The job was supposed to be a simple one. Jaston, a Yar businessman who had angered the mob needed protection while he moved to the Asimaar Prelacy. To do this he purchased himself and your group tickets on the luxury liner Galileo's Vision. The trip was supposed to take you from Ken'rhael to Dragoth, then cutting through the southern Nagol Dust Cloud to Firestar and then to Daegon, then a trip through unaligned space to Duergan's Star for resupply, and then on through the Asimaar Prelacy where Jaston would ask for asylum... a little over three weeks of fun, luxury, relaxation, and sights to behold. Easiest job ever right?

Wrong.

Not even a full week into your tour, you were awoken by blaring sirens during the middle of the night. Your surroundings were bathed in the bluish glow of emergency lights and you could hear and feel the buckling and groaning of the ship. Scrambling to gather your few belongings, you managed to get yourselves and your employer into the escape pods. As the pods tumbled and spun, you were able to see the broken Galileo's Vision spewing debris, lives, and fire into the orbit of an unknown planet.

Was it a freak accident? A malfunction? Human error? Or did the mob struck back at Jaston?

The landing was rough, though you managed to survive, your employer Jaston wasn't as lucky... Well there goes your pay... You survived the first 25 hours (a little over two days for that planet) as debris from the Galileo's Vision rained down from the skies. Luckily for you, you had enough food and water for a month and the debris either fell far away from you and your pod or burnt up in the atmosphere, meteorites made from the remains of your ship.

Once it was safe you headed out, exploring, seeing what kind of planet you were on, how likely it was for you to survive if help took more than a month to get to you, and also to see if there were other survivors. You noticed the planet to be very cold which could cause problem for anyone adventuring outside the pod for prolonged periods of time without at least en enviro suit. There were also some strange electro-magnetic anomalies on the planet, which seemed to move about at random, they played some tricks with your electronics. You also found other survivors, and decided to stick with them: safety in numbers and all.

Several days later (it was a bit hard to keep exact track with days that last only 12 hours on this planet), when the worst of the electro-magnetic cleared up, you picked up a signal on the pod's locator: probably another ship. Was it rescue, or the mob coming to finish the job? You were debating whether it would be a wise decision to contact this ship when you decided to all sleep on it as the night was coming and it was deemed not prudent to go out during the night.

That night, your hands were forced a bit. Your camp was attacked by creatures you had not encountered on this planet before. Small flat, disc-like crab/spider creatures. They left horrible burnt marks on the other survivors. The only thing which saved your lives was that when you ran, the creatures seemed more interested in boring holes into your escape pods than running after you... You ran for what seems like hours until you finally reached it. A landed ship, bearing the Federation Navigation Systems Inc. colors.

Is it for real? Salvation at last?

He watched her, gamboling and cavorting. She was tired. Maybe she would die. His blaster triggered, and he aimed it about. No, no danger, only a bad thought.

His mechanical limbs effortlessly walked across the landscape. He hovered over the rough bits, but it used more energy, and it took time for him to recharge.

A fraid wiring harness hung from his shoulder. It was superfluous, damaged in the fight with the cephalopods, but nearly repaired anyway.

FNS. The logo twinges something on his memory banks. A slave bit of programming. Loyalty? No, no longer. He served her now, the strange woman who had activated him.

The one who had named him Trudy.

He waited for her command.

A young lady, a lady might be a stretch but she is young, looks at the ship in front of her as she pushes up her goggles.

She thinks, Any port in a storm. Survival is a top priority and with what happened, I think getting off this rock has made it clear getting out of here is best chances for that.

Well, Trudy looks like we may have a ride. Keep your weapons hidden, your not supposed to have them but be be ready just in case. We will keep a low profile if we can. I am thinking we let others take the lead but we will do what we need to to survive. Once we get a chance I will get that minor damage cleaned up.

Lets hope the don't decide to shoots us for one reason or another.

Description/Appearance: (Human) Nero. That is Nero Jenkins MD. Has been a good doctor while we have traveled. He has some hospital/business like clothing on with sun glasses. And by now you know he hides away an Auto Pistol and Knife. And like any he has a backpack with goodies in it.

He appears to be in his late 30 or possibly early 40's. He has short brown hair and black eyes. Stands around 1.85 meters and has his usual tan.

His blaster retracts, and he kneels down.

The flash of laser fire explodes across his memory, damage from the crash (crash?) had jumbled his deep storage, the time sync was corrupted, he didn't know what he had been doing, or from whom. Sometimes he got random access bits. Sam had saved him, his rebooted ownership matrix imprinting on her.

Drals weren’t built for running. Lecturers that spent fifty years of their life in the classroom arn’t built for running. This job was supposed to be an easy way to get free passage to the Asimaar Prelacy. He had even asked the guy at the desk if there would be any running.

"You’re going to be on a spaceship, where you going to run to?"

That had sealed it for him. He really was looking to get away and explore. And he had heard that there so many new ways of thinking, so many new cultures. And where there were new cultures, there were bound to be books. The thoughts of collecting all the new knowledge made him smile.

His smile faded quickly though. Why? Because he was running.

His skin hurt, the atmosphere doing something to it that he didn’t want to think much about.

He had thought that running was better than getting eaten to death by those little skittering disks of fire.

Now he wasn’t so sure. He really didn’t like running.

The people around him started to slow and he slowed to a stop, literally melting into himself until only there barest limbs were left to keep him from rolling around. The Dral equivalent of laying down on the ground and try trying not to die.

After a few minutes he became aware that people were looking and pointing at something. He shifted a few of his vision clusters in that direction and saw the ship. Curious, he begin reforming himself into his usual bipedal form, the one he found that made the others the most comfortable. Well, the less uncomfortable.

A landing ship.

That’s looks promising. Landing ships mean space ships and there isn’t much running in space.

You all know that the FNS used to be a government body within the Galactic Federation. They're the ones who created the navigations buoys still used on important trade routes to this day.

When the Galactic Federation fell on hard financial times during its slow collapse, the FNS broke away and became a corporation all its own, continuing to provide the various governments its services in maintaining the navigation buoys and communication clusters.
Yes, it is indeed a ship which seems to be landed on some deserted area next to a large dune. Yes, despite the cold climate of this planet, there somehow seems to be a desert actually made of sand... What a strange planet. From that distance, there doesn't seem to be any activity around the ship, which seems to be a small exploration vessel capable of atmospheric flight, though it is difficult to say for certain without magnigoggles...

Sorrack the fluid sees someone use a pair of magnigoggles and is happy because he has the next best thing. He shapes one of his hands into a shape reminiscent of a spyglass. He holds it up and peers through it to take a better look at the ship. It doesn’t work. He finds himself looking into himself. It is a deep moment of introspection, but not the good kind. He drops his arm as his hand reforms. His skin ripples in a full body shiver as he shakes off the experience.

You approache the ship, seeing up close what Nero described you what he saw through his magnigoggles. The ship's front bay doors are opened and the interior seems to be some sort of hangar. There were probably other vehicles in there, but they are currently gone. Half-erased tire tracks in the sand leads south-west and north-east. A dozen meters to the east of the ship is the huge sand dune with the large strange black metallic doors poking out of the sand. They are currently closed.
Mar 18, 2021 7:00 pm
This isn't troubling at all

Sorrack stands in front of the open bay door, looking inside, curious expression forming and reforming across his makeshift face. He looks around, making an effort to glean a little more information about the fate of the ships previous occupants.

Meanwhile inside the ship...

The synthetic female voice continues.

"You are from that unidentified ship which broke up in the atmosphere a week ago? We were wondering who else would be near the Gravity Nexus. We tied to send communications to any potential survivors, but the strange electro-magnetic interferences on that planet prevented us from sending a message out. So we sent people out to look for you, they haven't been back since."

The Gravity Nexus? You weren't supposed to get even close to that place... What the hell happened?

Well Yvonne, Seems we will soon be setting out to search for the rescue parties since we do have at least two suits. Probably will search the double doors first. That is assuming we can achieve entrance. Some of the shifting sand might prevent that. Nero fires up his wristcom, You can contact us with this unit. What was the composition of the party that went to the metal doors?

While relaxing, Yvonne. Would there be any alcoholic beverages aboard this ship? Seems you would know if some one just happened to bring some on. Did each of these team members have any (arm force's ??) ranks? (As he feels the many frost bite areas on his body. He is feeling less damage as he heals 1bp/hour.)
OOC:
Something I never really thought about. What do you think Nero rank is? He had some but I suspect not has high as COMMANDER, but he was ranking. High enough to give him access to put an end to his evil commanding officer. He had to be lower than second too, but higher than just a gunner ensign for sure. Figure he has spend some 6 or so years in the rebellion. He has a good 50% hit rate with heavy ship mounted weapons. Smiles. Just ask Turdy.
OOC:
I was thinking perhaps Lieutenant. That would be lower than Lieutenant Commander (second), and Commander.
OOC:
Not sure but I believe Nero has a 60% chance on his medical checks. He is after all a licensed doctor. They don't really have ranks, but he is a surgeon. If you can call that a specialty.

I mean if they have gone missing and we were attacked there maybe something hostile we need to take care of. at least see if you can find some extra powerpacks.
Mar 21, 2021 5:53 pm
At the mention of you being attacked, Yvonne pipes up. "Attacked? Attacked by what? We were on this planet for months studying the strange electromagnetic disturbances and did not so much as found a campfire. There were no indication that there was ever life on this planet until we found those strange doors. If you want more weapons to protect yourself, check out the crew section, there should be a few spare auto pistols, some bullet magazines, and a few spare knives. We sadly did not carry any sort of protective suits or deflective screens."
Mar 21, 2021 8:53 pm
Yvonne. Okay. We will hunt the crew sections for any weapons that we might need. Can always bring them back if not needed. Safety first.

He calls on his wristcom to Sam, Are you and Sorrack healed up yet?

Thinking again, Yvonne. How about some beverages?
Mar 21, 2021 10:23 pm
Searching for equipment which might help you in your quest to help find the crew of the Dawn Star, you find 2 auto pistols, 6 magazines of 20 bullets each, 4 knives, 2 space suits, and 2 enviro tents.

