Arrows fly at the man with smokey eyes. The first grazes his arm, but with a wave of his hand the second shatters in midflight. A knife flies through the air and is deflected by another wave of the smokey eyed man's hand. In that moment, Vargas elbows the tall woman in the face. She stumbles backwards and phases through the bar counter. Her cold gaze fixes on Vargas. Dasclaw's defensive preparations allow him to foresee, and react, to the sudden attack from the man with the staff, who lunges forward and attempts to bash him in the head. Dasclaw steps to the side and guides the attack into the floor. Belarigen's attack draws the attention of the smokey eyed man...

The man with the smokey eyes places his hand on the towel, and Belarigen feels it vibrate in his hands for a moment before the threads of the towel pull apart. The man spins, smoke trailing behind him, and pushes his hands out at Belarigen, throwing his hands forward. Belarigen is struck in the chest by an incredible force, and, like Vargas before him, tossed backwards through the air.

The man with the staff, pauses to press his staff to the air, sending out the dampening pulse again, before renewing his attack against Dasclaw, striking at him with the staff.

The woman strides towards Vargas, phasing through the counter again and swinging at him with an obvious haymaker. As Vargas moves to block, her fist phases through his blocking arm and becomes solid again as it hits him in the face.

Vargas finds himself suddenly squint from the fist to the face. "Oy if you're playing dirty we're havin' a roll in the hay la'ah. I'm a bi'ah. (Yeah I know but I like em feisty!)". Kicking a bit of chair strapnel towards the wooden stick wielder's rear/ Vargas rushes the woman repeated attempting to jam one shiv into her head as his hand keeps passing through,/ "So do you 'ave ta concentrate when you do dis trick or you're in the nude? I'd like to see if you fight in the nude well too love." Vargas jeers,/ if the woman noticed he'd always try and keep the other shiv steady in her stomach while she was intangle or move it so his hands was just outside the intangle target holding the shiv in place waiting./ Although he didn't know how this trick worked he was keen to find out just how it work dancing around the woman as he attacked he'd keep one hand steady close to her hip with a shiv buried as he smiled gleefully.
OOC:
Putting 3 in strike and 2 in defense (Strikes on the lady and 3 defense spending 1 on my threat one on Dasclaw's threat).

Prison Gladiator 4 (3S/2D) - (5d6)

Davik circles his way to the side of the attacker, / steps out of the crowd, dagger in hand / before launching a couple more daggers at their attackers and fading back into the crowd, / shifting his features again to avoid notice.
OOC:
Using my knife-thrower trait again
Allocating both successes to Strike, if possible. There's no threat to me, so do I have to put one on defense due to my edge?

Revision: I will grant a bonus to Dasclaw

4d6 vs Knife Thrower (2) - (4d6)

OOC:
Yes, your edge requires that you allocate at least 1 to Defense. You can always use it to grant another character a bonus die (the Help Another use of a Defensive success). Alternatively, if you allocated 2, you could remove the Threat from another character.

Also, Vargas, it costs *2* Defense successes to remove the threat from another character. So, at best, you could grant Dasclaw +1 die, but can't remove the threat and your own with only 2 successes.

OOC:
Ah, what did I do with my defense success from last time around? Was it applied to my 2 before automatically since I didn't say anything? Is that why it's at 1 now? Also since you rolled threat for me what's that do? I think I need to read the rules again. -_-;

Update: If I have two total to spend now I'll drop the threat on Dasclaw. Also wood chips to the bum. XD.

OOC:
I assumed your Defense from last round applied to your threat, reducing it to 1, which is why 1 die was rolled against you and not 2. As it rolled a 6, nothing happened. If it rolled a 1 or 2, you would have gain a condition. The threat this round is indenepdent of the previous round, every round the GM reassigns threat. To review, it works like this:

Threat is assigned
Players take their turns
Undefended Threat is rolled, each die result of 1 or 2 gives that character a Condition
Repeat

Also, as a general note to everyone: don't describe the *outcome* of your attacks. Describe the intention. One way to know if you're doing it right is to ask yourself if you're making assumptions about how the NPCs react, if you are, you're describing the outcome.

