House Sharva is an ancient and very proud noble house originating in the most inhospitable parts of the Astrals. They are a generally reclusive house with bursts of expansion and strengthening always followed by long periods of stagnation and isolation. Currently, they are getting more involved in the proceedings in the realm and recent dealings have made them an important political player but already, there are internal forces inside the House attempting to steer it away from the Crown Lands and back to focusing solely on their own homelands again.

House Bodaway is a very nomadic House, built around the movements of their herds of horses and cattle. Their winter pastures are located by the sea on the westernmost portions of their lands and they move/follow the herds to the sring and summer pastures further inland in the Gaplands. They have established several watchtowers along the route but their only real fortification is Bodaway Keep which sits on a low rise with high walls and can accommodate every member of the house and most of their prized breeding stock.

OOC:
Okay, so here we go. Keep in mind, that during each turn, you can choose to roll for an event, or gain 5 wealth. You can gain wealth twice before you MUST roll for an event. You need to narrate how the change effects your house.

In addition, I'm going to list a few major events that happen in Scymira. You can post your responses to as many of them as you like. Your responses may illicit new responses from me or from other players. There's no limit to this for now; depending on how things go I might limit it to say three rounds or so. Once you've done everything you feel that you need or want to do, post 'ready' again in the ready thread. You can delete your post if a new post warrants a response on your part.

This is important: You want to respond to my events for your own sake. They will start off small, but if the NPC houses get their way, it won't be to your benefit. I may also throw out small stat adjustments for interesting RP.

EDIT: One last note. If you want to directly interact with an NPC house, it'll be just like any other RPG, give me your post, I'll give you a reaction. If there's a lot of dialogue, I may try to get with you in Discord to speed it up.
It is the 756th Royal Ascension, and King Kleinhardt II is, as he has for the last ten years, throwing a major banquet at the royal palace in Bromgarten. It's usually worth every House's while to attend, or... at least attempt to attend. It's so crowded with those of high status and their entourages, that sometimes the smaller houses can't even get in. This year, Houses Irave and Namelle have stated they're not even going to try to attend, and several others are beginning to lose interest as well.

In the south, House Mytheas has reported seeing large creatures in their normal fishing grounds, and has lost two ships to them already since autumn.

On the western front, House Gasharde has recently been buying up as much of the ship repair market as they can, and it is becoming nearly impossible to avoid dealing with them. Is this a good thing, or bad?

House Ala has been showing interest in Osberg. There's talk of a possible alliance and maybe even a marriage union.

House Zubech has started either charging ships a passage toll, or harassing free shipping line, depending on which side of the argument you're on.

Houses Irave, Namelle, Osmaa, Kraken Society, Revelos, Tamer receives personal invitations (and some more who shown disinterests toward the Royal banquet) receive visits from important members of House Sol to invite them to a special banquet they host for the new Festival of the Blaze during the week of Inheritance.

-High Lords of the Seas Otto Spaulding and Dell Wendell goes to attend King Kleinhardt's banquet, aiming to augment their status, counting on the fact that they were in the 5 richest houses of the kingdom to get in...

-High Lord of the Sea Lyre Seifer intriged by the rumors of a creature able to sink a ship moves with his fleet to investigate the sightings south of Mytheas.

-For now, the possible alliance between house Ala and house Osberg is of no concern to the Kraken Society.

-House Zubech's passage toll is no different the passage toll the Kraken society has been charging for passage north of Stormwrack Island all those years. So the Kraken Society will pay the cost as part of doing daily business in the area.

-High Lord of the Sea Lydia Darby will gladly attend the burning festival, bringing an already partly burned Maa-Talian flag and the old Kraken pirate flag, symbolizing their old bloodthirsty pirate ways they hope to leave behind them... They also have a special gift for their host, that will also represent their prayer for the future. House Sol and their guests will have the privilege during their Burning Festival to be the first to see the new Thunderworks High Lord Darby has been working on in the last years. Special bow-less arrows sent into the skies at night that explodes into all kinds of shapes and colors making the sounds of thunder each time.

When news break about some large creatures being spotted that are apparently able to destroy ships, House Sharva is not interested in investigating this any further. They do not travel by ship so this news does not appear to affect them. Let someone else deal with it.
The same applies to Gasharde's raised interest in the ship repair market.

The rumors about a potential alliance or marriage between Houses Ala and Osberg raise more suspicion in House Sharva. While both Houses' lands are very far away from Sharva's homelands, High Lord Oslan of House Sharva sends a small delegation to House Osberg to find out what the reasons behind this union might be and to offer their assistance if needed. Goal of this delegation is to find out why Ala is pushing for this alliance, what Osberg would get out of it and whether it is in Sharva's interest to try and oppose it or to help it along.

High Lord Oslan Sharva publicly states that House Sharva will not attend the royal banquet but his nephew, Lord of the Planes Delios Sharva, the head of House Sharva's lands in the Crownlands, decides to defy this decision and travels to Bromgarten with his wife, Ris, formerly of the Wild Cat Tribe of House Tamer, anyway to attempt to attend the banquet and solidify his position in the Crownlands and as the more open arm of House Sharva. He also hopes to meet representatives of House Zubech there. While the shipping tolls do not affect Sharva directly, he is interested in finding out why Zubech is suddenly starting to charge a toll.
OOC:
TheVagrant, let me know if House Sharva would receive a direct invitation to the festival. If not, they would not reach out for it but if yes, they might be interested in attending.
At the same time, a small conflict broke out at the border between the lands of Sharva and Sellelanar with both attempting to tax the same village. Sharva sent a small group of soldiers there to defend their claim if necessary but it never came to an actual fight as the mayor of the village sided with Sharva and Sellelanar gave up on this minor claim rather than risk a war over it.
The mayor was honored for his wise decision and granted a small reward from Sharva to reward his loyalty.

I'll just take the 5 wealth, turning it into 40 wealth.
Fugue continues to gain wealth from their mining operations.

The head of Fugue, Erik Fugue, decides to attend the royal banquet, along with his daughter, Maria Fugue. The overall attitude that the Fugue household takes is that going to the banquet is worth it. The risk and cost of going is low, while the potential benefit is high. Even if they are rejected, then it is of no loss to them.

