@Aldrusian:
Rannos nods slowly. "A fine choice, that bow, my friend. I tell you what, I'll throw in one quiver on the house to go with your purchase. I also have short swords brand new for 9 gold, long swords for 13 gold, and two-handed swords for the truly strong for 20 gold."

Gilly follows the rest around to the stables.

Her eyes grow excited when she sees all the animals. She drinks it in for a moment, and imagined herself charging into battle atop one of them.

Turning to Alice and Coulson:

Emm... scuse me.

If I’m an adventurer now, do I need one of them? For fighting, getting around and all that!"

She points out a particularly large goat.

"Oh! Oh! Or one of them! Look at him!"

She points out to one of the two mules!

Five silver is an appropriate price for a fine meal such as this. His spirits lifted by the ale, Eltrezar makes himself comfortable and begins his wait for these intrepid individuals to arrive. His mustache slowly becomes sudded, but the learned man is careful to eat his chicken to prevent becoming noticeably (and unseemly) intoxicated.
Nov 8, 2020 4:53 am
"Let's take a look at those longswords. Balance is the most important thing to me in a sword. I don't have giant strength so I have to get an edge somehow." Angel takes the best balanced sword, the bow and the two quivers and pours out a number of coins from his sack onto the counter and starts counting through them. "Now I had better go see about a horse." He follows Gilly out the back door.
Nov 8, 2020 4:56 am
Alice smiles at the halfling, charmed by her exuberance.

We will take a riding horse, the better of the mules, and two saddles if you please sir.

Alice thoroughly examines the riding horses to be sure they are of serviceable condition. She checks the hooves and mouth and the condition of the animals backs. Once satisfied, she chooses the best one and then makes the same checks of the mules.
Nov 8, 2020 7:06 am
Alice notices Kelric examining the horses as well and considers that he may not have the means to procure one.

Kelric, if you are to travel with us you should have a horse as well. I will happily donate the funds to purchase one for you as the coin I spend are the spoils of battle and may not be hoarded by those of my order.

Gilly watches the others carefully. She studies what they do to check the quality of the horses.

She mimics the examinations carried out on the mule herself, pretending to know what she is looking out for.

Hello, muley! I wonder what we will call you.
Nov 8, 2020 8:41 am
Coulson wanders over to the warhorse to examine him/her. He looks to the groom, Thomas, "’Ere Thomas, wha’s the name o’ the war’orse. Be it a mare?"
Nov 8, 2020 6:44 pm
Angel wanders around the pen looking at the riding horses in turn, spending a moment with each to see which seems to take an interest in him.

OOC:
@everyone: It's about 6:30pm, approaching 7pm now.
@Aldrusian: Angel buys a longbow (50g), 2 quivers of twenty arrows (6g since one quiver comes free with purchase of a bow), and a longsword (13g). He sets 69 gold on the counter and heads out to the barn with his companions.

@dominion451: The horses and mules are in really nice shape. It's evident that the groom may not be the best at sweeping all the floor inside the Trading Post, but he's pretty darn good at sweeping a small part of the floor inside and he takes caring for the livestock in the barn pretty seriously.

@TheFoxofFinch: "I 'aven't named the animals, ser," Thomas says. "I recon that's the business o' their owners."

@KCC69: As gilly looks over these great animals, giants to he small stature her eye catches movement in the back of one of the horse stables, which she thought was empty. From behind a stack of hay bales two ponies peek out at the party.
OOC:
Shame on me for forgetting to mention ponies.

Walking back into the main shop, Coulson speaks to Rannos "I reckon I’ll be takin’ the war’orse, and the lance at the price yer mentioned. I’d like one o them long swords you ‘av fer sale too"
Nov 8, 2020 9:14 pm
@TheFoxofFinch:
Rannos looks pleased at the coin Coulson provides, taking 325 gold for the horse, 13 for a long sword, and 7 gold for the lance, for a total of 345 gold.
OOC:
I'm adding the long sword to your encumbrance total for the time being, unless you correct me, but not the lance. I assume the dwarf isn't walking around with a lance everywhere he goes on foot and leaves it with his horse.
@Aldrusian:
OOC:
I have Angel carrying a short sword and a long sword now. Is that correct?

