I call over the bustiest barmaid I can find. "Three fine ales for myself and my two friends here!" I point towards the happiest drunks I can find in the place. "Whatever they're having!" I then turn back towards my peoples. "Looks like a fun place they've got here. Either of you looking to make some coin?"

Back at the caravan, Toshi tries to gauge how long it is til nightfall. As is his custom, he will do his exploring then. For the moment he remains perched atop one of the wagons and watches a pair of human children at play. A boy and his sister. Toshi's thoughts turn to his sister, Aki. They had been happy once, until they Aki had stumbled into a human boy and his gang of street urchins. Their parents had always warned them of the cruelty of the 'noble' races, but that was the day Toshi had learned just how cruel humans could truly be. Toshi shakes his head to clear it of painful memories. He stows his throwing knife and brings out a ball of twine. A favorite plaything of Aki's when she was alive. He holds it gently in his hand as he watches the children, sitting very still, as if afraid any movement might dispel the idyll of the moment.

The barmaid, a voluptuous red head, smiles at Xulara with a "Sure thing, sugah," and saunters off to fetch the drinks requested. Cheers and jeers can be heard from the arm wrestling table as the "champ" takes down another challenger, and a few groans and sounds of excitement can be heard from the winners and losers at the dice table, as the halfling who appears to be running the show takes note of Xulara and starts wrapping things up with an announcement of "Last throw, gents! Double or nothing, winner takes all!"

Toshi, it was late afternoon/early evening when you all arrived in the town. Early dusk has started to set in, and you judge that in about 30 minutes, night will fully fall...but that doesn't appear to slow down the festivities at all.

Maia, as you walk along the various wagons and tents the merchants have set up, you can see that there's a little bit of everything here. An old human alchemist, long gray beard belted to keep from blowing in the breeze, is selling sparkle-sticks and other novelty alchemical items to the children for coppers, and tending to much larger fireworks when nobody is lined up to sample his wares. Another tent has a large wooden fence with various runes inscribed in it, which encircles the ring where the "Tournament of Arms" is being held. After wandering for about 15 minutes or so, you make your way into the Busty Barmaid in time to see Xulara, Hegy, and Garn have their drinks delivered to them.

Dahlia goes to the shrine of Sarenrae and prays for the health and prosperity of her traveling companions. She prays for the safety of the proprietor of this job. She prays for the strength to vanquish the evil that would threaten the things she has prayed for.

After her prayer she calls over the priestess and places a gold coin in her hand. "For Sarenrae my priestess. And if you would a blessing for me as I go to defend the inhabitants of the world from the evil that lurks therein.?"

Garn doesn't even sit before he smiles and says, "I'll be right back," before he wanders over to the arm-wrestling table, "Got time for one more challenger?" he asks, his huge arms crossed over his massive chest as he waits for a response.

Maia wanders over toward Garn as she sees the burly man sit at a table for gauche, uncultured, and possibly profitable competition. She leans down toward Garn as he sits. "Well friend, how confident are you feeling?"
Apr 4, 2016 1:49 pm
Garn flexes the muscles in his massive arms and winks at her, "I feel pretty confident, not many are the men who can best me in a test of strength."

Dahlia, the priest in the dark robes turns to you and accepts your coin, placing it within a satchel that has Sarenrae's symbol embroidered upon it. With a chuckle, a melodious male voice comes out from behind the mask.

"I am not a priestess, child, but I will gladly ask my lady Pharasma to guard and protect your fate, that you and yours may find your way home in the end."

He places a gloved hand on your shoulder and mutters a prayer in a language that you don't understand, but sounds beautiful and fills your heart with peace.

Garn and Maia: The current "champ" is a big, burly man who looks the barbarian over and grins.

"Hey hey, Jim. It looks like we might have ourselves a decent challenge this time!"

He looks at Maia with a bit of a drunken leer. "Don't worry, sweetheart, I won't hurt your boyfriend too much...but when we're done, maybe you'd like to spend the rest of the night with a real man. *hic*

The little man who has been riling up the crowd looks up at Garn's face and says "10 Gold gets you a chance at the champ. You win, you put 100 in your purse. You lose, you help buy the champ's drinks for the rest of the Celebration. And he don't drink cheap."
Apr 4, 2016 2:11 pm
Garn reaches into his pouch and slaps 10 gold coins onto the table, "Done! Now let's see what you've got!"
Apr 4, 2016 2:15 pm
Maia stares back at Jim with as much withering contempt and disgust as she can muster. She then turns back to Garn and whispers low.

"I'll put up 5 Gold if you're willing to part with 25 of the winnings. Plus, I can give you some tips without him knowing, so perhaps I can give you a weakness on which you can lean."
Apr 4, 2016 2:17 pm
Garn waves the offer away, "Nah, I got this covered, and you can have half the gold when I win. I'm just here for the challenge."
Apr 4, 2016 2:19 pm
Maia moves away, satisfied. That's better than she'd hoped.

"If you insist on charity, I won't dissuade you." She gives a rare smile. "Just make sure you take him down then. I don't like the bile that escapes his face."
Apr 4, 2016 2:24 pm
Garn, as soon as you slap the gold on the table, the champ's drunken leer turns to determination as he sets his arm on the table. You grasp his hand, and the little man standing beside him pats him on the shoulder and starts calling for bets.

"Alright folks, place your bets. 1 to 10 odds on the challenger here, place your bets!"

Bets start flying, with most of the people betting on the champ, and only one or two betting on Garn.
OOC:
Garn, give me a Strength check, please. Spellcasters, give me a Perception roll, followed by Spellcraft.

I smile pleasantly at the barmaid and drink with a practiced mirth as I watch my companions leave. It's yet another reminder that, in the end, I'll always be alone. I should be used to it by now.

The Halfling catches me eye, and I accept it for the invitation it is. What do I have to lose, really? I head over to the table, sloshing my drink as I do. "Double or nothing, you say? What's the wager?"

Dice Gods be kind!

Ugh!

The halfling looks at Xulara and says "Well, I'll welcome your bet newcomer, but it's the last throw of the night before I go attend to other business *wink goes here*. Minimum of 20 gold, and winner takes the pot. Call high or low and evens or odds."

He tosses the dice in the cup and starts to shake them, waiting for you to place your bet before slamming the cup upside down on the table.
OOC:
Xulara, Perception please.

Nobody in the Busty Barmaid notices anything out of the ordinary. The two musclebound men have their arms locked and ready to go, while the halfling and "Jim" are both making their last calls for bets.
