OOC:
You should get an additional boost for the Knockdown (he's narrative ly kneeling but should be mechanically prone).
Jul 30, 2020 5:40 pm
OOC:
Thanks updated rolls above
Jul 30, 2020 7:46 pm
OOC:
I had't been using the flanking rules, but they seem simple enough: Ganging up on the same target in melee gives you a free upgrade for every ally also ganged up on them, max 2 upgrades. In this case, Max, Duke, and Marv are all engaged with Petrovich, so that grants +2 auto upgrades on him.

3 threat = Duke is now prone, too.
Petrovich seems shocked as Duke sinks his teeth into the man's arm, distracting him as Max returns a kick. The man seems distracted, but he pulls so furiously against Duke's teeth that he pulls the dog onto its side, sweeping the pup across the floor Hank so carefully waxed only hours before.

From near the back door, you hear someone swear, "Ah, f—" but the sound is stifled for some reason.
Jul 30, 2020 8:01 pm
Jimmy lets out a whoop! as he leaps over the sudsy puddle, grabs the first cop through the door, and slams their head down on his knee. The officer drops to the ground, motionless. Jimmy looks back over his shoulder. "Uh, fellas, why you suppose these cops is wearin' gas masks?"
OOC:
Will crit for the Triumph (dropping one cop). Then do 5 damage with the knee, with Pierce 2.
OOC:
A PC is up. Note that Petrovich has lots of temporary penalties that end once he takes his turn, so it might make sense for Marv or Max (plus Duke) to go next and take advantage.

Rolls

Brawl (Striking) knee

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 1 Triumph, 2 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph

Jul 30, 2020 8:42 pm
OOC:
Gonna take advantage while Petrovich is still on the ground and snag this slot.
"Animal cruelty!" Marv shouts, standing over Petrovich, "Assaulting a superior officer! You got that on tape, goon squad!?" Marv yells at Petrovich, "Hope you're still recording. I want a highlight reel when this is all said and done!"

Marv snarls at Petrovich on the ground, "Hope you're feeling bulky, cause I'm freakin FULL of cheeseburgers, baby. EXTRA HEAVY!"

He jumps and comes down hard with his knee on Petrovich.
OOC:
Net 3 success 5 advantage on my attack for 7 damage 2 pierce, I'll use 4 advantage to crit and one to pass 1 boost. That success on the previously passed boost should either add 1 damage to Max's attack or make Duke's attack a success depending on which roll it would have applied to.

Rolls

Flanking prone knee while berserking and with 2 aim (automatic 1 S 2 A)

3 Success, 5 Advantage, 1 Failure, 1 Threat

Total: 2 Success, 4 Advantage

I think the setback was actually on my last check and should be spent, but in case it's not

I also passed a boost to the next player on my last turn that Max didn't roll

1 Success

Total: 1 Success

Jul 31, 2020 2:11 am
OOC:
Ah, it should've been a boost to Duke, which would have made Duke's attack a success, and thereby activated Duke's "pack instincts" ability that passes 2 advantage to the next ally attacking the same target, which would have allowed Max to crit. Let's say that Petrovich stays prone, but I'll crit him twice (once the crit Max would have gotten, the second Marv's crit). (Incidentally, feel free to do your own d100 rolls for crits when you roll them.)

96 = crippled (Hard [PPP]): one of the target's limbs is impaired until the injury is healed. Difficulty of all checks using that limb are increased by one.

51 = fearsome wound (Average [PP]): target increases difficulty of Presence and Willpower checks by one until the injury is healed.
Marv comes down hard, right on Petrovich's face. The man screams in pain as he spits out a tooth and a good ounce of blood. Meanwhile, Duke's jaws continue to make short work of the man's arm. "Get them now!" he gurgles to his men as he pulls himself back to his feet. Reduced to kicking now, he makes another attack on Marv, but the leg goes right over the smaller man's head.
OOC:
So, with that crit, he'd get an automatic difficulty increase to Brawl in vanilla Genesys. I'm going to rule that he can kick without the penalty, though, simply because this seems more genre appropriate to action-fighting flicks. Someone gets a limb crippled, so they have to use an attack without that limb. In this case, the Kick attack costs strain to use, so it's a tradeoff I think balances out in this setting.

