I've just submitted a Thief.

@GeneCortess don't forget you can assign the attributes any way you like, also you can boost your prime requisite by 1 point for every 2 points you take off of either strength, intelligence, or wisdom (can't lower a stat below 9)
You could make any class you wanted with your second set of rolls, just turn that 11 into a 9 and the 12 into a 13 so you end up with two 13's. Or your first set of rolls (with the 18) would make a great fighter with 18 strength, the 4 could go into charisma since a 4 charisma is still just a -1 reaction penalty.

I was unaware we could rearrange the stats. That would change a lot. I thought we rolled for each stat so that meant we couldn't rearrange them.

Yup, roll 6 stats and assign them as you like. And the rules for taking points off one score and adding to another are on page 10 of the basic rule book.

I was thinking of a barbarian (I saw it in the advanced book) with either my first or third roll

I'm going for an Elf.

So I’m looking at either dwarf (good utility for finding traps, scouting dungeons, decent looking combat) or barbarian - good combat utility, foraging, and at level 4 good for magical monster fighting. Anyone know what would slot in best?

Reading through about AC, it says a boost reduces the AC number as lower is better. Does that mean for example, with a dex score of 18, the +3 modifier is actually a -3 to the AC?

That is correct about AC. If you have plate mail (base AC 3) and an 18 dex (-3AC) your final AC is 0. Add a shield (AC-1) and now you have a total AC of negative one.

Personally I think dwarves are about the best class in Basic Dnd, not only infravision and the trap finding utility but they also have by far and away the best savings throws in the game.

It looks like we will have a fighter, two elves, a dwarf/barbarian and a thief so then I'll run a cleric to balance it out.

Brilliant thanks for clearing that up. I’ll submit Coulson the dwarf when I finish up his sheet

I submitted Coulson the Dwarf. I copied his sheet into my character thread, I think I worked out the AC properly

With your current set up your AC is 3 (chainmail base ac5, then -1 for dex and -1 for shield) but I would recommend plate mail if you can afford it... Much better defense and death comes quick in Basic dnd

Ok cheers. So what’s the second number all about?
Sep 2, 2020 4:43 pm
The higher number in parentheses? That's an alternate method of running combat that uses the d20 system (like in 5e) instead of the THAC0 system (Basic thru second edition). You can ignore it.

Yeah that one. Thanks for the reply again.
I updated to add Platemail and corrected AC, adjusted gold to account for armour and weapon. Do we need to purchase the adventuring gear? Or do we just get that as standard

My pleasure to help with any questions. Yes you have to buy adventure gear as well. Rope is always super handy, and in a world without the Mage Hand cantrip I can't overstate the value of a 10' pole ;)

Awesome thanks. I'll go on a little shopping spree then lol

Want us to roll HP?
Sep 3, 2020 1:24 am
I asked about max hp at 1st level a while back, still waiting for the DM to answer...
