Out of Character discussion:

Okay, so I dug through all the relevant posts... Has anyone actually ever tried to read through every post in this campaign? It takes a relatively big run of time! More than I thought it would...

Here's what I have going on in the horse department… The party is currently in possession of:
1 Pony
1 Mule
6 Riding Horses
2 War Horses


Now, because it's basically horses all the way down, I'm ruling that Kelric and Angel did take their mounts with them when they boned out. So this is what individual PCs own from this pool:

Gilly: 1 Pony - chocolate brown pony with cream mane and tail named Timber
Eltrezar: 1 Mule named Isolde, 1 riding horse unnamed
Maloria: ?
Bors: ?
Unclaimed: 5 Riding Horses (1 named "Buddy" which was used by the druids to guide the party to the Moathouse to begin with; 1 named Zephyr belonged to Sister Alice)
Unclaimed: 2 Warhorses (1 named Deliverer belonged to Coulson)

So obviously there are a few horses available still and Maloria and Bors haven't specified which they took claim to.
Let me know which of these Mal and Bors would claim, and I'll decide what Turuko ride.

Bors will take the unnamed warhorse and name it Course the Horse.

Well... Sure don't want to bust up a warhorse, soooooo... Mal broke a riding horse ;)

Oh right, they're a ways back... I'm not sure Eltrezar cares enough about a horse, to be honest. I propose we continue on, and have a hearty dinner.

I added a "mounts" section to your XP and treasure tracking spreadsheet, btw. Moldvay never included ponies to his B/X rules for some insane reason, but all other mounts have the same stats between B/X rules and BECMI rules, so I used the BECMI pony stats for Timber.

I have one vote for eating the horse from Eltrezar.

Horse sashimi is quite good...

Mincing the horse does save us a lot of time, I suppose! Bors?

Also, it occurs to me that Eltrezar attempted to steal the scene from Gilly without actually knowing her plan! Scene-stealing is very much up his alley, but only when he actually knows (or thinks he knows) more at the moment.

So we kill the horse? Is that the plan?

I was considering volunteering Eltrezar to handle it, but that poor horse! It would be a massacre, and I'm not convinced the wizard would come out on top.

Ugh, breaks my player heart to chop up the steed, but I'm not sure my pragmatic roughneck cleric would care. Seems like the thing you do with a busted horse in the wild...

But still.

Lol, I just realized that Gilly's now the only PC with a bow, and neither Turuko or Kobort darry ranged weapons. Either someone's going back down into the water and smacking this poor horse over the head or Gilly's getting stuck with the dirty work.

Aw man, how much side quest is it gonna take to realistically save the horse? Even if we get the pixies to come back with us and help, we'd still have to walk the horse out of the ditch out by where the bank is low, right?

You'd go a half hour back to the burial cairn, hope the pixies are there, hope you can convince them to follow you, lead them back to the moathouse ruins if they do, see if they can or will help your horse in the moat. I think they the pixies can fly and could get down and back up easily enough, and then it would just be a matter of climbing down the moat and retrieving your horse when you're ready to leave and walking it out of the ditch where the bank is lower downstream.

Ok I vote for the half hour ride to the pixies (hopefully)

I don't wanna do melee combat with the horse mostly.

I think if the horse is prone and helpless it's an automatic success lol. Bors will do the dirty work.

Following my Thanksgiving tradition, I'll be backpacking Thursday and Friday. I'll be back this weekend, but likely in a food coma.
