[IC] Sudden Payback (Session 2)

Hank senses Petrovich tense up at the mention of the masks. But then the shit-eating grin is back, accompanied by a belly laugh. "Who's to say I wasn't buying masks for my niece's pony party?" he says with a shrug. "As for the work details and prisoners going free... I think Lance'll have to answer that. I was just as surprised as anyone when Lance and Jimmy and Fatima ran away. You just ran away on your own. Didn't you, Lance?"
OOC:
Another SP flip, boost from his cronies.

Coercion on Lance

2 Success, 6 Advantage, 4 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 2 Advantage

OOC:
Don't forget that Hank takes 2 strain for failing the social check (social combat rules).

Lance inadvertently reveals his Strength for Petrovich's 2 advantage. I swear, both these guys are on the verge of running out of Strain. :O
"I'm a survivor, Petrovich. I ain't stupid."
OOC:
Consider that an assist from Lance to the next social check.

"Nobody said anything about Fatima, there, chief. Although now that you mention it, she was another con on your work detail, wasn't she? Another person a little too strong-willed to push around, so she had to disappear. So you and the hounds had to make an example out of her, like you tried to do with Lance here. Which her friends are none too happy about, from what we hear. I'm sure they'd be happy to wipe that stupid smile off your face."

Hank places his hand on a barbell standing in the rack, trying to keep his cool despite the strain of staring down Petrovich. This man is an embodiment of everything wrong with Drummond, from his corruption to his patronizing smile to his willingness to exploit those weaker than him. It's guys like you that broke my dad and drove him to the bottle. I'll be damned if I'm gonna let you keep on ruining my town while I'm drawing breath.

"And by the way, you're not as smooth as you think you are. Your niece's pony party? Not unless your niece was a 28-year old man with a hard-on for cattle prods. Your goons had the receipt on them, so your prints are all over this criminal enterprise. I'm tired of pussyfooting around with a slimy lowlife. We've wasted too much breath on you already. Just tell us where your friends took Fatima and the others. You're not getting out of this clean, Vic, but there's no reason anybody else has to get hurt."
OOC:
Not sure if this mechanically does anything, but I pulled on a couple of my motivations for my thought process here (Fear for my family and Flaw of a soft spot for others. I could also argue Strength of Relentless because we keep poking holes in his alibi, but that seems like overkill).

Also flipping a story point. I think flipping a story point when I'm already at YY adds another G to the roll. If not, we can just ignore the green die I suppose.

Also, wouldn't turn down somebody adding a boost if they can.

OOC:
Kermit, feel free to add +1 boost on your own to start. Calling him out for the Fatima + receipt slip-ups is good for poking holes in his façade here.

By RAW, playing to your own motivations doesn't add boosts, as I suppose the devs feared that might invite abuse (not saying you did that, mind you -- the flipside is that appealing to motivations makes for rounded characters). But yeah, another PC can add a boost if they want, but I think Max is the only other person in the scene, and I'm not sure if Remnant's around at the moment.

"Well I don't know about all the things consenting adults would do in that situation... But there's evidence and forensics that paint a different view than you are discussing Mr. P. But technically the correctional officer on duty would have to answer for that point of negligence on their job especially for letting people escape and not reporting it. Also if someone has known for some time via your recent admission to the escape and people are under duress if they turn themselves in due to coercion it gets more complicated for people that aren't the escaped prisoner involved... and yes I am new out of the academy... It's literally Law Enforcement training that you go through plus I got my degree in criminal law, so if there is evidence and propel cause of suspicions I'm going to have to ask you some questions also Mr. P. If we see two and you mention three is there a fourth? Fifth? Are they being held against their will someplace or are you involved with unlawful undocumented detainments? I mentioned Marshals for a reason you know once you leave the facility you have no jurisdiction. I don't know what the smiling attitude is about since this might actually be some serious charges that could lead to jail time Sir if things are checked into." Max adds with a shrug putting away his notepad and pen with a frown, "It literally sounds like there's a string of people that were in jail you have involved yourself with that you had no connection to that aren't where they should be and by your own admission have known their locations for some time and haven't reported for some reason. Considering your background you should know it is chargeable but haven't for some reason. Did you want to let us know as to why? On a side note from an auditing perspective this would make for a good term paper."
OOC:
Update: Maybe an boost die for a teacher's pet of knowledge on the situation.