Fugue is not very pleased at Gasharde's attempt at gaining a monopoly on the ship repair business. A bit ironic, considering the monopoly on the etherite trade, but as they say, thieves worry about other thieves. They'll attempt an alliance with nearby trade empire Maa-talia, who would share a mutual interest in prevent such a monopoly.

Fugue is currently watching the Ala-Osberg relations very closely, sending spies to gather information, and to verify the rumors. Individually, those houses are not much to worry about, but when combined, it could disturb the balance of power in Scymira. This would be particularly pertinent to Fugue, as they're the closest house to the area. If this were to be true, then Fugue would need to consider what actions to take.

Oslan Sharva is pleased to receive the invitation to House Sol's festival and while he does not attend himself, he is intrigued enough to send a small delegation headed by his younger cousin and knight of House Sharva, Tomas.
He is curious to find out whether there is deeper meaning and a hidden motivation behind the fact that Sol is organizing a festival at the same time as the royal banquet or not.

Maa-Talia will attend the Royal Ascension in full force. Claudia, Head of the House, will be attending in person along with a huge delegation of high ranking family members and many young bachlors and bachlorettes from major and minor families and vassal houses. Maa-Talia's large showing will be to use their influence/status among the royal family and powerful houses of Scymira for the following politics:

Rumored Ala-Osberg Alliance - It is not uncommon for young Maa-Talians using their fine arts of seduction and courting at these important events, but they have been encouraged to seek out relationships with young Ala and Osberg courtiers in order to disrupt any possible marriages between Ala and Osberg in order to avoid the strengthen of their rumored alliance.

Gasharde - Maa-Talia is worried about a ship repair monopoly given that much of their trading empire relies on ships. Claudia herself approaches the representatives of Gasharde to purchase half their shipyards at a fair price. If negotiations do not go well, she emphasizes that her deal is the best option for Gasharde's future.

Zubech - Maa-Talia has been accepting the "tolls" imposed by Zubech without any complaint and passing those expenses onto the prices of goods traveling between the Headlands and the West. This has decreased trading volume, which is not ideal. They have explained the reason for these prices increases to House Tamer. They will also emphasize with the Royal family and the other high powered houses at the Royal Ascension that given that Zubech is charging for passage by sea, it is their responsibility to deal with safety in the sea, thus they should deal with the large beasts causing problems near Mytheas. In the meantime, Maa-Talia is avoiding those waters as best they can and have invested in better defense and power for their vessels (Defense and Power bump in stats).

Sol Festival - Claudia, regrets that she cannot attend the Festival of Blaze personally, but given their increasing family size (Population bump) is able to send a contingent of trusted family members to represent Maa-Talia at what appears to be an important event in Scymira. She appoints her older brother's daughter, Tonia, as the head of the party. They bring three significant items:
1) a symbol of the past: A wooden carving of a coin with a ship on the face and a saw and hammer crossed upon it, a symbol of Maa-Talia's reliance on shipbuilding and repairs from other houses.
2) a prayer: written on a sealed scroll to be cast into the blaze.
3) a gift to House Sol for throwing the festival: an amber sculpture of two suns above a relief of Scymira, the eastern rising sun, representing House Sol, and the western setting sun, representing House Maa-Talia. When the sunlight passes through the amber suns, the words "Prosper Together" alight on the relief.

House Bodaway’s members are in great spirits as they attend the Royal banquet as it was announced that Elder Akecheta son is to marry the eldest daughter of house Zubech. With this alliance Zubech will receive several pairs of Bodaway’s famed brood mares and the daughter will be accompanied to Bodaway Keep with a hefty dowry that includes a new method to fashion barding for horses. This new armor is surprisingly light and allows Bodaway’s cavalry a significant improvement in the field.

Stewart Dakota remains at the Keep managing the preparations for the drive up to the spring and summer pastures and upon receipt of the invitation to the Festival of Flame dispatches Deputy Chenoa and a troop of calvary to attend.

The dealings of House Mytheas and Gasharde have little impact on House Bodaway since they have almost no Navy to speak of.

The Marriage and alliance between house Ala and Osberg is met with good cheer. Having these houses back in the good graces of the court and stable benefits all the houses of the realm. And if they are able to stabilize their houses they will be able to start buying cattle and horses again.

House Revelos: Irave says that they're more than willing to help defend the border. 'It's what we've been doing for the entire history of our house; we have no intention of stopping now'. Whether this is completely sincere is questionable.

The Festival of the Blaze attracted many people and many businesses in the Eastreach. Some good management allowed House Sol to use that opportunity to attract some of those permanently, increasing the House Population (+4)and Wealth (+6). The timing of the Festival and the fact that it is built for the common folks may have had a negative impact on the House reputation among the highest circles, but its popularity among the populace and the opportunity to create links with many others Houses helped House Sol status (-10 for reroll and +6 for event).

The whole Festival lasted a week with the official banquet in the middle. Vista Sol, head of House Sol, made a point to personally welcome and spent time with every representative of the visiting Houses. Accommodation were offered with care and every House with a symbol and prayer were offered to host a public ceremony with With pomp and circumstance for their offering. House Maa-Talia was installed in the main room of the banquet for all to see and the fireworks from Kraken society were added to the closing ceremony of the Blaze when fire was at his peak in the night before the last day. Every attending representative was thanked publicly in the closing speech and many personal gratitude was given by all the members of House Sol going around to make conversation and keep people enjoying themselves.

Talks were about hope for the future and opportunities to work together for commerce and protecting the Realm. Alot of attention was given to make sure everybody was enjoying themselves. By example, Duke Grammas's wife was rapidly taken aside by a young Sol noblewoman to try out dresses all day long and left with two of them as a gift.

When asked the reason for the Festival, the given answer was that they felt the people here needed some hope and something to look forward to and that it was the best way for House Sol to connect and present themselves to neighbours and allies. Of course, I was quickly obvious for anyone with politic savvy that the most Royal focused Houses were absent because of the Royal banquet. If asked about the timing, the reason explained was that the Royal Ascension time was the best time for the people to be able to travel and attends so they could go back home in time to prepare for the spring.

