Part 3: Investigating the Moathouse Ruins

Eltrezar goes to collect the jug of oil, his mind wandering towards alchemical weapons that could be produced with this. Of course, providing light might be a better use.

Hrmph! "Agreed. We can finish exploring this level tomorrow or the following day, and then discover what secrets are held in the depths of this ruin."

Deciding it would be most wise to return to Hommlet to heal and rest, and finish investigating the rest of the ground floor and the basement later, the party leaves the storage room and hall way and returns to the great hall, where the bandits' horses, the accumulated loot, and Sister Alice's body wait.

It takes a bit of time to get the horses loaded with all of the gear and loot, and the celebratory feeling of having endured and survived so many formidable foes this day is dampened to a somber tone wen it’s finally time to thrpow Alice’s body on one of the horses, further darkened by the reminder that only this morning the dwarf Coulsen was fighting by your side.
This sense of sorrow is perhaps felt most deeply by Angel, realizing he’s the only remaining member of the party that set out from Verbobonc only two days ago to escort a wagon of wheels to Hommlet’s blacksmith.

The horses loaded and ready to go, the party sets out through the main gate guiding the animals over the rickety, rotting drawbridge. Here they collect their own steed, tied and waiting and continue on..
While it took two hours to get to the Moathouse Ruins, the trip back takes only an hour, the reeds, cattails, and tallgrass having been bushwhacked away already, and the party arrives at the eastern edge of Hommlet by around 4pm.
As you trot your animals along the road, a number of villagers look up to you, and you see their faces filled with concern and a bit of sadness. Many had seen or heard of Coulson’s return earlier in the day and word spread fast. To see Alice’s body being carried in as well now hits harder and the town begins to generate an atmosphere on grimness in the party’s wake. They may not have known who you were when you set out earlier this morning, but they feel your loss and and a sense of dread begins to stir at the thought that something so near their town has taken well-armed amd armored adventurers of your kind.

Many villagers begin pressing Elmo for answers, but Elmo, now fairly sobered up, gives them nothing but answers of the "All will come out soon" variety. As you arrive at the town square in front of the inn Elmo turns to you. "If yeh’ll be so kind as t’ excuse me, I have some matters to attend to. I think I’ll ‘ave me a ‘orn or two o’ ale at the tavern, then I ‘ave t’make a report wi’ the village’s militia and fill them in on what occurred out there t’day. Then I think I’ll visit mehself a ladyfrien’ I ‘ave up north, and ‘ave a bit of a roll-aroun’ wi’ her. I should be gone for abou’ five or six days. If yeh need me services, come and find me after tha’. I’ll be keepin’ the bar from levitatin’ to the tavern’s ceilin’ no doubt."
With that, he gives his horse a little click and heads to the inn’s stables.

You now stand in the square alone together, a few villagers standing by watching you with somber expressions.
