Half-baked idea: Magic is entering into our world

I have an idea of playing a game in the early Shadowrun years, like right now in 2021, April 30: Without warning, ten percent of the world's population suddenly mutates. The process then occurs in in utero children. The media calls this transformation "Goblinization."

There had to be a major paradigm shift in society as magic was starting to bleed into the world again.

So a lot is going on, there will be those to investigate this new strange phenomenon. There will be those who will try to exploit it for personal gain. There will be fear and hatred. There will be bursts of wild magic.

A lot is going on, and it could be an interesting setting to play in.
BUT, what stories should we try to tell in such a setting? What do you think?
ALSO What system should we use?
OOC:
My own thoughts are some investigative agents from some global organization, like WHO or UN. I would look to TV-shows like Fringe/x-files/warehouse 13/early episodes of Agents of Shield, for inspiration.
I think FATE or Savage Worlds could be used as a system.
I also have an idea of a rotating GM, where in the first case I am GM and in the next someone else is.
But this idea is only half-baked. If this is going to go anywhere, the idea needs to be nurtured into something viable.

YES. Just today I asked if any Fringe/X-files themed games are in the making in Discord. You have my attention.
(Besides what is ANOTHER new system to dwell into? :P)

edit: I know you know, just getting people's attention for Discord ;)
more edit - I'm practically adding stuff as I look into this: what about Shadowrun's own system? I'm not familiar with any of the aforementioned ones either, just want to know what's it's disadvantages in contrast to the others.

Your discord question made me write this post. I have had this halfbaked idea for some months now. Now it put it out there.

Shadowruns own system is.... clunky. It is made to deal with all kinds of weapon upgrades, implants, spellwork, hacking, different races ect ect. I am not a fan of the system, where hotwiring a car, takes 12d6 to resolve. I love the setting :)

A solid reason to use shadowrun for a magic enters our modern world and see what happens is the detailed timeline will all kinds of interesting events that could inspire us.

You could toss any story idea into this and it'd stick. I do like the Warehouse 13 and Agents of Shield idea.

One thing that held me back even to plan anything out though is the maturity of the subjects in shows like Fringe (❤️btw) in contrast to the server's Pg 13 rating.

I just finished rewatching all of Fringe a couple weeks ago. The game The Strange really works with that: there are Mad Science rules and universe hopping rules.

As to the goblinization in Shadowrun, The Strange could certainly also be used. I'm not certain that it has the same feel, but elements of it are really close.

As long as you advertise the games properly, you can have mature games on the site. It's just the public content that needs to be PG13. Plus, all participating players obviously have to consent to darker content