Kraken: On the seas of... oh hey, you get to name the southern ocean, outside of Stormwrack Island. What's it called? Name it and grab +2 status. After that, with that many ships, you definitely run into the monster. On the second week of searching, one of the ships frantically throws flags up, signalling the others to converge. What awaits them when they get there is a colossal sea reptile, like a crocodile, but with fins where the legs would be, bony protrusions growing from it's scales... and worse than that, it's already dead. There's no intelligence in its eyes, just an overwhelming hunger for the living. Roll your military dice vs. uh... 1. You'll definitely wound it and drive it off, might even kill it depending on your roll.

Maa-Talia: You not only disrupted the wedding, but you got a LOT of attention from the royal house. You get +5 status, and describe what difficult thing the royal house asks you to do in exchange for their continued favor.

House Sol: Your festival seems to have been a success, +1 status for each PC house that attended, but you also receive a nasty letter from the royal house. What is your response?

Everyone else: For those of you at the Royal Ascension, How do you handle not being noticed there, or alternately, what do you do while you're not being noticed by the royal house? For those of you at the Festival of Blaze, RP/coordinate with Sol and decide how that turns out. I'm good with a co-post or a series of individual ones.

Delios Sharva and his wife do not expect to be welcomed with open arms at the royal banquet, in fact they would not have been surprised to see their attendance denied after the High Lord publicly announced that Sharva would not be attending it.
They are pleasantly surprised when they not only find themselves invited to the banquet but also personally greeted by the king's second son. He expressed the house's gratitude for Delios defying his High Lord's will to serve the king.
Delios is not unaware of the fact that he is in a delicate position but finds himself unable to refuse when the prince offers him a task that he promises his house and father will be very grateful for when it is completed.
Bandit activity on merchants as well as royal caravans in the crownlands has increased drastically in the last months. He tasks Delios with taking care of this problem, preferably using the bandits to make an example for anyone planning something similar in the future.

During the course of the banquet, Lord Delios finds the representatives of House Zubech and strikes up a conversation with them. At some point during this conversation, he brings up the shipping taxes they have been raising recently, acting as if that was just a random thought, not the reason behind approaching them in the first place.
He is trying to discover whether anything specific has happened or is planned that caused them to start taking tolls.
The Sharva representatives at Sol's festival stay mostly in the background, observing the proceeding, being polite and reinforcing the loose relations to other attendants.
When the festical draws to a close, they thank House Sol for the invitation and promise friendship and cooperation between the houses in the future but do not name any specifics. They return to the Astrals to report back to the High Lord without much fanfare. They explicitly don't commit to the festival and the house as much as others, like the Kraken Society, do.

Kraken: Your result was 17 compared to 1. Difference of 16. Monster was a d12, so that's down to d10. that leaves you with 4. Not enough to lower it again. The 1 isn't enough to lower any of your dice, so you lost no significant ships. If you'd like you can post about the battle and how the monster finally got away.

Meanwhile, your representative you sent to Gasharde comes back a little worse for wear. When House Gasharde found out who he was, they ran him out of town as a spy, notwithstanding his protestations to the contrary.

Any word on how Claudia's negotiations with Gasharde went regarding a "fair" buy out of half their ship repair yards?
Sometime during the Royal Ascension, whispers in the dark ...

"Claudia, Maa-Talia have been an excellent servant of the Royal House ... for that I am grateful. But I understand, Maa-Talia is also attending the Festival of Blaze ... perhaps, you can use these new ties to get close to House Sol. They must be punished for this insult ... "

---

Back in the North Coast towards the end of the season after all ceremonies and festivals are complete:

" ... Tonia, I don't want to hear it right now. This was an order directly from the King! It was reckless of House Sol to stage a festival at the same time as the Royal Ascension without asking permission. They need to learn to be more careful with the Royal Family. You must use these friendships that you've forged to carry out the royal request," Claudia orders in frustration.

"The festival had nothing to do with insulting the Royal family. It was a great idea to provide support and spirit for those less fortunate and without the resources to attend a Gala as extravagant as the Royal Ascension. It took great leadership to pull off that festival, more than I can say of some other Leaders in Scymira. House Sol could be a great ally in the East for us. With no word from House Tamer in months, we need allies in the East!" Tonia's voice is full of urgency and self-belief.

"Houses need to accept the consequences of their actions."

"Yeah well, maybe it's time for the Royal House to accept some consequences for theirs ... " Tonia replies defiantly.

Claudia looks deadly serious at her niece, one of Maa-Talia's smartest and strongest members, and a personal favorite of Claudia's. After a long minute frozen like statues, Claudia takes a deep breath and begins to consider the possibility and implications of Tonia's suggestion ...

House Sol send its best diplomat to apologize to the royal family. He offers that House Sol meant no disrespect to the Royal House, they simply hoped to allow their people, after all the fear and hardship they endured with the precedent family watching over them, a way to enjoy the same sense of security and celebration that the citizen of the capital benefited with the Royal Banquet. He closed by offering House Sol's gift for the anniversary of the coronation, a live-sized portrait of the king painted by the best painter in the Eastreach.

After the Festival, Vista Sol thanks all the House you assisted or participated in the Festival of the Blaze and promesses to keep in touch to cultivate those great friendships.

The council members of House Bodaway attending the Royal Ascension aren't put out in the least by not being recognized by the Royals. They are their mainly for the purpose of reinforcing their relationship and alliance with House Zubech. They return to the North Coast in good spirits with a new member to show the ropes.

Deputy Chenoa is quite taken in by the Festival that House Sol put together and brings back many tales of rubbing elbows with people of every station and how that reminds her of the way House Bodaway runs their herds with everyone from highest to lowest pitching in. She wonders if this approach might be a better one than a rigid monarchy that the realm currently employs.

Apologies for the two I missed.

Maa-Talia: As Claudia arrives, she sees an envoy from another House being chased out of town. It doesn't bode well for her trip. In fact, although no overt action is taken against someone of her social rank, she is never able to secure a meeting with anyone of any significance in Gasharde. Apparently, they mean to play a ruthless game, and are not in the mood to negotiate about anything.

Sharva: The answer you're given is as innocuous as it is vague. Zubech merchants must pay tolls in other waters, so it is only fair they they be subsidized by the fares collected in their home waters. The remark makes sense on its face, but you get the feeling that there's more to it than simple trade balances.