OOC:
So, motivational stuff, plus Max's boost added to the above roll. They came out a wash anyway.

OK, that's 2 success + 2 threat thanks to his special ability. For the threat, Hank can tell that things are at a tipping point, so he takes 2 strain.
Petrovich's grin turns to a grimace just like that. He glances at Max with a quizzical look, then returns his gaze to Lance. His minions move closer as their boss makes a final threat: "This is last chance, Lance. Come clean about what really happened or pay the price."
OOC:
So, that pushes Lance over the limit. (The cronies add +1 success when boosting his Coercion checks.) 3 Threat to you to spend before that happens. You can use it to learn his Desire or Fear, or, perhaps more useful, learn his true motivation for this encounter. Or do something else with it creative. Once we resolve that, we can move to a new phase...

Pausing here until we spend Petrovich's 3 threat.
Lance heaves a sigh, about to speak.
Jul 7, 2020 12:00 pm
OOC:
Maybe one of the cronies adds in a smack talking line not reading the situation fully and says something slipping on the knowledge like, 'Yeah you're going to end up in the warehouse on Greenlane like the other losers like Fatima and R-', Vic backhands the man in the face lightly before he starts naming off other people... XD
Jul 7, 2020 12:04 pm
"I would advise going through the right channels currently being detained against your will by prison guards when not at a facility is outside the scope of their jurisdiction. Legally speaking, besides saying things under duress doesn't hold up in court and can be thrown out..." Max pipes up the last part he says shaking his head, "Ah, do these guys even understand how to the judicial system works..." he mutters to himself coming to the realization they may not.
Jul 7, 2020 12:10 pm
OOC:
Maybe I missed something... I thought Vic came in alone (and I remember locking the door behind him), but now his cronies are in here with him? No worries if it's just a retcon, but I'm confused.

Remnant's suggestion would be HUGE if it's feasible. If not, getting his motivation or an extra 3 strain for Vic would also be good.
Jul 7, 2020 12:41 pm
OOC:
I let in two guys before hand who called Vic to our location, one had a tweaked shoulder from shoving stuff or slamming into it.
Jul 7, 2020 1:10 pm
OOC:
Ah, ok. I didn't realize they stayed while he was on the way, but that makes sense.
Jul 8, 2020 2:26 am
OOC:
OK, getting the warehouse location is too much for 3 threat (more worthy of a Despair I think), but we riff on that idea to have them reveal that there's a factory in play somehow.
The two large men regard Petrovich carefully. One of them says, "Sir, should we take care of them and take them to the old factory?"
Jul 8, 2020 2:27 am
Petrovich holds up a finger and spins toward the other man. "Shut up, you idiot! I have no idea what you are talking about!" He turns back again to Lance, all grins. "Besides, Lance Mikowski here was about to say something."
Jul 8, 2020 2:31 am
Lance heaves a huge sigh, hunches over. You can tell he's done with this. "What is it you want me to say, Petrovich?" The gym owner leans on the ropes at the edge of the ring. "You want me to say that I escaped from a prison detail? That it was all my idea and you had nothing to do with it? Is that what it's gonna take to get you to leave me alone? To leave this gym alone? Maybe to free all the people you've kidnapped? OK then. Fine. I ran from prison. Take me away."
Jul 8, 2020 2:35 am
"Yes!" Petrovich claps his hands so loud it echoes through the gym. He leans in toward one of his two enforcers and taps his chest. "You hear that out there? He confessed!" Then he turns back to the rest of you. "I hope you'll agree go quietly when police get here."

Outside on the roof, Marv sees a siren light up about a block away, then another and another. The three cop cars barrel toward the gymnasium.

"Under duress and he's talking about kidnapping and illegally detaining people. The police have been here the whole time!" Max states shocked by the levels of stupidity by the visitors pointing from Victor to his associate while slapping his police patch onto his chest and pulling his badge holder from under his vest.
