Computer expert and cleric have kind of been covered by 78RPMLife and Baldwin. Naelick is making some sort of Captain character, I believe. Ed... is the semi-human ship engineer. And Squadfather is a bodyguard/duelist combatant.

A crew position that still needs to be filled is Gunner. Anyone with the Ranged Combat skill can fill this role.

Some important things that I should mention:

ICONS
As far as selecting your character's ICON, the book says to determine it randomly. However, if you'd prefer to select a specific Icon, then feel free to do so.

LANGUAGES
In terms of languages, each of your characters starts with ZENI, which is the Zenithian tongue and has become the lingua franca of the Third Horizon. Since most of you are Zenithian, this makes sense.

For each level you have in the CULTURE skill, you get an additional language of your choice.

KUAN is another very common language, which hails from the planet Kua. Since Coriolis orbits Kua, the Kuan tongue is a common second language on Coriolis, especially among Firstcome.

Each major inhabited world in the Third Horizon can be assumed to have a native language.

Languages are listed on p. 223 of the Coriolis core book.

CONTACTS
Each of you gets a free contact of your choice. This is an individual who provides you with information or small favors on occasion. If you are a member of a faction, then your contact would likely be someone in your faction.

If you want ideas for contacts, the various individuals described under Group Patrons & Nemesis in the Group Discussion thread could all make for viable contacts.

Those with the Faction Standing talent get their entire faction as their contact.

Not sure about my crew position yet. I suppose that I could be a Gunner if needed. I do have the Ranged Combat skill. As a godly person I imagine that he doesn’t like to fight unless required.

I would like to switch from the Judge to the Deckhand as an Icon talent.

I would like Abdul Nasr as a contact please.

Would it be suitable to have my "handler" from the Syndicate — the one who tells me when they’ve got a job they want me to do — as a contact? It’s not my faction, and I doubt they’d do me any real favors small or large, but it’d be a source of information.

That’s totally fine

No problem.

Ok, let me try this... I drafted two options:
* The courtesan which is like an educated slave dancer working as the ship medic
* The diplomat who is the patron's representative on the ship, maybe even the captain on paper

name Sani
Origin: Firstcome
Home system: Zhau nomad
Upbringing: Privileged
background: Enslaved nomad girl that gained the trust of the patron Khadija Jubal as they grew togeter. Islamic slaves way back into the golden age were not like what we think of slaves today and had opportunities. Due to their childhood friendship Sani (no right to family name) was sent to be educated in the best schools to help and support Khadija and, suposely his brother. Something like that, so she gained the trust of both Khadija and his mother Aldair. Charming but with surgical restrain, she built quite a reputation within the highest circles.
appearance: Flawless makeup, animate tattoo, head wrap with a gem
[ +- ] Courtesan
[ +- ] Sani the courtesan
[ +- ] Diplomat
[ +- ] Sani the diplomat

I like the courtesan idea. Very Inara from Firefly.

OOC:
I was also thinking that she could put level in command instead of medic as courtesan if that role need filling. It is a skill that giives help bonuses, so could be useful for a non fighter

Naelick might be doing a Captain/Command character but not sure yet. However, having a medic would be very useful. I believe only one other character has Medicurgy and it’s at level 1. If naelick doesn’t go in that direction, then have at it.

Actually, after checking the book, I just realized that at character creation no concepts can have the Medicurgy skill above level 1 except for the Scientist (Medicurg). So Command could be a good choice for your courtesan or diplomat.

Ha! The avatar picture you chose for the diplomat is the one I chose for my character.

Lost twins? Cloned by the dark between the stars in an unstable portal? Secret government experiments?

If naelick does make a captain character, then Sani could always be the first officer. She’d be the Sarge to naelick’s Malcolm Reynolds. In that case, the Command skill would still be useful to have.

Just a note of clarification, Khadija is a woman's name. When I proposed Khadija and Khalim as patron and nemesis I envisioned them as fraternal twins. After rereading the post with that suggestion I realize that I did not make my intention clear, although I did use female pronouns in my character backstory post.
Ed... says:

Khadija had Brahim brought to her and when she asked questions he told her honestly what he had seen on the ship. Ghabi and the rest of the crew were "dealt with" and Khadija found herself with a ship and engineer in need of a new captain and crew (the rest of you all - however that happened).
In the event that the patron's sex impacts your backstory I thought I should mention this - obviously changing the sex of the patron is also an option.

Well, I wrote a draft concept after a quick read through and will review it once we get a better picture of the crew (and if courtesan or diplomat) so there are probably a lot os mistakes :) but the patron being a woman helps selling that it is just a friendship

I was going to suggest that the personal problem is: She's a slave and is considered property in the eyes of the law, owing her full loyalty (but not responsibility for following orders). Something like a birthday gift for Khadija. Apparently a slave courtesan was know as a Qayna. So she is not paying the ship, but instead her freedom (meaning when everyone gets the ship, she becomes free, but not own a spaceship).

Though... depending on the views on sexuality in the third horizon... the problem can easily turned into a character problem as well and a dark secret to keep from the Icon fanatics maybe? Is she representing the patron or "exiled" by the mother to protect the family?

I like the problem; that idea is fine with me.

So from what I can gather in the books, human slavery is banned in most of the Third Horizon, including Coriolis. Even the Syndicate tends to shy away from it. There are major exceptions, of course; a few far-flung planets and cultures yet permit humans as property. Corsairs and certain Syndicate rivals outside of Coriolis deal in the slave trade. Semi-intelligent non-human species are also regularly enslaved by humans, and some humanite groups are treated little better than slaves. If you were Khadija's slave, it'd be something that she'd take great pains to keep secret, because it could cause her lots of trouble on Coriolis.

That said, there are some in-game alternatives. Indentured servitude is legal in the Third Horizon and, in some cases, not much better than actual slavery. The servitude can be generational, as well, so your parents were in Khadija's service, and you were born into their debt, etc. With indentured servitude, you could retain the same basic flavor for your character (and keep the problem that you thought up).

Another option is a life debt. This tradition is more common among Firstcome than Zenithians. Khadija did something for you or your family, something so immense, that your character feels as though you must serve her to pay her back (unlike indentured servitude or slavery, you have entered her service entirely under your own free will).