In the aftermath of what the royal house sees as a Fiasco, House Sol's leading members are called to the palace in Mossberg. It is not a request for an audience, it is a summons.

House Gasharde owns so many shipyards now that even the ones they don't own are beginning to cooperate with them, and the price of repairs goes up. Houses that have split territory or more than 50% of their borders on the ocean [Maa-Talia, Sol(35 out of 54), Kraken, Sharva] need to give me a Wealth check (roll d100, get equal to or less than your Wealth). If you succeed, you have enough savings in your coffers to not be badly affected by the uptick in prices. If you fail, you lose 1d6 Wealth.

House Ala is willing to marry off a few of the nobles enmeshed in last season's dalliances to House Maa-Talia, but at a price. Either a dowry or a promise of military support.

Falconloft sent a note to deadpool_qc
House Halas is reporting an increase in orc sightings along their border. Could it be that they've finally decided to stop pushing through the Breach? is it a feint? Or are there actually enough orcs in the northern wastes to push both directions soon?

House Kiralyi begins to tax only House Zubech shipping, leading to border tensions between the two Houses.

A plague sweeps through House Tamer's lands, decimating the population. Houses Sharva and Kraken, roll a Population check, but roll OVER your population to succeed. If you roll under, lower your population by 1d4.

If you have follow-on from last season (e.g. monster-chasing), feel free to continue those lines as well.

The Sharva delegation that had been sent to House Osberg remains there, offering general assistance to the House after their planned alliance with Ala fell through. They don't commit to a specific course of action until Osberg requests something from them, in which case they would decide how much to commit to this potential collaboration.

They ignore the information about attacking orc tribes. Many houses stand between the lands of Halas and the Astrals so there seems to be no urgency regarding this.

Lord Delios' part of Sharva decides to keep an eye on the growing conflict between Zubech and Kiralyi but doesn't intervene. For now, House Sharva just hopes that this tension might reveal Zubech's real motives behind the sudden tolls.

Sharva's mission to get rid of the bandits plaguing the crown lands was a total success. The culprits have been lured into traps, arrested and publically executed by Sharva soldiers. Their stolen goods have been confiscated and returned to their original owners - after deducting a generous finder's reward of course. The Royal House is pleased with the successful completion of the task and has publically, although not enthusiastically, annouced its gratitude to Lord Delios - not to the full House of Sharva, only his faction that attended the banquet.
In order to fulfill this mission without compromising its own defenses, Sharva conscripted more young men into military service, strengthening its army even after the completion of this task.

The plague originating in the land of House Tamer threatened to move over into Sharva lands as they share a rather long border and their people are still very connected after the only very recent transfer of land that came with the marriage between Delios and Ris. When news of the plague became public, High Lord Oslan ordered Delios to close all borders between Tamer and Sharva to protect Sharva people. Peasants who had recently been in Tamer lands were forced to cross the border and stay in Tamer lands so Sharva would not be affected by the plague. While these measures greatly displeased the population, many of whom were now cut off from friends, family and trade partners on the other side of the border, it kept the deaths of Sharva citizens to a minimum.
Lady Ris is working hard on reassuring the population that this measure is only temporary and has managed to keep unrest and dissatisfaction mostly contained for now.

In classic Sharva fashion, the Krakens' letter has not been answered. As Sharva has not taken any losses, monetary or otherwise, from the ship repair monopoly, High Lord Oslan refuses to get involved with this business.

Hearing of House Halas' sightings of increased orc activity, the council decides to send several groups of outriders to patrol the northwestern border. Shockingly one of these patrols comes across a lumber encampment that is under attack by a frenzied orc raiding party. The well mounted and armed patrol is able to kill most of the orcs and drive off the rest with no causalities but the lumber encampment is in a shambles.

The patrol offers the protection of house Bodaway in exchange for shipments of lumber and fealty, which the leader of the encampment gladly accepts.

After reporting back about the orc raid and the patrols success the council decides to send delegates to house Halas and house Namelle to discuss preparations for a potential incursion from the orcs into the North Coast.

Season 2

Rolling and Stats details: here
[ +- ] Stats Changes
House Gasharde's refusal to discuss the ship repair monopoly last season immediately triggers a contingency plan developed last season with House Fugue. To hide any suspicions, Maa-Talia sends the increased payment for seasonal maintenance of their ships to Gasharde (PASSed wealth check) and informs Gasharde that they will proceed with the scheduled seasonal maintenance. On route to the ship repair yard, Maa-Talia stops to pick up troops from House Fugue, who hide below decks. The fleet then travels to the closest shipyard to Gasharde's capital and docks for repairs at which point the Fugue army surges on land to launch an attack on the capital until Gasharde yields control of at least half their shipyards to House Maa-Talia and some of their mountain land in the east to House Fugue.

As this is unfolding, Maa-Talia received a messenger from the Kraken Society. Despite already setting plans into action, Maa-Talia accepts the invitation to attend the meeting in Larimar regarding the future of the ship repair industry in case reinforcements are needed to convince Gasharde they must relinquish their monopoly. If the current offensive goes as planned, then Maa-Talia will now have a large stake in the ship repair industry, so negotiations regarding future business will still need to be discussed with Houses needing repairs. Holanna Talia, the Quartermaster General of the Maa-Talia fleet, and her husband Granato travel to Larimar on a small fast ship to attend the meeting.

Tonia Talia, Favoured Niece of Claudia Talia (Head of House Maa-Talia) travels to the Royal Capital to mediate talks between the Royal House and House Sol.

Claudia Talia, Head of House Maa-Talia, visits House Ala to discuss their demands of marriage dowry. She explains to the Head of House Ala that she does not believe in dowries and that marriage is a free bond between lovers. Claudia hints that this should please House Ala because it is not clear to Claudia why Maa-Talia would be the one paying dowry given that Maa-Talia's fortunes are on the rise as one of the wealthiest and high-status houses. It might be House Ala that would need to pay dowry to House Maa-Talia. They would have to ask for judgement from the Royal House, of course, and reminds Ala of Maa-Talia's currently high favour with the Royal House (outcome of last season), but then reiterates that she would prefer not to get into such a legal mess and just leave dowries out of marriage. However, Claudia does mentions that House Maa-Talia has had excellent trade yields this season (wealth boost from Ascent) and is looking for places to invest further. If the marriages to go through, then House Ala would be a very likely place to look for future investment, if their friendly relationship continues of course.