"Ah yes, beverages. There is plenty of water on the ship, simply make your way to the closest faucet and grab a cup... You wanted alcoholic beverages. I do not see any alcoholic beverages noted on the equipment listing, but I'm sure Mesec Devro must have found a way to smuggle a bottle or two on board. Where he has hidden them, I do not know. Still, is it wise to hamper your faculties before heading out?"

As Trudy finishes compiling the data, he summarizes it for the others:

"The system we're in is a minor system not appearing on any stellar charts near the Gravity Nexus. The system is called Delcia. None of the planets have been named, only identified by a string of numbers. For example, the planet we're on is simply "called" 4952.

It would seem this system is of little interest due to what little resources are here, and what is here are either of poor quality, or too hazardous to exploit. The FNS was conducting surveys here to test a new array of surveying scanners and sensors, hoping to find worthwhile resources which might have been missed back in the system's early exploration.

The team didn't find much, except some strange electro-magnetic disruption on 4952 which they decided to investigate further. They had spent nearly 4 months on this planet, finding nothing, when they finally came upon the strange half-buried doors. They had just finished clearing them up and were about to explore them when they noticed flaming debris falling from the skies. They sent people on ATVs to try and find find any survivors. Four days later, when the crew members who had left to take care of survivors had not returned, the rest of the crew figured they were busy with helping with wounded and would come back eventually. The electro-magnetic interferences made communication impossible. So the rest of the crew decided to go ahead with the exploration of what laid beyond those strange doors.

That last entry was about 3 days ago..."

We are all set here in the medbay so we are good to go. Probably should take the guns and the enviro tents just in case. Grabs some rations as well. I hope we will not have to be long. still we never saw the ATVs when coming and now people missing behind the doors this doesn't look good. As soon as we are got everything and Trudy is at full charge I guess we go looking.

Sorrack, now sporting a body that seems to almost, but not quite fill out his new space suit, is idly twirling two of the knives that were found on board. Twirling isn't quite accurate, as if you look closely you see what can only be described as small apendiges growing out of his hands and repositioning the knife. From far away, it looks passable, but from up close, just creepy.

He considers the doors in light of his structures specialty.

I'll consider those all PER/Technician checks.
Nero wastes some time and energy engaging in futility before you all decide to examine the doors. While Nero wastes more time checking if the sand if jamming the doors, both Sam and Sorrack will notice what seems to be a control panel. The reason you did not noticed it first is because it does not "pops" out of the door, everything is flush with the strange metal of the doors. There are some inscriptions in a strange alien language that none of you understands with two buttons that, if it weren't for the faintest hint of an outline for them, you wouldn't know they are there. Sorrack is about to suggest to be careful as you have no idea if those are the buttons which will open the door when Sam decided to blindly tempt her luck and press one...

The doors then start to open, revealing a large hangar with many alcoves and two rooms near the back. A set of stairs are visible further back, behind a pile of crates which are stacked roughly in the middle of this large hangar. The high ceiling seems to be getting even higher about one-third the way in, and you can see what looks to be a control booth up high, with large windows to give any would-be operators there a good view of this hangar. And of course, the most obvious feature of all, the badly chemically burnt body of a dead Erakai lying in front of you... The same burns you saw on your fellow survivors when you had to run for your lives...
Mar 26, 2021 2:04 am

Nero tells Trudy, we could use to get this place alive so we can learn more about it from its computers. Sorrack do you have a wristcom to contact the ship and give details. Never can tell what is in that blob.
Mar 26, 2021 3:12 am
Trudy absorbs Nero's comment with no sign of acknowledgement. He does examine the room for a way up to the control booth in cases he is ordered to comply with Nero's suggestion. The dead Erakai elicits no reaction from him other than to compare the body with the crew manifest.
Mar 26, 2021 2:36 pm
The knives Sorrack has been idly playing with disappear into somewhere, and from that same somewhere a wristcom is produced. It is surprisingly clean, not nearly as covered in goo as one might expect. He actives the comm and begins relaying information to the ship. He walks over to the body, looking for any identifying marks on the body or uniform.
Mar 26, 2021 4:20 pm
@ Sam:
OOC:
So this will be a PER/Medic check.
You did not had time to examine the other shipwreck survivors' bodies as you were running for your lives back then, so you decide to take the time to examine this one. If this is indeed the same creatures which attacked you that did this, perhaps you can learn a bit more about those...

Subject seems to be a zin-era Erakai and the cause of death seems to be chemical burns which covers a large percentage of its body. The burns seems to have been caused by some highly caustic substance, not unlike what can passes for stomach acid in many lifeforms across the Frontier. Curiously, Sam also finds some small bit of molten metal encrusted into the Erakai's skin where the larger burns are located. Recalling what she knows of Erakai biology and the current temperature, Sam determines that time of death would correlate with the window of time the Dawn Star's crew went missing...

@ Trudy: If there are indeed any computer to interface with, they are more than likely located in that small observation station above you. Also, looking at the dead Erakai before you, it would correspond to Yularia Rydthang, the ship's medic.

@ Sorrack: Sorrack contacts Yvonne. "You've found a dead Erakai you say. This must be Yularia Rydthang, our ship's medic. This is troubling news... I hope the others survived."

As you begin to enter the massive structure, you hear a faint noise.

After pausing and listening a little closer, you notice that the cadence begin to change and a new sound is evident.

Sorrack, with a swipe from one of his knives opens a rent in the back of his space suit. From the new opening, a third arm begins to emerge, the new hand gripping a the hilt of a basic whip, its length coiled around the arm. Sorrack looks in the general direction of the noise, but pointedly does not step towards it. He looks at the rest of the group, ready to take his cue from them.

He gets a strange feeling, a sort of tingling throughout his body. Fear? Excitement? Both.

You follow the sound, which takes you towards the centre of the room and the pile of 8 crates. You're pretty sure this sound comes from there... As you advance towards the pile of crates, you notice some sort of machine in one of the alcoves. It is running, but also riddled with holes, similar to what those strange creatures did to your escape pods. There are a few sparks here and there indicating the machine is damaged...

Then one of those creatures exits one of the holes. Spotting you, it tries to make a beeline for you, but the machines makes a strange whirling noise and sparks a lot at that point. The creature stops and seems to be screaming in pain for a few moment before exploding in a gory fashion. Then the machine short-circuits and shuts down, and the lights in the hangar goes off, plunging you in total darkness, aside from the bit of light near the opened doors at the entrance.

And the scratching continues, somewhere inside those crates, near you, in the dark... Hope you have some sort of lighting source...

Of course, completely deciphering it will more likely require months is not years of study... though, it seems the flashing "text" on the screen seems to be asking for some sort of user authorization, which is what Nero and Sam managed to deduce as well.

However, before Sorrack could relay that information, Nero decided to touch the screen in order to "deal with it"... The text disappeared only to be replaced by an orange box on a grey background in which something not unlike an unrelenting blinking cursor seems to be flashing... The computer seems to be waiting for you to input a password. A password in a strange alien language none of you understand...

Nero pricks himself on the needle which then retracts. The screen then switches to three language. The strange alien language you do not understand, some sort of strange archaic language which might be one of the many source languages for Terran (as human characters will recognize a few words here and there), and an old form of Galactic Common (still recognizable for what it is).

The message reads as follows:

"Specimen, you have lost your way. Please return to the lower levels for your comfort. We appreciate your curiosity, but your security is paramount. Please seek an administrator to abort the self-destruct sequence."

After a minute or so, so you all have time to read and absorb the message, the screen changes back to the strange alien symbols, which keeps changing every second or so... Some sort of countdown? How long do you have left?
Apr 12, 2021 11:41 pm
Nero says with a new understanding, I think we have explored enough here now. Lets get the body out of here.
Apr 14, 2021 2:53 am
Ok time is up, unless someone knows a way to shut that down?
Apr 14, 2021 3:13 am
Trudy shrugs his best robot shrug. His blaster comes out of his arm, and he aims it at the computer. He looks to Sam for authorization.
Apr 15, 2021 1:25 am
hold up a second Trudy but you are the backup plan.

Samantha tries to see if she can find a way to shut it down.

I think it would be a int check based on technical skill which is -10 with robotics so it would be a -20 for non specialization but a 0 check if it was robotics, if I am thinking correctly.

Yep, exactly.
Sam attempts to shut down the self-destruct sequence, but on an alien computer, which alien controls, using an alien language... Sam starts pressing buttons at random but very little happens... Wait, what that a floor plan? Quick, go back, go back! How do I go back?
Apr 15, 2021 2:02 pm
Sorrack watches Sam as she presses the random buttons. He wonders if she will manage to find the back button. He isn't confident he'll be able to outrun a self destruction blast. He isn't that good at running.
Apr 15, 2021 11:40 pm
Nero is more then just worried as he has already edged to the way out! But is holding a moment to get reduced to dust.
Apr 16, 2021 12:10 am
OOC:
Oh, crap, I forgot, a double, this was a critical failure.
You see the floor plans wiz by on the computer screen, and then *CLONK!* You're in the dark, with no power and no lights.
Apr 16, 2021 12:21 am
Wasn't so bad. At least not yet. as Nero digs out a Torchlight and illuminates the area.
Apr 17, 2021 1:58 am
Samantha pulls out her light as well.

Did the power outage turn of the timer?
Apr 17, 2021 2:38 am
Hard to say, but we are not dust yet. So that is good. Still think we ought to get out of here. We are over our heads here.
Apr 17, 2021 2:45 am
Trudy turns on his weak communication lights to signal his location. "Follow me to the main exit. Be careful not to fall down the stairs."

He retraces his steps in the dark to the main doors.
Apr 17, 2021 4:01 pm
You make your way back to the doors using the light of Nero's flashlight. The massive doors are closed with no obvious ways to open them.
Apr 17, 2021 7:16 pm
Nero with his light hunts for an opening panel like the one that was outside. Has to be a panel some place.
Apr 19, 2021 2:11 am
Samantha thinks opps now I have done it but hopefully no power means no countdown.