And... that's a miss! 1 Threat to you all. Strain him? Something else?

Rolls

crit 1 - (1d100)

(96) = 96

crit 2 - (1d100+10)

(41) + 10 = 51

Brawl (Striking): Kick w/aim

3 Success, 2 Advantage, 3 Failure, 3 Threat

Total: 1 Threat

Heh. Sounds like your boss is having a bad night over there, Hank says to the man grappling with him.
OOC:
I say strain him. If we can force him to use advantages on something other than boosts and crits, all the better for us.
Jul 31, 2020 1:56 pm
The man's buddy hurls himself into Hank and twists the man's other arm. "Is not so bad to get blood circulating." The man can't seem to get the right leverage over Hank as he and his ally both try to topple the large man. In their scuffling, though, the group pushes Hank up against a weight rack—hard. The rack falls over, sending free weights crashing to the ground and knocking Hank down to take the brunt of their weight.
OOC:
Grapping + flank w/his buddy.

Failure, but again 1 threat. Ideas on using it? Scratch that. Petrovich adds +1 advantage, nullifying that threat. I've got an idea for the Triumphs. ;D One will knock Hank prone, the second will dump some weights on his head...

That's 7 damage to Hank pre-soak.

Rolls

Brawl (Grappling) + Flank

2 Success, 3 Advantage, 2 Triumph, 4 Failure, 4 Threat

Total: 2 Failure, 1 Threat, 2 Triumph

weights fall on Hank - (1d10)

(7) = 7

Jul 31, 2020 5:05 pm
The second grunt takes advantage of Hank being on the ground. With shades focused on Hank's legs, he tries to keep the man on the ground to open the door to some pummeling. As they scuffle, Hank finds it too much to avoid the man's grapple with the weights falling all around him, and he finds himself practically pinned.
OOC:
5 damage to Hank pre-Soak. 4 advantage thanks to Petrovich. Will use 3 advantage to automatically take the Superior Position over Hank (auto-upgrade attacks on Hank and from Hank on this guy). 1 advantage used to pass a boost to this guy's next ally.

Will post next bad guy move when I get a sec.

Brawl (Grappling) + Flank + Aim + Prone + SP

4 Success, 6 Advantage, 3 Failure, 3 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 3 Advantage

Muffled by a gas mask, a voice from the hallway curses. "C'mon, man, seriously? You really want us to fill this place with gas?" The figure pushes through the three other police to flank Jimmy and attack him with a few body blows. Jimmy wheezes in pain, clutching his side and gasping for breath.
OOC:
2 success, 5 advantage. That's 6 damage and 2 Stun Damage to Jimmy before Soak. Crit for 4 advantage.

93 = At the Brink (Hard [PPP]): Target suffers 2 strain each time they perform an action until crit is healed.

Rolls

Brawl (Striking): Body Shot w/passed boost

2 Success, 9 Advantage, 1 Failure, 3 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 6 Advantage

forgot flank

1 Success, 1 Advantage

Total: 1 Success, 1 Advantage

critical hit - (1d100)

(93) = 93

Jul 31, 2020 7:00 pm
The three police take advantage of Jimmy's predicament and beat him with truncheons. "Stop resisting!"
OOC:
That's 6 damage before soak, and enough to crit...

Forgot they get another setback for the suds in the hallway, which saves Jimmy's bacon (from damage and crit). Net result is 4 advantage. They'll use it to take a free maneuver, disengaging from Jimmy, and passing a setback to Jimmy.

