Ah well as for mysteries and/or puzzles the key is to supply enough clues that an industrious party has a means to figure it out -- and/or have the mystery resolve itself should the players ignore it -- in a manner that obviously shows the answer but in a detrimental way to encourage perhaps not ignoring the next one ;)

But I will state if I provide a mystery/puzzle -- there will be ways (and not a single way) to find the answers that you seek

I enjoy a bit of combat and also role-play, developing my character and interacting with other players and the NPCs. I agree with Aquafina in that Puzzles are ok - but not too many of them!

Also I quite like heroic campaigns, I have played bad guys before and enjoyed it but I like games where the players are all basically on the same side, even if they don't always get on.

Like Aquafina and Dankel I enjoy combat and role-play - interacting with players and NPCs. I share their views about mysteries and puzzles but if they are in a good context (having a purpose in the plot), and in the way your last post suggests then these could be OK but as Dankel says 'not too many of them'.

I like character development, including levelling up and getting new abilities. Acquiring magic items can be an intriguing part of this.

Above all I enjoy 'being in a book'. I like there to be a plot where the adventure and the actions of the party are part of a story (or stories) which lead on to developments in the narrative. I also like the idea of some of the party's actions having an effect on the world and being a part of the development in the story/stories.

Okay I have been thinking about it and decided to look into the various Background Features -- as I have felt that some are definitely better than others and some are just a GMs nightmare. Further I have noticed that many players gravitate to the seemingly more useful ones rather than picking one for its flavor -- note not all just most thus far.

So basically I am going to try and balance them out and make them all have something useful to enhance a character that is themed to the background and the description of their current featurettes -- I have updated the Outlander in House Rules but I will -- along with the other things that deal with character creation be moving it to the Character Creation thread as these can be then copied to the character sheet with the abilities they grant. I of course will appreciate any feedback or ideas on how to make the various backgrounds more useful and less a GM headache. :)

If you feel a different background would have better suited your character but felt the benefit was just sub-par please say something now and let me know what background you would have liked had it had a more robust feature on par with some of the others.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself here! I'm new to PbP but have done plenty of RP in other formats (Tabletop, LARP, etc). I'm looking forwards to playing with you all, just need a little time to read all the info/get up to speed on everything and roll up my character :)

Okay just want to remind (or inform) the players that this game is a combination of sandbox and assignments which is to say you can go any where you want and interact with anyone or anything you want.

I have some preset assignments and I have many stumble across preset adventures and I let the dice talk so that means sometimes none-preset-adventures might pop up. I also have red-herrings from time to time but not to many of those, however, there are mysteries to be solved some that can be handled in a single adventure others that take much longer to unravel.

If you as a player want to try something feel free to do so but again I remind you that I let the dice speak (or in this case that pseudo random number generator) and sometimes one has to understand when one is in way over their head without a breathing device.

Still the ultimate is to have fun -- if you find something is not to your liking let me know -- but please just because you have not solved every mystery in a few posts do not despair there is usually some method to my overall madness so strive on and see what may happen.

So I am going to ask you up front do you one a simple but hard straight forward mission that might get convoluted depending on what you do or do you want a not has difficult but a bit more mystifying adventure.

Oh and lastly remember be careful not to judge a book by its cover and that goes for adventures as well ;)
Jan 16, 2021 3:55 pm
Sounds great! I think a not as difficult mission would be good as a start. That way we could get used to our characters a bit before going all in without a breathing device lol

Excited to be starting and sounds well thought out with depth. I agree with Aquafina regarding the start as this will give us an opportunity to get used to our characters and I am still relatively new to AD&D5e.

PS - please see my last post in my character discussion thread.

Oh btw the way folks -- a Waterskin is only a 1/2 days ration of liquid which is not a problem if you can refill it during the day -- and when it comes to Liquid vs Food you can go longer without Food than you can Liquid. I say Liquid because a Waterskin can hold Wine as well and Wine is as good as Water for providing the necessary Liquid one needs. Note not saying you need Wine just pointing out it is an option.

Is this game still going?

Yes it is still going was waiting on a post - I can move things forward

Okay not sure if this affects anyone in this game but I have updated all the Backgrounds associated with any that a player has taken thus far so if yours has not been addressed as of yet it should be and you might want to take a look.

Also for Unarmed Combat I have update that in the Weapons Table but to sum it up
.... Simple Weapons version (which everyone has regardless of class) has Finesse and does 1d3-1 plus Dex/Str Mod
.... Martial Weapons version (folks you have taken or have all Martial Weapons) has Finesse and does 1d4 plus Dex/Str Mod

The Tavern Brawler Feat simply upgrades a Simple Weapons version to the Martial Weapons version and I may look into a Feat to augment the Martial Weapon version if any becomes interested in such.

Okay due to recent events it has come to light that the price for magic item consumables is inconsistent and as such I am applying a consistency aspect to them so that I can more easily calculate their values and this can give you all a means of getting an idea of what a magic item might be worth.

First : Spell Level of the Effect x 100gp
Second : Casting Level of the Effect if not equal to Spell Level an additional +50gp per level
Third : Consumables cost half as much

For instance a Healing Potion cast at 3rd level would cost as follows
1st Level Spell Effect -- 100gp
3rd Level Casing ------- +50gp x2
Consumable Magic Item -- (100gp +100gp) / 2 = 100gp

Note this currently only applies to Spell Effect Levels from 1st through 3rd -- upon entering 4th and above I have to refactor this in order to make sure those magic items get the appropriate costing structure. I will be trying to make a list of the magic item consumables that are not Scrolls and pricing them out -- however if anyone wants to lend a hand please do as that would just speed things up.

Also if you did purchase a Scroll at the 100gp -- you can use the 50gp refund for another scroll or you can apply it some other magic consumable if you like -- in short you get the refund but you must use it or lose it as previous
