The Paladin knows that he is idealistic and listens to the hard knock skepticism of his wife. "Since the day that Kukul cut his fingers off and made man, we have been nothing more than that, playthings. Will we ever be more?"

You walk behind the little girl who called herself Uhti but also Camihuatl. She rounds one corner and skips up to the steps of a residence with a sea shell sign that bears the godglyph.

Written in common below it was the name "Ili's Jungle" She takes you through the stone door into a jungle themed entry room with Kopak trees and hanging ferns. Tables abound with cushions around. She gestures to a large table by the window. Pipes are playing somewhere. The smell of morning bakeries fill the space. It looks comfortable. A furry creature pops out of the Druid's cloak pocket and scampers up the vines to join other Pygmy Marmoset playing in the ceiling.

"Mama! I broke the water jug! I'm so sorry!" she runs up to a matronly figure, who comforts her. The mother tells her, "It was foretold."
and returns to the kitchen.

Camihuatl returns the table and tells you to sit be comfortable, talk, tell stories. She will be back with tea and sweets.

"Well, it appears that my mischievous Ili approves of this place. Perhaps, Duke has more insight than I first imagined. It is certainly true that we made quick work of the vampires earlier. And there is a certain intrinsic value in a team of diverse fighters who can compliment one another, just as the various elements of nature coexist and bring balance to one another. I have felt a growing darkness entering the land. These dealings with vampires bring to mind the first man, Camazotz, who became the first vampire. Are you all familiar with the legends of Maztica?"

"Is nothing in this town made for men of real stature?" I stare at the pillows lying on the ground next to a table that might as well be a step stool. Then I gather up a handful of pillows from the edges of the room and fashion an approximation of a seat not woefully inadequate, albeit a bit unstable, and plop myself down on it. "Anybody got some spare cloth they don't need? I'd rather not spoil these fine pillows with the puss that's oozing out my side." I worn, weary, and nearly dead. I don't care if it's rude to be the first to take a seat, nor attempt to make myself comfortable. I need some rest.

"Ugh. Legends, prophecies, who has time for such things?"

"Perhaps the stable would be more comfortable?" I quip, but follow it up with a Cure Wounds spell cast on Storm.

Cure Wounds - (1d8+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

Taking my lute, I softly tune the strings as everyone gets settled.

"Ah! Thank you, bard. I do believe you have saved the pillows. And in this town, I suppose the stable might actually be more comfortable. Had to drag the mattress to the floor last night."

"What can I say, I'm a pillow advocate."

"Perhaps we should all tell our tales, of whence we came, and how we came to be in the square, all at the same time? It does seem as if some force were conspiring to bring us all together.

I'll start, and I'll be brief, for my tale seems much shorter than the intricate interweaving of all of your stories. As I said, I'm a Goliath, from up in the Chimatepec Mountains. I left my hometown to seek out my own fate. On a whim, I chose to head towards Baya, perhaps to see the great ships I had heard of, but I don't really know for sure.

Along the way, I met a bear. We had a disagreement, and I left with it's skin. I ran across an old and ugly sea dog, by the name of Teoalis, who tricked me and robbed me. I chased his canoe along the coast until I found it crashed and him gone. I took back what was mine, and spent some time underground, hiding from a fierce storm.

While underground, I did battle with some fish, and then a treasure chest with teeth. In the end, we were all dead. And so I thought was my tale. But that old sea dog was not gone, he was hiding somewhere. Hiding and observing. He brought me back, took my things again, and asked me to deliver some stuff to 'an elf friend' in Baya.

I arrived yesterday, took rest at a moderately luxurious room - that would have been better had the bed been a couple of feet longer - and dined finely across the street. But, in the midst of all this, the fine lass who was tasked to care for me at this hostel became possessed. Her eyes faded away, and that voice... the strange voice... it spoke to me from her lips. It told me I would be needed at the fountain, before dawn. And so there I was."

Having finished my story, I leaned back against the faux tree trunk I had set by pillows before. "Who's next?"
OOC:
As usual, it appears that I am no good at being brief. Such is life.

I settle down on a few pillows, very comfy. I await, eagerly the girl bringing the tea and sweets.

"This will do fine after that little squabble. As for Maztica history, I've read and heard bits for years, but memory isn't my strong suit."

"Interesting tale, Stormslayer, but what do you seek? Everyone has a quest. Why do so many people call you One? And you, Great Kon? Surely a dwarf traveling out of his own insular community seeks something?"

And you sir, elf, Jacob Vane. I heard you and Stormslayer talk about this Teoalis together. A mutual friend? How strange life's coincidences![b]

"I belong to the House of Tesca. I work with the city council in Tukan guarding caravans. Just finished a job that brought me here. The meeting with Plutoc was in route to Baya. I also chanced upon an item, which I'll wait to mention when we meet the Oracle and Huatzi."
Aug 18, 2020 6:36 pm
"Hah! Friend? That's not the word I would use to describe the old dog. As I said, I seek to define my own fate. Make of that what you will."

"Lady, tales of Camazotz are not tales to be told at breakfast, but rather around campfire to scare children. There are many who would seek him for his evil power or for his treasure. The Captain and I know green folk who have sworn to protect his secrets from falling into the wrong hands.

Tell us of this darkness, please.

The vampire we are chasing even as we speak seeks those secrets. We are obliged to leave at tomorrow morning's tide to pursue and overtake her before she reaches the Oracle of Nula, but we do not know what or where that would be. Does anyone here know?"

"Oracle? What oracle? Is the Oracle of Nula here of which I speak?"
Aug 18, 2020 6:44 pm
"I, too, seek the Oracle, but know not where to go. I'm hoping we'll find that out while we're here."

Maybe she is this Mother Uhti speaks of. "

"And what will is that, pray tell? To follow where strange voices send you? You speak of wandering and not knowing why you came thus to Baya. Does that not suggest that you are on a quest as well? What strange and exotic destination or treasure do you seek, One?"
