1.0 - Acquisition: The Hyperdrive Specialist

Mar 5, 2016 3:48 am
Night has fallen, and the heavy, polluted air of Eriadu feels like it too is falling onto your skin, leaving behind who knows what -- a refresher when this job is done is not only mandatory, you’re convinced it will feel great. Not since her time on Nar Shaddaa has Mala been in this compact and urban an environment -- and the others haven’t seen such for even longer. Nonetheless, the job -- and your quarry is here.

It’s not long after the Battle of Yavin, and the planet of Eriadu still appears to be in official mourning for its Moff, and favored son -- Tarkin. During the short time you’ve been on this rock, you’ve heard talk about a memorial for the Grand Moff from all sorts of sources. It’s a given they’ll build something. Hopefully something more tasteful than the statues of Palpatine that now dot Coruscant and many of the Core Worlds.

Arrayed around a bar -- The Lucky Wampa -- some of you with your scanner goggles on, you look around for one Garven Polis. The job, as it came down, seemed straightforward enough: Find Garven Polis and abduct him for a handover on Tatooine. Eriadu’s not far from your home base of Sorocco, and Tatooine is just around the galactic corner -- an easy snatch and grab. No problem. Garven is reportedly an expert in hyperdrive physics or mechanics or some such.

You’ve been on-planet for about five days, scoping out the terrain and getting the lay of the land. The FTY is safely berthed at a moderately respectable star port that charges only slightly scandalous docking fees in return for less than your usual array of questions. Ahkrirar received an encrypted message on his datapad with the name of the Lucky Wampa a few hours ago -- and here you are, outside the Wampa, waiting for your target.
OOC:
Due to your time on planet, you will have some leeway from me (which would normally cost a destiny point) on scenery or setup, etc. Because we’re starting with action, you won’t have time to dictate setup, so I’m giving you some headroom to create it. When you hit my limit, I’ll let you know.

The Wampa is, it appears, something of a military bar. There’s a lot of obvious off-duty Imperial types waltzing into the place and the night is early, so you haven’t seen many come back out again. Zym catches a human matching Garven’s description entering the bar...

Mala has been feeling a little nervous lately -- her searches of the HoloNet have shown some disturbing, to her, queries that seem to suggest someone is taking more than a casual interest in the bounty she knows is on her head. When Mala has the jitters -- the rest of you feel it: you feel less prepared to handle the unexpected; you start watching more for rival bounty hunters; or you begin to worry about whether or not someone is going to plant a tracker -- or worse, explosives -- on the FTY.
OOC:
Mala suffers a reduction of 4 strain from her maximum for this adventure. Everyone else suffers a reduction of 2 from their maximum.

I elbow Ahkrirar, then nod in the direction of the human entering the bar. Then, I pull my robes up tight over my shoulders, get to my feet and start making my way through the bar towards the mark, looking to keep myself unnoticed by him and any who enter in his wake. As I effortlessly weave between the tables, stepping out of the way of a waitress as she delivers a tray of stiff drinks to a table of soon-to-be-rowdy Trandoshans, I make a point of staying out of the newcomers line of sight.

The Trandoshans stand out a bit at the bar, which is heavy on Imperials who have swung by after duty hours to blow off some steam. Zym is able to maneuver carefully though the bar, keeping herself somewhat hidden in the shadows of the bar -- and her cloak -- to avoid calling attention to another nonhuman in the vicinity. Outside of Lin, you will all stand out like a pulsar in this place.

Just as the target begins to look her way, Zym slips behind a man who cuts across Garven's line of sight -- and he looks to be headed that way (we will call this man "Bespin" for now). Bespin stands near Garven for a few moments, before sliding himself into a seat opposite the scientist, and the light reveals that he's wearing the uniform of the Czerka Corporation. Bespin leans in closely to Garven, thoroughly distracting him from all that is around him -- allowing Zym to move about the Wampa freely.

Lin enters the bar separetly from the rest of the crew, either rushing forward and brashly entering (the most likely) or hanging back, then brashly entering.

Lin walks like...not like he owns the place, but like he was thinking of buying it, until he saw the clientele. He's got his Scanner Goggles on and is keeping an eye on the mark, but he makes his way to the bar. "Whaddaya have for Corellian Whiskey? And don't try passing any of that cut rate hooch off on me, I want the real deal." Regardless of what the barkeep has, Lin will accept it, expressing surprise if its actually good and dishing out sarcastic abuse if it isn't. He is loud and abrasive, drawing attention from nearby customers.

His goggles mask his eyes, making it easy to keep an eye on the mark and Zym's progress.
OOC:
Adding a Deception roll in here, Lin's intent is to make himself a target, thus distracting the mark and any potential allys of his. Lin's not a bounty hunter, so he won't be recognized as such by any familiar with the business. Assumed average difficulty.