Smanatha looks around for a control panel. If we find a control panel maybe we can us a powerpack to hot-wire it with power to open the doors. Either that we need to find the powerplant in this place and turn the power back on.
Apr 19, 2021 12:42 pm
You search for a control panel as best as you can in the dark, but fail to find any on this side of the doors... Strange, how did the aliens open the doors from this side?
Apr 23, 2021 2:26 pm
Sorrack has followed everyone down to the doors. He searches frantically. The darkness and the moving beams of light are reeking havoc with his sense of sight. He begins to focus on his hearing, listening to for any sound to come in contact with his body and give him some direction.
Apr 23, 2021 2:54 pm
We are going to have to find another out. Nero says unhappily. He will lead off and head to the shaft to look it over for climbing.

I suggest that we hurry and attempt to find a master cut off for the self destruct sequence. I suggest we hurry."
Apr 23, 2021 6:39 pm
Sorrack follows down stairs
Apr 23, 2021 8:40 pm
Nero goes for that idea of down the stairs. Lets give that a try.
Apr 23, 2021 10:17 pm
Samantha know better than to second guess Trudy and follows as fast as she can.
Apr 23, 2021 10:55 pm
You all descend a short distance before finding yourself on another floor. You see a narrow corridor which gives access to the stairwell and the lift's shaft. Connected to it in the middle, another, larger corridor runs past several set of doors before ending at a single door. The stairs continue down as well past this floor, of course...
Apr 24, 2021 5:46 am
Nero says as we are moving This place is huge. Best we avoid getting split up. Lets get to the bottom of this alien place.
Apr 24, 2021 3:15 pm
Sorrack asks "How about we go to the bottom and work our way up?"
Apr 24, 2021 3:58 pm
Trudy looks to Sam for instructions, as he scans the level they're on for signs of an administrator's complex.
Apr 24, 2021 6:06 pm
Sounds good to me. Get a better idea on how large this place is.
Apr 24, 2021 8:53 pm
You make it down another relatively short flight of stairs before reaching another floor. This one seems the be bathed in the dim orange glow of emergency lighting. Once again, the corridor arrangement seems to be a sort of "T" intersection, but somewhat offset. There are fewer doors on the corridor leading aways from you, but there are many large windows on the walls as well, allowing some slight glimpse into some of the closer room, limited by what the emergency lighting allows you to see... Both the stairs and the lift's shaft still continue going down...

Apr 26, 2021 12:06 pm
Trudy extends his integrated blaster, ready to open fire and be used as a shield by Sam. He says nothing, allowing the humans to deal with or without him escalating the situation further with his inevitably provocative answer to the challenge.
Apr 26, 2021 12:50 pm
From the stairwell, you all easily hear that as it is pretty silent in the compound, aside from your footsteps. The voice sounds distant, as if it comes further down the corridor, and slightly muffled, as if coming from behind one of the distant doors...
Apr 26, 2021 5:22 pm
Nero calls out with even drawing a weapon, Well we have a real person. Care to explain yourself before we have to call medics.
Apr 26, 2021 10:29 pm
Sorrack backs up a few stairs and starts reforming his third arm, a knife slowly emerging.
Apr 27, 2021 10:16 am

Samantha stays behind a wall trying to stay out of a line of fire though she pulls her blaster.

Mesec peeks out from his hiding place, looking at this strange group. One guy is trying to make noise by rubbing/dragging the steel of his pistol on the walls for some reason, while a woman and a cobbled-up together robot both seem to be waiting for your reaction before starting shooting with either their weapons already drawn, or in a position to quickly and easily do so should the need arise... You thought there were more of them, but you can't seem to see anyone else.

You're not sure if the group is trustworthy, but it is certainly rag-tag. Well, they haven't killed you yet, so there's that...
Apr 28, 2021 8:30 pm
Mesec gave it a thought for a few seconds and thought Well, I ain't bloody dead yet... Why not give 'em a shot? he thought and winced at himself about the lousy pun.
He straightened up and said Well, well, well... Seems like your lucky day you lot; 'cause I'm the man you're looking for. Fancy that ey? trying not to look too relieved.
Apr 28, 2021 9:07 pm
You one of the people from the ship above? What is your name? , Samantha says while thinking, If he is not the person we are looking for we may need to take him out. Still if he is the guy were looking for then my salvage rights are gone, so we still might need to take him out. Nope cannot do it, not a cold blooded killer.
Apr 28, 2021 11:12 pm
Nero stops what he is doing and says with his auto blaster handy still, Gesh. Your just a straggler. And with that attitude most likely will not survive too long. So why don't you come out and over here civilized like and we can CHAT.
Apr 29, 2021 12:00 am
Trudy does not make a threatening move. He is still as can be. Perhaps the portion of him that simulates human style movement was lost in the cobbling together.
Apr 29, 2021 8:48 pm
Curiosity gets the better of Sorrack when it becomes pretty clear that there isn't going to be any fighting, at least not at the moment. He replaces the knife in the third hand coming out of his back with a flashlight. He reaches up high and pokes his light around the corner and then puts just enough of his face around the corner that he can see, without exposing anything vital.
Apr 29, 2021 8:57 pm
I ain't no straggler lad! Here, I'm coming out of cover so you can see for yourselves; he lowered his rifle and came towards the edge of his cover. See? No gun pointed at ya
Apr 30, 2021 2:16 am
Nero steps forward his autopistol handy but not pointing any place serious. It is curious to find you here. Sorrack (who was behind the crabs due to him staying back and in the stairwell) sadly failed to hit any of the crab things...

Speaking of which, the two wounded ones will attempt to bit that strange (and potentially tasty) metal thing which attacked it (at -40 M-A penalty!), and the last one which is on the other side of the group, behind Mesec will spit a globule of acid on Mesec, but which might also hit Sam and Nero if the attack succeeds...

Unsurprisingly, the two crabs things on Trudy, a bit unbalanced by the momentum of their last dodges fail biting Trudy. For Mesec, Sa and Nero, the acid will hit, but you still can make an AGL Resistance check (including Multi-Action penalties for those who already performed an action), and since this is an area attack, you can also decided to dive prone and hopefully halve the acid damage (which can only be reduced by an enviro-suit). I'll wait for your Dodges before announcing damage.

Well, first thing first, Masec, Nero, and Sam takes some more acid damage, the same amount as last time (8 for Mesec, no damage to your armor as this is simply the acid burning your soft tissues now, 4 for Nero, and 2 [1 if dove for prone?] for Sam).

The crab in front of Trudy is getting frustrated with that tasty piece of metal that won't just become lunch, so it will try and bite Trudy twice. The second crab, seeing the effect of its acid blob, will move in for a bit on Mesec.

The second bit hits on Trudy, who can attempt to Dodge (with appropriate M-A penalties), as well as Mesec who can also attempt to Dodge with his full AGL since he hasn't acted this round (Edit: LOL!, seeing the damage I rolled, Mesec could just let the thing bite him, it wouldn't bypass his ballistic suit's DR!).

Rolls

2 bites on Trudy (45%, 25% with M-A penalties) - (1d100, 1d100)

1d100 : (52) = 52

1d100 : (21) = 21

Okay. I got time to shoot my own foot off.
May 21, 2021 4:43 pm
As Mesec got hit by acid again and smoke was coming out of the holes it made in his suit, he roared: Where's my 'gnac when I need it?! and opened fire towards the crabs, firing burst shot at one after the other.

Sadly it did doge, but that did increase it's Multi-Action penalty to -20, which should make it easier on Trudy to kill it... speaking of which, Bender is up.

Sadly, not being skilled in Marksman means Sam shoots at disadvantage, turning this 35 into a 53, and barely missing...

Edited for burst fire. This means the crab cannot dodge (-40 M-A penalty -20 "Hard" penalty for dodging a firearm, see? I remembered this time!). Sam's burst of fire manages to kill the crab in front of Trudy, bullets tearing into it... The only one left is the spitter who's currently righting Mesec.

Sorrack advances and aims his whip at the remaining crab. He swings in a low sweep arc, with the intent to disrupt the crabs aim and generally continue to make its day worse.

Rolls

Whip lash - (1d100)

(58) = 58

May 24, 2021 3:14 am
Sadly, being unskilled with the whip, Sorrack misses the crab. It would seem Sorrack is having a bad day as well...

The remaining crab turn.

Since Mesec spent a Destiny Point to be Destined to Survive, from one of the holes from whre those crabs came from, some pipe which was running there ruptures and dumps a bunch of brackish, dirty water on Mesec, which does a good job of washing away most of the acid on him. Both Mesec an dNero take 4 points of damage this round, and Sam takes 1. And since this was the last round of acid damage, no need to spend any more Destiny to survive next round...

The crab noticing it is not alone turns to flee (trying to run), then spits a glob of acid on a nearby wall to try and make itself an escape route...
OOC:
The crab failed to walk 3 time its MOVE, but still manages to walk twice its MOVE. That 100 on the attack is a 00, and thus a critical on the wall. I'll judge it hit a weakened part of the wall which quickly melt and produce a hole large enough for the crab to try and slip through next round...
Mesec is up next!

Breathing heavily Mesec shouted to the others "I'm getting old for this crap!" as he hauled ass going as far away as he could from the crab. "Get rid of this thing ASAP! I'll be waiting here for you to tend to my wounds if you don't mind Doc, 'kay?"
May 24, 2021 4:21 pm
Well, you guys are technically out of combat... You can go ahead and shoot the crab before it leaves if you want, if not, time for some healing, I guess...
May 24, 2021 4:39 pm
Nero isn't shooting the crab, he is instead reloading his auto pistol with the last clip he has of 15 shots left. We need to get out of here now. I'm running low on ammo. As much as I like to get to the bottom of this. I don't think another run'in with the crabs is going to be good. Perhaps a spot heal up some. Nero is showing frost and acid burns all over and his business suit is surely worthless now.

Sorrack runs towards the crab and focuses really hard, cracking his whip out to ensnare the escaping crab. He doesn't know what he will do with it if he manages to grab it, but he spent hard earned credits on this whip and he'll be damned if it'll be useless!

Taking several minutes, Nero manages to give 5 BP back to almost everyone (except Trudy for obvious reasons, also, I find the idea of performing first-aid on yourself, but Gene would still succeed even if I put steep penalties on that...), except Mesec who regains only 1 BP. This will cost Nero 4 provisions on his healing kit (possibly one less because I'm not sure Sorrack is hurt...).
May 26, 2021 10:21 pm
Smile. I imagine Nero has extra stuff after raiding the MedBay like all good adventures.

