Elly swings her cello in a defensive startle narrowly avoiding hitting most of her teammates, swearing in Elvish while trying to get her feet to work. "Puktasuni mí muk! That thing is alive?!"

Muril is quite startled by the moving corpse.

OOC:
Initiative order:

1. Raktasha and Elly

2. Corpse

3. Ralen and Muril

Raktasha and Elly, you're up first. Either of you can go first, and you both act before the corpse.

Ralen and Muril, you can wait until after the corpse goes to see what happens (it doesn't matter what order you go in with respect to each other), or if you don't think what other people do will change your action, you can go ahead and post earlier (but your turn won't happen until after the corpse).
Apr 23, 2016 6:33 am
Worry lines crease Elly's face. Must maintain composure. Must maintain composure. The mantra is already sounding in her ears as she summons the strength back into her bow arm and begins to beckon music forth from it. Matching the creepiness creeping into her fingers, she summons forth a toccata aiming its turgid strains at Raktasha, inspiring him to hopefully remove the offending creep.

She hits a few more notes before adding with a wry smile, "You know you're a dead ringer for a cat I used to know back home. Smell just a bad too."

She squeezes herself to one side of the corridor while playing slap for the rest of the fugue.

The corpse looked at Elly momentarily, one hand going to its head before steeling itself to try another attack.
OOC:
The corpse failed its save, takes 4 damage, and has disadvantage on its next attack roll.

"Well this is unnatural!" Raktasha screams but quiets down as he hears the strings of the cello.

Although it's been years since Rak has actually fought in a battle he's maintained his training and quickly falls into action.

Raktasha swings quickly with his quarterstaff at the head of the undead and then drops a knee into the chest.

Raktasha smacked the corpse squarely in the head with the end of his quarterstaff. The zombie staggered under the attack, and Raktasha swiftly spun and hit the corpse in the chest. It took a step back, having trouble maintaining its footing, and then lunged forward at Raktasha once again. It missed entirely, stumbling to the side.

Terrified of this abomination, Ralen creeps behind the corpse while his companions draw its attention. When the moment presents itself, he lunges forward with his rapier.

Muril, impressed by much of what he is seeing in the party, claps his hands and lets out a holler. "Looky here at me, ya nasty batch of buzzard bait!" he yelled at the thing, hoping to distract it from going after Ralen. Then he draws out his morningstar to give it a proper thunk on the head.
OOC:
I get advantage because Ralen is engaged with it, right? If not we'll just go with the first roll of the two.

Rolls

Morningstar Attack (Advantage) - (1d20+4)

(18) + 4 = 22

Morningstar Attack (Advantage) - (1d20+4)

(10) + 4 = 14

Damage - (1d8+2)

(8) + 2 = 10

Apr 23, 2016 7:13 pm
Ralen's rapier stabbed the corpse squarely in its chest, and it slumped forward, the life suddenly draining out of it. Muril swung his morningstar down on the corpse's head, and it dropped to the ground, lifeless once again.
OOC:
@13zeros You can advantage if we use the optional flanking rules. The rule is basically, if you are flanking the target (on the opposite side of the target from an ally), then you get advantage on your attacks. The downside is just that when playing without a grid, it can be a little hard to keep track of who's flanking and who isn't, and of course, if the players get advantage for flanking, then so do the enemies. It's really up to you guys if you want to use it or not. I don't mind either way.

Also @laserhamster1, it doesn't really matter because you guys killed the zombie regardless, but for the future, you can add your sneak attack damage (1d6 for level 1 Rogues) to your normal weapon damage when you have an ally in melee with the target you're attacking. Raktasha would have still been in melee with the corpse, so you could have added sneak attack damage, even though you didn't have advantage on the attack. It didn't matter for this battle, but just so you know in the future.
Apr 23, 2016 7:14 pm
OOC:
Oh, oops. I just uh.... knew I'd do enough damage anyway! Yeah.
Apr 23, 2016 10:20 pm
OOC:
Haha, you certainly did do enough damage!
Apr 23, 2016 10:57 pm
Knowing that these creatures are often caused by some sort of emanation of evil, be it one of arcane or divine origin, Elly begins to look for clus of any circumstances she can surmise. "Hold that torch steady! No need to flip now that the things head has been crushed in." She uses her bow to push debris about and lift up a limb here and there. As she checks about she tries to figure out the cause for this creature. "Would you look at this . . . " She says as she flips her cello back and digs into her pack to find a pen and some paper to take notes with.

Rolls

Arcana +4 - (1d20+4)

(9) + 4 = 13

Apr 23, 2016 11:14 pm
Elly examined the corpse, now lying lifeless on the floor. She knew that the dead could be reanimated by a spellcaster, but it appeared that this corpse reanimated only if touched. The arcane magic reanimating it appeared to have been spent, however, and the corpse is once again just a corpse.
Apr 23, 2016 11:24 pm
Her lips with odd black lines and blotches where she smeared a bit of ink as she bit her pen at intervals, Elly peers up at her teammates ". . . apparently this fat cat here is a loner of sorts. A gin-u-wine anomaly. I love a good mystery!" She finishes up her notes and stuffs everything back into their appropriate places. "Hope we run into a few more of these daddios and I'll get some real finger zingin info to bring back home."
Apr 23, 2016 11:29 pm
"So it's dead... err dead dead?" I don't think I'll be checking anymore corpses for clues. I'm too old to get startled like that.
Raktasha leans on his quarter staff and appears ready to continue.
"That bone pile did get a hit in, but It'll clear up"
Apr 25, 2016 9:26 pm
OOC:
You are all about 60ft into the tunnel (away from the entrance). In front of you, you can see the opening to a cavern, about 15ft in front of you. If you all want to move forward, just let me know your marching order.
Apr 25, 2016 9:32 pm
"That was a real hum dinger but I don't think we should slow our stride because of some daddio that can't stay dead. Which one of you is taking the front?" She looks back and forth between Muril and Ralen. "Muril, you've got the armor in case anything comes crashing out of the dark again but Ralen, you've got the know how of what to look out for I'm guessin'. Which one of you two want to walk where the zombies can get a good bite at ya?"
Apr 25, 2016 10:04 pm
Ralen looks at Muril.

"Oh sure, I'll do it."
Apr 25, 2016 10:10 pm
"I've got the eyes that can see in this place. so I follow close to the young rogue."

Raktasha crowds the old rogue keeping close enough to nudge him with his quarterstaff.
