@Oddtrails, I have a 23 year old son, and an 11 year old son. At this point I'm not sure who's done more dumb things, them or me, but yeah patience, I think we can scrounge some up. :)
So, New to SW, not a big deal - you've seen a movie or two, it's Space Opera, bigger than life - Kind of what FireFly was going after, and got.
New to the Fantasy Flight Games version of SW - It's a different take than the previous versions - it's a Narrative game - That's a fancy way of saying that rather than the traditional - GM says "you see a dragon" and you say "I fight it" , You can use Triumphs to input your version of what happens. As with all game mechanics, it can take a minute before your brain wraps around the possibilities. There are plenty of good examples in the game books, but when you roll a Triumph or Despair, I always found that if you visualize the scene and think "what good (or bad), random (action movie) kind of thing could happen" that you'll start seeing possibilities for affecting the Story. Lots of gear has bonuses that can only activate on at Triumph and social skills have some pre-defined options, but the gist of the system is let your imagination flow. The 'table' can always call BS if it's too much or 'breaks' the feel of the game. Don't be afraid to throw it out there. Most of the best stories come after you've jumped off the cliff and before you figure out how to land, in one piece.