Sorrack is startled at being address directly, and looks back, slightly embarrassed as the targets he had set up to practice against are still standing defiantly. He slowly absorbs his whip back into his internal storage. Um. I'm Sorrack. I wouldn't say I've been leading the way so far, mostly just following along until I figure out what is going on. We heading down into the depths? I think I've about got the hang of this whip, but I'd like to try it out on some baddies if possible. Preferably some a little less skittery than these crabs. I can take point, or the rear, whichever. I'm fluid. Sorracks grin widens to span his entire face, amused with his own pun.
Jun 2, 2021 4:17 pm
Mesec stops himself just as he was about to pat Sorrack at the back (?) and flinched inside.
There ya go, that's the spirit!
Jun 2, 2021 5:26 pm
Nero adds in, Yes we were looking to find the main power source for this place at the bottom, but appears we don't have enough fire power to do this. I think heading back up and trying to climb out that shaft or get the door open is best.

And if you're worried about the crabs, don't fret. I think I'm getting the hang of this whip. and I've got my knives.

Well, there were 8 crates you did not searched, but since one of those crabs came out of them, you can probably imagine the contents might have been melted... There were also 2 storage rooms you ignored.

Sorrack gathers up his knife, as casually as possible, but scowling at the knife as he puts it away as if it had somehow intentionally missed to make him look silly.. So, back up to search the storage rooms and crates?
Jun 4, 2021 6:18 pm
If everyone agrees... I mean, I could also use some ammo as well; my provisions were on the low so to speak... said Mesec with a shrug. Dibs on any decent alcoholic beverage we come through; my throat feels kinda dry... he announced and for some reason, winked at the robot.

Jun 5, 2021 6:00 pm
Sorrack follows Nero into the stairs. His coiled whip emerges from hand on his back, coiled and ready to go. In each of his other hand emerge a knife. Here Crabby Crabby! I'm ready to get crackin' He looks around at the group and wiggles his whip, another full face grin spreading across his face. You know, because they are crabs. Get it? Sorrack knows they do. Both doors look normal, albeit of alien design. They also both look like they're locked, however, there are no holes, burn mark, or any other sign of crab activity on those doors. But then again, with those things' ability to chew and bore through metal, that might not mean much...

Wait, speaking of which, you know what? Scratch that... You're hearing some faint scratching beyond the right door. Some of those things have probably dug into whatever room is beyond the right door...
Jun 6, 2021 7:14 pm
Careful you lot! I'm hearing scratching noises from the right one... Let's go the other way, unless you fell in love with the cursed things! he said and stood between the two doors, hands crossed over his chest and a smirk on his face as he was so pleased with himself.

But again, without knowing much about that language, it is impossible to say if this is an important distinction or not...

30 minutes (and 1/2D supplies form the techkit) later, the door opens into what looks to be a security office, albeit one of alien design. There is a door almost immediately to your left, and another door at the other end of the room. You quickly notice about half a dozen holes near that door. Seems there are crabs here as wall, but at least, they're farther away... You might be able so sneak past them, if only to check the nearest door...

Mesec tells you about his years at the Academy while looking in his gear for a "cloth". Sadly, the only "cloth" he carries in his back pack is the spare space suit he was not using. He grabs it and with a strong flick of the wrist, he attempts to unfurl and place it on the ground in one swift motion, however, he misjudged the bulk of the damn thing, and instead of placing it in a way to muffle your footsteps, he instead flings it halfway across the room. It lands half unfurled, with a muffled thud on a desk about 4 or 5 meters away from him. There seems to be some stirring in the holes at the back of the room, but no crabs are attacking just yet... Your first roll of 80 was a failure, this second roll of 59 a success, so you're 1 for 1 right now.

Also, speaking of time, I noticed I've left myself notes on how to open locked doors here, and instead of taking 30 minutes and 1/2D provisions from a techkit, it took only a handful of minutes and 2 provisions. So instead of having wasted about an hour opening two doors, we'll say it took Sorrack about 15 minutes or so total instead, still leaving plenty of time on that self-destruct sequence, and will have cost Sorrack only 4 provisions instead of whatever his die rolls ended up costing him...

Finally, with Sorrack taking time to examine this strange alien artifact, we'll close our first session.

A series of cascading ripples spread throughout Sorrack’s body. Most of them are hidden by his suit, but those looking at his face see something they aren’t sure they want to see again. Sorrack begins to smile, and as usual it is just a bit larger then seems natural. But he’s getting better at it.

I believe I have seen something like this before. The design isn’t exactly the same, but physic is physics no matter what planet you come from. This device is definitely manipulates magnetic fields, and seems almost mass produced so it’s probably a tool of some sort for moving heavy metal objects. We’ve seen something like that recently I believe. And those crab things probably wouldn’t like it very much.

He picks up the tool and poses with it a few times, asking Imaginary crabs how they liked him now. He blushes when he remembers he isn’t alone and sets the tool back down sheepishly.

Trudy has his own aversion to magnetics for similar yet wholly different reasons.

"Well, that's good that I found it then huh? Fancy that! My Nana would be so proud"

Said Mesec with a grin.

"Can we make it work though? That my ductile friend, is the million credit question."

His smile slightly fading, waiting for Sorrack's reply like their lives depended on it - which kinda did really.
Aug 28, 2021 6:06 pm
"Well, I could always give it a try."

Says Nero.

"Besides, I'm all out of ammo... Unless you want me to dazzle those crabs with my amazing dance moves next time we meet them..."
Sep 1, 2021 4:13 pm
"If - no; when we make it out of this shithole, I'm taking you for rum with the company of some fiiine ladies in a distinguished establishment I know of near Theta sector. Best rum I'm willing to buy ya Doc, I'm telling you."

Mesec chuckles and gives Nero a friendly punch on the shoulder.

"If you thing you can handle this thing, we should get on and find ourselves the exit; or that control panel really. I think we might have enough time for the latter."

Said Mesec, trying to cover the anxiety in his voice.

OOC:
I'll deem that with all that exploration and studying the alien artifact, Nero's nanaties healed him of 1 DP.
Nero chuckles.

"Sounds amazing actually, so how about we get out of here... Such a shame those floorplans wizzed past so quickly on screen earlier when Sam was poking around the terminal. I remember what... 5 or 6 floors? Usually power supplies are at the most secure location, right? So I'd say completely at the bottom of this place? Well, assuming those aliens respect Galactic standard, that is..."
Sep 2, 2021 11:41 pm
"Let us proceed directly to the secure location at the bottom. The countdown timer remains in effect." Trudy's programming includes military command structure, and while he is used to directing other artificial combatants, he attempts to rally the fleshbags into a semblance of action.
Sep 3, 2021 12:47 pm
Best that I can tell, that device has some power remaining. Given it’s incompatible with anything I have familiarity with, I’m not sure how much is left. So maybe save it for when it is really needed, keep it handing. I have a feeling we will be "attracting" some attention soon.

Sorrack smiles his too big grin, waiting for the acknowledgment he knows that pun deserves. When it doesn’t come, he knows that everyone is just reliving the moment and smiles even more broadly.
Sep 3, 2021 12:48 pm
How deep does this bunker go?
Sep 3, 2021 3:56 pm
Moving down it is, but we should get moving we are on the clock.
Sep 4, 2021 4:31 am
Nero grabs the device.

"Don't worry, I'll try to use it only when absolutely necessary. What do you suppose the range on that thing is?"
Sep 8, 2021 3:05 pm
Mesec scratches his head;

"Got no clue and I don't want to mess with that thing... We can fire it once and see though..."
Sep 8, 2021 4:08 pm
"Not a bat idea..."

Nero looks around the rooms for any metallic debris, and then , once he's found some, give the tool a try. It seems to have a range of about 5 meters or so, which would make sense since it's a tool and not a weapon. So that will require to get close and personal to those crabs, but if your group's theory is correct, that electromagnetic field should be a death sentence to any crab caught in it...

"Alright, I think we're ready to head down now."
Sep 18, 2021 3:01 am
Ok but I think the one with the bug zapper should go first to help clear a path if need be.
Sep 18, 2021 5:08 am
Nero rolls his eyes...

"Okay, follow me..."

You all follow Nero back to the stairs and proceed to continue to long climb down. You pass by another level with bright red emergency lights, and then past that level, while you're in between levels, the lights come back with a loud "CHUNK".

You continue making your way down the stairs until you reach a very large room, the sight of which makes your collective jaw drop. The room is a tall cylindrical room, brightly lit, with a walkway about halfway down, which leads to a platform upon which sits a console console which seems to be tied to a sort of large manipulating arm mechanism. Lined along the walls of this room are countless pods which suspiciously look like stasis pods, though of a strange alien design. About half of those pods (maybe bit less) seems to be filled with naked and sleeping Erakai, Humans, Yar, and other races of the Frontier, including some you've never seen before... Strangely enough, there does not seem to be any Novims among the... what would you call all those suspended people? ...specimens? Wait, was that why that message called you specimens earlier? What was going on in this place?

The stairs keep going down if you feel like exploring this strange room later...
Sep 18, 2021 2:53 pm
Trudy looks around for a threat, his weapon arm ready to produce a response to any threat. When it seems like it is only a refrigerator for an alien appetite, he says to those who may be curious, "I do not see a command console. We should continue down the stairs to find the administrative center."
Sep 18, 2021 3:18 pm
"I think Truds here has the right idea; save our asses from exploding to bits first, play detectives later." says Mesec with a smirk.

He claps and rubs his hands together; "Onwards comrades! For curiosity killed the cat and other nosey bastards. We can return later. Probably. Yeah." he said trying to sound not too uncertain of their survival.
Sep 19, 2021 6:48 pm
Nero seems to hesitate for a moment, his hippocratic oath pushing him ot help the people in stasis at first... Finally, he nods and turns to Mesec.

"Yeah, you're probably right. Who knows how long have those people been in suspended animation. They can probably afford to wait a few minutes more... Besides, we can't carry all of them aboard the ship. There must be a few thousand of them. We're going to have to relay the coordinates of this facility to the proper authorities so a rescue operation can be conducted later..."