Dasclaw hoists himself on Vargas' shoulder as the larger man passes, dodging past the staff (eliminating threat on Dasclaw) and landing on a table in Stance Four, Desire of the Burning Mountain. Flame busts from Dasclaw's palms and soles. He extends his hands in a pushing motion, sending fire toward the staff-wielder's face. / Dasclaw drops from the table in the second form of Stance Four, attempting to chop his flaming hands on either side of the man's neck, as physical contact helps him draw the magic from another. / Then Davik's dagger flashes through the air; Dasclaw snatches it out of the air and plunges it at the staff-wielder's face (bonus die). Stance Four is all about disruption of magic concentration, which helps with the feasting.
OOC:
The magic threat on Dasclaw was removed last round, and the threat from this round was removed. The pool is three dice, plus 1 from Davik's aid another, plus 2 more from magivore the previous round: all in Strike this round with Magician 3.

Edit: that looks like four successes.

Rolls

Strike - (6d6)

(512215) = 16

Mar 11, 2016 6:20 pm
The woman intermixes phasing and solidity to deflect Vargas' attacks, or dip through his weapons entirely, take an angle behind him and land unblocked blows on his sides. All the while it appears as if random tavern goers have engaged the battle by throwing knives at the intruders, drawing attention away from the fighters and towards the innocent bystanders.

The kicked bit of chair strikes the staff-wielder, causing him to jump and miss Dasclaw with his attack. His opponent put off balance, Dasclaw unleashes fiery fury on the man, finishing off with a brutal thrust of one of Davik's knives. The blade sinks into the dampener's shoulder as the man twists to avoid it. As the blade sinks in his grip on the staff looses and the magic focus falls to the floor, the man tumbles to the ground behind it and lays still, clearly removed from the fight.
OOC:
Vargas earns 3 Strikes and 2 Defense, Defense clears Threat on Dasclaw
Davik earns 1 Strike and 1 Defense, and also gains 1 Experience with Knife Thrower
Dasclaw earns 4 Strike successes, permanently reducing the threat by 1 and eliminating the ongoing debuff

Current Status:
Difficulty: 7
Threat: 2

1 Threat assigned to Vargas
1 Threat assigned to Belarigen

Belarigen and Jarveena still to act.
Mar 12, 2016 4:46 pm
Belarigen rises to a knee, and then dive rolls toward Smokey (1). His bar towel destroyed, he draws his own rope-dart and flicks it into action. It instantly begins to whirl menacingly with a high pitched whine (2). The dart spins back and forth in a complicated dance (3), and then swings at Smokey's head, missing short (4), but wrapping around his other hand before springing backwards to attack the sorcerer's throat (5).
OOC:
Using Vineborn for +1 rating on the rope-dart -> 3 strike, 2 defense

Rolls

3d6 Strike (Ninja 3) - (3d6)

(252) = 9

2d6 defense - (2d6)

(61) = 7

Mar 12, 2016 10:57 pm
Staying low and hidden, Jarveena rolls to the next table to get a better shooting angle / Rising up onto her right knee, / she switches her bow to her left foot, grasping the weapon through her specially-made split-toe soft boots. / Drawing with her right hand / she fires arrow after arrow at the smoke-eyed man.

Rolls

Deadeye Archer (4); All strike! (5 dice) - (1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6, 1d6)

1d6 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (6) = 6

1d6 : (4) = 4

1d6 : (2) = 2

1d6 : (3) = 3

Mar 13, 2016 12:43 pm
Bleargian and Jarveena's combined assault on the smokey-eyed man takes him out of the fight, as he's entangled by the rope dart then struck in the chest by an arrow.

