As the boar ventures out from the center of the three hills, it moves over into the very copse of trees which the three champions just pulled their great spike from... You can get a good look at it from behind the ruined walls near the edge where you're looking to construct your trap. Having just walked amongst the area, you can get a very good judge of it's size, and it is truly gigantic. No natural beast...

It snuffles around at the ground some, then snorts up into the wind... and then it looks in your direction, forcing you all to retreat. It doesn't appear to have spotted you, as it just begins to wallow anew, and you did get a good look...

OOC:
Ok, so, it's pretty out in the open now. It will be much easier for it to spot you, any time you're moving around up on that level of the steppes. Is there any other actions you want to take before constructing your trap? If you can think of a logical narrative, you can make a "lead-up" Skill check to the actual construction to try to gain a mechanical boost of some sort? Though, as with all Skill checks, you could end up with negative consequences too...

OOC:
I can't think of anything that would (quietly) help with the mechanics check. One of you guys can go ahead and roll it. That boar is awesome!

Capaneus clenches his jaw and suppresses a shiver of fear, "That is a mighty beast indeed." He looks at the tusks jutting out from either side, "It looks a difficult feat for him to traverse narrow gaps. Should our initial plan of attack prove difficult, we should try to lure him to one of these gaps. If one of us is brave enough to risk it, we may want to bait them in advance with some foraged grub. What say you?"

OOC:
Are there any buildings taller than the boar?
Charisteas considers Capaneus' proposal, "That might work, but considering the size of the thing we'd need a hell of a lot of grub to do so...unless...maybe if you to lie in wait, ready to pounce, I can lure it here...". Charisteas looks both determined and frightened at the prospect of facing the boar 1 on 1, but as an athlete...well, former athlete, he feels confident that while he might not be able to outrun it in the long run, a short term sprint might be doable

"Once we have the spike in place, I will mount the ruins to try and leap to his back if our plan works. You're probably right about the grub, not worth the time or trouble. Let's finish getting this log in place and you can try to lead him to the trap."

OOC:
Sounds like good stuff. You guys ready to roll the mechanics check to construct the thing?

Pagoni talks while they work "I don't mind being the bait, assuming I cant get the creature to follow me, I've had worse roles before.
OOC:
I'll go ahead and roll to keep things moving (no one has any ranks in the skill, so I'm adding one boost die per player assisting:

Rolls

Hard Group Mechanics check

1 Success, 5 Advantage, 1 Failure, 4 Threat

Total: 1 Advantage

Jun 23, 2020 2:38 pm
OOC:
Any ideas for how you'd like to spend your Advantage? Some recommendations would be, you construct it quickly, or quietly, or maybe it's reinforced well so that you could potentially get more than one use out if it?
The three champions prop up the log, and hone it to a bit more of a point. It's hard to know if it's adequate for their needs. But it's done, and it remains upright.
OOC:
Unless you spend the Advantage to construct it quickly, I'll be rolling another luck die to determine what the boat is doing as you complete it.

OOC:
I guess quietly? I don't want him coming over before everyone is in position

OOC:
Sounds good. I'll roll the luck die, but at least noticing the construction won't be a possible result.

Narrative pending, standby.
You can hear from below, as though it sounds like the boar has moved amongst the nearby ruins.

if the trap is all set, I'm thinking I'll get the boar to chase me, run past the log, and hope the boar impales itself. Then we can jump on it, or attack it after we see what happens?

OOC:
Just so we're all on the same page, based on Cap's sketch, I got the impression that the spike trap was built at the base of the cliff, on the other side of a wall (or arches or pillars), with the spike pointed up and toward the cliff. And that, therefore, the way in which it was designed to be used was by running the boar over the edge somehow/it falling on the spike from above.

If you guys want it to be a thing where it runs into it, headlong, i.e. laterally, that's fine. That just wasn't my understanding. Please clarify the group understanding/desire before we move forward.

OOC:
oh man, that sounds way better than what I was thinking. So my character can still lead the boar (unless we can chase it, haha) towards the trap, but it will just work different then I thought?
Jun 23, 2020 10:12 pm
OOC:
em squared is exactly right as far as what I meant. Get the boar to crash through the wall and impale itself. I don't mind standing on the wall and throwing rocks or something at it to come crashing at me (personally thought the bait would act from the top of the wall to give them vantage to leap and for the boar to crash through)
Jun 23, 2020 11:01 pm
OOC:
This is going to be awesome! Now I can't stop thinking of the Kool-Aid man. So how do we start? get on the wall and start yelling? If that doesn't work, I can have my character make himself seen, and try and lure the boar over.
Jun 23, 2020 11:11 pm
OOC:
Let's get in character to discuss this?

"I'll climb the ruin just above the log." Cap points to the wall he's talking about, "I'll start calling my best boar call to see if I can get it riled up. Should he need a bit of extra encouragement it may be wise for you two to throw stones or something at it from hidden places to draw it's attention. once it starts charging I, and as many as are foolish enough, will leap from the wall to its back while the rest of us try to disable it from the ground. What say you? Shall any of you join me on the top of the wall?"

I'm not sure what I'll do when the fighting starts, but whatever it is, I'll probably do it better on the ground. Perhaps I'll do my best to keep it distracted.
Jun 24, 2020 12:33 pm
"So I shouldn't just bait it by letting it see me and then run? What happens when the boar crashes into the wall that you're standing on top of?"