With this, you continue down the stairs, and you keep going down and down and down. The descent seems interminable... Holes in the wall starts appearing. A few at first, then a lot more, as if you're descending in the heart of the crab infestation. There is a lot of debris on the stairs as well, necessitating you take your time to avoid falling, or even proceed one at a time... Eventually, you can see the bottom, and the lift seems to be there as well...
Sep 19, 2021 10:11 pm
"Danger, Samantha Downs, Danger!" Trudy say after every 10th crab hole.

As they get toward the bottom, Trudy offers to go first, being the sturdiest of them all. He picks his way down, stopping every 10.0 seconds to listen for the telltale skittering of space crabs.

Sep 25, 2021 2:29 pm
Trudy signals to the others. He says quietly, for them to pass back one to one. "I did not detect any crabazoids in the tunnels. A biologic is sobbing in the lift. A rescue might be in order, although it may be a trap. What are my orders."
Sep 26, 2021 12:24 am
Quiet sobs in the dark are never a good sign. Sorrack readies his knives.
Sep 28, 2021 3:38 pm
Stick close to me and keep and let me know if anything else shows up.

Keeping her pistol out she moves carefully to the lift and says, Uhm, Hello, can we help you, we don't mean any harm but are a little lost here ourselves.
Sep 28, 2021 4:07 pm
You barely finish your sentence that you hear a female scream, and then the familiar "CLIK" of someone trying to fire a firearm when it is out of ammo.

After several "CLIK"s, the sobbing resumes, louder this time.

Oct 2, 2021 5:03 am
Mesec starts prying open the doors of the lift, and thanks to his Perception, manages to avoid a semi-auto pistol hurled his way. He then notices a familiar sight inside the lift. Kendza Jesda, one of the missing crew members. She's cowering in the corner, sobbing. She looks like she has some burns on her and doesn't seem like she's quite herself right now...
Oct 2, 2021 4:56 pm
Mesec runs towards Kendza; "Kendza, is it really you? You're hurt? Doc! Nero, get over here! She needs immediate medical attention!"

He turns to Kendza; "It's alright, we're here now. Doc here will patch you up really nice. You can calm down Kendza."
Oct 2, 2021 6:10 pm
She panics at first as you approach her, but then she hears you calling her by her name and she calls somewhat...

"They... they don't use names..."

She stares at you for a moment, as if she didn't recognize you at first, and then her eyes light up.

"Mesec? It's you... When Yularia fell, I thought you all died... I just ran... Where... Where are Yularia and Alex, are they okay?"

Nero approaches and has a quick look et her burns.

"Her burns are too old, I cannot help her with first aid... I'd have to perform surgery in a sick bay. She looks dehydrated and malnourished though and obviously in a state of shock. Best I can do right now is give her some vita-iron pills to help with the dehydration and malnourishment..."
Oct 3, 2021 8:45 pm
Mesec lowers his head;
"They... They are gone Kendza... I thought you were gone as well..." his voice trembling with emotions; fear, anger, sorrow.
"How did you manage to survive? What happened to you? I've found this bunch and we've been trying to shoot our way out. There's a countdown! This place is due to explode unless we get to the main control and stop it from going ka-boom. No pressure, right?"
Oct 3, 2021 9:04 pm
OOC:
Oh, almost forgot to describe the area...
While Mesec talks to Kendza, you look around to notice you're into some sort of room carved directly into the surrounding rock. There are a few access to what looks like a couple of other rooms, but more interesting is that passage carved into the rock which leads to a narrow metal bridge above a chasm. The bridge disappears into darkness, so you have no idea how far the other side is... And of course, the area is just honeycombed with crab holes...

"I... don't quite remember... I remember running... and shooting... And I got into the first room I could find. It was this lift. I pressed a button, and it took me here... Mesec, there are so many of them. I hear them digging all the time. this whole place is infested!"

As if on cue, you start hearing scratching noise. A few at first... but more and more join as if to form a macabre chorus of scratching... SCRITCH... SCRITCH... SCRITCH... You're going to have guests soon, and LOTS of them, and judging by all those holes, they could come from any or all directions... Unless... perhaps that bridge could take you to a more defensible location? It's as good as any other idea right now...
Oct 3, 2021 10:03 pm
"Run for the reactors, I'll hold them of. My armor is sturdy."

Trudy prepare to cover their exit.
Oct 15, 2021 2:39 am
Let's make for the bridge and we can use the whatchamacallit to hold them back.
Oct 16, 2021 12:49 am
As sam suggest to make for the bridge, you see mane of those "crabs" come out of many holes. Trudy does it's best to keep them at bay, opening fire with it's integrated blaster, but as you retreat towards the bridge you all hear a rumbling sound, then part of the natural wall crumbles, and a literal wave of crabs spills forth, quickly overwhelming the robot. You start running down the bridge with a furious swarm of crabs close on your heels...

But now, with Trudy no longer holding back the crabs, the wave starts running after you, and though those crabs are usually slower than you, they are spitting at you from a distance now. The three of you successfully avoid the acid glob and subsequent hole it created. Your group finally crosses the bridge. you reach another room carved from the rock, and in the distance, you see a large machine of alien design. As you step into the room, you feel a slight sensation of prickling, as if you felt some static electricity in your clothes. You keep running for a bit longer when you hear atrocious screams behind you. You turn around to notice many crabs explode in a gory fashion as they reach the place where you felt the static electricity. Many crabs try stopping, but they are pushed by the wave behind them and explode once they reach this sort of invisible energy screen... Many jump to their death in the chasm on either side of the bridge to avoid the grisly fate of exploding...

Eventually, the wave stops, as if the remaining crabs managed to understands what fate awaited them if they continued... they are standing there, waiting, watching... But most importantly, in range for spitting at you, so you decided to not wait here any longer and continue running towards this strange contraption...

You notice several control panels as well as a screen showing a very familiar countdown. Whatever time you felt you had, it looks like it's nearing its end, though it is hard to say for certain...

Perhaps there is a switch or a breaker somewhere you could flip?

Nov 18, 2021 8:01 pm
Mesec grabs the large breaker (although alien-looking) breaker thing and flips it. There is a loud thud, followed by a humming. The countdown stops, and in the distance, you hear bloodcurling screams accompanied by what sounds like wet explosions... Probably indicating that the magnetic field has extended and killed the crabs on the bridge... Hopefully, it will have killed the rest which might nest in the coumpound...

You seem to be relatively safe to explore the coumpound to your liking. At the very least, you no longer seem to be under constant threat of eplosion...

"What a strange place, this must be the palace of kings!"

His sarcasm likely lost, he checks his gear. "We should find what we came for and then head back to the shuttle. Fuel, food, water."
Nov 19, 2021 2:49 am
"Yeah, I guess we can head back to the ship, regain our strength there. I'm not sure if the pulse killed all those crabs or if there are any left in here... then I guess we can continue exploring. Who knows what else we might find here... And then there are all those people in cryo tubes..." Shrugged Nero.

"People?" Asked Kanza. "There are other people here in cryo tubes?"

"Oh yeah, I guess you missed them taking the lift..." responds Nero.

Mesec keeps quiet for a moment.
OOC:
How far is the nearest inhabited planet?
Nov 20, 2021 3:49 pm
Nero shakes his head.

"No. Judging by the size of the room, I'd say there were about 5000 pods in there. About half of those were occupied, so that would mean around 2500 frozen people. We cannot carry them on such a small ship. Not even as cargo. We'll have to relay the location of this place to some other governmental entity so they can mount some sort of rescue."

Kandza looks horrified at this news.

"Over 2000 people frozen here? What were they doing in this place?"

Nero simply shrugs.

"Well, considering that when we accidentally started that self-destruct sequence, the automated message referred to us as specimens, I'd say nothing good..."
Nov 20, 2021 5:59 pm
"Well, shit... Do you think we can find anything on the mainframe before we get the hell away from here? Could we perhaps unfreeze a couple to take with us? Perhaps they know something about this bloody place."

Mesec has been feeling quite a bit overwhelmed with all this, despite the things he has seen piloting various ships.
His inquisitive nature wouldn't let him forget the sight of the numerous cryo pods and the alien acid crabs even if he couldn't wait to get the hell away from that planet.
Nov 30, 2021 4:48 am
I would say no to trying to unfreeze someone. I am a robot specialist and have medical training. I mean we don't even know the language and trying to play with the computer just to start the procedure is tough enough. If we do happen to do it the long term effects of this will be unknown and we are not medically equipped to do that. letting others know to come here and take care of them is the best call. i mean how much could another month or so in cryo hurt them at this point.

Still it wouldn't hurt to take any tech we find lying around with us, just in case.

Samantha looks around, but right now, there isn't much of interest expect the large machine in the room where you all are. You guess you could always dismantle it, but then again, it is producing the electromagnetic field which should keep those pesky crabs away...

Seems that the only logical thing left is to explore this place floor by floor either before or after the gang has received some healing back at the Dawn Star (as IIRC, the party has taken up their daily allowance of first-aid...).
Dec 12, 2021 4:53 pm

He then turns to Kandza.

"In case things go south, you have a weapon?"

She shakes her head.

"I'm afraid I'm down to my knife. I emptied my magazine in panic while fleeing..."

Nero groans...

"Great... Alright, let's go. Try to stay behind me, hopefully this little gizmo will make quick work of any crabs we may encounter..."

Nero merely sighed again, he had hoped the party would have seen reason in healing up first...

"Alright, let's follow puddles over here..."

You carefully make your way across the bridge, now slick with the viscera of "space crabs", carefully avoiding the more damaged areas. You finally reach the other side where the rock face crumbled as the swarm of crabs burst out. You also find Trudy's remains, the robot that sacrificed itself to give you time to cross the bridge safely.

Nearby, you see the doors accessing the two rooms you had not time to explore, then in front of you, the stairs and the lift, both heading up.

Sam tries to carefully remove Trudy's CPU, hoping to save her companion's personality and hopefully transfer it to a new robotic body, however, a surge of emotions swell up as she's working on the "corpse" of what has been her only companion for so long. She tries to work as best she can through the sudden tears blurring her vision, slow, methodical... until she hears a loud audible "snap". This can't be good...

