"I'd like to know what it's for in the first place."

As the others take a more careful look around the room Aduan stands still in its center spending a full minute sensing 'magic'.

If there is something at work that is not obvious to the eye, Aduan would sense it.

Aduan senses no magic at play in the tower. There may be some cyphers lying about, and the garden outside is numenera of a kind, but you've already sensed that.

On the wall is a metal panel with glass screens and various controls. It is a difficulty 4 task to figure out and use the following functions:
1. Turn the lights in the tower on or off.
2. Deactivate or activate the defense mechanism outside the tower.
3. Communicate via audio with the other two levels of the tower.

Aduan calls after Rohim, "Give us a holler if you get into trouble up there." Aduan pays closer attention to what is going on with the panel on the wall.

Second Floor
This is the laboratory for the clave. In it, there are a number of different experiments in the works involving chemicals, mechanical devices and batteries, and stranger things

A notebook kept by one of the priests is open on a table here amid a number of chemicals and tools for working with chemicals detailing a number of different attempts at creating a cure for the malady plaguing the town.

Stairs continue up to a third floor.

After careful study the panel system seem to become clearer to Nim. "Seems these panels have little use, there seems to be a communication interface for the other floors and perhaps some sort of activation mechanism for the trap that blocked our entry. Might be good to activate to dissuade any potential threats from entering as long as someone stays down here to deactivate it when we need to make a getaway." Nim considers this information for a moment. "What do you think Aduan? worth the reactivation?"

Rohim put the notebook in his bag and head to the 3rd floor slowly. If somebody is up there, he would prefer to spot them before they do him.

This is the living quarters for the individuals in the clave. There are three beds here, along with other comfortable furnishings. It is obvious to anyone that no one has been here for a few days. Old food sits on plates on a table next to half-full mugs of cold, stale coffee.

Amid the personal belongings of one of the priests, you find a journal started months ago by a man named Xarmun.

Interesting Rohim proceed with a quick search of the room for anything hidden that could be useful (more notes, Shins, items).

Once he is done, he comes back down with his findings.
"Hey guys, seems the Priests went to investigate a Faceted Dome one day's journey Northwest of the village. They didn't tell anyone to avoid alarming the citizen, so that would explain the guard's behavior."
Rohim shares both journals and wait for everyone to have a look.

The note to myself was intentional, so I wouldn't need to look up the information later.
One is a small amount of level 4 powder that, if consumed or inhaled, restores 1d6+2 Speed.

Another is an injector with a level 3 serum that grants a creature the ability to resist a poison or disease as if the task were 2 levels lower for 28 hours.

The last is a bit of level 5 liquid in a tube that will put the imbiber to sleep for 1 hour.
