[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 1)

OOC:
Kermit, are you trying to attack the thugs coming down the rope? You're still in the alley, so getting over there is going to take two turns: one turn to get through the door and move toward the mat, a second turn to get under them and attack. At any rate, they're still at ceiling level and unreachable until next round. Do you want to use the chain attack on the guys in the alleyway?
Dec 28, 2019 12:32 am
OOC:
Yep, I was going after the guys in the alleyway. I'd disengaged with them, so had to step back out into the alleyway to attack them.
Dec 28, 2019 3:18 am
OOC:
Ah, gotcha! Your Triumph suggestion threw me. The reason is that a Triumph from a skill check should ideally be related to the situation in which the skill was used. Since those other guys are inside the building, having their rope fray doesn't seem to relate to the chain attack. If your goal is to deprive them of some mobility, maybe the chain catches on the fire escape, allowing you to pull it down next turn? Or do you have another idea for how to spend the Triumph that relates to events in the alley?
Dec 28, 2019 12:24 pm
OOC:
Ah, I see. Since they're already coming down through the skylight, I don't know that it's worth devoting a turn to blocking the fire escape at this point. Maybe I'll just use the triumph to instead upgrade my next attack. So Marv will have a boost against these goons, and I'll be upgraded, with the explanation that the swinging chain is distracting them without doing any actual damage.
Dec 28, 2019 3:29 pm
OOC:
Upgrade it is. Max is up!

"Mr. Murkowski if your guarding I'm going to start swinging." Max states moving to the rope end to latch on and start twirling the rope if people slide down.
OOC:
Maybe athletics check of some sort?
Dec 29, 2019 4:52 pm
OOC:
Sounds about right. One maneuver to engage with the rope, and then Athletics to make the rope harder to descend. Let's say it's opposed by their Athletics, so Hard (PPP). If you succeed, they take a tumble (how far will depend on level of success). If you fail, they can descend without needing to roll for it.

OOC:
I'd like to use a story point. If this works I'll totally lookalike a competent police offer! Xd

Rolls

Hard ath check

4 Success, 1 Advantage, 3 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Success

OOC:
Great! I'm thinking that's enough to send one of the three minions tumbling, which will happen their next turn.
Max grabs the rope and begins shaking it vigorously. The masked invaders on the roof pause for a moment, but then screams attract everyone's attentions toward the front door to the gym. The sounds are accompanied by a noise that sounds like crackling electricity and bodies falling to the ground in convulsions. There is also an ominous laugh.
OOC:
More to come...
Jan 1, 2020 6:23 pm
The mayor's assistant tries to move her away from the skylight. "Madam Mayor, we have to get you to safety..."
Jan 1, 2020 6:23 pm
"Nonsense, Claude. If these thugs think they can scare me, they have a lot to learn." She stands firm, resolute, about three feet from the end of the rope that Max is shaking.
Jan 1, 2020 6:25 pm
The reporter, Lucretia Loretta, trains a camera toward the skylight. "This is good stuff," she says, shining a bright light toward the thugs trying to come down there.
OOC:
Let's say the light gives them a setback on their next check to represent distraction.
OOC:
We're back around to a PC!
Jan 2, 2020 8:59 pm
Can I get someone to toss down some sparring mats! This might get ugly real quick! Max barks out while trying to deter droppers.
OOC:
Unsure about the roll if needed but if this is over 20bfeet down is if they and head first in most cases.

OOC:
Same roll as last time (PPP), but you get a boost from the reporter's flashbulb. Basically, the initiative order gives you another chance to shake a minion or two free of the rope, but that effect won't manifest until they take their turn.

OOC:
Okay I can always do EMT duties once the fights over... eheh.

Is one threat enough for a setback on me? This is probably like the rope flicking weight training exercise but more tiring. XD

OOC:
LOL. That takes out a whole minion group!
Max vigorously shakes the rope as the six masked figures on the roof begin to shimmy down. "What the—" one of them exclaims as he loses his grip on the rope. The figure tumbles downward with a scream, knocking two more invaders free. All eyes watch in horror as they plummet twenty feet straight down and land on the mat—crunch, crunch, crunch.

Meanwhile, the spectacle of the fall distracts Max long enough to give the three other attackers a straight shot down the rope—and with Max holding it, a free shot at him!
OOC:
1 Threat -- they basically plummet straight into Max, making a Brawl check against him. That's a hit for 7 damage, minus your Soak. Do you want to use Unarmed Parry?
Meanwhile, in the alley, the three toughs left standing aren't too keen on being attacked by a maniac with a chain. "Watch it with that thing!" They circle Hank and take some wild swings.
OOC:
That's 6 damage, minus Hank's Soak, for 2 Wounds.

Rolls

Brawl on Max

4 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 3 Success

Brawl (Striking) on Hank

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Lance looks at the three men who fell from the ceiling. "First the skylight, now the mat..." He looks toward the front door. "But I don't like the sound of whatever it is that just came in. Max, Red, make sure the mayor stays safe!" The gym owner hops off the mat and starts jogging toward the front door, which is on the other side of the locker rooms.
OOC:
3 PCs are up! Check the Initiative tracker below for status effects, boosts, and so on.

As the thugs attack Hank, Marv takes a drop step and gets on their blind side. As they pummel Hank, Marv can hear his heartbeat thundering in his ears, rage at the temerity of these clowns trying to step to his turf blotting everything out except for their stupid faces.

"What am I? Chopped liver?!?!" He flies off the ground like a coiled spring, flying through the air, leading with both knees. "Give 'em the steel, Hank!"
OOC:
Could I use my advantage to give the Masked Leader a setback dice?

Marv hears bone crunch as he lands full-force on one of the three thugs. The guy goes down hard as Max regains his feet.
Eskaton says:

OOC:
If they were in the same location, that would work, but he's way on the other side of the building. Do you want to pass two boosts to Hank?
Jan 4, 2020 5:08 am
OOC:
I will support the actual fighters in spirit. in the meantime more aiming I suppose.
"Ha! Nice thrashing!" Red cheers on Max, almost feeling sorry for these punks.

"Right Miss Mayor, since you're electing not to flee we'll help keep you safe!" Red stands firm as she scans for any other threats. Hope the others are okay.