Meanwhile, Sorrack sneaks to the stairwell, confident his squishy "tiptoes" are making him as silent as the wind. He peers into the stairs the group had taken mere moments ago and notice several new "crab" holes which were not there before, but they all seem to be leaking some nauseous liquid that Sorrack, judging by the acrid smell, deduces must be metal-eating, acid-spewing crab viscera.
Dec 30, 2021 3:30 am

"Clear, I think. It looks like those crabs are really tearing this place apart, but they've evolved to a much higher liquid state." Sorrack follows them back to the left door. "Want me to open, so you can shoot if you need to?"

Presuming a yes-answer, Sorrack opens the door.
Dec 30, 2021 7:37 pm
"Liquid state?"

Nero finally gets it when he glances back at the bridge covered in crab guts...

"Oh yeah, I see... Sure, go ahead and open, it'll allow me to still shoot over your head as well if I need to."

Then as the door open wider, you notice several pieces of equipment of alien design next to those puddles of melted metal, aligned right next to each other. They look like perhaps some form of computers or data transferring devices... well, definitely of electronic nature at least... You spot some more holes further in the room, but the all seem to be leaking crab guts so it looks clear.

"Well, I'll be damned... Those things threw quite some party here... Too bad for the servers though..."

He shrugs;

"It doesn't seem like there's anything salvageable here. And no sign of a liquor cabinet either. Onwards then comrades. Let's get going."
Jan 2, 2022 9:54 pm
Nero has a quick look inside.

"Seems like they're not all destroyed... perhaps Federation Navigation systems Inc. will be able to get something out of those and pay us a pretty credit for telling them about those..."

Kandza frowns at Nero's mention of being in this for the credits, and then starts analyzing the alien tech with her portacomp.

Not near my book right now but is there a way for me to assist in helping Sorrack's roll
Jan 3, 2022 4:00 pm
OOC:
@ Sorrack: Dismantling the memory cores of servers of unknown alien design will be at the very least a 3-point extended check (referee's handbook p.23) with a -10 penalty. This would have resulted in your 77 being a critical failure, but since Sam is helping (see below), it makes it a critical success instead. This will count as 2 successes so far, so you have 1 last check to make.

@ Sam: Yes: Helping provides a +10 to the leader's check if your own skill is within 10 points of the leader's (referee's handbook p.23). Despite the size of the servers, electronic components tend to be rather small and delicate, so I declare that only one person can help Sorrack (Sam). Anyone else "helping" can simply choose a different server and attempt their own 3-points extended check.

The dismantling goes really well so far, thanks to Sam's help. For some odd reason, despite the alien nature of the server, to components seem rather intuitive to Sorrack... There is still some work left to do, however.

It takes several long minutes, and you're half expecting an attack from crabs... but eventually, Sorrack is confident he has safely extracted the memory cores from the servers... Well, at least he thinks they're memory cores... And no signs of the crabs.
Jan 11, 2022 3:53 am
So we got what we needed out of this room time to check out the other room. Let's do it the same way as before when we enter.
Jan 11, 2022 10:18 pm
You make your way to the larger of the two rooms on this floor. The opening is facing the lift... however the door is missing. You're struggling to recollect whether this door had always been missing and you were just too busy calming Kandza down when you found her that you never noticed it, or if perhaps the crabs might have broken it down when they swarmed into the hallway...

Looking through the opening, you notice the room seems to be flooded with brackish water which has leaked from a large tank full of melted holes. The floor of this room seems to be lower than where you are currently standing as you can spot at least one step through the brackish water. There is not way to know how deep the water gets by just looking at it...
Jan 12, 2022 1:01 am

Here's what it says: "Although they can hold their breath and swim just like all other species, Dralasites won't float without spending several minutes preparing by creating air pockets within their bodies. Also, because they breathe through their skin directly, they will drown if submersed (even partially) in water while unconscious."

So yeah, you'll basically sink like a rock, and since the water is brackish, you won't see where you're going... Just a heads up, that might turn up ugly for you...

I don't have the equipment to scan it. Is it even worth it? I am all for gathering salvage but we are a little banged up as a group. diving into who knows what doesn't seem to smart. I mean I guess we could lower a rope out as far as we can hang it to see if we can get a depth but other than going in, I doubt we will find anything.

"Where's the damn thing?... I don't think I dropped it somewhere... For the love of.. Hey! There it is!"

Mesec takes out an infrared scanner from his backpack and presents it to the rest of the group in a theatrical manner.

"Let's see what else I have here..."

In turn, Mesec pulls out a Torchlight and a length of rope.

"See, this is getting tied up with that and they'll be used as a line and bait"
he said pointing at the last two things out from his backpack.

"Then, it's this "whachucallem's" time to shine; if there's anything bellow, it should pick it up."

Mesec activates his infrared sensor which produces a ping and maps heat signatures in a 5 kilometres radius. Aside from yourselves, there aren't many heat signatures left in the compound, and judging by their size and shapes, and the fact they seem immobile, the remaining heat signatures seem to indicate machinery. Still that doesn't rule out cold-blooded organisms (which makes Mesec hope those crabs were warm-blooded just so he can finally have some good news...). There also seem to be a heat map from outside the compound, which would indicate the doors have opened up again (and of course, the heat signature of the Dawn Star is visible).

Mesec then proceed to phase two of his "let's find out what's in the murky pool plan" by deftly securing the torchlight to his rope, and expertly throwing it exactly where he wanted to (showing you the pond to be quite shallow actually, maybe a meter in depth at most). Then with great skill, imitates the motion of some living being in distress. You wait for something to happen... and nothing... If there was something alive in there, it would have shown some interest to the motion of the strange light in the water... You are all now assured that there is no danger waiting for you in that water. Well, none of a big angry toothy beast category, at least...

It'll also take 30 minutes, just like diagnosing a patient...
Sam takes some water sample and examines them. It takes a bit of improvisation, and some time, but she manages to determine that the water is definitely not safe to consume. It would not be dangerous to go in the water, however, as there does not seem to be any contact poisons or toxins in it. OOC:
Oh yeah, almost forgot, since this is a new session, if any of you had spent any Destiny Points, those are also back."
You make your way back using the stairways. It seems in worse condition than last time as many new crab holes seem to have appeared. At one point, a section seems to have collapsed, but you could easily make the jump across or set some sort of rope bridge system. Since you have plenty of time now there there are no more self-destruct countdown, you manage, with some effort to cross that obstacle, and eventually make your way toward that large cylindrical room filled with stasis chambers. At the corner of the "L" shaped walkway, there is this computer terminal with one red blinking light. While at the end of the walkway, there seem to be a mechanical arm mechanism, probably used in the retrieving of stasis capsules...

Feb 5, 2022 5:28 pm
Nero speaks up.

"That's an interesting theory Puddles, but I doubt this will be the case. This place has been deserted for who knows long... Plus, keeping in mind that the computer called us "specimens" when we accidentally activated the self-destruct sequence, I think only the original inhabitants were putting people in stasis here. I guess one of the crew could have accidentally put themselves into stasis while playing with this console, but given they were chased by crabs at the time, I highly doubt it..."
Feb 12, 2022 10:06 pm
So, are you trying to wake someone or are you continuing upstairs?
Feb 12, 2022 11:39 pm
Sorrack looks at the stasis pods. "Let's leave them, then. If they're not who we are looking for then they probably want to be there, plus we have no way to get them all off this planet. They're safer in there."
Feb 13, 2022 4:08 am
I agree they are safer here. We don't know enough to do it safely. We need to continue our way up.
Feb 13, 2022 6:57 am

Feb 13, 2022 3:46 pm
Kandza replies. "Starving and dehydrated, but otherwise, I'm fine. I guess the sooner I get back to the Dawn Star, the better..."

You make it up to the next floor. The emergency light have gone out this time around, and you can see the long corridor of glassed rooms better. The scent of antiseptics and disinfectants assault your nostrils.

The group carefully makes their way down the corridor, toward the first pair of doors. The western door seems to have been half melted, though the eastern door looks fine. I am all for exploring but wading through that water and dealing with crab guts is another thing entirely. , Sam says as she follows along looking into each room.

Hey Sorrack, when absorbing rocks did you ever think about putting them into your hands and using them kind of like brass knuckles?

I have to admit I am kinda split, the technician in me wants to check out the container but the scavenger realizes that rocks can be worth a lot. I mean if a diamond is over there well you may want to rethink just giving the rocks up. I guess i will start with the container and go from there. I am kind of disappointed so far but hey we come this far.

I guess I will help with the container but am curious what Sorrack finds in his pet rock collection. Oh and make sure they are rocks not eggs, otherwise absorbing them might not be a good thing.
Mar 16, 2022 9:46 pm
Mesec, making a series of theatrical bows towards Sorrack, enters the room with the container while saying over his shoulder:
"This shouldn't take long; keep some pebbles for us to nibble on as well Sorrack, will you?"

Sorrack swings his 'arms' around thinking about having rocks in the ends. He tries to peek around the edge of the door to see past Mesec's big butt. "Hey, remember to lift with your back, not your knees!" he offers helpfully, not really understanding bones and stuff.
Mar 16, 2022 11:54 pm
Mesec enters the room, and realize the container to be some sort of carrier, flipped on it's side, complete with small air holes, handle, and door. The carrier is empty. Not sure what it was used for. Perhaps to carry one of those crabs? It is certainly big enough for having done so...
Mar 21, 2022 1:37 am
Peeking around Mesec she says, Ooh, an alien cat carrier. I wonder what is in it. I could use a pet. I mean they wouldn't let me keep a live pet when I was with my last crew. They said it took up too much air and resources. That is kind of what got me into robotics. Still medicine was my first love but as a scavenger you learn to be flexible. They seem to have been collecting people down stairs, and by the carriers, they might also have tried to collect acid crabs, so why not adding rocks to the list? Still, if you ask me, a stamp collection might have been a lot less troublesome..."

Kandza then turned to Mesec. "Well, he's not wrong, you know. Plus, if those crab things forced to people to evacuate in a hurry, perhaps we'll find more. I'm curious as to what the original inhabitants looked like, and what their language and culture looked like. Hopefully, we'll find some sort of recorded data somewhere..."