Rolls

Melee + Aim + passed boost + flank

1 Success, 7 Advantage, 3 Threat

Total: 1 Success, 4 Advantage

crit - (1d100+10)

(38) + 10 = 48

forgot their setback for being in the hallway still

1 Failure

Total: 1 Failure

The shuffle of boots announces the arrival of four more police at the far end of the gymnasium floor, apparently the group that busted in through the front. They're all wearing gas masks.
OOC:
Locks and traps kept these folks back for a while, but they're all at Short range to you now, at opposite ends of the gym.

Finally, a PC is up! (Whew.)

"Thanks for the backup! Lance Mikowski, Jimmy Crowder you're under arrest for a possible 4901 Prisoner Escaped from prison, I'm detaining you until it can be verified and you can be transferred over to the US Marshalls unless the DA wants to talk to you. Victor Petrovich, and guys number one and two man handling and molesting a middle aged man get up. Two counts of a 1006 attempted abduction, admission to knowingly letting prisoners escape and not reporting it, admission to multiple counts of possible 1006s abduction and kidnapping along with 2101s and 2103s as well as false imprisonment. Assault and battery with intent to maim. Victor Petrovich specifically assault and battery with intent to harm and maim a law enforcement officer multiple times. Conspiracy to cause general mayhem, property damage, and bodily harm to a public civil servant and the general populace. Conspiracy linked to possible Human Trafficking. Also I should call Captain Karen Guerriero and let her know I made my first arrests..." Max states clearly in a loud voice. "You're all under ARREST as stated don't resist. Once they're in cuffs don't forget the Mirandas." he adds and looks at Duke and nods before calling it in.
OOC:
Let me know what I have to roll.
Aug 3, 2020 1:15 pm
Lemme up, you goon! Hank pauses, then when the man doesn't move he shifts his weight suddenly and launches his knee into the man's groin.
OOC:
Well, it didn't succeed, but can we treat the Triumph as a big opening, and I escape to a neutral position? The grappling breakdown doesn't cover how you can use triumphs for failed attacks, but it makes sense to me to basically reverse one of the uses of a despair.
OOC:
GM edit: Missed a boost passed from Marv.

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Triumph, 1 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Threat, 1 Triumph

boost

2 Advantage

Total: 2 Advantage

OOC:
Kermit, check the "spending Advantage etc. during Grappling Checks" table. A Triumph can always let you do a "Reverse," which lets you move into an Advantageous position regardless of your current status. Seems appropriate here. I'm guessing you used a maneuver to stand up?

I'll strain Hank for the threat.
As Hank turns the tables on his aggressor, Max's words seem to cause the six police officers to pause. They blink and look at each other, perhaps a bit unsure...
OOC:
Remnant, Max can try a RRP Deception check or a PPP Leadership check to convince the cops that he's on their side. (There's no chance Petrovich, Lance, or Jimmy will bite.) 2 boosts: one for your armor, one for your legal-ese. If you want to sacrifice Duke's turn, that's worth a third boost. This won't end the encounter, but it will mean they won't target Max unless he gives them a reason to do so.
Aug 4, 2020 1:13 am
OOC:
Nice! Yeah, I'll do those two things.
Aug 4, 2020 12:47 pm
OOC:
Guess I'm going for a hail Mary so I can get Petrovich and goons down and in cuffs. Upgraded with Story Point.

Rolls

Hard Leadership Check with Boosts x3

2 Success, 3 Advantage, 2 Failure, 2 Threat

Total: 1 Advantage

Aug 5, 2020 12:28 am
The police shake their gas-mask-wearing heads. "Surrender immediately, or we'll have to assume you're helping the convicts," they tell him.
OOC:
Kermit: You missed a boost passed by Marv, which actually gives you a net 1 advantage on that reverse.

Guy's up!
Aug 5, 2020 1:17 pm
OOC:
Sweet... Healed strain.
Aug 5, 2020 1:18 pm
OOC:
fyi I got a goose egg since that failed it's 0 cross the board I think.
