Oh man @cowleyc, your new wizard avatar is exactly what I was thinking Eltrezar would look like with his swanky new digs. 100% what I was thinking!

You’re gonna like them. I’ve been waiting for IRL months (years?) for you to finally get them. They’re cooler than you think.

I mean, they’re definitely cool anyway, because that fabric was valuable as hell, but this new tailor in town is gonna get you fixed up property. You’ll like them.

Now we just need to survive the night!

I had the hardest time finding images for Eltrezar that I vibed with, until I started looking into the mysterious Blue Wizards from LotR!

Oh man the Blue Wizards from the Silmarillion right? Weren't they a tragically weird story? Like one floated off into space in a bubble or something? It's been 30 years since I read that lol!

My knowledge of them is directly related to the various wikis about them. I haven't been brave enough to tackle the Silmarillion, despite it being on my bookshelf. From what I understand, they came down a little before Gandalf and headed east. Nobody knows what happened, but theories are that they started cults that undermined Sarumans plans and limited his armies. I love all of that for them.

Possible Part 10 title: Of Keys and Cockerels.

Keep on the Borderlands fails to disappoint! The players finally dealt with the Gnoll Chief, named Bonejaw, and were immediately betrayed! A whole session of combat, but I think they loved it. One character and one NPC died, the rest got super banged up.

So now we're moving into another module, since I think they've determined the Caves of Chaos are just not their responsibility. Gonna provide a few NPCs to strengthen the party. Any suggestions? I was planning on two human brothers, one with an axe and shield, the other with a bardiche.

Can never have too many fighters in Basic. Only thing better than two human brothers is two dwarven brothers. Better saves and infravision ;)

A guy that lives near me in Korea is selling these for $20 each. Anyone know if they’re worth taking a look at?

If you're interested in second edition, absolutely! I grew up with that plates handbook and the skills and powers. Around here, I see the phb selling for around $40-50. The PHB and DMG both have the errata from the first printings (blue versions).

Question is, does that edition interest you? I don't know your familiarity, but it's my personal favorite.

Anything a little special/unusual interests me, if the price is right, to be honest! Which leads me to these, too:

Oh man, those are the reprint covers of the hardbacks (sure they aren't 3ed?) But the brown books are def 2e which will live forever as my favorite edition of DND (cuz of nostalgia). End of the THAC0 system, end of an era.

So, a quick rundown. Those are almost all the various options books that aren't tied to a campaign setting. Each one comes with special, optional rules, as well as new kits (kinda like 5e subclasses). $20 each is a good price! The hardbacks are generally closer to $45, and the softbacks around $25-30.

If you want to take a look at their content through an ugly website, check this out!

I have that hardback PHB in front of me right now! Definitely 2e. Some call it 2.5.
Sep 30, 2022 3:23 am
Nice. I have the original 2e hardbacks but that art style reminded me of early 3e.
Sep 30, 2022 3:34 am
It does look closer to 3e, but the art style changed a lot between editions. Lots of similar style "mural" pages between the two printings of the 2e PHB. 3e had too much of Wayne Englund.

I've been considering running a 2e game on here, but I haven't worked up the nerve just yet.

I have a 2e Dragonlance campaign on here that has been on hiatus for a while, Rsteele and ConsummateMonster play in it. Takes place immediately after the cataclysm in a sort of post-apocalyptic Krynn all leading up to the Skullcap paradox.

I never read the dragonlance books! I know a lot of the tropes and themes, but my only real media has been through that direct-to-tv animated movie.
