'I do not have the means to fix it right now, but perhaps I can break it in a way it is quiet and difficult to notice if passing?' She suggest as she looks at the hinges of the grate assessing whether pins can be remove, or if they can be quietly broken.

Perception? Investigation one lower - (1D20+3)

(14) + 3 = 17

OOC:
Okay, I’m gonna day that you can definitely see how this door works and thanks to your background you’d be able to take it off its hinges. Give me a straight dexterity check to see how noisy it is. It’s straight because you have advantage as a blacksmith but disadvantage because of its condition

OOC:
Fuck yeah, that’ll do it
Octavia, you take a long, measuring look at the gate. You notice the amount of corrosion around the gate’s hinges and, without using any tools, you apply just the right amount of pressure inwards and then upwards in just the right area and - click! Virtually noiseless you lift the gate fully off its hinges and carefully places it up against the wall.

Octavia, now leading the line, takes a couple of steps out towards the exit but you haven’t even fully left the darkness of the tunnel before you freeze at the sound of voices. "Can’t believe we get put on this shitty assignment along with these...creatures", the voice noticeably lowers in volume with the last word, "who the hell would hide here anyway? What do they expect us to find?" A second voice seems to respond, "No idea, but when she tells you to search the stream...you search the stream...let’s just finish so we can get out of here". You can here that the voices come from the east and are slowly getting closer, as if they’re walking along the stream. You also here some voices further back, laughing in draconic.
May 17, 2020 7:07 pm
Octavia backs back into the tunnel, pressing her back to the wall as a finger goes to her mouth. She listens in, confirming they are aproaching, before looking to the others and mouthing the word 'ambush?'. She slowly draws her spear. Her armour would make too much noise, but she could throw the weapon when the otehrs attacked. Or tehy could wait till the passed the mouth of the tunnel.

Kirsk nods his head as he grips his hammer, then motions to the others to get behind him.
May 18, 2020 5:46 pm
OOC:
Okay, so the plan is to ambush them as they pass? I’ll give the other two some time to respond as well
May 18, 2020 7:48 pm
Zachary takes cover behind Octavia and Kirsk.

With his hand firmly guarding his book, Zachary cannot help but think of the worst possible scenarios, but the determination of his companions comforts him and arms him with courage
OOC:
Sorry, I've been kinda busy lately. I'll check more frequently
May 18, 2020 9:31 pm
OOC:
Don’t worry, life can get busy for us all from time to time
You all hug the wall inside the tunnel as the voices get closer and closer. Two men in black cloaks that have been cut to resemble dragon wings walk past the mouth of the tunnel, shorty followed by four kobolds. They are ostensibly searching the stream as they discussed, but they don’t seem particularly invested in the task or aware of their surroundings which therefore gives you all a chance to surprise them.
OOC:
As mentioned, you get a surprise round as they walk past. I’m going to roll initiative, but that’s only applicable from the following round.

Rolls

Kobolds initiative - (1d20+2)

(12) + 2 = 14

Cultists initiative - (1d20+1)

(10) + 1 = 11

Kirsk initiative - (1d20)

(6) = 6

Kel initiative - (1d20+2)

(12) + 2 = 14

Octavia initative - (1d20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18

Zachary initiative - (1d20+1)

(7) + 1 = 8

Guard initiative - (1d20+1)

(17) + 1 = 18

Octavia leads the charge. The others may not be used to fighting human opponents before, They had all experienced the ferocity of kobolds, and while they don't want to get overwhelmed again, they also did not know the capability of the cultist, so her first stab with her spear is aimed at one of them as she rushes out of their hiding spot.

Rolls

Spear - (1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d20+6 : (5) + 6 = 11

1d6+4 : (1) + 4 = 5

May 19, 2020 2:18 pm
As soon as Octavia rushes out, Kirsk joins her swinging his warhammer at one of the cultists.
OOC:
I always get confused, in 5e your allies can move through your square correct? If so, Kirsk would stay in front of the entrance so that the allies can get out but the rest would have to go through him

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Damage if hit - (1d8+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

OOC:
I’m not sure what the official rule is. I’ll say that unless the space is extremely limited, I’ll allow it. It opens up a little bit after the tunnel here, and since I imagine you to attack the from behind after they’ve passed, I’ll allow you to switch positions. The narrowness of the tunnel and your order would only possibly have come into play if you’d been ambushed because you made too much noise. But you want to hang back in front of the entrance after attacking or what is it you want exactly?
May 19, 2020 3:39 pm
OOC:
I want to protect the squishy ones, so that the Kobalds can cultists would have to get through me.
May 19, 2020 3:47 pm
OOC:
Okay, that’s fine. You’re definitely able to do that
May 20, 2020 2:53 pm
OOC:
I’m going to give Zachary and Kel a few more hours, otherwise I’ll start the first actual round of combat
May 20, 2020 3:57 pm
OOC:
My bad, thought we were waiting on the enemies to attack. I must have misread.
Kel slips by Kirsk shortly after Octavia. With her companions striking the cultists, she focuses her attacks on the Kobolds, remembering all to well the bitter taste of defeat.

Rolls

Shortsword - (1d20+4, 1d6+2)

1d20+4 : (1) + 4 = 5

1d6+2 : (1) + 2 = 3

Unarmed - (1d20+4, 1d4+2)

1d20+4 : (16) + 4 = 20

1d4+2 : (1) + 2 = 3

May 20, 2020 6:13 pm
OOC:
I do have to wait after their turn if I am not mistaken
May 20, 2020 6:33 pm
OOC:
It's a surprise round, so they can't act
May 20, 2020 8:07 pm
OOC:
Yeah, I’m sorry if I didn’t make that clear enough. I’ll start the actual round now, but if Zachary wants to do two actions on his turn, I’ll allow it
Octavia, you run out and attempt a stab at one of the cultists but he hears you just as you’re about to strike and as he turns towards you he unwittingly manages to dodge your spear. Before he has any chance to utter more than "What-", Kirsk delivers a devastating blow right under his chin with his warhammer, so powerful that it lifts the human up from the ground. He falls dead on the ground. The other cultist’s face is mostly obscured by a black mask, but you see his eyes widen in horror and shock at the sight of his fallen comrade.

The four kobolds whirl confused around and is met by the whirlwind that is Kel. Kel swings her sword wildly, but misses her target big time. She manages to recover enough however to send a spinning kick into the ribs of another kobold. You hear a sharp crack that could only be a broken rib and a howl of pain. The Greenest guard that followed you through the tunnel also charges at the kobolds, but his thrust with his spear gets deflected.

Rolls

Guard Vs Kobold - (1d20+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

May 20, 2020 8:33 pm
OOC:
Off to bed, so I’m gonna roll for the guard. That means that 2 of you have the chance to act.
The guard doesn’t miss with his second thrust. He spears one Kobold straight in the chest, killing it instantly.
