Marv's gaze flashes from the lights in the distance back to the scene inside the gym. He takes hold of the rope tied to the top of the skylight and prepares himself. "Looks like it's finally showtime." He says.

OOC:
Eskaton, if it makes more sense to roll Vigilance (you're not privy to the goings on inside), feel free to do that.

I'll post the final order and start the battle later tonight!
Jul 10, 2020 3:27 am
OOC:
Jimmy gets an initiate slot, too. Looks like he gets to go first! (Eskaton, you're still welcome to preroll with Vigilance if you want. We can move a PC slot up if you roll better).
Jimmy stands up from the weight bench and seems to weigh his options. "I am not going back to jail." He picks up a barbell and holds it like a baseball bat. "Soon as the exit's cleared, I'm out of here."
OOC:
First PC is up!

Guy has a crazy idea. He jumps into his car and rams into the van stationed outside eavesdropping on the gym. This should disrupt their recording of any ensuing fights, maybe grab the recordings if he can, and slow the police by putting a traffic accident in their way.
OOC:
Let me know if I need to roll anything. I'm guessing it isn't too hard to drive into a stationary vehicle but maybe an attack roll for the vehicle or something?

The plan is sound, but the problem is that we're in structured time now, and you're nowhere near the car. Your car is outside, so you're looking at eight maneuvers or so just to get into the car and turn it on. By the time you do that, the combat is likely to be over.

BUT! Guy's been pretty much absent during this whole parley. If you want, we can retcon:

Flip 1 SP: We can retcon Guy as having been waiting outside the gym, by the parking spots. That puts you four maneuvers (two rounds) away from being able to drive the car (engage with car, open door, sit down, turn on car).

Flip 2 SPs: We retcon to say Guy has been chilling in his car. You can turn the ignition for 1 maneuver and then start moving toward the van.

JK! Marv was hardly paying attention the whole time. "Wonder what those lights are about?" He says as he stalks to the skylight, grabbing hold of the rope as he sees Petrovich's stance shift from conversational to belligerant.

LOL. You were paying attention, just not to the exact moment things would go sour in the building. :P

So, same initiative order, but Marv gets a free maneuver for that Triumph!

We can move forward once nezzeraj decides on flipping the SPs or staying in the gym on foot.

OK! So I wasn't intending for the cop cars outside to get into the fray until the end of the first round, but if Guy is outside crashing into them, they need an initiative slot. Here goes...

OK, so if Guy wants to ram the surveillance van, that's going to be two maneuvers of Acceleration, and the Dangerous Driving action: Roll Driving vs. RP (upgraded with a SP, and difficulty based on the silhouette of the vehicle driven). Your headlights negate any darkness penalties.

Basically, you're gonna have to peel out, do a quick, tire-squeaking 90-degree turn, hop the curb, and ram into them. So do it!
Jul 14, 2020 11:40 am
Guy has a short window to surprise the van before they can respond. He spins around, tires squealing, aiming for the parked van!

I'll only spend a maneuver if I need to to open the skylight or have the rope in my hand, otherwise, I don't have anything to aim and certainly aren't making my big entrance just yet.

The sedan goes flying across the parking lot, across the sidewalk, and over the curb. Guy seems to have misjudged the angle, though. The car flies right past the surveillance van and onto the curb on the opposite side. It'll take some doing to get the car free of the curb.
OOC:
For the 2 threat, the car hits the opposite curb and will require an additional maneuver next turn to get free.
Suddenly, Hank finds himself being pawed at by both of Petrovich's enforcers. "We must restrain you. Do not resist." One of the meatheads gets his paws on Hank and puts the man into a headlock. Hank kicks the second one away, preventing him from getting a good grip.
OOC:
Both engage with Hank for a maneuver and attack with Brawl (Grappling). The first does 6 damage before Soak and has an advantageous position over Hank. The second missed. Will use the Triumph to give Petrovich back some strain, and the 2 advantage to do the same.

3 Threat, though. What's it used for?

"Hank, Are you being restrained against your will without legal justification to do so." Max asks calmly watching trying to get a hold of the full situation.
Jul 15, 2020 5:46 pm
"You're the legal expert, chief, but you bet your ass I wasn't asking for a headlock!" Hank shifts his weight, trying unsuccessfully to extract himself.
OOC:
Looking at the list of uses, looks like I could upgrade my next grapple check against this guy for 2. Maybe we can pass a boost to the next PC with the other? Saying that they're distracted by Hank's shouting which creates an opening for someone else?
Jul 15, 2020 6:18 pm
OOC:
Slight correction: Looks like 2 threat lets you downgrade the difficulty, not upgrade your skill check. And the going rate for Threats to translate to boosts or setbacks is 2 per boost or setback, so your best bet with the final 1 threat is probably to strain this guy.
Seeing his henchmen go into action, Petrovich lets out a loud whoop! Shaking his head like a boxer who's just taken a jab, he seems to be re-energized by the violence. "This guy always talk so much?" he asks, fists up and moving into striking range of Max. The guard's meaty fists nearly find Max's face, and Petrovich gives out another whoop! with a grin. Max manages to ward off the sucker punch, though...
OOC:
7 damage to Max (before Soak). He'll crit upgrade Max's next check for the Triumph, and use the advantage to regain strain.

95 = "At the Brink" (Hard [PPP] to heal): Target suffers 2 strain each time they perform an action.
Up on the roof, Marv notices two cop cars whizz by. One stops right outside the front entrance with screeching tires, while the other pulls up by the blocked alleyway, stopping just outside the dumpster that was placed there.

I'll use Unarmed Parry after Soak so Damage goes From 7>3>0. Unsure if the crit would still apply.

OOC:
Ah, right you are. Parry costs you 3 strain, but it reduces the damage enough that Petrovich does no damage and cannot crit. However, he does get to use his Triumph for something else, so we'll instead say it upgrades Max's next check. (I'll modify the narrative above to reflect the fact that Max parried.)

3 PCs are still up!

Hank unhooks the weighted chain from his belt and wraps it around the cops wrist quickly, before shifting his weight and pivoting to twist the man's arm and spin away.
OOC:
Dang. Extra successes don't do anything when you're escaping, do they? So I don't do damage or anything?

I guess I'm not quite clear on grappling. So I'd do damage if I were gaining the advantage, but not when escaping, right? So that's an incentive to fight for the upper hand rather than try to escape. It just seems like trying to grapple with 2 of these guys is a very risky proposition.

Anyway, that's 1 threat.

And now that I've got my chain out, I've got defensive 1, and it gives me a boost to grapples.

OOC:
No, success both does damage and moves you one step along the superior/advantageous/disadvantageous/inferior chain of control. However, these guys have two ranks in Grappling and Adversary 1, so that roll needs to be versus RRPP (since you downgrade that once due to previous dice results). I'll re-roll the second die (purple) to make it red:
Hank manages to escape the enforcer's control, twisting the guy's arm in the process. The custodian feels his shoulder pull as he does so. that smarts.
OOC:
OK, 1 threat = 1 strain to Hank. You're back in a neutral position versus this guy. 6 damage to him before soak.

Two more PCs, go!
