to trust the cops. Up to you how serious you take his warning, especially since Max is on the force.
Jan 28, 2020 2:51 pm
Hank shuffles through the keyring, shaking his head. "Not that I see. Plus, I figure if he skipped town, he probably took his ride with him. I haven't driven it in years, but my brother left his Caddie when he, uh... left town. We could see if she's still up to a trip to the drive-in.

He looks over at Max and pauses, clearly thinking through his words carefully. "Max, you got any officers you know you can trust? After Lance's warning, I'd probably be quiet with how I investigate. We don't know who these masked goons are in with. With masks covering their faces, they could be anybody.
OOC:
If someone else wants to be the driver in the group, we could easily say the Caddie doesn't start (Mildred is her name). Just wanted to give us an option.
Jan 28, 2020 3:17 pm
"I guess I'll have to see and play it by ear, cops usually don't have a different badge on if they're corrupt. Maybe I'll look into IA to see if anyone put in a complaint about me."
Jan 28, 2020 3:32 pm
OOC:
This is a situation where the Favor system from Shadow of the Beanstalk might come in handy! Since we're not using that, feel free to create a friend on the force whom Max trusts and call him or her up. I'll accept a Story Point flip to ensure this person, at least, is not corrupt.

Alternatively, let me know if y'all plan to call up the reporter. You could also do both.
Jan 28, 2020 5:26 pm
"I know a guy in the motor pool, knows all the gossip and looks out for me since I'm pretty green he's stated." Max states pulling out his phone and texts Cleetus.

Hello Mr Bridgewater, when you're free can you give me a call back. Thanks sir have a good day. Max texts and waits to fill in the older cop taking it easy in the Motorpool till retirement.

While he waits he'll text Loretta to see if she's free as well and to see if she's okay after the incident at the gym.
Jan 28, 2020 6:53 pm
Cleetus Bridgewater doesn't reply immediately. But Loretta texts back within a few moments: "Editing big piece on the attack. OK, just tired. What's up?"
Jan 28, 2020 7:27 pm
Do you have or hear any stories recently about Bagertown or about attacks like this happening in other places. Ma'am please find time to get rest, you can't report if you don't recoup. Are any of our faces in the piece?
Jan 28, 2020 8:04 pm
Three dots bounce across the bottom of Max's phone for a moment, indicating the reporter is composing a reply. It finally arrives:

"All who fought off attack already featured on news. Heroes! New piece about larger kidnapping problem. Can you provide official comment?"

The text reminds you of the plethora of cameras that were present at the rumble. Seems you four are at least known as having helped thwart the attack. Then this message:

"Always lots of activity in B'town. Most kidnappings happen there. Nothing else unusual. You got something brewing? I can send a crew."
Jan 28, 2020 8:47 pm
"Had my head in books for exams before graduation from the academy so I guess I didn't look into recent news enough. I'll look into stories on kidnapping since that's literally news to me. Official comment will have to come from the RPD PR Liason Ma'am you know that. =) Friend of a friend can't find their sibling situation don't know if they're just leading a rebellious life and haven't come home or something serious since you're mentioning kidnapping I kinda think I should check just in case. Thanks Ms. Loretta if I find anything out and it's dangerous you'll be the second person I call."

"No word from Sgt Bridgewater... Ms Loretta mentioned a larger kidnapping problem story she's working, a lot of kidnapping out of Badger... So Lance getting kidnapped might be related. So if we go we might also want to get some masks or disguises." Max lets the others know with a frown.

"Got it. Be safe!" Loretta signs off.
OOC:
Yeah, just a refresher that a rash of kidnappings have gripped the city lately. Mostly folks from Bangertown; if Lance was a target, that would signify a shift in approach for whomever's involved, since he's in the business district. If the mayor was the target, that would be even bigger still.

A few minutes later, Max's phone rings. Picking it up, he hears Cleetus Bridgewater's sandpaper voice. "Max? That you, boy? Saw you on the news, you big damn hero! What can I do for you?"
Jan 29, 2020 1:51 pm
"Hey Sir, uni's on the scene gave the Mayor a lot of guff about the situation... You know the RPD better than me sir so me sticking my nose in who actually got arrested or other things are going to be looked at really closely I figured. If you can find out anything about who was arrested or anything on the blotter related to Badgertown the last few days or reports of missing people from Badgertown I'd really appreciate it. I don't think this was a drunken prank gone wrong and if they're going to do this in front of the Mayor somethings going on if they're that bold and just don't care." Max states running a hand through his hair. A melancholy smile on his face with talk of being a hero.
Jan 29, 2020 2:28 pm
"Interesting. Well, you know as well as I do that reports of kidnappings come in every day from folks in poor neighborhoods." You take that as a nicer way to say "Bangertown"—Cleetus isn't one for street slang. "I've made noise that we need to increase patrols out there, but you see what that got me—a sunsetted career with the automobiles." He sighs over the line. "But I'll keep my ears open and pull a few strings. Let me get back to you later."
OOC:
Any further questions for him? Maybe directly asking about the drive-in-theater? If not, I have an idea for how we can use him as the story progresses.
Jan 29, 2020 2:46 pm
"You know anything about the drive-in-theater..." looking over the map for the name, "Also what are the chances of getting something off the impound lot to use as cover if I go patrol and investigate in the area?"
Jan 29, 2020 10:03 pm
Bridgewater chuckles. "You talking about that old Hi-Way Drive-in? Used to take the misses there when were were courtin', but it hasn't been in operation for years. I think some gang squats there now. The Pantones I think they're called?" You hear him whistle. "If that's where you're headed, I can get you wheels, but it'll have to be through official channels. I'm in the office if you need to swing by with the paperwork."
OOC:
So, you have the Caddy. Impound might get you something better, but you'll be on the record with the department.
Jan 29, 2020 10:19 pm
"I'll think it over, if I come by and go through the proper channel can you forget to finish filing the paperwork for two hours just in case someone tips off from the force." Max asks weighing options, "Votes for something from impound since we're going into Pantone territory?"
Jan 30, 2020 1:25 am
Marv watches Max work with a bit of astonishment and suppressed jealousy I coulda been a great cop. He thinks to himself, if it wasn't for this stupid temper. He clenches his fists and fights the feeling down as Max wraps up his conversation.

"I say we go with Hank's brother's ride. Can't go wrong with good old American engineering. I'd bet it'll get us out there and keep tickin no matter what comes to pass. Doesn't hurt not to have the paper trail. Maybe we swing by that Haloween emporium on the way, see if we can't shake some familiar faces out of the cashier, and get something so nobody recognizes Brawl City's latest heroes.'" He throws air quotes around the last word.
Jan 30, 2020 2:34 am
"Agreed. If whoever's been nabbing folks out in Bangertown has something to do with Lance's dirty cop at Wholesome Prison... I'd rather keep it out of official paperwork until we know who we're dealing with. Cripes, this city... I go back and forth loving and hating it."

Hank shakes his head, twisting an old class ring on his left hand. Then he returns to the present. "And the masks ain't a bad idea, Max. I don't know that they'll fool anybody, but it sure can't hurt."
Jan 30, 2020 1:58 pm
"Disregard Sir, we'll try other options, this is related to a prisoner that was a former cop out of Owsley Penitentiary so they might still have some brothers in blue on the force that didn't get caught unfortunately. Thanks for the assistance anyway Sir. Stay safe." Max concludes before hanging up.