In order to take the capital, a fair number of troops were needed, to the point that it would require a suspicious number of ships. However, this was solved by transporting the troops in several batches weeks apart from each other. When the troops were assembled, they went for two wave attack, sending one half first, then another to support them later on in the fight.

An envoy arrives with news that they purchase most of their military power from Borovopos, but would be willing to pay for even more, IF the cost were split. (That means, you lose 10 wealth and get two additional d6's that can be used only for defense against orcs. You can also send them back to get 5 wealth back.)

Maa-Talia: House Ala is willing to forgo a traditional dowry with some firm assurances that investments will be made in Ala by House Maa-Talia. It's much the same deal they made with Osberg, just the other way round.

Sharva: The wave of sickness seems to have passed, but there are many still fleeing Tamer lands because of the widespread breakdown of society there in the wake of the plague. How do you handle it?

Lord of the Planes Delios Sharva sets up strict border controls between Tamer and Sharva land. People who can prove that they have family in Sharva lands and who don't show symptoms of the plague (or any disease) are allowed to pass the border and live with their families. Those without families in Sharva lands are being turned away and denied entry - that includes merchants trying to cross the border for trade.
People who appear sick when trying to cross the border are being arrested and sent to a designated prison by the border where they are incarcerated until they die or no longer show signs of sickness.

A delegation of former House Tamer members is sent into Tamer territory to demand that House Tamer assists in the guarding of the border. While never making threats, the delegation insists that continuing to allow Tamer citizens to pass into Sharva land without permission would be considered a hostile act.

After every representatives have arrived and rested, High Lord Spaulding opens the meeting...

Aye Aye Gentlemens, Miss Holanna,

I have called on your houses to speak about House Gasharde and their plan to take the monopoly of the shipyard industries. I, High Lord of the High Sea Spaulding, fear the financial consequences of their acts. An increase in the repair costs would mean an augmentation of the transportation prices, fish prices, oil prices, of all the naval related businesses. Those augmentations would probably result in a considerable financial loss for all of us. Surely some houses would not be happy about that... And i think at some point there will be a price war… That could mean bankruptcy for some… And House Gasharde would be there to buy us, like they did with House Hashid... We have already taken action, there is now a blockade north of Stormwrack Island and south of Roxany. Every Gashard ship will be captured, and all materials destined to them from the east will be turned away or bought. I want to know my friends if you plan to do something about them...

A simple blocade won't be enough, I invited House Fugue, a known ally of house Maa-Talia, hoping that we could count on you to help strengthen the blocade on land.

"If House Fugue were to do that, we would be expending resources, while the other houses stand to reap the benefits."
Apr 16, 2020 7:18 am
Holanna of House Maa-Talia rises from her seat to speak next, "Lord Spaulding,", the Quartermaster General's affect seems a little wary given Maa-Talia's previous history with Kraken, "What is your long term plan with this blockade? To starve them out? They occupy a large region of land in one of the most fertile parts of Scymira. My concern would be that our ships will require maintenance and repairs before they run out of food. We believe more immediate action is necessary."

"Also, what exactly is your demands of House Gasharde? If they revert their pricing for repairs will you end the blockade? If so, they could re-supply and then increase pricing again. Or do you wish to crush Gasharde? Eliminating such a large house would be very resource intensive and might destabilize the region, which might have negative consequences on their neighbors.".

Holanna pauses as she lets everyone make the connection that Maa-Talia is one of Gasharde's closest neighbors, the other of course being Fugue.

"Maa-Talia would like to offer an alternative demand. We would like to take possession of half their shipyards, breaking the monopoly and allowing for competitive repair costs again. We have made the appropriate calculations and decided that we have the resources to undertake such a business endeavor."
OOC:
Note: I have a large boost of land and population that I have not narratively or mechanically used yet.
"Any houses that support this endeavor would be rewarded with discounted repairs ... depending, of course, on the level of support. But even if you simply choose not to oppose our plan, then prices should drop for you given the balanced competition."

Holanna returns to her seat to await discussion.

During Claudia's stay with House Ala, a messenger arrives with a sealed scroll. Checking the seal has not been tampered, she opens the scroll and reads the message. It is a lovely update from her cousin, Samantha, regarding the birth of her new baby and some shared memories of their childhood growing up together. At least that is what the message looks like to anyone other than Claudia. In reality, it is a coded message from her Uncle Tavernus, known by some as the Nightshade and her master of spies. It informs her that he has detected a potential plot against Maa-Talia and requests funds to investigate. Claudia looks overjoyed and asks if she may borrow a writing room to reply. Once alone in the room, her expression changes to frustration, but it is unclear if she is annoyed about the potential plot or the request. She writes a message of congratulations back to Samantha, including some of her own memories from their childhood together ... directing Tavernus to use the necessary funds to investigate. Giving the letter back to the messenger to return to the North Coast, she shares the good news with House Ala and asks if they can celebrate the birth of Baby Clarice with a toast at dinner tonight.

To answer your first question Miss Holanna, the blocade was simply a way to gain some time to decide what to do after. As for your offer and your desire for support, I think we can help and maybe offer even more. If we help you with some troops, would you be interested in a partnership in the east ? We have many locations that would be ideal for shipyards, allowing us to further expend the territory...
Apr 17, 2020 10:54 pm
Larimar

Holanna answers, "We very much appreciate your support. We have already set plans into action for the take over, so if all goes well, then prices will come back to normal once it is resolved. However, if we encounter unexpected resistance, we would be very thankful of your offer of troops, which would be rewarded with at-cost repairs moving forward."

"Opening new repair yards in the east could be a future endeavour, but would depend on the demand for ship repairs. The reason the current option is feasible is that the infrastructure is already in place, so we would only be taking over the operation of Gasharde's existing yards removing a lot of the upfront investment. Building new yards in the east could be costly. Maa-Talia would not want to commit to such a venture at this point."

