OOC:
Can I surreptitiously start my cellphone recording in my pocket before I attract Petrovich's attention?

Also, others feel free to jump in if you want. I don't want to steal the spotlight during the big showdown.
"Don't they teach honesty in the scouts anymore, Peckeritch? I coulda sworn that's what made my folks sign my little sister up. But then I guess that's not the badge you're sporting, is it?

Word on the street is that nobody ran away, you just let 'em walk out. Favor for a favor sort of thing. Funny sort of bribe if you ask me."

Hank keeps himself between Petrovich and the front door.

"So why the need for ex-cons to do your dirty work? Surely the force isn't that hard up for cops yet. So why you putting your job and safety on the line to pull the good folks of Drummond off the street?"

OOC:
Can I surreptitiously start my cellphone recording in my pocket before I attract Petrovich's attention?
OOC:
Sure. Try Skulduggery vs. the same difficulty I quoted for guy: +2 blues, but vs. RR+Black.

It makes sense for this to be a social combat of sorts, to have Hank make a Coercion check vs. Petrovich: RP+Black. He has a special ability that generates one auto-threat on checks against him.
Jun 25, 2020 1:01 am
OOC:
Uh oh. If Hank is heading up this social combat, I think I'll spend my June XP on a Coercion rank.

Woah! That's a fun weird roll. Is there such thing as a social combat crit?

Or if not, maybe the triumph could be that while I failed to start my cell recording without him noticing (or just hit the wrong button or whatever), Red already installed security cameras with audio that'll catch it all anyway?

Rolls

Skulduggery

2 Success, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Threat

Coercion

2 Success, 1 Triumph, 1 Failure, 1 Despair

Total: 1 Success, 1 Triumph, 1 Despair

OOC:
That's a great roll that demands interpretation! Yeah, for 4 Advantage or a Triumph, you can land a "critical remark" that causes 5 additional strain damage to the target. Other Triumph options: You can learn any motivation of the target, or learn their true goal if they have one. The camera idea works, too. Let me know which of those options works best for you, and I'll advance things (including the Despair, too!)

Guy slinks towards the hallway intersection.

Rolls

3 Success, 3 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat, 1 Despair

Total: 2 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Despair

OOC:
I think I'll just go for the critical remark. Word-talking isn't my strong suit, so a solid boost in the first round seems like a good use.

Maybe the part that got through to him is referring to it as a bribe? Maybe while he's willing to break the rules in many ways, he actually looks down on cops who takes bribes, so this makes him suddenly doubt himself.
Jun 26, 2020 1:17 am
OOC:
OK, first things first: His "bad rep" ability means he inflicts 2 strain on anyone who fails a check against him. Hank fits this bill with that Skulduggery check.

The threat from the Skulduggery check means that Hank's phone is actually dead...
Petrovich winces at Hank's tirade. "Ouch, there, friend!" he says, swapping the frown for a shit-eating grin. "Bribe is too... dirty word..." He gestures toward Hank's pocket. "I see the phone, by the way. Posting an Instagram story maybe? Good. People should know that two wanted convicts are right here in gym, acting like perfectly normal to run from prison custody." He looks to Lance and Jimmy. "Or do I misunderstand, Lance and Jimmy?" The two enforcers glower at Lance with grins of their own.

As Petrovich blabbers, Guy sneaks closer. He ducks into the small hallway by the backdoor, putting him closer to the action. Yet he realizes that if shit goes down, he's right in the way of the soap-and-water trap.

Lance seems visibly agitated by the tirade, but he says nothing.
OOC:
We'll say Guy's despair is that if the soap-and-water trap is sprung, he'll be affected, too.
OOC:
We'll use the Threat and Despair Hank rolled to upgrade his Coercion check and give him a boost (he has an ability called Charismatic Menace that means any checks against him by enemies generate 1 auto-threat.)

Lances takes some Strain for that! Using the 3 advantage to recover strain for Petrovich.

Rolls

Coercion + SP

5 Success, 5 Advantage, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 4 Success, 3 Advantage

OOC:
Missed Eskaton's post earlier: Marv's too far away to make out anything about the van without getting closer. Of course, a SP flip might indicate he has some binoculars or something if he wants to try that route. Then it'd be an Average (PP) Perception check, with a setback for the darkness.

Otherwise, Max or Hank is up!
Jun 27, 2020 1:25 am
Marv leans over against the edge of the rooftop, the binoculars hanging around his neck clanking of the small stone half-wall that circles the roof.

"Shit, better be careful with those." He says as he picks up the binocs and flips their "dark enhancement" lense down, peering at the van.
OOC:
Flipped the SP in the thread.
OOC:
GM edit: forgot the setback.

Rolls

Percept!

4 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Threat

Marv trains the binoculars on the van...