The sudden noise and shouting catches Eltrezar grasping at the last dregs of ale, mug over his face. While he was unable to catch any faces (due partially to the mug, but also his distance from any windows), he did have experience with handling fires. After all, one of the first lessons a magicker learns is to handle the results of early attempts at magic. Fires were especially common, and so the dowsing of a fire was an important lesson. 'The fire just started, so every second counts. I need to hurry and take control of this situation...'

With a sigh and a slow rise from his chair, Eltrezar moves with patience that belies his intentions. "Where is the nearest well? We will need water, and magnitudes of it," he yells to nobody in particular as he begins moving towards the door. 'Wait, Isolde!' His speed increases, and the urgency in his voice increases. "Water, where is it?!"

I put your post in a secret note for me, since the other PCs wouldn't know what's happening
"I believe there's a well by the stables," one of the tavern's patrons shouts heading out the door with Eltrezar. As Eltrezar rushes out the door to help bail water he sees the backs of two men about 125-150' away, grinning back at the tavern as they trot their horses away on the east road.

OOC:
Although I haven't heard back yet I assume Kelric will accept the horse so I'll need a total for 2 riding horses and either a mule or a pony depending on what Gilly wants as well as 3 saddles.

OOC:
Ponies cost... WTF... There's no prices for ponies in B/X D&D?!? How am I strictly halfling player and never noticed the books don't have a pony price? Ok, a pony is going to cost 35 gold. Same as the mule that kicks at the groom.

I'm going to go with the samesies rule that if you buy an animal to mount they'll throw in a saddle and a set of saddlebags for free. If any of you has access to the B/X rulebooks or the Old School Essentials books (which is 100% B/X D&D), or if we were sitting at a table together and you could use my books, you would have access to the prices of equipment and things, and from a meta aspect as a player you'd probably know that Rannos and Gremag are marking their prices up pretty significantly from what the prices in the books are. That's not me being a nasty DM, trying to smoke you out of the gnoll gold you scored; that's literally written into the Temple of Elemental Evil module (don't be reading that module though, please). So these dudes are definitely making some serious profit off you guys (and girls) right now, and throwing in a few things to sweeten a deal is not setting them back too much.

Knowing that he has only a moment before his chance is gone, Eltrezar takes a second to hold out his hand and points a finger at the nearest of the two men... and then slightly lowers the finger. Arcane utterances escape his lips as he summons his will into a visible arrow, which immediately flies off and strikes at the horse closest to him. He yells out "Stop those men!" as he turns and runs towards the stable, planning to save Isolde before attempting to put out the fire. 'It will take too long to put out the fire first. That will save the building, but not the horses.'

I do have PDF copies of all Basic material (Moldvay, BX, and the Rules Cyclopedia) and I'm very familiar with the old modules so I totally understand the mark-up. To be honest, thanks to The Trove I have PDF copies of pretty much every dnd product ever made lol

So we're looking at 235 gp regardless of whether Gilly takes a pony or a mule.
Sister Alice pays for the two riding horses and Gilly's mount and helps Kelric and Gilly to saddle the beasts should they ask.

Gilly spots the two ponies in the back and immediately makes a move for them, excitedly.

She stops herself, not wanting to seem rude to the mule. She bows a little, and rubs the mule under its chin and heads over to the ponies!

"THIS ONE! I need this one!!" she points to a chocolate brown pony with cream mane and tail.

She sloppily runs through the half remembered steps to check the beast, in her happiness!

"Yep! She’s a fine pony!"

I’m ready for a rightful quest!

Horses secured and provisions purchased, Alice mounts her new steed and spends some time letting the animal get used to her as she waits for the others to be ready. With the sun having set and the chill of the evening setting in, Alice feels eager to return to the inn and take her final meal of the day.
