Gobby tells you that the egg is nice and warm and stirring. She’s excited. Lilanca has made you a bed by the window and you sleep comfortably for once, but before you are completely awake, one of the house boys shakes you. He fears you slashing out with some hidden weapon like most guests. That must explain the heavily padded armor and shield he is wearing for task. As soon as you wake, he runs.

Yes, that was exactly my next question. Seems strange to me, but thems the rules, I guess, okay. Here is a small list of things I would like to purchase that I think Kon would carry and would fit into his saddlebags.
Common Clothes
Fishing Tackle
Healers Kit
Mirror (steel)
I will subtract the gold from my list and add the items, unless you say NAY NAY.
I think the AC rules make a little more sense that you give them credit. The chain mail is worn with padded gherkin and other things. The whole ensemble is calculated better then leather itself. In the end, it’s a mechanic that makes the math easy and the role playing more fun. If you want to get your head stuck in the minutiae then I recommend you play in 3.5e. You would love it.

Yes, the name change is for the overall game. I'll let you know as the game flows when I'll use aliases for specific uses.

I rise, dress, grab my weapons, and quickly head to the fountain to catch Huatzi before her contacts arrive. I'll try to explain the nature of the merchant guild here and the potential danger she is getting herself into. I'll tell her about the egg once we've dealt with the traders.

It is still easy enough to find the central square in the dark before dawn, even if it by hearing the play of water where an aqueduct drops ice melt mountain water into various cascading basins.
As you reach the end of the street that empties into the square, you hear the sounds of hoops and howlers, as well as the clank of metal, and the sound of a very young girl crying in fear. Getting to the edge of the dim lit square, torches on the perimeter and the growing dawn approaching, your eyes confirm what you have heard. Five soldiers in plate mail and drawn long swords are pushing around a girl of perhaps 10 years old, who is carrying on her head a large pottery that she has filled at the fountain, the water spilling as she moves back and forth to avoid the men's swords set out to trip her in jest. You hear one of the men yell out in broken Maztica common, "Dance for us squaw!" You can see no one else is in the square and all the shop doors are closed. They are 80 feet from you and are at the center of the square.

Well this just won't do. I draw my ax and walk towards the big bad cowards. When I get about 15 feet from them I stop, with ax on my shoulder. I address the gentlemen.
"Well, what do we have here? Five big scary men picking on a little girl. You want somebody to dance, I'LL DANCE FOR YA, YOU COWARDLY PIECES OF OGRE DUNG. COME MAKE ME DANCE!!!!"

"Well lover boy, I see you have something in every caravan stop. You wanted to speak with me away from your new group of friends?"
Aug 19, 2020 12:55 pm
"Jealous?" I tease as I draw her into a firm embrace, then I pull back, looking her seriously in the eyes.
I don't know what you've heard since you flew ahead a few days back, but quite a bit has happened. It might be quicker if you tell me anything you already know."

"I have no need for jealousy. We are soldiers you and I. We take what we want when we can take it and the gods allow. I was about to tell these folk my story. The seamen are the traders that I have told have supplies for building homes for the refuges. My apologies for not coming back to the caravan but I’ve been negotiating for Nexal all this time. What is so secret that you do not want others to hear?"

"Okay, I'll fill in details later, but I found something supposedly meant for you. A small group of goblins were transporting a rather large egg. The only info I could get was it was sent by the High priest of Zaltec as a gift for the refugees and was to be delivered to you somewhere along the way to Tukan. Do you have any knowledge of any of this? "
Aug 19, 2020 6:33 pm
"No... and there is no High Priest of Zaltec right now. He died in the viper hand. Who do you mean?"
Aug 19, 2020 7:04 pm
No idea, Imish used some of his voodoo magic or whatever on two of the goblin heads and that is what they said. A gift from the high priest of Zaltec to the refugees and you were their contact."
" Look, I know this sounds way out there, but it's true. I wanted to tell you before the others hear, not sure why, but your name was the only one brought up.
I don't know if it was the right thing to do, but I brought it with me. I also think the object BIGMAN drew is that same egg, but that's just a guess."

"OH, one more thing, there's a goblin in my room, also, who seems ready to give its life to protect the egg. It said the egg has a coatl growing in it and something about Quotal's rebirth. Probably should have mentioned that earlier."
Aug 19, 2020 8:50 pm
"Sounds like we could use some help from the group, no? To figure this out. You tell them, ok?" She gives you a kiss of encouragement. "Thank you for telling me first."

At second level you get Action Surge at third level you select your martial archetype, which allows you to do two actions in a round, once a long rest.
Picking an archetype allows you to role play more things than just singing an ax. There are some fun ones in this link

I have been reading through the PHB about fighters and spells. I picked my two cantrips, but not my three spells. I'll get my character sheet updated ASAP.

I highly recommend "Shield" especially at your level. More useful than an attack.
It is a reaction so doesn't impose any action economy problems.

There is a conflict between your double handed ax attack and your dueling fighting style that requires one handed weapon. You might reconsider one or the other.