Holanna appeared to be finished when a thought came to her. She added, "However, if Kraken and/or other eastern houses wanted to pay those upfront costs, then we could consider moving some of the repair yards to the east."
Apr 18, 2020 12:43 am

High Lord Spaulding takes a few seconds to think before answering, Then the Kraken society will send ships to aid your takeover. Their mere sight should be a plus for any negotiations you have undertaken already and if need be, they would be ready to take action rapidly. As for the business in the east, all our cities already have at the bare minimum a shipyard to take care of our ships. It wouldn't be costly at all to upgrade them to a profitable degree. Miss Holanna, I know that house Maa-Tali and the Kraken Society have a difficult past so I make this offer, West and East, let's partner up in the Shipbuilding and maintenance industry. A real partnership, 50-50. And let this partnership be the start of an era of peace between our people, that could maybe even lead down the road to house Maa-Talia and the Kraken society becoming allies... Of course I do not ask you to give an answer right now, but I do ask you to relay the message to Lady Claudia and to take the time to consider my offer.
Lord Spaulding takes a few seconds before adding, Now if anybody else would like to add anything or to speak business with the others present be my guest. Otherwise, you are all welcome to stay. For the week, if you need anything, it will be generously provided by us. I wish you all a good stay. Miss Holanna, High Lord Pickering will be ready to depart tomorrow morning. A message will be sent immediately to High Lord Lee who will be joining us on the way with part of the Kraken society's fleet. Addressing himself to Fugue's representative, If you wish, we can have cabins for you and you retinue made available to ease your return trip.
Apr 20, 2020 4:32 pm
House Sol: When House Sol's representative is called before the king, he is treated very politely, but there is an undertone to the words. You are free to hold your festival at any time OTHER than the season of Ascension. If this is agreed to, there will be not further discussion of it. If it is not agreed to, the royal house demands compensation to the tune of a 20% tax on any festival-related activities.
Apr 21, 2020 5:16 am
House Sol receive the reprimand graciously. They apologies again and inform that they will look for another date for the Festival of the Blaze. If no other time are appropriate for their people, they will pay the tax without issue. They thanks the royal House for their understand and benevolence before going back home.
Apr 23, 2020 4:49 am
Despite the Royal house rebuttal, House Sol continued to reap the benefit from their publicity campaign and the Festival of the Blaze. An influx of citizens poured in with the season, bringing in specialized tradesmans and men-at-arms looking to improve there lot.

The new expert were put in good use, strengthening both the economy and the military of the House.
Apr 23, 2020 6:57 pm
With the House Tamer Plague ravaging the Headlands and House Zubech charging access tolls through their waterways, House Maa-Talia abandons their trading port in the Headlands and working with the support of House Sol, begins to build a new eastern trading port at a site on the water between House Sol and House Omaa.

Battle on the Waterfront
OOC:
Attacking forces had 6 d6's, for a total of 16 (without that second bonus). The defending forces had only 3d6s but had a citadel in their capital, so they got 11 with their defenses. That's not enough for any of their armies to shrink, but they ARE pushed back out of the waterfront cell. I'll leave that to House Fugue to describe in more detail.

I'm a bit confused by how that works. From my reading of the military rules, I would lose a d6, and they would lose a d6 in addition to having a d6 reduced to a d4.

OOC:
You're exactly right, I don't know what I was thinking. I had wires crossed there somehow. Proceed!
Apr 28, 2020 12:10 am
Aiming for surprise, the armies of House Fugue that were secretly shipped in by House Maa-talia attacked Gasharde, streaming out of the dense forests near the capital.

The outer defenses of the capital did their job, allowing Gasharde to pick off a fair amount of Fugue's army using their higher position, but the surprise attack didn't allow them to prepare some of their defense measures, such as boiling oil.

The sheer number of soldiers, along with the advantage of the surprise attack, allowed Fugue to break through. Currently Gasharde's defense is in a poor state.
Apr 28, 2020 2:56 pm
Fugue: Gasharde is almost certainly gathering forces for a counterattack, but perhaps it doesn't have to come to that. You're in a position to introduce your demands and see what happens.
For everyone else, did I finish up everything for you this season or are there threads left hanging that I need to address.

Apr 28, 2020 4:31 pm

It neatly and simply outlines the purpose behind the attack and the demands Fugue is making.

The letter from Gasharde doesn't come until the army is almost ready to move in to begin a new assault. When it does, it is short and to the point.

To House Fugue:

May your bloodlines be forever cursed. We gained what we did through business, and through your lack of focus. Now you seek to punish us for it. So be it. We have little chance of winning a prolonged war, and the hardship it would cause our people is not worth it. We will acquiesce to your demands, for now. We will, however, petition the royal house to hear our case, and we are sure that we will be in the right. Enjoy your spoils while they last.

Ooh, harsh words.
House Fugue pulls its armies from Gasharde's capital, having acquired its goals.

Another brief letter is sent to Gasharde.
[ +- ] Letter
OOC:
Probably will have to face the royal house soon, so might need to request the support of other houses, especially those that helped in the action. If House Fugue has to explain themselves, probably will go with "maintaining the stability of the region" argument, since it's true that the monopoly was creating instability.
May 6, 2020 4:26 pm
In the winter of 756, the plea from House Gasharde reached the royal house. Kiralyi was immediately stuck for options. They'd been hiding their lack of cash flow well, but with this request, everything was strained.

They called upon their supporters and other 'loyal houses' to join them as they prepared to march west to 'stabilize the region'. Sheono, Borovopos, Osberg, Zubech, and Reyas joined the cause.

Ala, Sellelenar, Mytheas and Halas remained neutral for the moment.

Irave and Omaa refused outright, and Namelle, who was so dependant on the royal house for military anyway, had nothing to send.

Everything seemed to be gearing up to a massive civil war... and then a third front appeared. Gundukzar, Kirad, and Vsere, proclaimed themselves independant of the royal house, and set up a Free Council of the Headlands. Suddenly, Kiralyi had an ACTUAL rebellion to handle as well.

And then the Tamer plague rose. All those who had died from the plague suddenly rose as one, and swept toward Zubech. Sharva's crown lands were under threat as well.