Mala has taken the precaution to change up her appearance. goggles on, cloth over her mouth, lekku arranged in a different style than usual for her. Mala hangs in the back of the bar, away from the action of the crew in order to not draw any attention to herself in case someone in this bar is looking for her. She is so on edge that she doesn't much pay attention to what the rest of the crew are doing and eyes all the possible entrances and exits out of the bar in case she needs to make a quick escape or to give her a chance to see anyone gunning for her before they see her. She's usually not part of the main operations of the team anyway. Usually when she's brought along on jobs it's to act as an extra set of eyes and to serve as a field medic in case things get too hot or a mark doesn't want to come quietly.

Taking a seat at a table along the west wall, Mala stays vigilant while holding the strap of her utility bag tightly and nervously looking around.

Nodding as Acaatha gives him a heads up he watches as more Imperials move in through the doorway. She's lost in the flow easily enough. As several of the crew enter Akhrirar does oddly the opposite non-nonchalantly walking around the exterior of the building rolling his head and shoulders a bit as he walks trying to loosen up and check for other doors to the establishment.

Turning on his commlink earpiece he inhaled deeply before he spoke to the group. "Okay people this isn't our first time doing this but we got Imperials inside. As usual if you need to call an audible over comms triple key on your comms, if no one says anything after keying we'll figure someone's stuck and get talk or move from where they are, do a sound off so we know who's in a jam. if you can't talk clear your throat when asked something, key twice for yes and once for no." he explained as he licked his lips.

"Acaatha let us know when you have eyes on our quarry. Darek oversight for threats, let us know what you see since you're probably at the bar by now. Doc, you're on electronics for distraction in there if you see an opening where we need a distraction on the electronic side of things see what you can do. Tot look around if we need to get the hell out of here quick and make it to the ship like Imperials are trying to kill us anything to get the target there quick is going to help. Best case I figure we slip something in his drink so he uses the bathroom and we bum rush him out the back after we knock him out. Worst case Lin accidentally starts a bar fight again and we get him out in the chaos and chase down the target while he escapes. Remember Tarkin just died so a round in his memory might go a long way at the right time. I'll be in once I scout the perimeter. It's gametime people lets make that money." he finishes. With his mic off he claps his hands together and rubs them as he looks around to see what he's working with on the perimeter.

Ok... It's Green Mamba in the house... Man I got to get better catch phrases... he thinks to himself before continuing to check out the bar for other exits.

Lin is served a drink by a skeptical, human, bartender. "3 credits" are demanded from the hotshot in exchange for the whiskey that's not that terrible by a long shot. A few of the other patrons -- especially those nearby to Lin glance at him or linger for a longer review. He's clearly new and seems a little loud and brash for this bar at this time of night. The off-duty troops appear to mark him and size him up.

Mala ups the alien-count in the bar by one -- it's now slightly above a handful and she cautiously finds a seat. Distracted, as she is, by the threat of a bounty hunter, she's under more stress than usual and feels distinctly out of place in a bar full of human off-duty Imperials, a handful of Trandoshans and her friends. (Mala takes 1 strain)

Ahkrirar's circuit of the bar is impeded by a couple of humans, "What you looking at buddy?" asks the taller one. They appear to have noticed that he's casing the joint. "Yah. Nice teeth." adds the second one.

Fuzil -- distracted from his tasty meal at the corner of the bar by Ahkrirar's request easily spots the front entrance, and then a door back to the back of the bar -- perhaps for offices or storage or whatnot. Fuzil's pretty suspicious that there will be a rear entrance for deliveries out that way, since the front door looks crowded by tables -- and more and more crowded by people as each minute rolls by.

Lastly, Lin exclaims about something he stepped in and he gets a couple of irate looks thrown his way. Someone nearby says, "Perhaps you stepped in something left behind by those Trandoshans. Why don't you ask them?" It's a transparent bid to let the Trandoshans step on the new guy and leave the regulars alone.
Mar 5, 2016 9:44 pm
Lin looks over at the Trandoshans, and notices that the table right next door is populated by what appears to be four off duty Imperial officers. They are speaking softly, heads together, and casting occasional disapproving looks at the Trandoshans. Lin turns back to the bartender, "Sorry about all the noise, I'm new around here. Listen, let me have five of the same." He lays down a big smile and a healthy tip.

Drinks in hand, Lins whispers into his coms, "Tighten up your wigs ladies, I'm about to stir the pot."

Lin sidles up to the table of officers, "Gentlemen, I'd like to offer you a round of fine Corellian Whiskey as a token of appreciation for all you do for the Galaxy. I'd like to propose a toast, To all the fallen, especially our esteemed Grand Moff Tarkin! May is service be remembered as an example to us all!"

Lin downs half his drink, then turns to leave, weaving a bit as if drunk. He stumbles into the back of one of the Trandoshan's chairs and "accidentally" spills the rest of his drink over the table of lizard men. "Hey!" he yells, "Nobody says that about the Grand Moff! Especially not some dirty lizard!" he's slurring his words as if much drinker than he really is.

