The Air Up Thaere

Thaerian Navy Docks, Burnout - Orbiting Zham Hlar, Thaere System

As the Republic Navy made their preparations for departure, Bravo Squad stood before what had become their trusty shuttle in the much nicer environs of the Thaerian Navy's docking bay - in compared to the disrepair of the rest of the station that is - waiting patiently for Master Kota who was off to the side concluding some last minute instructions to a group of Navy officers. The fleet was to reinforce the Republic's efforts on Christophsis - the rescue of Senator Lotta Orviss of Ryndellia not the only trending item on the NewsNets as the Republic's victory at the beleaguered planet sharing the media limelight - while Master Kota would return to Denon with the Senators, leaving Bravo Squad to make their way back to base upon the shuttle.

With a nod and returning of salutes the grizzled Jedi Master turned, motioning towards a trooper who also had been waiting off to the side to join him, four datapads held in his strong hands. "Bravo Squad," he said by way of introduction, "Let me congratulate you all again on a job very well done." His steely gaze shifted to Cypher, Shadow, and Scrapper, "CS - 4244, LRS - 4669, and CS - 1424. You three are being reassigned ... each requested specifically by Strategic Command. Here are your orders." The Jedi Master handed each one of the datapads from his hand and indicated towards the Republic Fleet with his head. The trio saluted and quickly departed, leaving the lone trooper standing silently at the General's side. "CT - 1002 here will be joining Bravo and comes highly recommended from Commander Colt," he stated as he handed Arius the final datapad from his hands, "Senator Orviss also sends her warmest regards and told me to tell all of you ... that if you ever needed anything ... to not hesitate in reaching out." With a small smile the grizzled Jedi Master offered a small bow of respect and turned, barely making three steps from the Squad before joined by other groups of Navy personnel and Thaerian representatives all vying for his attention.
OOC:
And we're off :-)

Hopefully it's clear that - as discussed - Cypher, Shadow, and Scrapper have been reassigned.

Also welcome to your new squadmate Arius (as played by Aspiroth).

@everyone - Please include a Roll of (1) [Force] die in your next post to determine the collective Destiny Pool.

@everyone - Arius's Duty has been triggered. All characters (utilizing the Duty mechanic that in this case is Arius, Lucky, and Knuckles) increase their Wound Threshold by (1) while Arius whose Duty was triggered gains an additional (+1) to his Wound Threshold (for a total of 2).

CT-1002, who was uniformed impeccably, but rather incongrously carrying the badly-singed blaster cannon of a mini spider droid over his left shoulder, salutes the group.

The clone was rather more muscular than the average, but not extremely so. He did make a very solid and reliable impression, however. Not very imaginative, perhaps? There was certainly not a spark of friendliness or humour in his eye.

"CT-1002. Arius, reporting for duty!"

He looked around the motley crew, not sure who he was reporting to, but sure that the commander would see fit to introduce himself.
OOC:
Well, that's going to improve my welcome no end!

Lucky, or CT-1224, nods respectfully to Arius and leaves to the Sergeant and the Commanders to introduce the squad. An perceptive observer could notice an subtle inward smile at the corner of his lips though. The serious attitude of the new trooper reminded him of himself only a short time ago.

A lot had happened since the beginning of this war and even more so since he was reassigned to Bravo squad. He had spent the last few weeks dealing regularly with civilians, Jedi and even Senators. It had been quite an adaptation, however he was getting the hang of dealing with the chaotic mess of conflicting perspectives and convictions of the non Regs. Mind you, he still thought that if civvies and politicians and half the sense of a Shiny, they would not have needed a clone army to clean up the mess, but hey, they were not all BLOB after all.

Now he was eager to get back in the field, this war would not win itself.

Ani moves before Arius and salutes the new soldier, welcoming him to Bravo, and introducing herself before giving him a quick rundown of the other squad-mates. But in short order she's standing at attention with her team, waiting for their briefing from command.

Wals is temporarily relieved by the appearance of Master Kota, but as the general is swept up by the proceedings, the sense of calm retreated somewhat. The curt address was somewhat disheartening, and their brief meeting was destined to be followed by another extended separation.