In the midst of all this, what do your Houses do?
May 6, 2020 5:11 pm
When the attack on House Gashard becomes public, High Lord Oslan Sharva grows worried. Not only is there significant military action happening close to the homelands, but also, apparently a grouping of houses has apparently decided that economic strengthening of a house is apparently reason enough for a war, which is dangerous for all houses, even those that do not concern themselves much with the larger politics of the realm.
House Sharva therefore decided they had to get involved.

First, a letter to House Gasharde was penned and a delegation of trained and heavily armed soldiers was sent to ensure the safe arrival of the letter and the diplomat carrying it at the court of Gasharde.

In addition, they reach out to the houses that attended Kraken Society's meeting, and the houses that are currently rebelling against the royal house. The statement is worded slightly differently for each house, but the message is simple.

None of us are going to survive the wrath of the royal house alone. Let's join forces to defend ourselves.

House Sol has sent a modicum of troops to answer the Royal summon. Their main goal, however, was to report back to Sol on the status of the loyal armies. What they discover is this: The royal army is barely there, and badly equipped. House Zubech armies outnumber them 10 to 1, and there's a LOT of grumbling.

House Zubech has sent only half their armies, however, as the other half is on their southern border.

The commandos and shadows mages they send to investigate the zombie outbreak report back as well. The source of the illness, as well as they can determine, is a mage's school because of course it is. The shadow mages report back that an ancient text was opened and apparently cast, although they can read only a small portion of the incantation. It appears to have affected the twon via a large cloud of darkness, but it is no longer contagious in the air (the fact that they sent a report back at all seems to prove this). Now, it spreads only through contact with the zombies, presumably by being bitten or otherwise having the blood infected.

Season 3

Rolling and Stats details: here
[ +- ] Stats Changes
Maa-Talia takes over 50% of Gasharde's ship yards.
OOC:
I've increase in 8 land since starting (16 cells worth), so I'll spend some of those to signify taking control of 50% of the Gasharde Shipyards. You can choose how many and where those are on the coast of Gasharde. Whatever's left I'll use to increase my presence in the Crownlands, described below, again you can pick, just fill out my land a bit more there.
Maa-Talia begins to work with Kraken to transfer skills to Eastern Shipyards to create a more distributed infrastructure for ship repair.

Claudia sends a message to the King to explain the necessity of the Gasharde take over:
-She explains that the ship repair monopoly had the potential to destabilize the kingdom if not regulated properly.

-Maa-Talia had taken reasonable and non-violent approach to deal with this threat to the kingdom. Claudia herself, head of Maa-Talia had setup a meeting with Gasharde to discuss the monopoly and reasonable terms for a stake in the enterprise during the Royal Ascension. She provides a copy of the letter (Note: this was an action I tried to take in Season 1).

-Gasharde completely ignored it without offering any reason or justification for how they planned to run the monopoly in a way that would not destabilize the kingdom. Not something a mature and reasonable house should do in this Kingdom.

-Instead Gasharde immediately increased prices with no justification, which could have lead to the collapse of shipping across the realm and a collapse of the economy.

-Thus, more drastic measured needed to be taken for the sake of the kingdom. A council of houses directly affected by the increased costs resolved the issue using more direct means.

-Gasharde could have avoided all this trouble by being reasonable, but instead must now pay the cost of the actions that were needed to get their attention.

-Claudia suggests that the King should support the loyal houses who rose up against Gasharde in an effort to save the kingdom from an economic catatrophe as their support in the coming rebellion far out weighs the support of one selfish house.

Claudia sends a copy of the letter to House Fugue and Kraken and emphasizes that they are supporting the Council in their decision to intervene in Gasharde's affairs.

She also arranges for her contacts among the royal house to influence the King in a favorable way towards this conflict (Status Move + Wealth Points).

Maa-Talia does not have many troops, but they send what they have to their lands in the Crownlands, increasing their lands as a results (OOC: as described above, just fill out my land there anyway that makes sense). This puts their troops in position to support the King's forces for the Rebellion and the Zombies Uprising. Although, they wait in Maa-Talia lands until Maa-Talia hear a favorable response from the Royal House regarding the Gasharde Affair.

Claudia receives word that Maa-Talia's investments in House Ala have produced a loss. Frustrated, but without the resources to deal with it at the moment, she accepts the loss and moves on. She reminds herself that it was a small loss for Fugue's help with Gasharde.

House Sol is building fortification on its southern border. They are going up slowly but steadily and they should be follow operational in a season or two.

An influx of refugees from the south continues to increase the population on their territories.

House Sol invest in their northern coastal city to develop its trading power, combining with Maa-talia new trading post, making this region a more attractive trading spot to bring more money and goods to the east coast.

House Sol will monitor closely the development of both conflict, the punitive force in the west as well as the undeads in the south, but will not make any additional move for the moment.

The High Lord sends a confirmation of support to High Mayor Gasharde and deploys a large portion of their army to join the war effort against the Houses that attacked Gasharde.

He also wants to send another letter to Lady Sellellenar, one filled with insults and accusations of cowardice, but his advisors counsel him against it and he ends up not sending any reply to her letter at all.

The part of the army that is not deployed against House Fugue and allies is gathered where House Sharva's lands meet the coast in the north, just in case of an attack against Sharva.
Lord Delios requests assistance against the undead hordes but is shot down by the High Lord as all the House's military strength is needed elsewhere. Delios and the Eastern House Sharva can do nothing but continue on their course, patrolling the borders and trying to prevent the undead from entering Sharva lands.
Lord Delios sends a letter to the Royal House, asking for assistance in protecting their lands from the undead but due to the current political situation in Scymira, he is not very hopeful that this call for help will be answered.
Lady Ris personally joins an armed expedition into Tamer lands to meet with the leadership of House Tamer and talk about plans on how to deal with the undead plague.

I had stationed them all in the Crownlands to join the fight against the zombies and/or the Headland rebels at the King's discretion. Although, that was depending on a favorable response from the King regarding the letter that I sent. Did my letter change the King's opinion regarding the Gasharde conflict in anyway? If the King de-escalates the Gasharde conflict, then I'll send my troops to the zombies and/or rebels. The beginning of the 756th year of Scymira should have started joyously, but throughout the land, omens spoke of a darker future. The declaration of independence of the headlands, the zombie plague that pushed further north, the rebellion in the west, all of these wore at the souls of the people. It was in this landscape of politics and disaster that the battle was set in what came to be known as the Battle of Precession, for it would spell a rising of some fortunes and a falling of others.