The phasing woman doubles her assault on Varags, who has thus far proven to be quite durable. Her feet suddenly phase into the floor and she drops through it. Moments later her hands reaches up from under the floor behind Vargas' foot and grasps at it.
OOC:
Belargian gets 2 Strikes, 1 Defense
Jarveena gets 4 Strikes

Current Status:
Difficulty: 1
Threat: 1

1 Threat assigned to Vargas

Rolls

Threat on Vargas - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Seeing only one opponent left, Davik leaps from the crowd / and launches a hail of daggers at the woman's exposed arm. / He shifts back into his regular self before shaking his head sadly, / saying dramatically, "Oh, what a shame this loss of life is! Though they did promise us a free round of drinks to dull the pain."
OOC:
One strike success, no defense

Davik tosses his blade and ...
OOC:
Davik gains 1 success, 1 experience with Knife Thrower and brings the Challenge to a close! Davik, may now provide the Final Blow description - how does the action bring the conflict to an end? Also, I'm going to copy, paste in the OOC, then delete Varags' post as the challenge was over as soon as Davik earned that last success. Pasting in OOC in case Remnant decides to salvage any of it for the scene post-combat
Mar 14, 2016 7:00 pm
Davik tosses his blade and it strikes home just as the woman's hand reaches up from below the floor, pinning the hand to the floor. The woman wails in pain and comes back up from below, solid once again. Davik bends down, grabs her chin and moves her head to look her right in the eyes and flashes her a wide smile, "Now, why don't we talk about this now? If you'll tell us what's going on here then we will ensure that your punishment is far less unpleasant than it could be."
Mar 15, 2016 7:39 pm
The woman narrows her eyes back at Davik and says, "Contract on your friend there. Went up in the Black Quarter last night. A hefty bit of coin, musta' irked someone something fierce."
Mar 15, 2016 8:30 pm
"Well, why don't you tell us who these people are. They have also incurred a response with its own price tag. They've laid out the rules, let us play!"

Belarigen gathers in his rope dart and pauses to dramatically clean the blood off of it.

OOC:
As this is narrative driven, it makes sense to hand over some story power to the players once in a while: Vargas, who wants you delivered alive and is willing to pay a hefty sum for said delivery?
Mar 16, 2016 1:31 pm
Vargas with the battle over had taken to tapping the floor his brow furrowed, "Didn't know dere was a basement it's a surprise 'innit. (Well I guess das where dey keep the meats and sweets, ale and cheese... yeah it would be a nice place to live... but I can't sink through the floor)." he states to himself when he hears mention of a contract which made sense on him but when the Black Quarter was mentioned he slowly turned his head to the woman and the others.

"..."

"Oh #)%&$Exclamation Point (Ya think it's bout Lord Byron's house catching fire? Well it wasn't our fault we were drunk... We were over there that one time before that though and did take a dump on him while he was sleeping...Plus we snuck into his daughters room... didn't know it was his mother-in-law staying there...*insert several other risky details here*) Well I might have an idea on the who it is but I might be wrong, I've 'ad a few blackout after drinking really so it's likely to be who I think it is to this dame's mum for pinching 'er bum... da mum not dis bird... anyway if there's a bounty for me alive I say we go and collect it and see who's looking for me...we're going into the Black Quarter a place of ill repute, unsavory types, shadow dealings, debauchery and depravity sprinkled with death, poverty, and every vice known to mankind... So we should probably roll this bugga'z for some spending coins." Vargas states, it's the most the group has heard him talk at one time for well since as long as they've known him and it's hard to follow the conversation especially since he's talking to someone else as well.

"(Coo 'err... Don't mention her being pregnant... I meant the mother-in-law but I guess both.)" Vargas mutters reaching for a drink off the bar before searching motioning to search the bodies and the woman.

Remnant sent a note to Candi
Mar 16, 2016 2:35 pm
Jarveena has stowed her bow out of sight, and is back playing the part of the stern but blind tavernkeep. "Take this interrogation to the barn. Someone get these bodies out of here and clean this mess up! You boys - get the hell out!!!" It's all for show. She gives Dasclaw a surreptitious glance and a barely perceptible signal: "I'll be right there." Once order has been restored at the Nest Jarveena intends to tail the group - secretly of course - to the barn, the Black Quarter, and wherever else this is all leading.
Mar 16, 2016 3:13 pm
With a shrug Vargas looks down at the woman and picks up his boot. With a quick kick to the face he knocks her out before putting his boot back on and grabs the two men tossing them over one shoulder. He goes to lift the woman under his other arm and realizes she is attached to the ground, "Right what we do with a blink about bird like this? Can't nail her to the barn for a bit can we?" Vargas pokes her to see what she has one her and also to find out if she's wearing shoes or anything under her robe.
