Quite bulky, very dark skinned and mostly bold human in his late 40, fixes his glasses and his gray sturdy trench coat with cybernetic hand.

"I'm Scott. As Petra says we have here some Pirates issues"

Dotty smiles and waves from behind the doctor and captain, "Dorothea Astankova." She’s dressed in a long sleeved hoodie, pants and gloves. Her eyes are both clearly mechanical replacements. "Pleasure to meet you, I think."

"Outstanding! We are in need of an Engineer as well, it seems, as a gunnery expert. That is if you or anyone else is looking for a new posting. I am Adonis Clemment, pilot by trade and anything else by necessity."

'I ain't gonna wait for that bloody pirates to beam me to the orbit with one of their damn guns. I'm not a soldier but I can fix one or two electronic things..or blow them up if you prefer that kind of service' Says Scott

Excellent she says after you've introduced yourself. She smiles but you can see that she looks very tired.
Please follow me to my office so that I can fill you in on the details.
On the way to one of the larger building she gives you an introduction to the planet and how the research camp came to be.

Her office also seems to be a meeting room of some sort. At one side is her desk which is dominated by a wall of monitors that is nearly as high as an average human. On the other side of the room is a large table with monitors fitted into the surface and a large video wall at the end
She beckons you to sits down at the table, sits down at her own desk and presents a map of the region on the video wall.

As you can see the remote camp is not too far away. The pirates get a food delivery from us about once per week. We can have a short talk with the hostages in turn. They seem to let the hostages work at the remote side. Probably they want to unearth artifacts that they can sell later on.
The pirate ship crashed about here.
We discovered some erratic behaviour of the pirates in the last week. We see fewer guards and they seemed to be very nervous during our last food delivery. I really fear that they are losing their nerves and hurt the hostages

We have a bit of technical equipment and some weapons here that you can use. Ask away what you need and I'll see if we can organize something.
We have these weapons available.

She makes a list of weapons appear on the monitors at the table.

Does Pirx know anything more relating to the reason why pirates are getting nervous? Some gossips etc?

Well not from the get go but you can make a Knowledge/Streetwise check to see if you caught up on some gossips

Rolling tactics to see if ChiHiRu has noticed some details of the bandits position he can share with the groups. (Numbers, sentry spots, type of weapon, military training or sloppyness etc.)

Rolls

Tactics - (4d6+1)

(6116) + 1 = 15

Wild die? - (1d6, RA)

(1) = 1

ChiHiRu remembers that a total of 5 or 6 pirates were present during his last food delivery to the remote camp.
Two of them accepted the food delivery while the rest nervously guarded the hostages.
The two that guarded you had some kind of rifle while the rest had handguns or melee weapons.
OOC:
Wild die Indeed ! :D

ChiHiRu shows is tablet and add the tactical information he know on it for everyone to see.

Do you always meet at the same place? I am thinking if they do not know we are here, we can take up positions nearby and when they trade with you we can work to liberate the prisoners as they will not be expecting us.

"We arrived in a starship and they’re a kilometre from where we are now." Dotty points out as she looks at the sky, "I’m pretty sure they know we’re here."

"I mean who knows," she says with a shrug, "they could be idiots."

Well, they are pirates, so formal schooling might not have been up their alley. Looking around the room, Jeff continues, Five or six suddenly seems manageable. Maybe someone can get them talking about a way out of here. They have to be trying to come up with a way to get back to space, maybe we can offer a deal to help them on their way. Heck, if it's reasonable enough, we don't even have to double cross them.

They always stop the electric car we use to transport supplies before it can enter the camp. While one or two of the pirates search the electric car for traps or hidden soldiers another one secures the area with a drawn rifle. After this procedure the drive of the car can enter the camp and have short chat with the hostages. The procedure was always the same and we entered through the same spot. As the temple complex is located in a small valley you can't really approach it from a different side. If you use the electric car at least. Dr. Salmberg answers

She turns to Jeff, rubs her eyes and sighs. We talked about this beforehand. This is quite a risky approach. If they suddenly see someone who may be capable of challenging them and who "just wants to talk to them" they could loose their nerves and shoot everyone

@Bdciopp: Unfortunatly you can't roll the wild die in this situation. But you still have a very good roll.

Regarding the wild die rule:
If you play D6 physically you always have a die of a different colour that is called the wild die.
We don't have rolls of different colour here so we use the first die that appears at a roll as the wild die.
If it's a 1 you lose your highest die and the wild die.
If it's a 6 you can roll again. If you can keep rolling as long as you keep rolling sixes.

Examples:

4d6 - (4, 5, 1, 6)=16
Wild die is a 4 and the roll is unaffected

4d6 - (1, 5, 4, 6)=16
Wild die is a 1. You lose the value of the wild die and your highest dice bringing the total down to 9

4d6 - (6, 5, 1, 4)=16
Wild die is a 6. You can roll another d6 and add it to your total. If you roll a 6 again you can keep rolling until you roll something lower

I assume Scott advantage - "Fame" - could get handy in receiving that drone data from that "old friend" ;)

Oh ok so what I did was split my chara 4 knowledge dice to 3 and 1 as i thought i should mark die that way. Sorry for mixing up
Scott checks his palm top You know I may know someone who has some nice bird's-eye view photos of pirate camps. Do you want me to get them? He looks at ChiHiRu oh right.. flying living creature with feathers and two eyes-eye view

Definitely, the more information we have to plan the better it will be. As for them thinking a ship is here, we could always blast off and reenter elsewhere then fly low back here. If asked you can say that we were simple merchants and didn't want to get involved and left to protect themselves.

Might be good to hide the ship anyway just in case they try something stupid.

Scott will reach his colleague, collect the data and share it with the crew
Mar 2, 2021 8:48 pm
Scott reaches out to his colleague with a short message and five minutes later he gets an aerial photo of the camp accompanied by a message:
Ey, Scotty! Glad you reached out. Hope something gets done now. With all due respect but Salmberg was just twiddeling her thumbs.
I sent you the best picture I have. I circled the soldiers. At this time there only where four but I counted more on the other photos. We send the supplies in through the canyon in the south. In the north is the center of the temple complex. Apparently Dave had a hatch installed over the entrance to the underground part of it.

"I'm not so sure that explanation will work. I brought our bird in at a very low angle. They will wonder why the merchants approached so surreptitiously then left so blatantly. But that's neither here nor there. More importantly are the captives being held underground? I see the 4 guards with circles around them but I also see what looks to be someone standing in the middle of one of the bridges and another person standing next to the hatch to the underground area. Who are they?"
