I was thinking about earlier this week when @KCC mentioned that they were considering grabbing Mal and carrying her away, but I DM ruled that it just wasn't going to be feasible under the extenuating circumstances at the time. But it did get me thinking what we would do since there's no actual rules as written.
What I was thinking was this:

I think if a PC wants to lift another PC or NPC a Strength Ability Check should be necessary, possibly with a Bonus or Penalty depending on any circumstances (also maybe if you're just dragging them instead of literally lifting them up you get a bonus). If you fail the Ability Check you can't get their dead weight off the ground this Turn; it's just a failed Action for the Round. If you succeed you can move them, but whatever the fallen PC's Encumbrance is gets put onto your own Encumbrance total, thereby, most likely reducing your Movement Rate a considerable amount.

Does that seem fair?

Sounds good to me, although if I were gonna be nuiancy about the encumbrance I would point out that you can drag a greater load than you can carry.

I was thinking dragging would most likely give you a bonus to your Ability Check. Lifting off the ground and carrying would likely give a penalty.

I'm so sorry gang!

Lol it seems perfectly in character. Although I expect Bors will not be so understanding if he survives haha

If we survive, we’ll have him for jerky and his robes will be fashioned into a hammock.

If we die, well, history is written by the victors… eh, survivors.

I'm never gonna get a cleric to level 2, I see that now ;)

Going into this, I think I'm going to make a ruling that since the tunnel is 30' deep and a lantern is 30' light, only the 5' square where the ladder is is illuminated. Anyone can see the ladder from the long corridor, and anyone standing directly under the light could probably see any creature adjacent to it but no further.

I should also remind you all that Mal is unconscious and paralyzed but not dead and there are a few Potions of Cure Light Wounds, which can either be used to heal Hit Points or cure Paralysis. Mal also has torches in her inventory but anyone trying to feel their way to her in the darkness will find it difficult and most likely deadly as long as the two skinnier ghouls are still attacking.

Only Gilly with her invisibility has a chance to do anything for Mal now.

Bors still has a chance of slaying the Ghouls!

Gonna take a hail Mary savings throw...

Oh man this is brutally intense! Good luck nezzeraj, Bors is too good to die!
Dec 15, 2021 11:08 pm
Do throwables like Holy Water or Alchemists Fire require proficiency? They're in the weapon's table, and I see no other ruling regarding them.
Dec 15, 2021 11:35 pm
I don't think so. That would be ridiculous that a wizard couldn't throw something. Like a oil flask. There's no way I could justify a certain class can't throw a random object.

I'll be honest, just to keep at least a little hope alive... I've been running this through for a good part of the day, and barring a bad roll from Bors, I think there's still a chance Gilly and Mal might make it out of here.

Bors is either going to be dead or unconscious, and pulling his unconscious body out is possible, but tough, and will likely involve more violence, but I'm not writing off anyone 100% quite yet.

Nice saves! C'mon Lady Luck!
Dec 16, 2021 3:32 am
Well, shoot. If you all survive with rolls like that, Eltrezar's dead.
Dec 16, 2021 3:59 am
Oh my gosh! This is getting so complicated! Okay, I have to go do pools at the gym I work out at (pays for my membership), and basically just think about this. Literally nobody is out of this fight for good yet...

I will try and post when I get home.

We might get up but we can’t actually do much, right? At least myself and Bors. Unless Maloria uses her turn, not to attack, but to light something?

I would say right now Gilly is about the only one that can do anything. That being said, Gilly would know that Maloria has both at least one Potion of Cure Light Wounds ad a number of torches, due to discussion earlier when Turuko offered to carry a torch for you guys.

Assuming Gilly can find Mal's prone form, she could feasibly quietly use an Action to go through the cleric's inventory and look for something that would be useful. It would probably take another Turn after that to activate whatever she wants to use, but assuming she can remain invisible, the ghouls likely won't see her and will assume Maloria is dead or paralyzed, and will focus on the only walking prey in the room, which is Kobort.

That's what I'm thinking. Once Kobort goes down, or the ghouls realize Gilly is in the room or Maloria's awake again, that's another story...
