OOC:
@ Sorrack: Dismantling the memory cores of servers of unknown alien design will be at the very least a 3-point extended check (referee's handbook p.23) with a -10 penalty. This would have resulted in your 77 being a critical failure, but since Sam is helping (see below), it makes it a critical success instead. This will count as 2 successes so far, so you have 1 last check to make.

@ Sam: Yes: Helping provides a +10 to the leader's check if your own skill is within 10 points of the leader's (referee's handbook p.23). Despite the size of the servers, electronic components tend to be rather small and delicate, so I declare that only one person can help Sorrack (Sam). Anyone else "helping" can simply choose a different server and attempt their own 3-points extended check.

The dismantling goes really well so far, thanks to Sam's help. For some odd reason, despite the alien nature of the server, to components seem rather intuitive to Sorrack... There is still some work left to do, however.

Sorack bulges out various parts of his anatomy, a sort of cracking-of-the-knuckles like response, and then continues to work. "Right, hold that wire there, it might be live, so don't ... yeah, you got it."

It takes several long minutes, and you're half expecting an attack from crabs... but eventually, Sorrack is confident he has safely extracted the memory cores from the servers... Well, at least he thinks they're memory cores... And no signs of the crabs.

So we got what we needed out of this room time to check out the other room. Let's do it the same way as before when we enter.
Jan 11, 2022 10:18 pm
You make your way to the larger of the two rooms on this floor. The opening is facing the lift... however the door is missing. You're struggling to recollect whether this door had always been missing and you were just too busy calming Kandza down when you found her that you never noticed it, or if perhaps the crabs might have broken it down when they swarmed into the hallway...

Looking through the opening, you notice the room seems to be flooded with brackish water which has leaked from a large tank full of melted holes. The floor of this room seems to be lower than where you are currently standing as you can spot at least one step through the brackish water. There is not way to know how deep the water gets by just looking at it...

"Water!" Sorrack says, and absorbing all the gear and memory cores into his membrane encased liquid body, splashes happily into the fluid.

OOC:
Hum, Q, I must remind you that Dralasites have Water Weakness. Here's what it says: "Although they can hold their breath and swim just like all other species, Dralasites won't float without spending several minutes preparing by creating air pockets within their bodies. Also, because they breathe through their skin directly, they will drown if submersed (even partially) in water while unconscious."

So yeah, you'll basically sink like a rock, and since the water is brackish, you won't see where you're going... Just a heads up, that might turn up ugly for you...

OOC:
Ack, retreat, retreat!
Sorrack gets to the edge of the water, and splashes his foot shakes pseudo pod on it. "This doesn't look good. Anyone care to scan it, and see what was in those tanks?"

I don't have the equipment to scan it. Is it even worth it? I am all for gathering salvage but we are a little banged up as a group. diving into who knows what doesn't seem to smart. I mean I guess we could lower a rope out as far as we can hang it to see if we can get a depth but other than going in, I doubt we will find anything.

"Where's the damn thing?... I don't think I dropped it somewhere... For the love of.. Hey! There it is!"

Mesec takes out an infrared scanner from his backpack and presents it to the rest of the group in a theatrical manner.

"Let's see what else I have here..."

In turn, Mesec pulls out a Torchlight and a length of rope.

"See, this is getting tied up with that and they'll be used as a line and bait"
he said pointing at the last two things out from his backpack.

"Then, it's this "whachucallem's" time to shine; if there's anything bellow, it should pick it up."

He was flashing them a mad grin as he got to work, ready to send the lit torchlight in the water.
OOC:
I'll be using the active scan, so that's -2EU from it's included battery pack.

Mesec activates his infrared sensor which produces a ping and maps heat signatures in a 5 kilometres radius. Aside from yourselves, there aren't many heat signatures left in the compound, and judging by their size and shapes, and the fact they seem immobile, the remaining heat signatures seem to indicate machinery. Still that doesn't rule out cold-blooded organisms (which makes Mesec hope those crabs were warm-blooded just so he can finally have some good news...). There also seem to be a heat map from outside the compound, which would indicate the doors have opened up again (and of course, the heat signature of the Dawn Star is visible).

Mesec then proceed to phase two of his "let's find out what's in the murky pool plan" by deftly securing the torchlight to his rope, and expertly throwing it exactly where he wanted to (showing you the pond to be quite shallow actually, maybe a meter in depth at most). Then with great skill, imitates the motion of some living being in distress. You wait for something to happen... and nothing... If there was something alive in there, it would have shown some interest to the motion of the strange light in the water... You are all now assured that there is no danger waiting for you in that water. Well, none of a big angry toothy beast category, at least...
Jan 16, 2022 6:51 pm
"Oh, very clever, young Mesec. Very clever indeed. I see there isn't much in there. Well, if there isn't anyone alive, then we are finished looking for the crew members then. Unless they're in cryopods."

Samantha takes a sample of the water and tests it using the her medkit and if needed anything from her techkit to test the water to see if there is anything dangerous in it.

An Explorer's kit might have been more appropriate for that, but I guess a medical kit could also work. I'll just state that it takes 2 provisions since you're not identifying a malady/poison/disease/toxin from a patient, but instead out of a water sample. It'll also take 30 minutes, just like diagnosing a patient...
Sam takes some water sample and examines them. It takes a bit of improvisation, and some time, but she manages to determine that the water is definitely not safe to consume. It would not be dangerous to go in the water, however, as there does not seem to be any contact poisons or toxins in it. Though, anyone with open sores might want to refrain from going in there... and also a shower might be recommended afterward for anyone who does go in there...

Sam wades in the murky water which is about knee-deep. She try to peer in the dark waters as best she can, but fails to find anything of interest...

With this, we'll conclude session 2, so Sam gets 4 DP, Mesex gets 4 DP, Sorrack gets 3 DP.

@ Sam: Have you found a 2nd descriptor for your character? I've noticed you had left one open as a placeholder. It's been a while now...
Feb 4, 2022 1:49 pm
Finding nothing of interest in the murky water room, you're all ready to head up. Are you taking the stairs again or the lift?
Feb 5, 2022 4:09 am
OOC:
Will work on another descriptor.
Shaking the nasty water off herself she says, Guess it it time to go up. The lift sound nice but if something goes wrong we are stuck. I recommend the stairs though I am not looking forward to the climb.