He was left somewhat cold with the idea that he had done good work. It certainly felt like he'd let things get out of hand. But he would have to settle for a debriefing in lieu of mentorship. Such was war, he supposed.

He took a breath, then released it, glad as Ani stepped forward to greet the new trooper. He was sure he would want to catch up with his brothers in any case. There would be plenty of time to learn this new... ...face?

Thaerian Navy Docks, Burnout - Orbiting Zham Hlar, Thaere System

As the Republic Fleet departed, followed closely by the Senators and Master Kota, the Troopers and their Jedi Commanders could almost feel the ancient rusty station collectively release a relieved breath. Clearly the increased military presence, particularly the more 'official' Republic variety was - while not overtly aggressive - perhaps not as welcome as they would believe both by the fringe as well as their Thaerian Navy allies.

To make matters worse, tensions in Cularin - a neighboring system with a bit of history with Thaere - were rising. In the wake of the recent media coverage over the rescue of Senator Orviss of Ryndellia, emboldened perhaps by their perceived or at least credited part in the recovery, the Thaerian Navy has stepped up patrols. Ships going into and out of Cularin are frequently stopped and searched, a practice that makes many Cularin citizens nervous. While the Thaerians do posses a Senatorial charter to protect Cularin, their methods are rumored to often leave something to be desired.

Welcome to Burnout as they say, which the Thaerian government allows to exist because of its usefulness. Meetings can take place out of the public's eye, deals can be sealed away from prying ears, and beings can be 'lost' without fear of being found. Not a place that would stomach the presence of the Republic's newly formed military and the legal representation of the Senators for long.

As Bravo Squad turned, eager perhaps to secure their shuttle and depart the ancient, rusty hive of scum and villainy, they could not help but notice a somewhat nervy Trandoshan walking rapidly from the direction of the shuttle. As the bulky humanoid risked an anxious glance over his shoulder he stumbled over a bin of parts with a loud crash. With a hissed curse he quickly picked his self up and with a final glance towards the Squad took off at a run.
OOC:
From the squad's limited exposure to Burnout they know it is a very old station in a constant state of disrepair. The Navy Docks where the shuttle is parked currently, while still far from being called nice, seemed however to be secure and only Republic and Thaerian Navy personnel allowed in.

"My, my. Can that guy act any more suspiciously?"
Lucky ask at no one in particular.
Oct 29, 2020 3:09 am
Knuckles farewells his brothers before walking up to the new recruit and giving him a slap on the back, "Welcome it is nice to have another brother join us." He gives CT-1002 a smile as he move back into ranks next to Lucky as the Jedi move forward to speak.

He stands quietly as they speak and smiles broadly as Lucky makes his comment, "He’s not a spy Lucky, he’s a brother. A strong one by the looks of that cannon on his shoulder, might provide a challenge at the training mats." His eye shifting to the bazaar character tripping over himself. "Now that guy is a spy if I ever saw one," He says with a bit of a humour "T'doshoks are seeking . . . Oh you meant the T’doshok!"

On the realisation of what Lucky is pointing out Knuckles give chase . . .

Seuss, is our shuttle like open, or anything? And how "in the area" of the shuttle was he?

OOC:
The shuttle was open - though the Nu-class shuttles open in the front whereas the Trandoshan was around the rear. So it's hard to tell at this point if he had been aboard or not.

That being said he was right at the shuttle (i.e. within touching distance).

Arius looks at Knuckles, and nods, but doesn't return the smile as he moves over to join their ranks. He grounds the heavy weapon with a curt grunt of relief, and looks around the area, his eyes follow the inept-looking reptilian humanoid as his comrades continue their discussion.

As Knuckles finally disappears in chase, he turns to Lucky, and then to Ani.

"Permission to check the shuttle, or join chase, sir?"

He wasn't sure they should all run off. Maybe the fellow was meant to be a distraction - he certainly didn't appear very competent as a spy, or saboteur. Not that that meant he wasn't one.

Ani blinks several times at the openness of the trandoshan's suspicious behavior, half expecting it to explain itself without prompting, but when it takes off running so does she, along with Knuckles.

