Chapter 1 - The Falu Four

Late in the evening each of your holo-messengers light up. Your contact, who hasn't been heard from in several weeks has plans for the latest ambush. As before there are maps detailing where the Resource Team will be arriving and a suggested location where to best lay your trap. Unlike the previous messages the contact's voice is quiet and rushed as if he's trying to avoid detection. The message ends with the voice trailing off, before abruptly ending: "This will be an unusual team from what I can gather. Their objective is unknown."

The location for the ambush is a block of residential flats that were in the process of being constructed before Cronwick arrived a few months earlier. Supplies and labor have been "redirected" to the Imperial site outside of town, leaving the flats as nothing more than empty shells. They are located on the southern edge of the city where the Resource Team is scheduled to arrive just before dawn.

Nell parks her currier speeder bike and takes out her Macrobinocular. With that she scans the area. Are the others here? Is there someone watching their meeting place?

Once she is satisfied, she prepares to wait.
As an afterthought, she throws a tarp over the speeder bike, just to make it harder to spot. She makes sure that the air intake is not obstructed.

Through her macrobinoculars Nell can clearly see the unfinished, two story rows of flats on either side of the narrow street on which the Resource Team is planning to traverse upon their arrival.

Her quick scan also reveals something else. Two of Falu's finest are slowly walking along the front of one the structures, stopping every six or seven meters for a few seconds before continuing on.
NPCs says:
Falu Security Force (FSF): The local police force that has, to this point, resisted any influence that the recently arrived Imperials may have been trying to push. Generally accepted as a friendly and helpful group that deals fairly with the residents of the city.

Guy could already feel a headache coming on. 'They know I am not a field agent, yet insist on sending me on these missions.' he rubbed his temples with his fingertips, . . no point in stalling, may as well head out.

Gurag moves rapidly on foot towards the rendezvous point. Vehicle movements being easy to track he opted to head there on foot. As he get's close he spies something covered in a tarp. Than Nells bike? he thinks before he says in a quiet growl "Hey, anyone else here?"

Hush! The big woman hisses. She is human, but she is tall and strong build.
Local cops are on the street. Ideas to get them away? I'm thinking of sending them a sliced message, like a request for reinforcement, somewhere away, but I'm open to better ideas.

Kip arrives, crouching as he creeps up to where the others were, hugging the shadows of the walls. To be honest, he had been here for a while, hiding behind a water barrel. But he simply wanted to make sure that the location wasn't compromised before any contact was made. He pop up and drops his two cents.

"You mean Falu's security? Not the Imps? How many?"

Just two of them. Here, take the Macrobinoculars. I'll try and send them away.

Nell moves to the back of the building, connecting her sliver deck to holonet residential hub. The goal is to send to two cops a message requesting backup in a nearby industrial area. They are looking for an escaped death stick dealer. She provides a description, matching a shady figure that Nell, meet the other day.

Carefully entering the message meant to mislead the FSF members Nell's attempt to transmit is greeted with the response: "FATAL ERROR: POWER SURGE ON NETWORK."

It isn't more than a few seconds later that the group can hear a couple of faint "pops".

Anyone with eyes on the two security officers have clearly seen two flashes, one originating from each, right at belt level. After a moment of hand waving and pointing, during which one of the officers throws their communicator to the ground, they both start to walk down the street towards town, away from the ambush site.
OOC:
Not a successful slice in that it didn't send the message, successful distraction in that both of their communicators have been disabled - can't let a good triumph go to waste.

Nell looks at the area. They have to stop a transport, can they find something over to block the street, throw a net, harpune or grab the transport with a crane?

Kip squints as he hears the sparking communicators. As the law enforcement leaves, he analyzes the situation.

"We could just have someone stand in the middle of the street to stop the transport. Then the rest of us gets the jump on them from the sides."

'Risky, they could just decide to run me over' guy replies, assuming he would be the 'bait' in this scenario. 'Maybe we could block the road with some of the debris from the construction site?'

Gurag just grunts at the suggestions so far "Someone in the road they'll just drive round. Same for if they see something blocking the road most likely. Trick would be to catch em by surprise, get something to fall in their way so they have to stop all sudden like. Thats when we hit em.". He starts scanning the area looking if there is any thing that could be prepped in such a manner "A crane would be good if we could get something dangling over the road and drop it at the last second. Two would be better so we could box em in but that might be asking a bit much"

There are no cranes or any other heavy equipment in sight. You can assume that all of it has either been "borrowed" by the Empire or taken back to construction company's lot.

There is about an hour before sunrise and the arrival of the Resource Team.

