OOC:
seems we've stalled a bit here... There's no other opening in this room apart from the one we came in from, correct?
We backtrack to the last junction we passed, keeping a firm hand on the ropes binding our prisoners

OOC:
Correct.
You make your way toward the larger room, where you left the 4 other corpses of the ratmen, the sight of which unnerve the females a bit... Once again, if you hadn't noticed while fighting, there are a variety of projectiles and thrown (poor quality) weapons lined on the walls, some traps seem to have been started, but not finished. It's almost as if the ratmen were preparing this room as some sort of kill room... As you make your way further into that room, you eventually notice two more bodies, wearing the uniform of the sewerworker's guild, stacked in a pile in the middle of the room, near some more traps under construction... almost as if the bodies were to be used as bait for something... What were the ratmen afraid of that they felt they needed a kill room to deal with it?

"Well, either they were very afraid of the giant spider, or we're missing something.."

Cassi says, These creatures are as bad a Kobolds. Appears they have done in the miners. Hopefully we can find some still alive.

Nunri shakes her head. To the female captives she asks, "What was all of this for?" uncertain if they understand her. "Monster?"

Sewer map update.

The female ratkins seem confused at first, but when it becomes clear the party is interested in the kill room, they're starting to figure out that you might be asking what it is for. They start chittering again, nodding their head toward the south-west, since being tied up, they cannot point with their hands.

"They were clearly afraid of something. Could be they were chased by something before ending up here and making their stand. In any case, if its that much of a threat, we'll need to clear it."
Aug 12, 2020 4:26 am
"agreed. Any chance we can finish those traps?"

"I have some skill in trapsetting. We might be able to manage something."

Herradine draws something into the air between herself and the ratfolk.
A large round shape and eight legs growing out of it. Then she looks at the ratfolk with a questioning expression. She really wants to know if they were afraid of the spider or if there's more they should be worried about down here.

Nunri and Toraclis examine the traps and notice they're very primitive affairs. Spiked branches and dropped weights, these sorts of things, all traps which require someone to manually trigger them. Seems like the main obstacle facing the ratmen was lack of resources. They were probably a mismanagement of limited resources. They were probably limited by whatever refuse they could find in the sewer, but by trying to cover as much of the large room with traps as possible, they were always suffering from shortages of resources. You assume that by cannibalizing all the unfinished traps, you could probably finish two of them. Maybe three if you supply the missing resources yourselves.
OOC:
Tell me what you have in mind and we'll see how feasible they are...
As for Herradine, you're waving your hands in the air which confuses the females ratkin as they're not sure what you're trying to convey here... They understand you're trying to communicate with them, it's just that the concept of drawing shapes in the air seems to be beyond them...

"Let's finish the two closest to the entrance. Then we can draw whatever we're having into the room and sorting them."

Nunri looks to the others to find the flaws in her hasty plan.
Aug 12, 2020 3:14 pm
"Nunri, do you think using this one, that one and bits of that other one over there" began Toraclis, pointing at an assortment of half finished contraptions, "we could maybe make a spiked, heavy bar hanging from the ceiling that would drop and hit anything coming from that corridor?"
OOC:
I can picture a sort of spiky tree trunk impaling and bludgeoning an assortment of creatures, swinging like a pendulum from the room's roof to about waist height just inside the corridor.
As for a second one, no ideas yet

OOC:
You don't have a tree trunk to work with, but you could definitely make a spiked "something" which could swing down in the corridor and hit anyone there and be heavy enough to inflict 1d8 damage...
Aug 12, 2020 3:50 pm
OOC:
oh I knew there was no tree trunk, that was just so you could picture what I meant. Bolt some metal together to approach the width of the corridor and have some weight to it, add spikes, and that'd work just as well I imagine.

Nunri agrees and starts to work with Toraclis to set up the deadfall and spike thing.

Herradine gives up trying to communicate with the ratpeople for now. She turns her attention to the others. "If we're building up traps in this room, we still need to get whatever we're trying to catch with them here. Which means one of us has to be bait while the others wait here to trigger the traps and jump the enemy."
Aug 12, 2020 4:34 pm
Cassi says We really don't have time to fool with this. We need to find the rest of miners. This is going to take too much time to deal with. Seems she is rather impatient about this.

Nunri attempts to cobble something up, but with the low-quality crap the ratfolks have been working with, the trap simply fails to work properly (a rope snaps, or a piece breaks or bends, etc.). If you want to try again, you can, but now with the broken parts, you can only make a single trap. Two if the party provides part of their own equipment to build it...