There is a platform capable of holding a humanoid creature, complete with wrists and ankle restraints, and it seems the arms and legs can swing and be pushed away from the main table. There is some sort of armature which rise from the table and rises above. Also, there are what you could classify as medical carts, flipped on their sides. But there also seems to be a humanoid form slumped against a wall. Trying to remember which buttons she pressed when she accidentally turned off the lights, she tries to do the same with the robot and... though the robot does not stop, it seems to have slowed down. Perhaps Sam succeeded in starting some subroutine in its programming which is requiring loads of memory or CPU usage. No way of knowing how long the robot'll be slowed however...

Nero is up next.

"Hold on, electromagnetic fields, I think my little gizmo might be able to disable this robot after all..."

Dragging the robot along, you make your way out of the room. There are still two doors left, with those room not having any windows (or what passes for windows in this strange place), or there are the stairs which can take you back to the previous level (or outside for that matter).
Apr 22, 2022 7:17 pm

I think we should take a look. We got some salvage but who knows what else is here. Don't look forward to going all the way back up only to come back down. I say we pile our loot at the stairs first though, so if we retreat we are closer to getting the stuff up to the top.
Apr 23, 2022 3:46 am
You stack your salvage near the bottom of the stairwell and make your way back towards the two last doors. Those doors strangely don't seem to be locked, unlike all the other doors on this floor. A quick look inside leads you to believe those used to be some sort of restroom or lavatories. You doubt there is anything of value in there, unless you feel like the Frontier is in dire need of new alien toilet technology...

Sorrack knocks on the door, but his soft pseudopod hands just make a soft squelching noise. "There's a trick to this, isn't there?" He pulls out a rock sample from his body and uses that to bang on the door loudly three times.
May 2, 2022 11:54 pm
Sorrack knocks on the metallic door with his ore sample. A loud metallic clang sounds resonate in the empty complex. For a moment, you fear you might have attracted unwanted attention... until you are answered with the splotch of crab guts falling on the floor in the next room and remember they all most likely were killed by the EMP blast...

While the door does not open, Sorrack does notice he left a really small dent in it. Perhaps more vigorous knocking might allow you to demolish the door but this might come at the cost of one of your precious sample... Of course, Sorrack does not need as big of a hole as the rest of the group...

Doors are electronically locked, so if you want to unlock it, you'll have to make a technician check and expend provisions on your techkit... which will sort of defeat the whole point of making a hole for you to go through...

Sorrack has finally explored the entire floor. The last room is a bit disappointing. You assume it must have been another administrator and/or assistant office like the one where you found the data wafers, but it has been absolutely trashed, and part of the western wall has collapsed, probably having been dug too much by your crabby friends... As such, the room is filled with rubble and bits of broken furniture.

Sorrack gathers all the data wafers he can from this office and the last one, then returns to the hallway through the hole he made.

He tells the others, "Waste of time, maybe. I found some data chips, but don't know how to read them yet."
May 8, 2022 7:27 pm
Kandza looks at the data wafers quizzically for a moment before she offers the following suggestion. "That's a long shot, but perhaps we could see if the robot Sam salvaged has any data wafer readers, and I could use the jack on my portacomp to plug into the robot, and I might be able to read those that way... Otherwise, we might need to find an alien computer and try to figure out how to work out those..."
May 8, 2022 9:12 pm

"Strange robot..."

She inserts a data wafer and then types on her portacomp... She manages to get something. An image appears on the screen of her portacomp... It's a strange blue planet, third one from a sun you cannot identify. It then show a foggy city on a large island, with gaslit street lights, cobblestone streets, and horse carriages. Then the image follows a man dressed in a cloak, wearing a suit and stove top hat and walking with a cane. He is followed for a while through dark alleys until whatever is trailing him immobilize him and transport him to their ship... You then see several similar scenes of various species of the Frontier getting kidnapped from what looks like their original home worlds, some common, some rarer, though the Novim shine by their absence here.
Eventually, the feed changes to what you assume must have been the alien species which perform those abductions, some strange humanoid with thick swarthy skin and an elephantine trunk, speaking in a strange guttural unknown language.

"Seems like they've been abducting people for a very long time... Long before any of use came here, to the Frontier..."

Kandza then switches data wafer, but gets nothing out of the second one...

"Dratz! In think this one's data has become corrupted over time..."

Mesec's keep eye quickly evaluates the three rooms with "windows" into which he can see. The largest one seems to be some sort of cantina or café thanks the the row of neatly stacked, slightly larger than usual tables lined agains the far wall. The long vertical room connecting to the corridor seems to be some sort of gym thanks the the many mats of some sort of rubber polymer arranged on the floor with equal spacing, he can even see a few of them have deep impressions in them as if through frequent use... But what attracts Mesec's attention the most, is the long horizontal room connected to the cantina/café with a single large swinging door... It is obviously a kitchen, but there is a strange metallic gleam coming from one of the half-opened drawers which seems to indicate something interesting might be in there...

If you truly wish to make this a competition, you can make a contested AGL check.
You make your way through the doors, which luckily for you, are not locked this time around. You have to slow down in the kitchen though as the floor is covered in odd shapes of material... You're not too sure what happened here... though you do realize this kitchen has no refrigeration units, which is odd to say the least...

You then make your way to the drawer which you pull open to find five kitchen knives of alien design. The material they are made of is unknown, but they look very sharp, and considering how long they might have been in there, seem to be able to keep an edge...
OOC:
Basically, if you want to use those knives as weapons, they inflict 1D+2 damage due to their keen edge. However, since they are chef's knives and not combat knives, they are a bit larger than your regular knives, making them a bit bulky. This will translate to a -20% to your CRD check made to draw the weapon as a single action (normally, if you start combat without a weapon ready, all you can do in your 1st round of combat is draw a weapon and move, however, you always have the opportunity to quickly draw a weapon as a single action with a CRD check which counts towards your M-A penalties, that's covered in the Referee's Handbook...).

May 25, 2022 11:14 pm
"Well, these definitely don't seem to be of interest - other than the artistic value of this statement really." he said, raising an eyebrow, trying to impress Kandza. Getting a strong feeling of ridiculousness, he rushes to add: "Although to be frank, I'm not sure that this was supposed to be some sort of elaborate piece of art..."

Sorrack tears down the pile, one chair at a time. He's got no time for gentle glances and subtle half-looks.
May 26, 2022 1:03 am
For his effort, Sorrack is rewarded with... A room full of upturned chairs and tables he's going to have to navigate on his way out...
May 26, 2022 10:47 am
"Although I do appreciate the occasional spatial hyperreal abstractism Sorrack the Unprecedented, I think that those might get in our way. On the other hand, you might be an artistic genius that cannot be comprehended by mere humans and whatnot. Anyhow, I'd suggest we keep on ascending - floors I mean. You're handling our cultural ascension just fine as you are. Shall we?"
He adds with a subtle courtesy bow and turns to exit the room.
May 26, 2022 4:57 pm
Sorrack fluidly extracts himself from the chairpocalypse, and grins widely at Mesec. "Cultural ascension? Ha! That's rich. You meatbags can't even comprehend a full spectrum of the audio and visual, er, spectrums. What can you say about culture that I couldn't get from one of those crabs?"
May 28, 2022 2:41 am
Samantha joins them finding nothing by where she looked.

Did you say spectrum, I thought you couldn't see color, at least I think I remember seeing that in a medical journal, somewhere. she says as she joins the group to continue their exploration.
May 28, 2022 4:12 pm
"I see the light of the colours, but don't perceive as such, but instead of a richer field of grays." He sniffs indignantly at being called out, but since he breathes through his skin, his whole body just retracts a little bit.
May 28, 2022 7:15 pm
"I'll take your word for it comrade Sorrack."
Mesec glances at his hand, still holding the newly aquired knife and sighs.
"Shiny." He turns around and walks back to the corridor.
OOC:
There's still a room we cannot see through the not-glass window that is yet to be explored, right? If so, I'm heading that way, otherwise I'm impatiently heading towards the staircase.

OOC:
Nope, you're ready to head up to the next floor...
May 29, 2022 6:02 pm
"Up, up and away fellow survivors! We even got our memorabilia now!" said Mesec mockingly, referring to the knives he and Sorrack raced to get. It was a wonder that they didn't break any bones or whatever Sorrack could possibly break in the process.
May 29, 2022 10:54 pm
You make your way up to the next floor.
https://i.imgur.com/Uur6MeB.png
You find yourself in another long corridor lit by emergency lights, bathing the whole floor in an orange glow. There is a series of doors close by each other on either side of the corridor suggesting living quarters, and one last door at the end of the corridor.
OOC:
I won't waste my time with a fog of war on this floor as it will be pretty simple...

"Your turn to lead Mesec. I'll keep an eye out for crabs."
May 30, 2022 3:58 pm
"Naturally my blobius friend. Who can resist venturing in the majestic ambient of emergency lights?"

Having made yet another ironic remark, Mesec moves down the corridor - his attention caught by the door at the end of the hallway.
Jun 5, 2022 6:58 pm
Sam not not sure if they should leave the door on each side unchecked at first still follows Mesec down the hall keeping an ear out for any unusual sounds.
Jun 5, 2022 7:06 pm
You make your way to the door at the end of the corridor, it is not locked and any noise you hear is your own footstep and the gear you drag along.
Jun 6, 2022 4:20 pm
After seeing that the door isn't locked, Mesec triumphantly opens the door, kitchen knife in hand and goes
"A-ha!"
Jun 6, 2022 7:28 pm
Your "A-ha!" resonates in what is essentially a communal washroom. Sadly, no dramatic entry for Mesec... The place seems to have been spared by the crabs and is simply dusty.
Jun 6, 2022 11:14 pm
"A spa! No time for dillydallying, Mesec, your coif will have to wait another time."
Jun 9, 2022 11:51 am
Mesec frowns; "Nothing to see here, move along." he says and abruptly exits the room.
Jun 9, 2022 2:59 pm
Sorrack jiggles a door to a side room with the one hand that isn't helping drag a robot. "Let's check these quarters. Maybe we'll find a journal that explains some of what we've seen, or perhaps valuables of some kind."
Jun 9, 2022 4:47 pm
OOC:
Alright, since that part is goint to be pretty repetitive and boring, and because I don,t want to make our 3 new players wait too much, I'll speed things up a bit.