Gurag sighs heavily as he sees a lack of construction equipment. "Guess we're doing this the hard way then" he says as he starts to try and shift some of the nearby materials into place to form a rudimentary roadblock.

Just thinking to shift enough stuff into the road to cause the Resource Team to at least pause at the ambush site

You know the path they’ll be using to enter the city. Unlike other ambushes your contact wasn’t able to give the exact route they will take once they’ve passed the ambush site. While there is no longer any heavy equipment around, there is enough debris within the buildings to create a makeshift blockade.

With out too much effort and a little bit a scrounging you're able to piece together a workable barricade. While it won't hold up a determined Resource Team for long, it will at least slow them down. With the sun just about to peek over the horizon, the sound of a shuttle can be heard approaching from the east.

A Lambda Class shuttle flies overhead towards the open grasslands just beyond your ambush site. Once clear of the buildings the pilot rotates the front end around and lifts the wings into landing position. With the dust settled the ramp lowers and two white armored troopers take position, flaking either side of the ramp. Your contact was right, this is an unusual Resource Team as the first appearance of the feared marksmen known as Stormtroopers in Falu will attest to.

Two more troopers, walking abreast, lead what appear to be two Imperial officers out of the shuttle to join the others. There is some discussion going on with the group as the ramp is raised and the shuttle readies to leave.

Four Stormtroopers and what appear to be two officers are just outside of town having a discussion. They are at long range at this point and none of you would have any issue getting into a position along the route without being seen.

So the Resource Team is delivering something to these troopers. This might be what they have been digging for all this time. We have to be quick before the troopers can aid the Resource Team.

After several minutes of discussion one of the officers waves off the shuttle which wastes no time in lifting off. Shielding themselves from the debris thrown up by the ship, the four troopers and two officers brush them selves off after it finally departs and start to form up.

The group is led by two troopers walking side by side, followed by the two officers, with the last two troopers bringing up the rear. The shorter of the two officers has her head focused on a data pad as the group moves forward on the street, towards the makeshift barrier.

One of the troopers is the first to spot the junk piled in the road and holds up his hand to bring everyone to a stop.

He whispers to the others.

"So, how do we handle this?"

Let them investigate, properly dropping their weapons before they try to remove the barricade. When they do, we strike?
I am liking this ops less and less.

The Resource Team is going to hand something over to the Imps. If we are going to stick it to the man, we have to prevent that. A quick attack now and hope we are victories before the Resource Team arrives? Otherwise we are fracked

"By the Maw, at least count to three or something!"

The lead Storm Trooper doesn't get a chance to talk before Gurag's slug rips through his helmet, dropping the Imperial where he stood in the middle of the narrow street. More than slightly unnerved by the sight of his partner's demise, the other lead trooper rushes forward, looking to gain some cover behind the barricade. What he finds instead is a grenade detonating directly in front of him. He's thrown back by the blast, his weapon sliding along the street before coming to rest at one of the officer's feet.

The female officer points towards the barricade. "Blast them!"

Burning the two Advantage from Gurag's shot to spook the other lead trooper to run towards the barricade. In the future feel free to edit your posts to let us if you'd like to use you Advantages/Triumphs in a particular way - otherwise I'll try to use them to your advantage how I see fit.

The two lead troopers are down, the two officers and two troopers have yet to act. The PCs have the first slot this round.

The dependable slug thrower does its job, striking the male officer square in the shoulder. Injured, but still in the fight he yells out. "Behind the barricade! Get him!". He and the other officer fire their blasters wildly as they move to one of the open doorways in the building to their right.

The Storm Troopers advance forward, each blasting from the hip as do, but accomplish little more than kicking up some dust and debris in the process.

No Adversary skills for the Imps yet - these officers are a Minion group, of sorts, for the purposes of this ambush.

Kip uses the crate in front of him as a rest, lining up a shot against one of the remaining Stormtroopers. Having found a good shot, he lets loose a plasma bolt.

I would like to use the Advantage to give a Boost die to someone else. Maybe the hit draws attention away from one of your guys' positions.

They had done enough successful missions that Guy honestly felt bad for the troopers. He figured he would at least give them a chance, i they were smart enough. 'Looks guys, you were clearly not prepared for this, and obviously outgunned. Drop your weapons and surrender, and you can walk out of this situation alive.' 'That's mostly true' He thought to himself.

The bolt from Kip's blaster strikes the trooper square in the chest, splintering the white armor as it absorbs some of the energy from the blast. While hurt, the resolute Imperial continues forward, both he and his partner answering Guy's plea by training their blaster rifles in his direction.

Realizing their position isn't doing them any favors the two Stormtroopers run to the closest door way and take aim at Guy plastering the area with fire, striking the Bothan in the process. The amount of fire they produce is impressive, but also leaves little doubt to their exact location.