Gesturing to Arius, "C'mon, new guy! Everyone else stay with the ship!"
Oct 30, 2020 7:01 pm
Wals saw Ani take off, his eyeline following the Trandoshan making his rapid and awkward exit. He took a half step towards them, as his fellow Padawan called back, stopping short. He turned towards the remaining troopers, a claw running through the fur along his jawline.

"All... all right, I think she has the intruder under control. The rest of you, search the ship with me. There might be a bug or a tracker... or a bomb..."

"Yes, sir!"

Lucky head vigilantly toward the shuttle. He looks for anything out of place.

Looooong weekend that started Thursday and did not conclude until Sunday night at 10:00 PM ... but I digress
As Ani, Arius, and Knuckles race off in pursuit of the suspicious Trandoshan, the remaining squad conducts a quick survey of the shuttle. Their heavy footfalls rattle the shuttle's ramp, loud in the near quiet docking bay, as they stalk aboard, eyes immediately scanning for anything that looks tampered with or out of place. Collectively they could almost sense each others relief at finding everything seemingly in order with everything in its place and none of the access panels or hatches open - until one of them had the presence of mind to fire the shuttles powerful engines. The engine whirred briefly before whining to silence, failing to fire - a quick follow up search revealing that the PU-36 modulator and ignition chip is missing thus rendering the shuttle useless until replaced.

Sprinting through the corridor one thing is clear ... the place is old. Very old. From their recent debriefings and Edite the Squad knows at least one hundred years old, and it looks to have been that long since it was cleaned. Dirt, rust, and grime are probably all that holds this station together. Stale air tumbles from the overworked scrubbers.

Yet Ani and the pair of troopers race on through dim corridors, chasing the elusive being up ahead. They barely make out the top of the Trandoshan's head bobbing above the crowd, that almost seems to be rooting the saboteur on with some pointed comments directed at the Republic troopers despite the culprit barreling his way through Burnout's dwellers.

Glimpsing their quarry as he pushes his way past a couple of Zabrak and through swinging double doors, the trooper and their Jedi commander couldn't help but notice the bright, flickering, neon-colored glow panel above the door that reads 'Cafetorium'. Through the closing doors, bad music and worse odors wash over them.
OOC:
RL was a bit of a bear last week so hopefully I can get on a more consistent posting schedule. Our post rate of me posting every other day seems to be comfortable for everyone so I will try and stick to it ... even if we are only missing one or two posts from you all.

Hopefully self explanatory? It appears the Trandoshan has taken the ignition chip for the shuttle and made a run for it.

@emsquared, Aspiroth, and Mathfuric - We can assume that the information about the chip will be passed along by the others over comms so Ani, Arius, and Knuckles should be aware of the situation.

@TheVagrant and GreyGriffin - Lucky and Wals can join the others if they would like. I think we can assume Sarge will stick with the shuttle (and probably giving the Thaerian Navy the 'what for' regarding their 'security' of their landing bay).
Nov 2, 2020 10:42 pm
Ignition switch, really? Someone went through a lot of trouble to mildly inconvenience a heavily armed GAR's squad. If it was a trap, it was a complex layered one that the trooper didn't see. If it was not, then it was a pretty desperate move.

"Commander, the target has taken refuge in an establishment. I suggest we go take position at the exits point in case the squad flush him out."
Nov 3, 2020 10:41 am
"Shall we split the bar in three? Commander take the middle while Arius and I take a side each." Knuckles says as he scans the crowd, "This way we can cover each other and search effectively and quickly."

Cool, Ani's concern when asking the others to stay behind was that, given the Trandoshan's overtness, that he was a distraction meant to draw us away from the ship, so that something worse could be done to it.

Seems like we have the GM's assurance that isn't what's going on.
Ani nods in agreement with Knuckles' words, " It doesn't seem like stealth is this guys strength, he seems more like bait... so be wary of a trap...", and with that she moves into the cantina.
Nov 3, 2020 3:13 pm
"Just be careful. We don't want him to get desperate and hurt civilians."

He nodded towards Lucky. "Overwatch would be a good idea. Let us know if he leaves... or if it looks like his friends are arriving." He turned towards the dockside bar, pulling up his hood. "Keep a channel open."

He hunched his shoulders a little, trying to blend into the crowd, keeping an eye out for the Trandoshan... or anyone that might have been making moves at the sight of a group of Clone troopers.
