I have a question? For Arcane backgrounds, I see Miracles and Blessed. What are the differences?

I believe "Blessed" replaces "Miracles". In the Deadlands: Reloaded book under the section about edges, the first paragraph or two tells you what edges have been replaced from the base game of Savage Worlds Deluxe and what they've been replaced with, if anything.

Uh well -- I did not read them just copied and pasted the list -- however it appears for Deadlands the Blessed is what is used instead of Miracles -- although this might be a means to get around that Piety issue someone was having

I have updated the posted information

Ah found it. I didn't have my book before. the Deadlands: Reloaded book just uses "Arcane Background: Miracles". I don't see a mention of "Blessed" being it's own background, except that people who take the "Miracles" background are called "Blessed". Sorry, didn't have my book with me when I posted before.

I have both of the Deadland:Reloaded Complete Compendiums for Hindrances and Edges and that is where I got the Arcane Background (Blessed) form. However as I stated when I posted it initially I had not read it so did not see that it stated it replaced the Arcane Background (Miracles)

Still like I said perhaps for one of the characters using this Arcane Background (Miracles) might be the way to go and call them the Not-So-Blessed ;) or Heavenly-Burdened or some other name that reflects these sorry folk who are not so happy about being one of Gods chosen ones

Hey guys, wanted to say that those of you who do not have a copy of the Deadlands Reloaded PDFs could get it legitimately, for free, directly from Pinnacle Entertainment (the guys who made the game). You will still need the Savage Worlds Deluxe book to run the game, but you can get the Deadlands Reloaded Players guide and Marshal's Handbook here

Thank you, Butcherbird, for pointing out a way to acquire the books that is legal. I know that there are places to get it free of charge, but I appreciate you ensuring the legality of your method.

Is everyone doing okay and/or need anything from me at this point?

Well, I think the only thing left for me to do is figure out how my character is involved with the party. He's been traveling from Arkansas with his trusty mule, Victoria. I'm open to suggestions on how the party comes together.

I was thinking most of us could be gambling buddies. Burke and Marie could've run cons and card-sharked together, and could've met Callum that way. Not sure how to fit HoorayRat's character in, though.

Well if that's how we're going about it, I'd say the simplest way would be that Callum and Amos met each other beforehand, then met up with Burke and Marie. So two pairs of traveling partners becomes a posse of four.

Sure, I'm ok with that. Preacher Burke has been saddled (excused the pun) with some new powers/responsibilities, meets a friend in town, they decide to spend an evening/dinner/drinks with a mutual acquaintance who has brought a new traveling partner, and then...story happens?

Okay reviewing the backgrounds before I make suggestions and using the suggestion by Butherbird I have the following connections that I will tentatively be weaving -- please let me know if you have any objections to these...

Amos - knows, worked with and is friends with - Callum - who in turn knows and is friends with - Burke - who in turn knows and is friends with - Marie

This way there is no disconnection within the group and everyone has someone that someone else knows that can vouch for them. Again I plan to be weaving the stories a bit more together to develop these backgrounds as well as to build a collective purpose for staying together.

Next before I continue forward -- does anyone not wish to have their background shared -- I know some of you have posted them privately to me but I think most players can handle the information without it meta-gaming it ;)

Well, if you feel it won't cause issues, I suppose I see no problem with sharing the stories.

I have read all the backgrounds and do not see anything out right hit you the face needs to be utterly secret from the other players ;) but I always clear things with the players first as that is not my call to make

I'm good for it, I posted the thing pretty publicly :)

Amos Brown was born on May 17, 1850. Parents were Leroy and Henrietta Brown, both slaves on a cotton plantation in Hale County, Alabama. Almost eleven years old when the Civil War started. 1865 slaves were freed, Amos was 15. Amos joined the Confederate Army in 1868. Mother died of illness, father was killed in the war. At the end of the war, Amos heard that there was work to be found on the railroad. Amos plays his father's harmonica. Meets George, who talks Amos into bare knuckle fights for money. Amos is supposed to throw a fight, George tells him to win, George takes the winnings and runs out of Amos. Angry men looking for George and Amos.

Well sounds like Amos could have easily run off when Callum did. Callum also worked for a railroad and left on less-than-pleasant terms, in a way.

That sounds good to me. They ended up on the same box car headed out of town. Amos' tool of the trade is "Henrietta", his 12# spike maul.

Hah. Sounds good. Callums got himself a few shootin' irons and a knife mostly. I think his lever action shotgun is going to be his go-to, however. Speaking of that, I have a question for the GM: Would you allow the use of Shotgun slugs in the game? They have rules in the Savage Worlds, though I think it's Adventure edition (the newest one), so if you don't want to include them, that's totally fine by me. The rules are, they have the same cost/weight as regular shotgun rounds, but they change up the weapon's function. Shotguns using Shells have 3d6-1d6 damage based on range bands, and have a +2 to your Shooting roll to hit. Shotguns using Slugs have 2d10 damage across the board, but no longer gain the +2 to hit, and still use the same ranges as a shotgun (so basically Rifle damage, Pistol range). Now, historically, they did have slugs at the time. They were often used for hunting bears and other massive creatures, so they're safe for the time period. But, again, as they're not in the Deadlands or the Savage Worlds: Deluxe rules, I don't mind if they're left out entirely. Was just a thought.