With her partner down the remaining officer responds to Nell's attack with a quick shot of her own which just misses by mere millimeters. Without waiting the woman turns and disappears into the doorway.
OOC:

Nell's next shot from her current position will add 1 black for the dust flying about.

One officer is completely hidden - Medium distance.

Gurag roars a quick battle cry and vaults over the barrier, rushing to close with the two stormtroopers closest to him.

Guy clutches his sides in pain, about to collapse. He yells, Gurag! Don't kill them all, we still need answers. Did anybody see where that other officer went?' He then administers himself a stimpack, and catches his breath.

He then runs around the back of the building the officers are in, hoping to find a line of sight to the one still alive. If he finds her, he'll fire a stunning bolt into her filthy Imperial face.

Rushing around to the back of the building Kip is presented with an dark, empty alley. Frames for the rear entrances to the flats run the length, but there is no sign on the Imperial officer.
The Stormtrooper is caught off guard by the onrushing Weequay and Gurag takes full advantage. His brass-knuckled fist easily smashing through the trooper's helmet knocking the Imperial back a good few meters, and leaving him flat on his back.

With rifle-butt raised, the other trooper takes a wild swing at the back of Gurag's head but is unable to land the blow, missing completely, but putting himself in a very favorable defensive position.
OOC:
Used a black Destiny Point to upgrade the troopers attack on Gurag.
Any attack on the remaining trooper will add a black die.
Nell: Next shot from her current position will add 1 black for the dust flying about.
Kip: The alley way you're in is quite dark. Exrta black die for any action requiring vision.

One officer is completely hidden - Medium distance.
One Stormtrooper is now at a Short distance and Engaged with Gurag.

Nell flips open her datapad and does her very best to inisiate a powersurge in the local communication towers. She knows she cant jam the officers com link, but perhaps she can introduce enought noice to gabel any messages.

Felling slightly better, Guy heads after the officer. He calls out to the officer trying to reason with them; 'Bad news, all your Imp buddies are dead. Good news, that makes you the only person with the info we need. Come on out, and you won't share their fate'

GM EDIT: Changing the first purple to red - as it is an officer. (Whenever I do this, it will always be the first of the difficulty dice that will be changed). I probably won't edit other people's posts anymore though, can't get the PC avatar to show back up when I do that. :-(

The sounds of fighting quickly silenced themselves, no doubt after Gurag showed the elite troopers his area of expertise. Because of this, Kip was better able to use his senses to look for the last officer. He scans the area, keeping clear of windows should the officer prove to be of the crafty sort.

Working quickly on her datapad not only is Nell able to determine the best way to initiate another power surge, but is able to focus it to the frequency range used by The Empire.

FATAL ERROR: POWER SURGE ON NETWORK

The communicator next to the dead officer starts to loudly screech, and a fainter, similar sound can be heard from within the flat across from Nell's position.
Searching the fallen Imperials Gurag is able to turn up five frag grenades, and the officer's locked datapad. The troopers are also armed with Blaster Rifles.
Other than the sound of a screeching communicator, Kip neither sees nor hears anything of interest.
Guy's well reasoned offer produces better results than expected. The female officer walks out slowly, hands held high in the air. "Fine! Fine!" The officer is young, and judging from her insignia, newly commissioned.

A little further down the street an unkempt looking man staggers out into the street, arms waving madly about. "Just looking for a place to sleep. First the FSF tries to hassle me and then they send in the bucket heads. That's messed up, man!"

Kip heads towards the screech. Knowing how Nell operated, likely the screech came from a communicator. She always seemed to like knocking those things out, despite how illegal communications interference, or any matter of slicing, is.

He walks back into the square, and sees that the situation is mostly handled, with the officer surrendering. He walks next to Gurag as he searches the bodies, and picks up the locked datapad. He gives it a look over, and attempts to unlock it.

Gurag gathers all the gear up and glances at Kip working on the datapad. "If that's going to take a while might be best to do it back at the safehouse. We made a fair bit of noise so we shouldn't linger"

While Guy is working his magic on the officer, Kip looks over and notices the unkempt man.

"Yeah, right? Doesn't it just dry up your hydrolizers that you're not even allowed to sleep anymore without someone telling you off?

The officer relaxes a bit in Guy's presence but her hands remain above her head.

"This was my first mission. I was simply shadowing the captain over there. He was in charge." she states calmly. "We were supposed to make a couple of stops in town - I'm not sure why."
"I hear that! They can't just leave me be!" the man responds to Kip before he turns to go back towards the building. "Gonna crash for a bit longer. Uh, nice work with the Imps, man!"