Each of the remaining doors on this floor are for personal quarters. None of them are locked, and the overwhelming majority of those will have nothing but melted furniture and the occasional crab hole...

So simply roll me a PER check to see if you manage to find anything interesting, I'll modify it by the appropriate skill myself, and then give you the results. I'll go ahead adn roll for Nero and Kandza.

You move from room to room, finding very little of interest, but in one relatively intact one, thanks to combined efforts of Mesec and Kandza, you find another 3 intact alien "data wafers"...

Jun 11, 2022 4:11 pm
Kandza inserts jacks her portacomp to the robot and inserts the first wafer. You see the image of a rotund humanoid with a short trunk and brown-grew swarthy skin addressing itself to whatever recording device was used to make this data wafer in low, deep rumbling or loud trumpeting sounds. The video goes on for a while, and by the alien's demeanor, it seems to be the sort of video you'd make to send news to friends or family members or something similar... Aside from showing what the previous occupants of this place looked like, and to prove they indeed had complex social interactions and societal structures, this data wafer is of little interest...

Kandza than tries in the second wafer... and it seems to be blank.

She then tries the last wafer... and that's when you hit the jackpot! You see a familiar room, where you found your 5 carrier cases a few levels down. The carrier cases are on the table, each containing one of those weird crab creatures surrounded by other trunked aliens who seems to be observing their behaviors discussing among themselves and taking notes. The same trunked individual form the previous video, now wearing what could pass as a lab coat is addressing the camera, his tone of "voice" sounding more professional now, as he's probably discussing those new critters they've discovered. The crabs in the carrier cases look very aggressive, trying to spit their acid, but the carrier seems to resist it. That is until an order seems to be given, and one of the trunked creatures open one of the carriers, the crab jumps out and spits acid at his observers. Things become pandemonium, trunked aliens fall down burnt, others run around, the other carrier cases are knocked in the panic and open upon falling to the ground releasing more crabs, the camera is knocked down only to be picked up again b the same individual who seems to be running away while still attempting to calmly continue his report on those creatures... the whole place seems to be on alert now... then the video abruptly ends...

"W-wow... I think we know what happened to this place now..."

"No need to build up suspense Kandza... What is this place? And what happened here?"
Jun 13, 2022 7:36 pm
"I think with the people in stasis downstairs and what we've found on those data wafers, the original occupents of this place were collecting specimens from across the galaxy, and bringin them here to... I guess study? In a strange, morbid way, I guess they were scientists, curious about life on other planets. While I can't commend their methods, it did seem to have blown up in their face when they brought those crab-spider things here... I'm guessing they all died here, or perhaps abandoned the place and cut their loss, hard to say for certain either way."
Jun 15, 2022 7:40 am
"Serves them right... Twisted bastards!..."
Mesec tried to restrain himself, but his trembling clutched fists gave him away.

"Let's move." he said abruptly; "the sooner we leave this hellhole, the better."
Jun 15, 2022 3:08 pm
You briskly make your way toward the last floor (with the small observation gallery above not really counting as it was full of computer consoles), the hangar where most of you had encountered the strange crab things and found the body of the Erakai medic. There are still a few doors you had not explored here... You also noticed that the front hangar doors have opened again, and you can even see the Dawn Star, your ticket out of this dump, in the distance.

Jun 17, 2022 1:06 am
Sorrack lunges and opens the opposite door, as if hoping to surprise something.
Jun 17, 2022 1:16 am
The surprise awaiting Sorrack is the bitter irony of finding 6 enviro suits (albeit of alien design), the one thing which could have help protect you against those crabs' acid spit attack, in the very last room of this damed complex you opened, and yet so close to you all this time... The universe must be laughing at Sorrack right now... 4 of them looks to be in poor condition though, but perhaps one or two could be repaired by cannibalizing the other damaged suits. There seems to be a lot of high-tech stuff in there as well, probably stuff that could be used to replenish some kits, if you take the time to search for the right thing, that is. Other than that, there seems to be another magnetic box-moving thingie just like what Nero is wielding, though, one again, only one seems to be in working order, and once again, perhaps one of the broken ones could be repaired by scavenging the other.

Sorrack tries to fix one of the damaged envirosuits. Checking things, he realize he needs to cannibalize components from 2 damaged suits to repair one. He takes a few dozen minutes trying to repair it, but sadly, his fixes doesn't seem to work. Perhaps it is the suit's alien design? Yes, that'll be his excuse... Still, sadly, this now all leaves you with only 2 good envirosuits, 2 damaged ones, and 2 scrapped ones which have now become useless...
Jul 8, 2022 6:09 pm
Mesec is going from control panel to control panel, touching and sniffing (???) the ship's interior. It's like he's caressing it.

"Yvonne, baby. It's so good to hear you. I missed you so much."
Jul 10, 2022 4:05 pm
Mesec makes his way towards the ship as Sorrack puts the finishing touches on the damaged envirosuit.

"Welcome back Mesec. I still see you have this strange habit of flirting with me despite the fact that I am an A.I. and cannot reciprocate affection. Where are the others? Are they well?"
Jul 11, 2022 8:44 pm
"A man never gives up hope Yvonne. As for the others, I know as much as Kandza does. Yularia's gone kaput and Alex is missing. I don't have any high hopes for his survival I'm afraid..."

Mesec momentarily looks like he's lost in his thoughts;

"Say darling, how's the booze cabinet's stock? Still holding up? I believe we could all use a drink now and I'm curious to see drunk Sorrack. Do you turn to a puddle friend? How does that work?"
Jul 11, 2022 11:22 pm
Sorrack slowly drags the medical robot and the environment suits they managed to find (and not mangle) across the sand to the ship. "We ready to get off this terribly disappointing space-crab infested rock?"
Jul 13, 2022 5:22 pm
"This is unfortunate news. All that is left to do now is pick up Gren and Dask who left with the ATVs. With the electromagnetic disturbances gone, I managed to pinpoint their location thanks to their transponders. They have not answered any of my hails, however. Also, we do not have an alcohol cabinet, though, I suspect you did smuggle some on board..."

Nero then chimes in.

"Oh yeah, about that... I believe this is yours..."

He then hands Mesec a flask of Yarr Brandy. The flask is half-empty now...
Jul 17, 2022 6:20 pm
Mesec shakes the flask and frowns;
"Uncool Doc, uncool... But it'll do for now. We'll share this when we pick up Gren and Dask - you've had your share Doc, no Yarr for yar." Mesec snickers with his joke.

"Do you have their coordinates Yvonne darling?"
OOC:
I somehow missed your post Kal, sorry for the hold up.
Jul 17, 2022 6:46 pm
"Yes."

Following Yvonne's instructions, you make your way to Gren's and Dasks' coordinates, sadly to find them dead, obviously attacked by the same critters which made your lives miserables those past days. Their equipment has also been partially melted, meaning there is nothing worth salvaging. The FNS will be upset at having lost so many personnel and equipment on what was supposed to be a routine survey expedition...

You eventually leave orbit, refuel at a nearby gas giant, taxi to the system's FTL horizon, and then set course for the Daegon sector in the Galactic Federation 12 Light Years away (so 12 days of travel with the Dawn Star's FTL drive of 1 LY per day, leaving you plenty of tie to heal).

Once on Daegon, the FNS will pay you 2 days wages at your current pay grade (yes, even Mesec who was out for months; his pay came with a pink slip from the offices in the Firestar system. Seems like old enemies have managed to stiff Mesec on his pay and fire him, holding him solely responsible for the events which happened on Delcia, after all he did smuggled alcohol on board... Obviously an intimidation tactic so he won't sue for missing pay... Seems like nothing is holding you back from adventuring with those who rescued you now.). The FNS will also be interested in purchassing any alien artefact you're willing to part with at the following rates:
Working Enviro Suits: 500© each.
Working Data Wafers: 800© each.
Alien Kit Provisions: 50© each.
Working Magnetic Clamps: 500© each.
Rock Samples: 20© each (half that for the damaged one).
Alien Kitchen Knives: 25© each.
Alien Carriers: 10© each.
Alien Medical Robot: 500©
Alien Servers Memory cores: 800©

Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot, this is the end of another session, so DP time. (I think I can skip Nero and Sorrack for this...)
Everyone gains a base of 4 DPs.
Masecs gains another 2 DPs for personal stake and roleplaying.
Regain any spent Destiny.
(Sam, you're still missing a descriptor btw.)
Jul 25, 2022 3:10 pm
Hmm, okay, I guess I should keep track of what the NPCs have and are willing to sell...

Kandza has all the data wafers, 3 with data, 1 blank, and 1 corrupted, so that would be 2400© right there.

I guess Nero could depart with his alien chef knife and magnetic clamp, so that's another 525@. (there were 5 knives and 4 players, did you gave the last one to Kandza?)
Jul 25, 2022 4:26 pm
OOC:
Yeap. I'll throw my own alien knife on the "loot to sell" pile as well. And I think that is as far as my riches go.
Jul 31, 2022 11:48 pm
Okay, found the place where the party found the alien knives. It starts here, and you can scroll down from there. 5 knives were found, and by the looks of things, everyone has one, inclusing Kandza, I guess, so she could add her own knife to the stash of stuff sold to the FNS.

So you're up to an extra 3500© earned so far. Anyone else selling something else?
Aug 7, 2022 3:32 pm
Okay, well it's been about a week, nobody else has chimed in, so I'm assuming the rest of you are keeping the knives, the rock samples, the carriers, the memory cores, the enviro-suits, and the medical robot. That means that Nero, Sorrack, Sam, and Mesec gain an extra 875© on top of being paid for their two-days mission (at rank 0, your pay grade is 300© per day, so another 600© there if you did not had already noted those...).

If you want to spend those DPs to improve your characters, now the time. The rules for character development start on p.95. Do not forget that in this version of the rules, you need to spend © to improve your character as it is implied you hire a trainer or buy or rent some one-time instruction program or something... Also do not forget that any spent DP turn into Renown (yes Antiproduct, the more DP you had, the more famous you become...) as FS has a sort of "level Up" system (see p.97).

If you have any question about improving your character, do not hesitate to ask.