From the royal lands came the king's army and half of Zubech's. Zubech had meant to send all of it, but the zombie invasion changes those plans. Osberg joined as well, at the last moment, though their army was small and ill-equipped. Sheono, too came, their tiny, elite army, poised to strike at the weakest of the enemy's lines. Borovopos, though, although they had promised to support the king, pulled out at the last moment, for reasons known only to themselves... and perhaps one other. Finally, there was Sharva, ready to uphold the laws of the realm, no matter what the consequences would be. They rallied in support of Gasharde's remaining army, and hoped to crush the western houses.

But those houses were themselves well-prepared, and held good ground to defend.

House Fugue writes letters to the rebelling houses in the Headlands, calling for their support in the war, whether it be through military support, or through the use of their status to disrupt the houses aligned with the royal house, and that the first to do so would be supported by House Fugue.

With the war ongoing, Fugue decides to form a special artillery squad, using experimental ammo filled with etherite powder. The hope is that lobbing the etherite powder into the enemy will throw them into discord, given the etherite's psychogenic effects.

Maa-Talia's force will stay to fight.
Dear Mother,
We have won a great victory. A victory, I must say, I did not expect based on the initial reports of the number of houses against our actions. I am encouraged and ready to continue fighting for our cause, but as I look out at the King's coalition, I fear the odds are still not yet in our favor. But I believe, if the scales could be tipped a bit more, I think we could force the King's forces into a parlay, which of course favors your skills of negotiation.
Your loyal son,
Dorathus Talia, Commander of Maa-Talia's Army

Dear Tonia,
I am ever impressed by your ability to forge positive bonds with fellow nations. Now is a time more than ever that we need those bonds. Your recent interactions with House Sol have been particularly impressive, both at the festival earlier this year and now establishing a new and productive trading post. Please use this new bridge to help our House at a time of great need.
Your loving aunt,
Claudia Talia, Head of House Maa-Talia

After receiving the letter from Claudia, Tonia, who is heading the operations at their new trading port on the east coast near House Sol, travels to seek a private audience with Vista Sol, Head of House Sol to discuss possible ways that might influence Sol to change their role in the Gasharde Conflict. Ideally, Tonia would like to convince Sol to switch sides but simply finding an excuse to head home before the second round of battles would also be helpful. She emphasizes their growing positive relationship since the festival and the successful establishment of the trading port and Maa-Talia's continued commitment to strength the relationship. She asks what it would take for Sol's support?

Dear High Lord Spaulding of the Kraken Society,
Maa-Talia and Fugue have successfully defended our new stake in the shipyard repair business, but the odds are still not fully in our favor. If you are still interested in this mutually beneficial venture, we hope you will provide some much needed troop support. We feel another victory could force the King's coalition into a parlay where we could negotiate terms in our favor.
Sincerely,
Holanna Talia, Quarter Master General, House Maa-Talia

No one withdrew from the fight on the first day, but as night fell, both sides wondered how this would end. As the sun rose on the second day, and the mists that had descended on the battlefield burned away, a small contigent of House Ala troops arrived in the royal lines. It was nowhere near their full power, but it might have been just enough to turn the tide of battle...

With the addition of Ala's forces, the fighting ground down into a morass of small fights, each side too weak to force movement from the other. But then, just after noon, the twin-bladed flag of House Borovopos was seen coming into view. The hearts ofthe Westerners must have sunk at the sight, for the addition of these professional warriors meant certain doom for them.

But as they approached, their commander did not seek royal audience. Did they mean to join the fighting without sharing a plan? Certainly, that would be out of character for them. But then, as they approached the fighting, and drew arms, they turned and assaulted the royal formations in the rear!

Using the aftermath of the second victory as leverage, Maa-Talia sends messengers across the battle field to ask the King's Coalition for a parlay to negotiate peaceful terms. They suggest a round table with representatives from each of the houses involved.

In the meantime, Commander Dorathus Talia joins Borovopos's troops to thank them for joining their cause, but asks what lead to their change of heart.

I'm having a hard time following the seasons. Do I understand that almost a full year as passed since we started and that next season is the ascension with the replenishment of the military dice?

When Maa-talia's messengers bring offer of parlay, House Sol leader on the site express their opinion that negotiation of term is the best options. He voices to the Royal coalition that they can still negotiate from a position of authority and that a cease fire would allow the loyal House to restructure their forces to recover from losses and also solve the eastern matters that currently divide their forces.

OOC:
Yes, that's correct.

I need an Status check from House Sol if they're going to try to advise the royals. They don't have many armies here, and they just got done with a spat earlier this year.

If you want to do it still, it'll cost 5 status, and you can spend Wealth to gain an bonus to your roll equal to what you spent. It's going to be opposed, not by the royal house, but by a house advising them otherwise.

General Ruton, the commander of the Sharva army and a lower cousin of the High Lord, advises the royal house not to open negotiations and to instead continue the fight until the end. "They have started the war by attacking another house without provocation. By now negotiating peace with them, you would signal to every noble in the kingdom that this course of action is acceptable. An example needs to be made of these houses."

He also asks for a private talk with the king to offer another suggestion.

Near the end of the Week of Ascension, the battle lines slow, lock into place, and no one really makes massive advancements. Both sides wait for reinforcements. Both of the following happen at the same time:

A rider comes furiously from the east, a looking so affrighted that even before he's stopped his horse to hand a communique to the lead generals, the royal camps are uneased.

A fast schooner docks and offloads a passenger. He marches to the Western generals with an almost smug affection and hands them a copy of a letter.
[ +- ] An Open Letter, From the Kraken Society
Along with the letter comes news. House Kraken's move has already happened! Kraken forces landed near the capital as the battle here started, and decimated the royal army that was left behind. So quick was the strike that Kraken took almost no losses at all in the battle. House Kraken now holds the capital.

The royal house now consists of only those members here fighting, as the people of the capital were quick to depose the rest.

The question is now, before the new season starts...

Do you stay in Scymira or declare your independence?