SavageBob sent a note to Eskaton
Jun 27, 2020 3:13 am
Marv sends a text to the group. "Careful, now! His friends are in a surveillance van! At least two of them. Don't say anything you don't want recorded!"
Jun 29, 2020 2:19 pm
OOC:
Bump! Someone needs to talk to them. Of if you're bored with the conversation, attack!
Jun 30, 2020 12:15 pm
"Well that's definitely something that should be checked into Sir. If they were in prison custody recently we can look into when they were last seen and at what prison, who was on shift for the detail and when it was reported that they escaped since there should be a report... Unless someone got sloppy and 'forgot' to report it if it was in the last 24 hours. Who's the Marshal on the case? They out of Grand Rapids or Detroit? Has the prison done a head count from an outside source to see if anyone else is missing? If there are more anomaly the entire staff might be under investigation since that would be a on the federal level for anything from negligence to corruption even colluding with an outside element related to a criminal and/or foreign entity shouldn't be ruled out until we find all the details and facts. If no one's been called yet... I guess we have some calling to do. If you two are the people he's talking about I suggest you get in contact with the US Marshal and FBI Field office now. Phones in the office gentlemen I can show you the way if what he's saying is true and we can get to the bottom of everything and everyone involved and make this right." Max finally states aloud after writing down some notes and doing the math on the timeline while extending an open hand toward the office.
Jun 30, 2020 1:02 pm
Petrovich scoffs at Max's legal mumbo-jumbo but doesn't immediately reply.
OOC:
Making a legal argument of this type could be either Charm or Leadership. Deception if it's just fast-talk gobbledygook (I'm no lawyer, so I can't say!). Try not to meta-game based on the difficulties. What is Max's true approach here? Setbacks are for his (unknown) motivations. Roll it up, Remnant!

Appeal to Petrovich's nobility = Charm: RRPP + 3 black
Appeal to legal enforcement powers = Leadership: PP + 3 black
Legal double-speak to confuse him = Deception: RR + 3 black

All add +1 threat automatically.
Jun 30, 2020 1:31 pm
OOC:
Leadership I think fits most due to quoting protocol versus trying to get Petro to do something he thinks might be right but doesn't want to since I'm treating him as an 'informant' or deception would be if that was all bull. I'mma use a story point also though to upgrade.

So success with 3 threat XD

"Ah, that's a good call. If there's actually crimes taking place, we gotta send that through the right channels. No offense to you, Vic, but the calls should go to the right folks to make sure it's all fully documented and squared away. If there is something more than just sloppy police work involved, we gotta get that in front of Internal Affairs."

Helping out with the mumbo jumbo

1 Advantage

Total: 1 Advantage

OOC:
Hanks' assist drops that to 2 threat. Using it to give Petrovich a boost. He also gets a boost from his goons, and for playing to Lance's fear about going back to the slammer.
Petrovich seems annoyed by Max's legal-ese. "Nice," he says with a crooked grin. He turns to Lance. "He just get out of the academy? Smart kid. I can see why you keep him around. But he has a point, eh Lance? Why don't we just call up the police? The FBI maybe? Let 'em know what happened? How you just walked off a work detail never to be seen or heard from again? You want to make the call? Or should I?"

Rolls

Coercion on Lance

3 Success, 5 Advantage, 1 Failure, 3 Threat

Lance glowers at the suggestion. "He's up to something," he says, aiming his comments at Hank, Max, and Jimmy rather than the prison guard and his goons. "I don't know what. But we still need the location of the warehouse and the kidnapped people. Let's not lose sight of that."
OOC:
+1 boost to the next social check. You know you're being listened to, and you know he keeps trying to provoke Lance. So up to you how to proceed, or if you just pummel the guy. :P

Rolls

Leadership on Hank & Jimmy

3 Success, 1 Advantage, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Success

Marv's peeking through the glass of the skylight, "Ugh... I wish I could hear what they're saying... Lance looks nervous." He tugs on the rope to make sure it's secure for the 10,000th time that night. "Max might be young but he looks like he's got it in hand," Marv looks at Hank's approving smile toward Max, "C'mon guys, nail this sucker and get him to squawk!"
Jul 1, 2020 9:37 pm
Hank glances back and forth between Petrovich and Lance. "You're right... Look, Vic. Whaddaya say we just cut the bullshit? You know as well as we do that you don't want the feds coming in here and asking a bunch of questions. It'd be a pain in the ass for everyone involved, but sooner or later history would come up.

They'd learn the ancient history of your under-the-table deals and letting cons out of work details early. They'd learn the more recent history of a bunch of masked criminals attacking our legitimate business and putting the lives of civilians and the mayor at risk. And then there's that classic of modern history, a favorite of mine, 'The Goddamn Crooked Cop Was Too Stupid to Check for Cameras When He Bought the Masks for His Criminal Conspiracy.' I hear they're making that one into a movie."

Hank gives a winning smile to Petrovich. "So what do you say, officer? Want to tell us what your friends are up to?"
OOC:
Is it worth a boost or two to call out the camera and what we already know? Also taking the boost from Lance.
OOC:
GM edit: The masks thing definitely stoked a couple of his motivations. Adding in the modifiers accordingly.