Oh no, I'd say that Lin has the distraction department well covered in this case. I'm going to make sure the rear entry is clear. looks like when Lin starts a fight we'll have to grab the mark and make a run for it. I'll get the speeder started

Mala gets up and walks to the back, ostensibly to use the restroom. When she is sure the bar is more focused on Lin's antics than her, she goes about confirming the way is clear and, if so, is going to prop the back door open, warm up the speeder (I'm saying we had one stashed as way of prep for the job) and pulls it around back, ready to gun it as soon as the package is in hand. Judging from the sound of broken glass and angry shouting, not a moment too soon.

Hearing Mala over Comms Akhrirar blinks before addressing the two humans.

"Well I'm guessing I'm looking at two humans who aren't having the best of days and are trying to start something." he starts looking at the taller of the two before addressing the second. "Thanks, you know they're right if you want to take care of them you really need to brush twice a day at least and floss... everyone always thinks it doesn't make a difference but it does."

Not seeing Mala yet he opts to make sure these two humans are looking his way or they'll resolve to be elsewhere, "In any event I kind of know how this usually plays out. But since last time I got a fine for eating a guys kneecap in the middle of a fight I'd figure I'll let you know in advance. Even if it's self defense I'm probably going to get fined. But you two look like you like your kneecaps where they are so I'll ask in advance so there's no confusion afterwards call it a... verbal agreement." he states pulling out his Truncheon and opening his mouth and stretching his jaw, the tendons snapping, "Are we saying good bye and going our seperate ways or am I going to have be having a snack and a fine afterwards?"

"Well there an exit to the front... But looks the the back will be better..." Fuzil thinks to himself as he looks. "Ah... Mala thinks the same thing as I... Hmmm Lin is making another fight distraction... And Akh is making his move..." he looks down to his bowl of stew and then continues to eat.

"I better not let this delightful meal go to waste" he thinks with a smile.

As the situation evolves I position myself as near to the target as possible, preparing to 'escort' him towards the exit, "Keep eyes on the mark, I'm going to 'encourage' him to leave. Same plan as worked on that moon orbiting Rodia..."
OOC:
My plan is to use Misdirection when the fighting starts, if the fighting starts, to make the mark perceive the man across the table as lunging towards him with a suddenly drawn blade. If all goes well, someone in the bar, Lin perhaps, will intercept the 'attacker' with a punch as the commotion starts, and I can offer to guide our mark out the front door...into the hands of Mr Green Undies... Lin drops off his liquor and sets up the bar fight -- but isn't quite on his game. Fretting about whether or not he's slurring sufficiently, or too much, he takes a couple of strain (2 to be precise) as he tries to serve up a table full of Trandoshan's to the bar on Imperials.

The Trandoshan replies to Lin in his own gutteral language, "Back off pink-skin, we've said nothing about the Grand Moff -- who paid for more than one bounty which we have brought to him. The Scorekeeper knows this." The mood around the Trandoshans is mixed at this response. The Imperials to Lin's back stand up and back him up. "Yah, what's that you're saying about the Grand Moff there, scaley?" Tensions have raised, but Lin's acting hasn't quite pushed the bar over the edge.

Mala, meanwhile, makes a safe exit to the back and has an eye on the speeder. She's pretty certain she can here Akhrirar chatting up someone around the corner. The tone seems lightweight -- but, then, they always do for Akhrirar. In this particular case, the Noghri manages to be sufficiently intimidating that the two humans don't even respond to his chatter -- they look at one another and keep walking right around the bounty hunter and on their way, towards the front entrance.

Fuzil enjoys his soup.

Seeing that Akhrirar has his little confrontation under control, Mala hustles to the front parking lot of the bar, shoots a glance at the bounty hunter and pointedly looks at him before saying "better get in there quick. Lin's going to get himself killed. Why that boy can't participate in a single job without starting a fight or setting something on fire I'll never know. Get the mark out now before this job ends up like the one on Naboo"

Mala hops in the landspeeder, starts it up and backs it up to the rear entrance, still nervously looking around for other "unknown quantities"
Mar 8, 2016 1:47 pm
Looking at the backs of the two humans he audibly bites down a few times to remind before Mala came up voicing concerns. Rolling his eyes at the thought of Lin in danger he pursed his lips and his shoulders slumped and he groaned at the mention of Naboo.

"Lin is always almost getting himself killed, that's one of his shticks. Remember the soup last week? Who pours soup in a mug since they don't want to clean the dishes and 'forgets' it's soup and drinks it and damn near chokes to death... while parking the ship. And you can't compare this to Naboo there's no animals to set on fire and send in there... I admit that was a bad idea though and we shouldn't have listened to Lin but we got a free meal out of it since we had to pay for the animal..." Akhrirar mentioned licking his lips... It had been pretty tasty.

"Tot Imma need you to keep an eye or the back area and the Doc she's got the Landspeeder ready to go so pay for your meal and get the rest to go if you can. Coming in through the front, if we need an extract through the front, Mala we'll let you know, you and Tot pick us up on the run. Lin keep your limbs close to your body if you actually get under the Trandoshan's skin and make him mad." Akhrirar states over comms before moving back to the front of the bar with purpose.

Staring at the front he moves in Green Mamba: Stealth Mode he thinks to himself.
