A quick heads up to everyone...
I know we play this campaign as close to B/X Rules As Written as possible, but we have strayed from it a few times for the sake of following the module's guidelines because I've been advised that it's more or less necessary if the party is going to be of sufficient strength to balance the difficulty later in the module.
For instance, one major change from B/X R.A.W. and this campaign is that I've been awarding the party the XP for monsters defeated as written in the module which is significantly higher than the XP values in B/X rules, despite everything else about the monsters being completely, or at least nearly identical.
Another thing I'm going to allow as described in this module is the option of chopping down doors. In B/X you generally have two options. If a door is locked, it must be successfully picked by a thief... PERIOD! If it's merely stuck, you can force it open on a 2-in-6 chance.
In this module, locked doors can be chopped down if a Pick Lock attempt fails. Doors merely have a number of Hit Points assigned to them, and if a PC is determined to breach they attack it with a suitable weapon (typically bladed like a sword or axe). The attack is an automatic success, much like attacking a defenseless NPC, and only the damage needs to be rolled. The downside to this, obviously, is that many doors are pretty high in Hit Points and take a while to chop through, as well as clearly very loud, so stealth and time are given up, which is why the thief is still probably the best option to use if trying to get past a locked door.
Is everyone alright with implementing this rule from the module?