In the distance, on the road heading back into town, Nell spots four FSF officers heading towards the ambush site at a brisk pace. It won't be more than a few minutes before they arrive at the scene.
An almost imperceivably smirk starts to form on the officer's lips at Guy's growing frustration. She slowly points over to Kip.

"Everything you want to know is on that datapad. I can't unlock it, and you'll only get a few tries. Shuttle will return this afternoon, as that's when we're scheduled to be finished."

Feeling less threatened she slowly starts to lower her hands.
After Kip's attempt to unlck the datapad results in the following message:

ENTRY DENIED: THREE MORE FAILED ATTEMPTS WILL RESULT IN A DATA WIPE OF THE DEVICE.

The officer's smug look instantly generates indignation within the core of Kip's being.

"Do you really think this glorified nightlight can stop me? I thought Imperials made better stuff than this, but I guess all their research budget went into creating tasty boot polish for officers like you to enjoy."

Kip attempts to break into the datapad again, this time recalling the schematics for this common model of Imperial datapad as detailed in "Cut the Poodoo: The Comprehensive Guide to Computer Systems, 2nd Edition".

The screen of the datapad flashes three times as Kip successfully slices past the device's meager security.

Kip smirks as he breaks the datapad's encryption.

"Hah, eat poodoo!"

He looks over at the officer, a bit disappointed that she showed no reaction.

"Anyways, you said it's your first mission, right? So, I bet you didn't make many friends yet. Do you think anybody would believe that you were an Imperial officer if we took all of your identification?"

With little other option the officer does as requested, relinquishing her identification, insignia, boots, and pistol. She takes a quick look back at Gurag whose blaster is still aimed at her head and sighs.

"Murdering Captain Mercon will have consequences. Just remember that when the civilians of this town are being punished for your actions."
The four FSF officers are still quickly approaching on foot. They're not quite close enough to see the hastily made barricade in the middle of the road - but it won't be long.

Gurag shrugs and pulls the trigger. As the blue pulse ring of the blasters stun setting hits the officer Gurag grunts in surprise "Huh, it was on stun. Right boys and girls, time to get out of here before we got the constabulary to deal with too". He shoulders the bundle of gear he looted from the troopers and starts to make his way away from the ambush site

I'm not sure that there's a handoff happening. At least, I wasn't able to find anything indicating that there was to be a handoff. As far as we know, the objective of this team is unknown, and all we know now is that they planned to stop at a few locations.

Nell presses herself down and listens more than looking as the FSF arrives at the barricade. She is spying them on reflective surfaces just to have an idea of where they are. Her last idea, is to set her datapad to receive signals. There shouldn't be that many comlinks around, so if she can pick up their broadcasted frequencies then they could come in handy at a later date

As the others head off in different directions before meeting at the coordinates given by Kip, Nell holds her position and spies on the arriving members of the FSF.

O1: "That wasn't there when we left, Sarge. The road was perfectly clear."
O3: "You're telling me that happened while the two of you were gone? First reports of blaster fire and now... what? Littering?"
O2: "Yes, Sarge. Like he said, it was all clear. We were just looking for a vagrant when our comms went."

There is bit more indisinct conversation when Nell notices that the fourth officer has just climbed the barricade and has seen the bodies littered about the place.

O4: "Sarge! Couple of downed troopers over here!"
O3: "Officers down? Get on the comm, get some..."
O4: (interrupting) "No, Sarge... Stormtroopers."
O3: "What the hell are Stormtroopers doing in OUR city? Bad enough they send those thugs in all time."
O4: "Couple of Imperial Officers as well."
O3: "Ha! Falu Four strikes again it would appear. Let's clean up this mess before some ImpSymp stumbles onto it."

The four officers gather together and speak quietly amongst themselves before three of them break off and start to clear the clutter from the road. The fourth drags the three dead into the buildings and then binds the female officers hands behind her back before giving her a quick slap to wake her.

O3: (sarcastically) "Impersonating an Imperial Officer can get you in a lot of trouble, Young Lady."

The young officer is still too out of it to even respond.

O3: "Let's take her in and throw her in a cell. See what she knows. When the Imps find out something's happened to this lot, you know that they'll be contacting their favorite pet, Gen, so everyone keep quiet about this."

With the Imperial officer in tow, the four members of the FSF leave the scene in the direction from which they came.

Nell is waiting for the officers to leave again, before joining the others. She had just learned something very important!

The Imperial officers came down to meet someone and the FSF did not know they were coming. This could be import later.

You can spend any newly acquired XPs as they are awarded - just post in the thread how they’re being spent.
